(Tara's POV)

Breakfast has never been as emotional and exciting as this, as I watched Blake, Matthew, and Eric argue like children over a single slice of lemon pie left on the plate. They reminded me of us as we fought over the remaining piece of something on the table, whether a pie or pastry. Victor and Clarice would sneer at me as papa would always take it and give it to me. They would complain how unfair he was to others, but Mama would just laugh and would tell I was the kindest, so I deserved it as a treat.

Samantha rolled her eyes, saying she was already full, and Sean seemed not fond of the lemon pie. Even Nana Shea waved her hand as a sign of retreat, telling us she was full as well. My eyes squinted over the pie and the three guys in front of me.

“Fine!” Blake said, deciding for the three of them. “Whoever gets the pie first...” He made himself ready, same with Matthew and Eric.

(Tara's POV)When I opened my eyes, I was startled when I realized my head was resting on his lap. Blake was staring at my face, his eyes looked at me adoringly, hoping it was not my imagination while he brushed my hair with his fingers.Did I just fall asleep? I guess I did. I could hear Sean purring and mumbling as he ran around the aisle.“How was your sleep?” He asked, kissing my forehead.“Like a log,” Surprisingly, I slept so deep, with no nightmares, and I was still on the couch. I did not even feel Blake resting my head on his lap.“I’m glad to hear that.” He smiled, still stroking my hair. “Where are they?” I asked and tilted my head to look for Matthew and Eric. Right now, I could only see Samantha clearing up the things she prepared a while ago.“They left already,” He said, helping m

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 42 - The Scary Tara

(Blake's POV)I closed my office door to ensure that even if Samantha would scream or curse, Tara and Sean would not hear us from the outside. While in the car, I told her that Tara would spend the two days with me in the penthouse, and she did not need to go to the office for two days. She got to read my message in the parking lot, and she has been giving me looks that say we needed to talk.“What are you talking about?” Samantha snapped at me as soon as the door was closed. She did not bother sitting down. We were just standing by the doorway when she threw me the question.“I already told you, Sam. Tara will stay here until we leave for China,” I repeated, touching my nape with one hand while my other hand was clenched into a fist. I always hated it when she questioned my decision, and this was the first time she disagreed with me. Usually, she and Sean would not go up here when I brou

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 43 - Curious Tara

(Blake's POV)I left Tara exploring the room, and I went to the home bar and hoped to drown myself in liquor tonight, but as I was about to reach the bottle of whiskey, I changed my mind. I don’t want to have another trouble with her tonight. What is happening to me?I scratched my forehead and went to the kitchen. Instead of drinking, I checked on the food she could eat just if she got hungry. I went to my office to pass the time and divert my attention and energy with papers I needed to review. I sat down on my swivel chair, and the sealed brown envelope caught my attention. The familiar logo embedded in the envelope and the tape used to seal it told me it was from Matthew. Printed on top of it where the word - ConfidentialWhat else is there to know when she told me everything? I placed it back to the top of piles of folders and took the next folder. • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 44 - Surprise Guest

(Tara's POV)Blake looked at me as if he had something in his mind but could not share it with me. I shoved the doubts away in my mind, but sometimes I felt there were more things to discover. I stopped in front of his bedroom, and I turned to him.“Why does Mr. Williamson not allow anyone to go to his room?” I asked again, just curious. Samantha and Sean’s words echoed that I could go anywhere in his house except his bedroom. He opened the door, left it ajar. “Privacy, Tara,” He answered briefly. “His life interested a lot of people much that he couldn’t enjoy his private life anymore, and his bedroom is the only place where he could be himself, think about himself, and will share it only with someone he...” He stopped.I lifted an eyebrow, waiting for him to complete his answer, but

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 45 - Shades of Color

(Tara's POV)I was ready to give in, not caring about myself, his world. All I could think now was Blake. As his hand crept down to the hem of my shirt, I heard someone clearing his throat that I was sure was not my imagination because I could feel Blake stiffen and utter a curse.A while ago, I was burning, but it was like a mass of snow swept over my body as he turned around to cover me. I crossed my legs and closed my eyes, wishing the earth would swallow me.“Good morning, Blake. Can we talk?” He asked that his voice was calm, soothing but with authority in his tone. Blake breathed a deep sigh before nodding his head but remaining firmly planted in his place. He must have been aware of what I was feeling at the moment because he refused to walk towards Mr. Williamson.“You must be Tara.” I heard him say that I peeked from his back. Still blushing, I greeted him. &

