It was late at night, and Cassie was in her room balcony, with her long red-hair in a cute braid, with a party dress on. Looking down to the guests that were arriving at her mansion to celebrate Cassie’s seventh birthday.
Cassie used to think that the world was magic. That her life was one long party that never ended.
She used to think her parents gave her everything. She never asked where it came from, though.
She loved her family dearly. She loved how she had gotten the same red-hair as her dad and jade-green eyes like her mom.
She adored them so much… she couldn’t see who they really were. Until it was too late.
Her parents had enemies. Or maybe … they were SOMEONE ELSE’S enemies.
“Donna, get Cassie out of here.” Said Cassie’s dad, grabbing a pistol out of his pocket and giving Cassie’s mom another pistol he had gotten out of his other pocket.
“Yes, sir.” Said Cassie’s nanny, Amira, AKA Donna, grabbing Cassie by her hands.
“Wait!” Said Cassie, trying to break free from Amira’s grip. Trying to go to her parents. But it was useless.
The house was already collapsing from all the fire, gunshots and all the dead people scattered all around the place. Cassie held on tight to Amira, as Amira picked her up and ran towards the safe room.
It was a massacre. From all the thousands and thousands of people that came to celebrate Cassie’s birthday party. Cassie and Amira were the only ones that got left behind.
Cassie couldn’t stop crying. She now had lost everything she had. Her mom, her dad, all her family, her house, her HOME. She lost it all in the blink of an eye.
After there was no sound of gunshots, Amira took careful steps to look around. But Cassie was getting impatient, so she got out first, not listening to her nanny call her name.
When she saw nothing but dead bodies and ashes, she collapsed into tears. She tried to find her parents, but failed miserably. She lost everything and everyone.
“Come with me, Cassie,” said Amira, hugging and consoling the crying, now 7-year-old girl from behind.
“My parents..” said Cassie, with a breaking voice, and tears falling, “They’re all gone.” Said Cassie crying even harder.
Amira grabbed Cassie by her arms, and turned Cassie to face Amira.
Amira wasn’t crying at all, in fact, she had a stoic expression, “We must make you strong, Cassie,” said Amira, putting her hands on Cassie's little shoulders, “Stronger than they were.”
“Strong like you?” Cassie asked, all innocently. Cassie thought that out of everyone she knew, her nanny was the strongest.
“I am strong in order to protect the children under my care. And I can teach you,” said Amira, softening her gaze, “How to protect other children like you.”
“To protect others like me…” said Cassie, looking at the dead people and the burned house. She didn’t want any other kid like her to go through the same thing, “Show me,” said Cassie, turning to look at her nanny, tears still falling, but with a brave face on.
Present day
Cassie spent the next fifteen years at ESNA… building her strength..
ESNA stands for Elite Secret Nanny Academy. The location? Confidential. Only people with high connections or people from the Mafia knew this place even existed.
Mrs. Amira Oakley took her in. Adopted her. Raised her. Trained her. Now Amira was the new Headmistress of ESNA. And Cassie, after waiting for fifteen years, finally felt ready for her first assignment.
“This is a dangerous proposal, Mr. Ricci,” said the Headmistress of ESNA, at her desk. Looking at Damian. “With this salary, we could provide you one of our top performers, with over a decade of experience—”“No,” said Damian, cutting her short. “I require exclusivity,” he straightened his black jacket and crossed his legs, “I want someone who’s never worked with anyone else before.” “I see,” said the Headmistress, looking in one of her drawers. She took out all the files with a list of all the candidates, “These are our most recent graduates.” She said, spreading the papers on the table for Damian to see. “All awaiting their first assignment.”Damian bent down to look at the candidates, but all he saw was young women who looked like they didn't even know what the world was outside of this secret academy. Damian passed a hand through his dark-blonde hair and made a hard sigh. He put his index finger on his forehead and the thumb on his chin, “And they’re all … Qualified?” He asked,
"Come, my darling." Said a voice tenderly. Cassie noticed it was her mom. She looked like nothing had happened at all. Her mother was alive and Cassie ran towards her to hug her, but as soon as she touched her, she disappeared. Cassie stared where her mom was, then looked at her hands, and collapsed to the floor. She now was in the last place where she saw her parents alive, before getting killed. The thing is, she was no longer a child. She was an adult but with the body of a seven-year-old. And she saw people running and screaming, but no one noticed her. The place was burning, but she was not. People were dying, but she wasn’t.Then someone with gray hair and blue eyes comes in front of her and looks behind her. Cassie turns, just to see her parents. The man lunged at her parents and stabbed a dagger in Cassie's mom's stomach, she then spat blood. Cassie's dad grabbed her mom and cried frantically. He then fought the man and stabbed him, but a bullet pierced his chest, making h
