-Lucy’s POV-

The ride to Miley’s boutique is complete silence. Nobody dared to speak. My heart was beating fast, as fast as the questions running in my mind. I wish to ask him for the longest time why he left without letting me know. I watched outside the window not letting Conner see my face as I try to hold back the tears. I couldn’t understand what I was feeling. I felt resentment, betrayed and pain all at the same time. I remember how I waited, how I searched for the man who is now right beside me. It was the waiting that pained me most because it kept me hopeful for his return which took a whole year. God knows how I missed those tender eyes and his warm embrace which made me feel so secure, but now here he is a total stranger. A call from Conner’s phone broke the silence. He casually pressed the answer button on the screen of his car which was synced to his phone. A sweet voice engulfed the air, “Hey baby! How are you?” I couldn’t help but look at the caller’s name on

-Conner’s POV- I had to put a straight face on. I can’t make her see how vulnerable I am when I am in front of her. She doesn’t know how excited I am to be with her today. I even woke up earlier than I usually do, but seeing her with Nick right at her doorstep made me irate. I don’t want to make a scene in public and so I had to compose myself before going out of my car. The confrontation between Nick and I made me feel guilty. He said something about Lucy being heartbroken. Yes, I understand that I made her probably sad for not letting her know that I was going away, but her being heartbroken? I am not so sure about that. I am certain that I saw her kissing Nick near my garage and so how can she be heartbroken? It must be the other way around. I guess Nick acted that way because I had to cut off their blossoming relationship. I was so focused on the road that I almost jolted out of my seat when my phone rang. Good thing Lucy wasn’t looking else it would be so embarr

-Lucy’s POV- I could feel myself tremble when Conner wrapped his arms around my waist, the more intense it became when he slowly bent his head down. Our faces so near and so as our lips. His minty breath with a touch of tobacco made him super irresistible. I was struck by how he emphasized on us being a couple and that I have to act like we were for real. I could feel my blood rush through my veins right to my face. Is it the weather or is it just me? Geez! It’s so hot in here! Sh*t! Come on Lucy think straight! Stop fantasizing and put yourself together! Remember the man you are with is not the same man whom you met a year ago. Think of this as pure work. Some mission you have to conquer. This is not the movies wherein the man that a woman fancies will fall in love with her, this is reality. You have to deal with it. Just act like a sweet girlfriend, pick a dress and it will soon be done. I took a deep breath, smiled and wrapped my arms around Conner’s neck. I swea

    - Lucy’s POV- I was on my way to where Miley was, and I saw her with a very big smile on her face. “What? What’s with that smile?” Miley shook her head, “I think uncle Jack picked the right woman for that naughty cousin of mine. I believe that you are just the match for him.” I laughed “How can you say that? I mean, there’s really nothing special about me.” Miley’s eyes widened “Are you kidding me? Basing from what you just did? I tell you girl, Yyou just slapped the face of that ostentatious woman without literally doing it. You owned that stage making her realize that Conner is your territory, just like saying hey! This is my guy so beat it!. Did you see how she ran outside crying like a lunatic?” Miley gave out a devilish laugh “That was amazing!” I raised my hands in surrender “Okay, okay. I get it. Well, I guess you know that the relationship between your cousin and I is based on a contract. We are getting married because he wants his uncle to be happy and me on the oth

-Conner’s POV- I am completely dumbfounded. I thought I had had enough experience when it comes to women, but that kiss. That f*uckin’ kiss ignited all of my senses. I looked at the woman who just kissed me and I couldn’t do anything, but just shake my head in disbelief. This woman has changed a lot. She has gained so much confidence now than what she had before. When we first met, she was the confused and timid girl. She even asked me to help her from her troubles, but now, she can walk with her head held high and initiated a kiss to a man. I tried to recover from the shock I had and keep my cool, but as I flipped the pages of the magazine I was supposedly reading, the kiss we shared came back to my mind. Her soft lips and the moan that escaped when I thrusted my tongue inside her mouth made my body heat up and sweat a bit even though the boutique is well air conditioned. She is a god damn good kisser. I guess Nick taught her well. The thought gave shivers all over

  • The Orphan's Goddess   20. Mark My Words

-Lucy’s POV- Today is the day that I will be married to the man whom I have secretly cherished. I never thought that this will ever happen due to his disappearance a year ago, but here I am wearing this beautiful trumpet wedding dress. I am looking at myself in the mirror trying to take everything in. This is it Lucy! You can do this! I am trying to calm myself down for I am truly nervous. Who wouldn’t be? I mean, aside from the fact that I am marrying the man that I love, I am also marrying one of the richest bachelors in Brisbane. This is a true responsibility and now, I will have to carry that for the rest of my life. The pressure is real and I have to be very careful with every action and decision that I have to make. True responsibility huh? Speaking about responsibility dear Lucy; are you ready for the responsibility that you have as a wife? You were bold enough to kiss him that day in the boutique, but are you bold enough to give yourself fully? The

