Twilight POV
I was out visiting a faraway pack with Mitsu. Natsumi was restless, even with the minion plushie that she can’t live without, so I had to bring her along.
On the way back, I stopped at a nearby gas station to stretch my legs and use the restroom.
“Mitsu, can you grab some snacks with Natsumi? I don’t think the ones left will last her long. You can take my purse. There should be some cash in it, otherwise, feel free to use any one of the cards”
“Got it.”
Just as I was heading back to the car, I bumped face-first into someone and landed on my ass. I wish I had looked where I was going.
“I’m sorry, miss. I didn’t see you there.” Someone said and helped me up.
“It’s ok. I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
As if embarrassing myself wasn’t enough, Tis kept ringing the words “mine” and “mate” in my ears. I did feel those little sparks during that brief moment of contact and his strangely familiar scent was drawing me in a little… hell no. Not today or ever. Seriously, who the hell is out to get me?
“Anyway, I really should get going. And it’s doctor, not miss.”
I darted away before I gave in to the temptation of looking at him. Hopefully, I’d never run into him again. I don’t know what he looks like so I might, but I’d instead take those chances.
Sorry bro, it’s not you… actually, it might be in the future, so I’d rather not risk it. I promised myself that I’d never let Tis get hurt again after she pretty much disappeared for a month and I plan on keeping that promise, even if there’s a chance that she’ll whine at me for this.
Thank Goddess Mitsuri came back right after I got into the car.
“We got a lot more snacks than planned. Are you ok? You seem a little shaken.”
“I’m fine but can you take over the driving?”
“Sure.”
I put Natsumi on my lap. It’ll just make opening and handing her the snacks a lot easier.
We weren’t even on the road for five minutes when…
“Mama, can I go thewe?” Natsumi pointed to a park.
We weren’t in a hurry to get back, so I didn’t see why not.
“Ok.”
“I think you guys can get off here. I’ll look for parking in the meantime.”
I took Natsumi with me and unleashed her to play as much as she wanted. Mitsu joined me after a while.
We’d been here for over an hour when some guy walked up to us. Thankfully, he wasn’t my so-called mate.
Before he could say anything, Natsumi came running up to me.
“Mama, when Papa coming?”
He’s obviously not coming, and she knows that too. Hell, she’s never even met him.
“He said he’d be here soon.” I turned to the random guy. “Did you need something?”
“Never mind,” He walked away.
“Did good, Mama?”
“Yes.”
I don’t know how she knew what would happen or if it was just a coincidence. Either way, I’m glad she did that.
We were heading back to the car when I was stopped by a familiar voice.
“Twilight? OMG, long time no see.”
It was Sora.
“Oh hey. How’s it going?”
“In short, adulting sucks and I wish I was still a…”
Then she noticed Natsumi. Great.
“Hold on, is she your…”
“Yeah.”
“I can’t believe I have a cute, little niece.”
“Hi,” Natsumi said.
“Hi. She looks a lot like him. You don’t have to answer but does he know about her? I find it a little hard to believe that he’d hide something like this.”
“He doesn’t.”
“Oh. I don’t mean any disrespect, but whatever beef you guys have with each other shouldn’t involve your kid. At least let him.”
“I’ll think about it.” Not. “It was nice seeing you though.”
“You, too. Oh, and before you leave, is it ok if I see her sometimes? I’d love to get to know her.”
“Sure. I don’t have much going on this weekend so we can meet up if you have time.”
“That’ll be perfect.”
She left after we exchanged numbers.
“I know that as your friend, I’m supposed to be on your side, but she’s not wrong,” Mitsu said. “I think you should tell him. You can’t hide this forever.”
“I did say I’d think about it.”
“We both know that’s a lie.”
When we got back, Etsuko wanted to see me.
“Twilight, I have two messages for you. One, choose wisely and two, you’re not forsaken.”
“The vagueness isn’t helping anyone.”
“I just get messages and deliver them to whomever they’re for. Meanings aren’t included. I’ll try to find out more and let you know.”
“That’d be great.”
Later…
“Alex, don't you think it's time you give your people a Queen? You're about to be 25, don't you already have someone in mind?”
“Shouldn't you give your people their Emperor?”
