CHAPTER TWELVE: HOPE's PICK-UP LINE

Poppy’s mouth is still slightly open as she watches us three in disbelief. She stands up slowly and scrutinizes our outfits, probably recognizing us from breakfast since she’s been with Love and me all morning. Then she turns her attention to Hope. Poppy cautiously approaches Hope, reaches out, and lightly pokes Hope’s cheek with her finger, seemingly verifying that Hope is real.

“Pretty impressive, right? Now I’m going to make one of them disappear. There will only be two of them left. Close your eyes, Poppy,” Summer says. She gently moves Poppy away from Hope and instructs her to shut her eyes again.

Poppy obeys.

Once Poppy’s eyes are closed, Summer, chuckling, leads Hope behind the couch and has her crouch down to hide. Love shakes his head in amusement, watching our youngest sibling.

Summer returns to Poppy’s side. “Abracadabra, abracadabra! The three eggs will become two again. One, two, three, voila!”