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 46 - The Lies

(Tara's POV)“Miss?”I think I heard a voice or did I just imagine it?“Miss, we’re here,” The male voice said again. He was probably deciding whether he would just let me sit for a while or drag me out of the taxi. I blinked, realizing I was not imagining it. I am really here, and the taxi driver stopped the car in front of our apartment. I paid him and got myself out of the car, taking my belongings except for my heart and soul which I left with Blake.Walking without my heart and soul made me realize I was nothing more than a robot. I was glad, though, my brain, my useless and stupid brain, was still with me. I was relieved that Stella wasn’t here yet. I would have more time on my own and I could decide whether I would like to cry all day or just... maybe I have no other choice but to cry until I have no more tears to shed.I took my key out of m

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 47 - Unexpected Guest

(Blake's POV)I walked to the large glass window of the hotel and looked at the colorful lights on the streets. This was the first night that Samantha and I could take an early rest, the night that I hated because it meant not using my energy and mind at work. Although, I believe she deserved it after days of working hard with me.I heard the ‘clanking’ sound of her stiletto shoes and saw her reflection walking toward me. She stood beside me, sighed deeply as she stared at nothing. In her hands were glasses of liquors, and she handed me a rocks glass of whiskey, while she has a brandy for hers.“It’s been two weeks,” She sighed, holding the glass with her two hands. She turned her back to Sean, playing quietly with her toy robot on the couch. She took a sip from her glass and waited for me to say something.I heaved a deep sigh. I was also waiting for her to say something but

(Blake's POV)“What are you doing here?” Her eyebrows drew together, and her eyes flickered with anger.“Hi, Tara!” I greeted as my heart hammered my chest, hurting me to see Tara again as she stared at me furiously, but only the chicken greeted me back. It clucked as it escaped from her hands. “Get out!” She said, looking down, but her breathing was quick and shallow. When I didn’t move, she looked at me, squinting her eyes. “I said get out!” She shouted, not minding the shocked reactions of her sisters beside me. I heard Ivana mumbling something, but Gianna hushed her right away.I closed my eyes, thinking I deserved all these. Tara has all the right to get furious at me after everything that had happened. I heaved a sigh as I walked to the doorway, but I was not exactly giving up. I would get out of her sight for a while, stay in the car, and

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 100 – And They Live...

(Tara's POV)It was a bizarre dream, but I could not remember where I was, except I was walking endlessly on the bridge with Clarice when I heard Bree calling me. When I stopped walking, Clarice seemed to understand. She smiled at me and nodded. I must have walked far because it took me time to reach the end, but I heard them talking about me every day. I listened to Bree as she read stories and sang to me. Whenever I heard Blake’s voice calling me to wake up, telling me how much he loves me, I would run. This morning, Bree woke me up with her song, but I couldn’t open my eyes. When I could finally open my eyelids, it was the god-like face of my fiance that my eyes first laid on. I feasted my eyes on him and thought of the day I saw him at the office with Sadie. It hurt me, but my heart was telling me how much he loved me, and that was enough for me to give us another chance. I closed my eyes again and fell into a deep sleep, dreaming of Blake and Bree on the island. Their loud chats

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 99 – Sleeping Beauty

(Blake's POV)It has been a week, but Tara remained unconscious. Jerome would use the term sleeping whenever Bree is around. He is always careful of his words, especially when my daughter’s almond-shaped eyes turn round at words she hardly understands.Fear still crept into my heart of losing her, and the only consolation I have that she would wake up one of these days is that her ventilator support was already taken away. She could breathe without the support of the machine, but when I asked him why she was not waking up, he explained many medical reasons. My heart has one explanation, though. Tara was giving up on me, and what scares me is hearing the words coming from her that she didn’t want me in her life.I watched Bree as she reads her book to her Mom. Her voice has become my alarm sound in the morning. She would sing to her and read her a story. After Stella or Gianna fed her breakfast,

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 98 – Learning From Bree

(Blake's POV)For how long I was staring blankly at nowhere, I did not know. My heart was aching much that all I wanted was to be with Tara, but I went out of her room because I felt dying, seeing Tara in her bed, still unconscious, and the beeping of the heart monitoring machine was driving me nuts.I lost the entire day with Tara when I woke up in one of the hospital rooms. I yelled at every nurse who came, hating they put me to sleep. What if Tara woke up and asked for me? No doctor, not even Jerome, could calm me down. Then Nana Shea came into my room, surprising me.“Blake,” She called my name, and I saw myself like I was a little child again. I cried and held onto her when she came to me.“Get a grip, Blake! Tara and Bree need you right now,” Nana Shea said, wiping my tears. “Unless you calm down, they won’t allow you to see Tara. You don’t want to scare Bre