“Touché. But I'm serious.”
“So am I.” He took my hands in his. “How about you be my Queen?”
“Uh...you're kidding...right?”
I mean, he has to be. There's no way he's serious, right?
“No, and I don't see why not.”
“Uhm...I'm flattered but you do know that I have a child, right?”
“What's the problem with that?”
“I guess from a logical perspective, I thought you wouldn't be too keen on the idea of raising another man's child. And to be honest, that's the line I've been using to turn away guys who ask me out. Believe it or not, it works.”
“I'm not most men and I don't mind. Even if you had kids with thirty different men, it'd be a little weird, but it also wouldn't change my mind. And that’s because it won’t change who you are, and I happen to like who you are. I won't pressure you but please consider it.”
I mean, he's not wrong. The last time I trusted a guy who told me something similar to that, I ended up mateless and pregnant. I've known Alex long enough to know that he wouldn't do something like that but that's exactly what I thought last time and again, look where that got me.
“I'll think about it. But I should warn you that you might end up hurt because I don't believe in love anymore and it's dead to me. It’s too much of a hassle as well as troublesome and complicated. And honestly, I'm better off without it. I'm saying it not to chase you away but so that you won’t take it personally when I don’t return your feelings. I know there's someone out there who'll give you all the love and affection that you deserve and more and I'm sorry but it's not me. For all you know, she might be closer than you think, and I don't want to take that away from her, or him. I won't judge.”
“I guess I'll think about that too. Anyway, I should get going.” He said before leaving.
“Why didn't you accept it?” Mitsu asked. “We all know how smitten he is towards you, and he’s done a terrible job of hiding it. And I think you've been single long enough.”
“It's not about being single, you know.”
“If he had a problem with you already having a pup, he wouldn't have made you that offer. And it's not like it'll complicate things between your pups. Natsumi will take over after you since she's your firstborn and your secondborn, aka his firstborn, will take over after him. See, no complications. Natsumi already likes him, and you also deserve to be happy.”
“I said that I'd think about it and you're already thinking about kids. You have a serious problem; you know that?”
“I'm just looking out for the Alpha as Betas should.”
“Sky and I can barely keep up.” Ayaka came in.
“Baby troubles?”
“It always is. I know it's only been a few weeks, but I feel like I'm going to have a mental breakdown at any second. Any chance you have a baby translator lying around?”
“Unfortunately, no.”
“Too bad. You don't mind if I pass out on the couch, right?”
“Go ahead.”
“Thank you.”
Twilight POVSora and I met up at a park.“I can’t get over how precious she is. What’s her name?”“Natsumi. She’s turning two in August.”“She's even more precious now. You better watch out because I might kidnap her one day.” She joked.“Short Stuff, funny running into you here.” Seriously, who else, that I know, will pop up? I have nothing against Hansuke, but still.“Speaking of, since when did you start babysitting?” He asked Sora.“Technically, it's not babysitting if the mom is next to me.”“You mean...” He turned to me. “Since when? And how come no one thought to tell me?”“Actually, Takumi doesn’t know,” Sora explained. “I tried to tell her to change that though.”“I don't mean to be harsh but I'm with Sora on this one. I think he should know.”“See? I told you.”“Alright alright. I'll tell him if it means you two will stop whining about it. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to take her home. It's past her nap time and she gets very restless if she doesn't take her nap.” I got
Twilight POV“You made it,” Sora said.“I said I would, right?”“May I hold her?”“That’s honestly up to her.” I put her down. “I think hand-holding won’t be an issue, but again, it’s up to her.”When we walked in, a familiar scent hit my nose. It must be that guy I bumped into the other day. Great, just when I thought I’d never see him again.“Sora, do you have a guest or something?”“Yeah. I’ll be right back though.”She left with Natsumi. Weird. Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse, I could smell the scent getting closer. Why me? It’d be pretty pathetic to try and hide so that option’s off the table. It’s ok. Just ignore him, or at least try to.“Sora, what’s taking so…”You know those moments where you feel like screaming at the top of your lungs while pulling your hair out of its follicles? I’m having that moment. I also felt like an idiot because I should’ve known Sora would’ve brought her idiot brother too. Again, why me?“Uh… hey?”I wasn't going to stick around so I