  • The Orphan's Goddess   21. I Would Rather

-Conner’s POV- The wedding went rather smoothly. I saw my uncle Jack with a big smile on his face and Lucy’s parents became emotional as their daughter walked down the aisle. A tingling feeling crept inside my heart. I can feel myself become proud of the woman whom I will call Mrs. Lowell, my wife. She is wearing the trumpet wedding dress covered with crystals which made her look like a fairy. She walked so gracefully that I could almost see her floating rather than just simply walking. A memory flashed back in my mind the moment I laid eyes on her as she walked towards the sea a year ago. I can sense that same feeling I had which I wish to divulge into. However, the thought vanished in an instant when I remembered the scene I saw between Lucy and Nick minutes before our wedding began. The sight of Lucy with Nick was unbearable. What chance do I have over the person who captured Lucy’s heart? Do I even have a place in Lucy’s heart? I thought I had for we had t

  • The Orphan's Goddess   22. Don't Forget

-Lucy’s POV- Nights have passed with only me in this lonely place. I may be married, but it doesn’t feel that way. I am living in Conner’s mansion, but Conner has never been home since the night after our wedding. I guess I angered him when I slapped him on the face that night. It was an initial reaction of how lowly he thinks of me. Serves him right. I gave out a sigh and shook my head. Maybe he is doing what he said he would, that we will get married, but nothing will change. I leave the house at eight in the morning and be back around six in the afternoon. This has been my routine for almost a month now. I didn’t have much to worry for Conner’s staff has always made everything ready for me. However, this very feeling made me remember the agony that I had a year ago. Conner left without a single word, again. The moment I entered the room I took off my jacket and placed it on top of the bed. I opened the glass door to the balcony and was greeted by the icy

  • The Orphan's Goddess   23. I Clearly Remember

-Conner’s POV- I entered the bathroom feeling guilty of what I have done. From the very start I didn’t have plans of coming home at all. This is the very reason why I have avoided Lucy for the past month for I wasn’t certain of my self-control anymore. For some reason this woman had some power on me. Over the past year I have maintained to establish this self-righteous image, but this woman crushed it all instantaneously. Just the thought of her being with another man angers me a lot and is making me act irrationally just like what I did the night after our wedding. I turned on the shower and made the water flow over my body hoping that it would ease the heat from the love making we did. I could still feel her soft skin at my palms, her natural scent and the sweet taste of her lips which made me lose my sanity and just take her without even asking for her approval. Love making? You forced her god dammit! She was pushing you away and you didn’t even stop. It was eve

-Lucy’s POV- I am not sure if what I am doing is right especially that I will be using Chris again to escape from this whole mess that I am in, but I think that I don’t have any other choice. When I asked him if he could take me away he blinked a couple of times trying to digest and let everything sink in. When he figured things out, he held both of my arms and caressed them softly as he gave me a sweet smile. “Lucy, you are truly extraordinary. You never failed to amuse me.” Now, it was my turn to be confused. What is he trying to say? “You are smart woman.” He continued. “and since you are a smart woman. I think you know better that this is not the way to solve things out. We don’t want to do things that we might regret in the long run especially now that you have an angel inside your belly.” He gently placed his hand over my still small belly. Conner was trying to restrain himself from striding towards us and Ronald was quick enough to sense that for he placed his hand

-Lucy’s POV-I slowly opened my eyes when I felt the warmth of the heat of the sun coming from the windowpane. My sight was still a little blurry and so I tried blinking a couple of times to clear my vision. My head was buzzing and I could hear voices talking not far from where I was laying. When my vision cleared I finally realized that I was in what it looked like a clinic. I shifted myself to a sitting position trying to get a glimpse of who the voices belonged to. I then saw Ronald and the doctor was right beside him. It looked like they were listening to somebody else. I was about to stand up when his eyes glanced at me, he immediately rushed towards me to assist me. “Lucy, be careful.” The doctor then followed him and checked on my vital signs. While the doctor was checking on me another figure came inside the room. It was Conner. My eyes widened at the sight of him. Oh for the love of the heavens! Why is he here?! Agh! Ronald! You’ve got some explaining to do! I looked at Ronal

-Conner’s POV-I am in rage! It has been three days since the search for my wife has started and I am truly disappointed. How big is Brisbane for them to not immediately locate my wife?! This is frustrating! Where could she be? I couldn’t sleep well knowing that my wife is somewhere out there on her own and it’s all my fault. Paperworks were piled on the table, but I couldn’t think well. I-I can’t go on like this. I have to concentrate because people are depending on me. I’m going insane! I took out a folder and reviewed its contents when my phone rang. I checked who was calling and it was Ronald. I answered the call in a trance wanting nothing, but good news from him. “Hello, Mr. Lowell.” Ronald started saying when I answered his call. “I’m not really sure how to start, but I want you to know that I want to be loyal to you, but I also want to be loyal to Lucy.” What the heck is Ronald doing. I impatiently groaned and just wanted him to be direct to the point. “Can you cut the crap an

