Chapter 10

On Chris’s 99th confession, I finally said yes.

It was not a carefully thought-out decision, just something I did on a whim.

He responded automatically, "Alright, I’ll try again tomorrow.

"Wait, what did you just say?"

That single “yes” echoed in his mind over and over.

He stood there, frozen like a computer that had crashed.

Then, suddenly, he ran over, lifted me up, and spun me around several times.

"This is amazing! You finally said yes!"

After putting me down, he scooped up our cat, Stella, and gave her a few excited kisses.

"Stella, I really am your dad now!"

Stella, annoyed by all the kisses, swatted him a couple of times.

He just touched the spots she hit and smiled like a lovestruck fool.

I could not help but wonder. What if our future child ended up being as silly as he was?
