Caroline stepped forward, her fingers closing firmly around Summer's wrist, leaving behind a crimson imprint as Summer yelped in pain.

Caroline asked, "Tell me what happened. Did you drag James along with you?"

"Well…" Summer didn't know what to say. James had already told his mother that he brought her out.

As such, if she said that she was the one who told James to accompany her instead, it would mean that James was lying. Moreover, she would be punished.

So, Summer didn't know what to say.

Caroline's frustration mounted at Summer's silence. "Tell me what's going on!"

James, unable to bear it anymore, intervened, "Mom, what I said was true. I needed a break from work. This isn't Summer's fault."

Positioning himself between his wife and mother, James shielded Summer, his protective stance evident.

Caroline's gaze bore into Summer, a silent warning laced within. It spoke volumes: "You're fortunate my son intervened today, but your luck won't hold forever."