Cassie saw that her new employer was tall. Cassie was five foot seven but the man still towered over her. She remembered his name, Damian. He had sapphire-blue eyes, that Cassie felt she was getting sucked into. Damian had broad shoulders and long arms, not to mention fingers. Damian Ricci was wearing a black suit, with the first three buttons of his shirt opened, he was wearing a gold cross necklace, and with his dark-blonde hair pulled back. When Amira finished introducing them both, Cassie stared into Damian’s eyes. So this is him, Cassie thought, the Mafia Boss and Damian Ricci is…Cassie could see that one of Damian’s mouth corners twitched, and that he was fighting not to smile, “Can she speak?” Asked Damian to the Headmistress. Is a total complete jerk. Thought Cassie.”Forgive me, Mr. Ricci,” said Cassie, trying to force a sweet smile, “I’m Cassie Oakley,” she said, extending her hand for him to shake, “I look forward to working with you.”“Who wouldn’t?” Said Damian, smirki
“Noted.” Said Cassie, giving Damian the side eye with a frown on her face.Damian moved and settled down on his seat, straightening his black jacket, and pulling his hair bangs away from his face.“Oranges, right Boss?” Said Blake, leaning towards his uncle and putting his right hand to his left cheek, trying to whisper.Cassie couldn’t hear Damian’s response, because she was too busy with her own thoughts. His smart car's WiFi is unsecured, yet he lectures me about safety? Thought Cassie. She then started typing violently, hacking into the car’s system, hoping to prove Damian Ricci wrong. But that only got Blake’s attention.“What’re you doing?” Blake asked, skeptical, with his eyebrows raised, with his eyes taking a peek.At that moment, the window made a splat sound. The window that separated them with the driver (Jordan), immediately slid down. Causing Blake to flinch and Damian to look where the sound had come from. “Woah!” Said Blake, with his mouth forming an O.“Need somethin
“Your only duty is to not let my son out of your sight.” Said Damian, in Cassie’s ear. Glaring at her.“Not let him—” Cassie turned to where Blake threw the juice box. And looked around.“Seems like you have somewhere to be, don’t you?” Said Damian, behind Cassie’s back, looming over her. “Yes, sir.” Said Cassie. Damian saw Cassie’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Damian followed Cassie to the entrance of the mansion, but was careful not to make Cassie look at him.Cassie had gotten out of the mansion, with Damian following her, “Blake?” Shouted Cassie, with both hands each in one corner of her mouth.“Get off of me!” Shouted Blake, just like they had agreed. Damian saw how Cassie’s head snapped towards the sound. “Help! Somebody help me!” Shouted Blake, when the people Damian had hired, grabbed Blake by the arms and hair, to put him in the van with black tinted windows.“Blakey!” Shouted Cassie, running towards the van, “STOP!” She yelled, but it was of no use, the van had alr
Jordan grabbed a gun and pointed Cassie with it, “I’m going to need you to get out of the car.” He glared, pointing at her with the gun, clicking.“What?”Cassie’s eyes widened, hugging Blake tighter while looking at Jordan with concern.“Get out. Of the car,” said Jordan, gesturing to her, with the gun, to get out, “leave the kid… and you can take this case with 2 million dollars in it.” He added, showing Cassie a brown portfolio.“You’re with the kidnappers?” Said Cassie, putting Blake out of her lap to put an arm in front of him. While glaring at Jordan.“You mean those thugs Damian hired to test you?” He aske

Samantha was murdered.”At the mention of his mom’s name, Blake flinched and made a soft sound while avoiding looking at anyone. Cassie knocked twice, before Damian said, “Enter.”She hesitated for a moment before entering. But when she gained the courage to enter, she took a deep breath, passed a hand, carefully, through her bun-tied red-hair, and opened the door.Cassie entered and saw that there was a leather sofa with a fur rug over the back and an Indian blanket draped over the arm. The far wall has a large fireplace and mantle dominating the center, with bookshelves lining it on either side. On the mantle, he had two antique clocks and a painting of three jazz musicians. There was a television on the shelf to the right. In front of that shelf is an upright piano and bench in dark walnut. Hanging on the wall above the piano is an abstract painting of jazz musicians. There is a double door between his desk and the piano w