-Lucy’s POV- I am not certain of what to do. The only thing that I wish right now is for Ronald to be by my side. He is the only person I can think of that would truly help me out in this situation. I was too clouded with the emotions I felt because of what Conner did to me, but I didn’t expect this kind of danger that I might put myself into. Of all people, why did I have to encounter the arch enemy of Conner, Amber and Bernard Yates. If I wasn’t Mrs. Lowell I wouldn’t be cornered like this. I sighed. However, I am the Mrs. Lowell and so I no choice, but to find a way how to face this. Should I go back to Conner? My thoughts trailed off, but it was cut off when my phone rang. It was Ronald. “Lucy, I just entered Jhon Street.” I nodded and said, “Just go forward and to your right you should see a mailbox with a print ‘Woods’ on it.” “Got it.” Ronald responded. Just then, I heard voices from outside. I hurriedly stood up and peeked through the window. It was Christopher blo

Lucy’s POV- This day couldn’t get any better. Amongst all the people in the world, why she? The woman who also almost broke my relationship with Conner. What Luck!?! But, wait a second, Bernard Yates. The name sounds so familiar. Could it be? Oh my God! Bernard Yates, the person whom Conner and I had encountered before! The person we had a confrontation with! The CCTV guy! Oh no! this is bad. I have to do something. “What an honor to have THE Mrs. Lowell here in my humble café.” She placed her hand on her chest acting so noble and dramatic. Doesn’t suit you b*tch! “What brings you here Mrs. Lowell? Where is Mr. Conner Lowell?” Her neck could stretch like elastic girl while looking for Conner. “Don’t stress yourself out Amber, I didn’t come here with Conner. I came here with Christopher.” When I looked at Chris I can see the surprise in his eyes. “Y-you’re married? Y-you’re THE Mrs. Lowell?” I almost forgot that I was trying to hide my identity here so that Conner wouldn’t

-Lucy’s POV- The view in Redcliffe is breathtaking! Chris was right! The best way to explore Redcliffe is through a motorcycle ride. The fresh air, the beach, the whole entire package of Redcliffe is astonishing! Why haven’t I come here before? This place makes me feel alive and just forget of all of my worries, but that is far from reality. As much as I want to enjoy this place, I need to get a hold of Ronald so that we can formulate a routine on how to manage the business without getting caught by Conner. It was around 11 o’clock that Chris brought me to this small café called ‘Ultimatum’. I went off the bike first and was about to take off the helmet I was wearing when Chris grabbed my arm to pull me closer to him and took off the helmet himself. Wow! That was smooth! I guess he is just like that, a gentleman. After taking off my helmet he took off his and said, “I hope you don’t mind, this café is not much but this is actually one of my favorites here in Redcliffe. I

-Lucy’s POV-I have a bad feeling about how Chris is acting towards me. Girl you need to lay low. Maybe you are just overthinking about this or assuming too much. My alter ego may be right, but I don’t want to like give Chris the wrong impression. I have to be straight-forward with him and have this sense of assurance that I won’t be misleading him. I shrugged my shoulders and said, “For somebody who is a complete stranger to me, I must say that I am lucky to have found a new friend who is willing to help me in any way he could. Thank you Chris for making things a bit easy for me.” I made it a point to mention the word FRIEND emphasizing the relationship that we have and the only relationship we will ever have. His smile was faint, but it was a smile nonetheless. “Don’t mention it. I would help anyone whole heartedly especially to those whom I think has a pure heart.” My heart started to pound. I am not certain of the reason why, but this is really making me uncomfortable and nervous

    - Conner’s POV -Mr. Laviv’s face turned sour. “What has my daughter done this time?!” I took a deep breath before proceeding. “I don’t want to say it in detail because I still respect her as a woman, as a human being and as your daughter. I can handle her tantrums, but what I can’t is seeing her disrespecting my wife. You see, Mr. Laviv, my wife is the woman whom I was searching for almost two years and now that we are finally reunited I don’t want to miss the chance to win her heart back.” I see Mr. Laviv nodding his head and listening closely to what I am saying “Mr. Laviv, I need you to understand that my wife is more important than anything else. I told Margaret that I am willing to give up our partnership if she will continue barging into my life. So, part of our meeting tonight, I want you to decide whether you will help me make your daughter stop or let’s forget about our partnership. What is it going to be?” Mr. Laviv was shaking his head in disbelief, “Mr. Lowell, I apologiz

    - Conner’s POV-I can never be sure about this woman. Who knows how many tricks she has under her sleeve. Having that thought I casually took out my phone and chatted my trustworthy assistant, Alfred. ‘Alfred, go and check if there is a reservation made by Mr. Laviv at the La Viva Restaurant at 8 in the evening. Give me an update as soon as possible.’ Alfred, as always has an immediate response. ‘Copy that, Mr. Lowell.’ After reading his reply I dialed the number of our house staff. I am really worried about how Lucy is doing now. I haven’t had the chance to explain things with her. I can see the pain and anger in her eyes. For some reason I wasn’t able to react when she said that she no longer wants to listen. It was as if I was struck by lightning, but if I delay my mission I’m afraid that it will be too late for us. The phone rang and a house staff spoke from the other line. “Good afternoon, Mr. Lowell. How may help you?” I took a deep breath hoping that my wife is at home. “Is my
