"What are you doing here, mom?" He asked with his eyes on her. Not pleased to see her.
"What do you mean what am I doing here? This is my home," She reminded him.
Connor internally rolled his eyes and made his way into the room.
"You can come back for cleaning," Lilian said to Nancy who nodded and took her leave.
Lillian proceeded into her Son's room with the tray.
By the time she got in, he had already put on a shirt.
"It is so unlike you to be in the house by this time. No work today?" Lillian said as she placed the tray on the table in his room which was just opposite his bed. It contained his breakfast, properly covered, and a mug of coffee.
"I was about to go get ready when you all interrupted me."
"Are you sure you're okay? You look terrible. Or is the workload at the office too much for you? You know I can always speak to your father." Lilian said as she stood before her son.
Despite being in her early fifties, She radiated a lot of power, beauty, and prestige. She was indeed the wife of the richest man in the states. The status fitted her so well and she had always loved every bit of it. And despite being that age, Lilian was still looking as beautiful as ever.
"I'm fine, mom. Are you not meant to be on a trip or something?" He asked since that was what she seemed to do lately. Especially since his father retired and handed the company over to him.
"You've not answered my question." Lilian reminded.
"I hardly got any sleep last night and that's why I feel this way."
"Are you sure? Is there anything else bothering you that you aren't telling me about?" She closed the gap between them and was about to cup his face in her hands when he groaned.
"Mom, I'm not a kid. I'm fine."
"I know when you're not being sincere with me and who said you're not a kid? No matter how old you are, you'll forever be my baby."
Connor rolled his eyes.
"So that's what I get for showing concern? Rolling your eyes at me?"
"Mom, you know I love you but believe me when I say I'm fine. I can take care of myself."
"If you say so." Lilian took a step back "And if you need anything, you know where to find me. I know you're grown and all of that but I just hope you share your worries with me."
Conner rolled his eyes again.
"We used to be close, what happened?"
"Mom, I need to get ready for work."
"Whatever, be present for dinner tonight. Your Dad has something to tell us"
"Can't he just text us what it is about?"
"You know your father. This is probably another trick for him to spend time with his family so just be there."
"Promised my guys already that I was going to be at the club."
"Cancel or you go to the club after dinner and don't you dare come to this house drunk if you don't want your father's wrath."
Connor frowned. "Did that goal digger say anything?"
"Who? Did you and Diane fight?"
"I was referring to the maid that came with you."
"Nancy? What's wrong? Did she do anything to upset you?"
"Fire her."
Lilian frowned."Why?"
"Her presence irritates me."
"Are you joking?"
"She's new but I like her. If she hasn't done anything to offend you, I see no reason why you want me to fire her."
"You don't trust me?" Connor stared at his mother.
"I do but you know I don't take shit from nobody when it comes to my staff since it's a great hassle to get trusted ones."
"If she offended you, then there must be a good reason and if you can't tell me the reason then I'm sorry to say, you are going to hold your peace forever."
"So you don't trust your own son? Very interesting to know."
"I trust you, Connor but I also know you."
"These people that come to work for us are humans like us. Some of them have never gotten the privilege to come across people like us. Some of them aren't as educated as we are so you need to be patient with them and not look down on them too."
"As long as they respect you, I feel you should give them the same respect."
Connor rolled his eyes. "Fine, I want her very far away from me. Let someone else be in charge of cleaning my room."
"Is there something you aren't telling me?" She asked again, looking at him suspiciously.
"The girl you're talking about looks really gentle to even annoy you so I don't get."
"Nothing. Her presence just upsets me."
"If you say so! I will assign someone else your room."
"So what's the plan for the celebration?"
"What celebration?"
"Your girlfriend's birthday?"
"Which of them?"
"Connor!" Lilian called out her son's name in disbelief. "I raised you better than that."
"I'll probably tell my secretary to pick something up for her."
"Don't you think it's time to be more passionate about your relationship?"
"You aren't going to stay single forever you know right?" She said when she saw the look on her son's face.