Takumi POV“Who said I was?” She asked.“Then it's true.”“I didn't say that it is.”“And you didn't deny it either. So, which is it?”“Fine. It's true, I was pregnant. So what?”I honestly didn’t expect her to admit it right away but then again, she’s a terrible liar so I would’ve gotten the truth either way.“How did you know?” She asked.“Sora dropped a hint by asking me if anything unusual was going on with you before we split. I remembered all the weird things that were going on with you. I didn’t want to believe it because of the pills but I guess the effects wore off. And it made everything make sense. Why didn't you tell me when you found out?”“I told you that I'm not your problem anymore, so you don't have to bother yourself with me.”“Were you ever going to tell me?”“Obviously not. What part of “you're dead to me” was unclear?”I won’t lie, her words cut deep.“So, how's the baby?”“I don't think that it's any of your concern.”“Actually, because I'm the father, it is.”“F
Later…Twilight POV“Mama, me dweamed weiwd dweam.”“What was it about?” I asked while tucking her in.“I dweamed saw Papa yestewday. He looked lot like me or me looked lot like him. But he was vewy tall like a giant.”“Honey, that wasn't a dream. Your papa was here yesterday just before you fell asleep.”“Oh.”“Do you want to see him again?”“Maybe. Can I tomowwow?”Honestly, I'm disappointed with her answer.“Yes.”“Can I also get little bwothew or sissew?”“Honey, I'm sorry but you can't.”At least, not right now. I’m considering adopting one later on, but that’s all it is. A consideration.“Why?” She asked.“It's...well...”“Is it because you doesn't like Papa?”“What makes you say that?”“You not sad when he not here and he don't live with us too and me don't see a wing on it.”Wow. I guess this is one of the consequences of having a pup who takes after you.“Is Papa bad?”“Not really. We’re just not together. Anyway, enough of that; you need to get your sleep.”“Ok. Love you, Ma
Moon Goddess POVI made my way through many dreams until I reached the one I intended to. And my what a... uh... an interesting dream. I mostly see food everywhere. After much searching, I finally found the Alpha I was looking for. She seemed to be enjoying herself and did not notice me approaching her.“What an interesting dream you are having, Alpha. Most people dream of things they do not have but wish to obtain. But I assume you are not one of them.”Her startled expression amused me. Oh my, it would seem that I nearly scared her to death. But I do not blame her, she did not expect someone else to be here. And it is not every day, or rather night, that the Moon Goddess herself visits your dream.“You’re…”“Yes. But please, call me Luna.”“Isn't it supposed to be Selene?”“I just like the name Luna more than Selene.”“Sorry, it just makes you sound...”“As though I am an Alpha's mate? I am well aware of that, but I do not mind. Have you ever wondered why Alphas' mates are called Lu
Twilight POVAs I pulled up to our destination, I realised that I had no clue what I'm going to say to Toshi. It's too late to back out now so I might as well see this through to the end. It’s not as if I had a choice because the wonderful thing that I'm supposed to call my brain decided to make my legs move without my permission and before I knew it, I was ringing the doorbell. Thanks a lot, brain. The last person I expected to answer was Toshi. He really grew up. Hell, he's really been hitting it up in the growth department. I’ll be honest, I’m a little jealous that he’s taller than me. He’s a little on the lanky side but he'll probably grow out of it. Sure, I can't pick him up like I used to, but it's a small price to pay. I mean, I can but it’d look very weird.“Mom!”Puberty is clearly not showing him any mercy with that sort of but not quite scratchy-sounding voice. I actually had to keep myself from laughing. It would’ve also been a little mean since he didn’t ask for that to h
Twilight POVYou'd think that I'd be angry or something close to that, but I just laughed as if I'd just heard the best joke of all time. It was the kind of laugh that made your stomach hurt and had you wheezing. The kind where you'd even start crying.I should probably stop because he's looking at me as if I've finally lost it and belong in a mental institution. And my stomach was starting to hurt too.“Don’t mind me. I was just laughing at the bittersweetness of the situation. Believe me, you'd be laughing too if you were in my shoes.”“Aren't you upset?”“No.” I shrugged. “I've already made it clear to your brother that I want nothing to do with him.”“Are you sure?”“Yeah, you don't have to worry about me. I'm fine.”Actually, it stung a little. But I can get over it. It’s not as if I ever expected him to put his life on hold for me or whatever.“Oh.” He went quiet for a while. “How is Oreo?”“Do you want the full story or…”“I think the full story would be better.”“Well, a few m