Cassie “Those traitors.” He whispered, “You think he trusts any of them after what happened to my mom?! We can only trust our family. They all say so.” He trembled. “I have to keep papa safe. I can’t leave him alone.” Surely he doesn’t think… his OWN bodyguards let it happen on purpose, Cassie’s head echoed with thoughts. Cassie took a deep breath, softened her gaze, and kneeled down to Blake, “Look, what happened to your mother was absolutely terrible. But your security team probably did their best—” “You don’t know anything.” He whispered. And he was right, Cassie didn’t know how his mother died, sure she died of poisoning but the how, how?, she certainly didn’t know. But Blake was wrong in one thing: in the “anything” part. Cassie knew exactly what he went through, she saw her parents return to ashes and be burned alongside the mansion, and the people she loved so dearly. “You’re wrong.” She lowered her voice, “I know one thing: I am not like any other bodyguar
Damian was seated behind Jordan while they drove towards the situation that was happening in the Croatian Syndicate. They were using a secret road full of trees that no one knew existed. “Incoming call, Boss.” Said Jordan, glancing at the screen. Damian was with his laptop, typing, but then raised his head to look out the window, then asked, “From whom?” Jordan stopped at a stop sign and looked at Damian from the rearview mirror, with an apologetic expression. “Milan.” He said. Damian’s face tensed. That call could only mean his adoptive father was calling or Lucas was calling for money. What does he want now? He said to himself. “We can’t keep the Don waiting, Boss.” Said Jordan, gripping the leather steering wheel, and turning to the right into the highway. Damian sighed, and said, “Put it through.” the screen in his laptop changed into a face-call with his father. An old man, who looked like he was in his mid 50’s with white hair and a long beard appeared. “Gabr
It was 4:45 in the morning and Cassie sat on her bed, rubbing her eyes with her hands because she couldn’t get a wink of sleep. Why can’t I sleep in peace? She thought, passing a hand through her long, silky red hair and tucking a small strand of hair behind her ear. She went to the nightstand beside her bed and grabbed a bottle of water to drink from it. I searched the room for cameras and found nothing… She pondered, but the feeling of being watched hasn’t gone away. Cassie went to her closet to grab her nanny uniform. Went to the bathroom to brush her teeth, comb her hair and put on some makeup and perfume, all while thinking: My room is perfect. Like everything in this house. But I can’t help but feel like there’s something ugly underneath. I just know it. Cassie did her hair in a different way and she had to be careful not to look too much like she had cut it all off. She made her bed and cleaned the room. By the time she finished cleaning, it was 5:50 and the sun
He looked just as surprised as Cassie was for seeing each other right then and there.Cassie stiffened and Damian looked—stared at her.Damian was wearing his dark blue three-piece tuxedo with his golden cross, first three buttons of his white shirt unbuttoned, like always, and his blonde hair was pulled backwards.Cassie was wearing her normal Nanny uniform which was a formal pink jacket with a white shirt and a long skirt with black shoes.Simple as that.Cassie stepped aside for Damian to go get the coffee Signora Conte left behind for him. Is he seriously
“Sì?” Giulia asked, smiling softly. “Give us a moment, please.” He continued to glare at Cassie. “Sì, signore.” Said Giulia, smiling cockily at Cassie. Cassie blushed and flinched. Now I’ve done it, she thought. When Giulia left, Damian stood up abruptly, scraping the chair against the floor. “Come with me.” He said, in all seriousness, walking to the sliding doors that led to the maze in the garden. “Mr. Ricci, I–” “Not another word.” He ignored her, taking a step outside to touch the grass. Cassie followed. “Enzo.” Damian nodded to the same bald guy Cassie had seen before. “Boss.” Enzo nodded, but flinched when he saw Cassie behind Damian, Enzo growled at Cassie.Damian heard that and grabbed Cassie by her right arm and pulled her closer. I appreciate not being chastised in front of the other staff, but he’s taking it a bit far. Cassie thought. When they were far away from earshot, Damian stopped and turned to her. Cass
“You’ll wish you’d died protecting him.” he whispered into Cassie’s ear. This made Cassie’s heart race, Ba-thump, Ba-thump, Ba-thump. And NOT in a good way. What have I done? She shut her eyes, and felt her fingers tremble. If a Mafia Boss would say that, then I don’t know what’ll happen to me the next time I try to confront him. Cassie . Damian went silent, and Cassie felt his eyes on her. “Make yourself at home.” Was all he said before leaving Cassie alone.… Cassie sat on her bed with her laptop, writing in her journal. He meant it, She wrote, His eyes said it all. That man… he wouldn’t hesitate to kill me slowly. Cassie wrote all of the emotions she felt during the conversation with Damian. … “I can take those.” said Cassie to Jordan when she saw him walking down the corridor with her luggage. She had gone downstairs so she could grab some cold juice or something that would make her cool down after the… incident in Damian's office. Jo