"When that time comes, I'll cross the bridge. But I want to enjoy myself for now."
"Your Dad is going to freak out. You know how much he loves Diane? Anyways, just be careful, and if you know you're not going to make her your bride I would advise you don't lead her on."
"I don't lead anyone on. They are always all over me no matter how hard I try to push them away."
"Still, just make your intentions clearer."
"I'll try." He mumbled.
"You better and don't forget to attend dinner tonight."
Lilian was about to take her leave when she sighted the bandage on his wrist. "What's that?" She turned to face him properly, reaching for his hand.
"It's nothing, mom." He was trying to take his hand away from her hold.
Lilian stared at her Son in disbelief. "Please don't make me feel like a failed mother. I've literally asked you more than three times if everything is well with you."
"And don't you dare deny. You are someone that's not comfortable with any bruise or injury being on your body. How did this happen?"
"I was cutting oranges. My mind wasn't there."
"Like I would believe you. Why would you want to cut oranges when you don't know how to use a knife?"
"Look, it was an accident, mom. I'm fine. I'll probably visit the Doctor today."
"Connor Shawn"
"Please don't start, mom."
"I'm fine. I promise you."
"I don't believe but it's cool. Just stay safe and I'll see you at dinner. Don't come late."
Conner nodded.
She hugged her son.
Connor rolled his eyes but he returned his mother's hug anyways.
Once she took her leave, he helped himself with the coffee and after he was done, he proceeded to the bathroom, to get ready for work.
"Go....Good morning, Sir." Cynthia stammered as she rose to her feet, upon sighting her Boss, Connor. "Update!!" He snapped at her. "The meeting with the Wahlia's. I tried to reschedule with them but they insisted that they would wait till you come." "They are in the conference room, Sir." "I'll see them in 15 minutes." "Okay, sir." "What else?" "Four calls came in for you. All very important Sir. I told them we would get back to them before the end of the day." The secretary said at a go. "I'll take them after the meeting." "Okay, sir." "Anything else?" "Miss Alicia said she had some really important stuff to discuss with you." "Tell her to fuck off." Connor was about to take his leave but stopped when her voice came through. "I tried to tell her Mr. Martin. I tried my best but She was able to get past your office while I was on call, attending to the clients." "You're fired!!!" Connor answered, resuming his steps. "Please Sir, Don't fire me." She took quick steps, run
Connor was meant to be at the house by 7:30 and since they didn't see him as promised, and neither was he picking up their calls, they started eating dinner without him.Halfway through their desert, the very familiar face graced them with his presence."Holy shit!" Nadia didn't realize how loud she said that when she saw her younger brother."What the heck?!" Lilian mumbled, dropping her cutlery."It's nothing. I'm fine. Sorry, I'm late." He mumbled, avoiding their eyes, then made his way over to the table, beside his sister. He drew out the chair for himself, sat comfortably then helped himself with a glass of water. Knowing all eyes were on him, he hoped the water would help in calming his nerves."This morning, it's a cut on your wrist and now you're home with a broken head. What the hell is going on, Connor?" Lilian literally said at the top of her voice."What's going on, Son?" Connor's father's voice came through when he said nothing."I'm fine. A car ran into me. I wasn't putt
"What the hell is wrong with you, Connor? Why will you lay your hands on a woman? I'm starting to think Dad is right about you. What the hell has come over you?! What the actual hell dude?""You're going to regret this!!" Connor directed at Nancy after which he stormed out of their sight.Seeing how scared she was, Nadia held one of her shoulders. "I'm sorry on his behalf. I really don't know what has come over him but he's going to apologize for his unruly behavior. I'm so sorry.""It's fine," Nancy mumbled."Thank you." Giving her a light squeeze, Nadia excused herself, running after her brother who was already entering his car.Just when she was losing hope, She knocked on the window, and luckily, her brother wound down."I know you hate everyone so much right now but for the sake of old times, can you spare me Five minutes?""I'm not in a good mood,Nadia""I know better than to lecture you now that you are not in a good mood. Just let me in. Please."After a second of silence, Con