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 97 – Hear My Side

(Blake's POV)Before my eyes could open, the corners of my mouth lifted already. As she snuggled closer to me and held on to me tighter, I felt to be the luckiest man in the world. I kissed her forehead before getting up from the bed slowly. I watched Tara, and with her uneven breathing, I now felt guilty for tiring her out last night. I kissed her shoulder and moved out from the bed slowly, letting her rest.Humming La Vie En Rose, I went down and started picking up our clothes I tossed anywhere last night. Bree will be coming home soon, and I didn’t want to explain why our dresses, especially the underwear were everywhere around the house. When I heard Bree and Jem entering the house, I still had our clothes in my hands, and I had to put the clothes on the couch because Bree ran to me excitedly. I crouched down and opened my arms to her.“Daddy!” She beamed and kissed my cheeks.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 96 – Fading Away

(Tara's POV)Slowly, my eyelids opened, and the morning sunshine greeted me. I rolled to my bed and realized I was alone, but my lips curved a sensual smile as I remembered what happened last night.“Show me that good sex you’re saying a while ago, Kitten,” He whispered in a raspy voice as we entered the elevator. His lips curved a playful smile as he pinned me to the wall and kissed me passionately.I never thought that those simple words would turn him on.I grabbed the sheets of my bedcovers, biting my bottom lip now as I recalled how I kissed him with lust and love. I was too angry with Sadie that another side of me came out of my body and soul.“You’re mine, Blake!” I uttered, kissing him and biting his earlobe as I whispered those words. “Every part of you is mine!” I said as I took off his tuxedo and opened the buttons of his dress suit.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 95 – Not A Charity Case

(Tara's POV)Being rich must be tiring, I said to myself as I looked around. The beautiful gown I was wearing today, including the shoes and accessories, could feed a family, or maybe an entire community for a week already. The pledges of the guests tonight were overwhelming, and surely the institution benefitting it would be thrilled. They have already exceeded the needed fund of the group for the charity they were supporting. Before I met Blake, all these were only part of my imagination existing only in movies and novels we used to read. Being here made me realize that two worlds were created—one for the rich and one for the poor. Yet one thing is needed to survive in both worlds. You have to be strong.“Shall we dance?” Blake asked, extending his hand to me.I smiled, feeling the relief of finally having Blake with me. He had been busy talking with many people tonight.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 94 – Eyes Like A Hawk

(Tara's POV)I stopped by the door, admiring Blake in his black tuxedo. He was too gorgeous that I wished to be selfish tonight, not wanting other women to look at him. “Just to remind you, Blake, this is a charity event, not your wedding yet,” Samantha grinned as she reminded him while fixing his bow tie. Samantha looked beautiful in her red gown with elaborative lace embroidery from top to bottom. Men would surely ogle at her as her long gown was designed with a high-cut halter neck and sheer side panels, but she kept on telling me I must be ready because cameras would be on me today, eyes of every guest would be fixed on me because of curiosity. She tapped his chest and turned him around to see me. She giggled when Blake opened his mouth, but no words came out.I shrugged, smiling sheepishly as I walked to him. “Samantha made me wear this,” I said, blushing.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 93 – Rejection

(Tara's POV)Blake kissed me with a mix of anger and love, but he stopped when I started touching him. It was as if he was burned with my touch, and when he saw me panting after that breathless kiss, his face went pale. His eyes suddenly were in a panic that he got up immediately and helped me sit.“Are you okay?” His eyes were round, and I could recognize the panic and fear overwhelming him.My eyes narrowed, and I looked at him. “I’m okay,” I said, still panting from the kiss.“Can you breathe?” He asked, now pacing in front of me, which he didn’t know stresses me now.“You’re overreacting, Blake,” I uttered as I took my clothes and started getting dressed. He shook his head. “I told you, we won’t do anything until I talked to your doctor until we have you thoroughly check and-”I stood up, now feeli

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 92 – My Heart is Just Fine

(Tara's POV)Samantha had brought me a long list of wedding planners she knew, and all I had to do was select the best one. We were about to go back to the office to talk about the charity event we would be attending when Blake startled us as he stormed inside and went straight to the bedroom.“What happened?” Samantha asked, standing up.I shook my head, leaving the magazines and papers on the center table, and we went upstairs. The door was opened wide, and as we stepped inside the bedroom, I could hear movements in the bathroom. My heartbeat was getting crazy at first, but I felt it stopping when we heard Blake screaming in anger. When he came out of the bathroom, his face was red, his eyes were flaring in anger, and he was breathing heavily as he threw everything in his hand. My eyes widened, and my body quivered as I recognized the things he threw in front of me. I gasped when I sa