Twilight POV“I thought I’d at least have to buy you dinner a few times before that ever happened,” He said.“Funny, but no. I’m serious.”“What brought it on?”“It’s more of a contract marriage, under pack laws obviously. You don’t have a mate and your pack is probably pushing for you to have one, right?”“Yes, but…”“Ok. I don’t have any interest in finding one myself so no issues from my side. I’m offering marriage as a form of truce and trade between our packs. The only catch is that I don’t want to sleep with you and we’re not going to share a living space. In other words, we’ll stay in our respective packs and live separate lives. It also means no marking and no mating ceremony. That being said, it’s an open marriage and I won’t care whom you’ll fool around with. But have the decency to cover your tracks because I will not let you humiliate me or get away with it. Also, we’re not telling anyone who we’re married to until after we get the marriage certificate. If you somehow find
1. Book 2 was never planned. It’s literally based on me putting two brain cells together to come up with ideas cuz the first book exhausted the rest of my brain cells, and I obviously didn’t expect to be writing a book 3. I was going to write one, but now it’ll be book 4 (we’ll get to that another time). 2. Natsumi’s name was originally Hakumei because it translates to twilight. Then I changed it to Koharu (which means little sun) because of her blonde hair, but I decided to make it Natsumi because...I just liked it better ok. 3. Back to the second point, Natsumi was originally blonde like Takumi, but I changed her colour to black to make the genetics thing a little more realistic. 4. In the beginning, Twilight and Trey were already supposed to be together (as in during those three years, she and Trey made up), but I don’t know why I didn’t add it in. 5. Twilight wasn’t supposed to have two wolves, but I thought it would be cool, so I added that. 6. Twilight and Trey were suppose
This is where the second book ends (yay). I’m ending it here because I felt that the storyline was starting to get too long for one book. This means that there’ll be a third book, but (drumroll) it’ll be part 2 of this one. But I’m calling it Mates and Temptations because The Pains of Guilt Part 2 didn’t sound catchy. And as a special little something, I added a bonus chapter after this one and a little blurb about the third book. I don’t have an exact date for when I’ll release book 3 because when it comes to my writing, I hate deadlines (they make me rush things and it affects the quality of my writing). The only reason I had one for this book is that I already had a lot of chapters ready for release long before I finished the first book. Anyway, book 2 will be available for purchase from retailers around mid-January or the first week of February (there's a ton of editing I need to do while also working on book 3). Blurb: Twilight and Trey have finally reconciled and accepted each
Twilight POV Crap. Busted. Wait, no, I haven't done anything yet, so I'm not busted. In fact, why am I acting guilty of doing something I didn't do when I should be pissed right now? “How many?” I asked. “Can you ask a normal question, so I know what you're talking about?” I showed him the wallpaper. “Oh. That.” Is he serious? “That's all you have to say?” I asked. “I was supposed to say more?” “Ok. Well, this is unbelievable.” “It's not as if I can deny it, and besides, it’s just a picture.” “Just a picture? Actually, I'm more surprised by the fact that you're even calling it a picture.” “C'mon, it's not that bad.” Not that bad? He's practically asking me to throttle him right here and now. “Besides, it's my favourite one,” He continued. “Favourite one? You mean there's more?” I'm having a flashback of all the not-so-graceful moments I've had while he was around. And they're a lot. “Yeah.” “Tell me you're joking.” “I'm not.” “I'm never getting comfortable around y
Third-person POVThe next day, Natsumi came into Twilight's room and jumped on her causing her to wake up.“Happy biwthday, Mama.”“Thank you, honey, but you don't have to wake up me like that.”“But excited.”“Sigh. I can't stay mad at that face.”“C'mon, Mama.” She dragged her out of bed. “See pwesent.”“Ok ok. I'm coming.”She was taken to her dad's room.“So, she actually woke you up. I tried to stop her, but she was already gone.”“Pop-pop, give Mama pwesent.”“Alright.”He gave her a gift bag. Inside was a simple, white summer dress with spaghetti straps and black butterflies at the hem.“You likes it, Mama?”“Of course, I do.”“I's best pwesentew.”She didn't want to burst Natsumi's bubble
A few weeks later…Third-person POV“Happy biwthday, Papa.”“Thank you, Nugget. But how did you know it was today?”“I told her, and happy birthday.”“Oh. Thanks.”“Got you pwesent, Papa.” She gave him a gift bag and inside was a watch. “Likes it?”“Yes, I do. So, I'm having dinner with my parents later and they asked me to ask you to come over. If you want to.”“Ok but will...”“Yeah, she'll be there.”“Then I'll have to bring Trey with me. I'm not trying to get even; he'll just be there to stop me from doing something I won’t regret.”“It's alright.”Later that night...“Are you sure you want to eat that much?” Matako asked. “Or are you aiming to pack more pounds than you already have?”