After driving at a very high speed for the past one hour to nowhere in particular, Connor heaved a deep sigh, slowing down. Never has he had this kind of urge to go to the club but thinking about it, he was not in a good shape at all.His long sleeve shirt would do a perfect job in hiding the bandage on his wrist but the one on his head was just too visible. Paparazzi always got a good glimpse of him whenever he went into and out of the club and the last thing he wanted was to give them something huge to talk about. Before heading home, he had put everything in place to ensure that a word about the little accident was not heard and the last thing on his mind was to ruin everything.Taking another deep breath, not caring if it was late, he reached for his phone and dialed the second number on his call log."Where the fuck are you dude? I've picked some really hot chicks for you. You're going to love them. But where the hell are you? We are all waiting for you.""Can you keep your voic
"That bastard!!" Alero shrieked over the phone."You should have slapped the hell out of him.""And have his parents fire me? This job is my ticket to financial freedom and I'm not ready to let go of it over anyone or anything.""I know. So what are you going to do now?""Nothing.""Nothing??!""Yes. I'll just continue to stay away from him.""What do you mean? You are literally not the one at fault. You did nothing to him. You were only there to serve him some food when he blew up."Nancy sighed as she plopped down on the edge of her bed, still holding her phone against her ear."I still wonder why he feels that way about me.""Don't tell me you're starting to feel sad? Girl, he isn't worth it!""No, this is way beyond sad. Even though I promised myself that I'm not going to think about it anymore, I just can't help but wonder what went wrong."I never knew he noticed me because whenever I'm around him, it's almost as if I'm inexistent. I had no idea he noticed me peeping at him and
Lilian sighed, taking the phone away from her ear after her son ended the call. She knew better not to call him back right now so she exited the closet.Getting back to the room, her eyes met with her husband who was lying on his back, on the bed, swiping through his tab. Lilian rolled her eyes at him. She couldn't believe he could be this calm while she was going out of her mind.Lilian took off her robe and made her way to the other side of the bed where he was. She sat in the space opposite him."You don't need to go around frowning all because you want us to have a good time. Or have you lost your seductive skill?" Emir's mocking voice came through. He didn't even look up from his tablet."We need to talk.""About?" He turned his attention away from his tab to his wife, looking at her inquisitively."I hope this isn't about Connor?!"She was about to say something but he beat her to it."I don't understand you. Why are you stressing about this?""Honey, He's not ready.""You are n
For the first time in a very long while, Connor woke up not caring about literally anything. It was as if he woke up with a new goal which was to live life the way it comes and most importantly not get married to Diane or anyone else. After being awake and staring at nothing in particular for about ten minutes, Connor got up from the bed at some minutes to 8 am. He went straight to the bedroom to do his business after which he started getting ready for work.Connor was almost ready when a knock came through on the door."How's my not-so-favorite patient doing?"Connor rolled his eyes, and went back to the room, taking a seat by the edge of the bed."Well, good morning to you grumpy one." She helped herself in."Nice place." She mumbled, placing the first aid box on the bed beside Coonor."I wonder if I'll ever see you smile again.""Can you just focus on why you are here?!"She scoffed, rolling her eyes. "You better be polite or I'll just pick up my things and leave."Connor gave her
Connor strolled back to the nightstand where he reached for his phone. He ran a hand over his face and scrolled through his contact list. Finally seeing the number he was looking for, he dialed it immediately."What the hell is it that I'm hearing?" He said at the top of his voice, despite the fact that the person on the other end couldn't see him face to face."We are working on it, Sir but it's so hard.""So hard to do what? To get them to unpublish the rubbish they posted? Where are their fucking media ethics? Aren't they meant to verify any information before they start posting lies?""This is not a lie, Sir!""What do you mean? So you know better than me now?""No, Sir. That's not what I mean. I mean no one will believe us that it's false and we can't even sue them on any grounds because Miss Diane made a post about you both on her page. That is enough for the media to do as they please.""And based on our investigation, it was after Miss Diane's post that they started making the