The next day...Third-person POV“What time is it?” She asked.“08:05”“Oh shit.”“What?”“I was supposed to pick up her dress over half an hour ago and bring it to her five minutes ago. And the wedding is at 9...”In her hurry, she tried to get out of bed, but almost ended up falling off and landing on her face before he caught her.“Not that I'm not taking you seriously, but I think you should slow down a little before you break a bone or two.”“My best friend's been waiting 25 years for this day, and I'm not about to screw it up for her. If I have to break a bone or two, then so be it.”“Alright, but don't attack me. I was just saying.”Half an hour later...She was about to exit the shop when she got an incoming call from Mitsuri. Deciding that she'd rather deal with
Twilight POVIt’s been almost two weeks since I last spoke to him. Everything is supposed to be fine now, or at least I thought it’d be. This whole thing is bothering me, and it’s not supposed to.I want to call him, but call him and say what? I could start by apologising for bringing up the two-mates thing out of nowhere. Then what? We go back to how things were in the beginning? Honestly, that’s how things should’ve stayed, and maybe, I wouldn’t be so conflicted.Trey POVShould I call her? I’ve been staring at my phone, with her contact on the screen, for who knows how long. I don’t even know if she wants to talk to me.“How long are you going to keep staring at her number?”Daisuke was sitting in front of me.“When did you get here?” I asked.“A while ago. You were so lost that you didn’t even
The next day…Third-person POV“Ams?” Trey came into her office. She got up and ran into his arms.“I thought you’d have at least wanted me to shower first,” He said.“You do stink, but I’m already used to it. What are you doing here though? You still have two weeks left.”“I was let out for good behaviour. That or they got tired of the noise I was making every time I beat the daylights out of Daichi.”“The latter sounds more believable. Are you going back to your pack now?”“What if I said later?”“I wouldn’t mind you staying a little longer. Come on,” She took him to her room.“You can use my shower and take a nap or sleep in here afterwards. I got a few things yesterday in case you wanted to stay here, but I forgot to get men’s shower gel. The closest thing I have is a lemon-scented one.”“That’s fine as long as I get to shower. I wouldn’t want my pack to see me in such a pathetic state.”“I’ll leave you to it then. Oh, and a few of your clothes are still in my closet,” She said be
The next night…Third-person POV“May I ask you something?” Trey asked.“You already are but sure.”“I’m curious to know what you do that makes you so tired most of the time. I get that you have a pack and pup to care of, but it doesn’t always add up.”“I have a job, but I do work from home most of the time. Other than that, I do other small things, like helping out in the kitchen whenever we have a pack dinner and the farms on Mondays and Wednesdays. I mostly got into all that after Natsumi’s dad and I split up to keep myself busy. I thought I’d stop after a while, but I guess enjoy it more than I thought I would.”“Would it make any difference if I suggested that you slow down?”“No. Your words would just go in one ear and out the other.”“I thought so,” He sighed."Anyway, you never told me about what you do for work. I remember you mentioning something about pups that one time."“I'm a certified child psychologist. I like working with them, and they feel the same.”“Ah, that's why
