SERENA’S POV
My eyelids fluttered open, only to see Lucas, staring at me from the chair he sat on. I didn’t know for how long he had been staring at me, but he still kept his straight gaze even when I opened my eyes and stared back. “I think you passed out due to the overwhelming anger you felt.” He finally spoke, after a minute of weird silence between us.I scoffed a little, and pursed my lips before releasing them again. “How is it possible for me to pass out due to an overwhelming anger?” I questioned, finding his statement or discover, ridiculous. “Well, Serena, you’re probably still trying to handle things with your wolf, especially because you are in your natural habitat. You might experience stranger things.” He said, then rose to his feet suddenly. My gaze followed his movement until he halted at the door. “By the way, this is my room, and this is where you’ll be sleeping.” He informed me, with a straight expression.I suddenly felt rage building up from within me, and it kept building up until I couldn’t hold it anymore. “How’s that possible! Why would you keep me captive here, when you can’t find my parents, or give me the information I need?” I snapped at him, ferociously. “As I said earlier, you are now my captive.” He spoke, then opened the door, and walked out.I got down from the bed immediately, feeling much better than before, and just before I could open the door, I heard it click. “Damn it!” I cursed out loud. He had locked the door, knowing fully well that I could come after him. I raised my hands, and hit the door several times to get his attention, regardless of he comes back angry or not, but there was no response from anyone. I relented, and let out a frustrated grunt, then dropped to the floor on my butt. I buried my face in my palms, and a tear escaped my eyes. There was no way I could reach out to my mother, or anyone who could strategize his or her way here, to get me out of this mess; my phone was lost already. My mother would have tried so many times to reach me, and would be so worried by now.A sense of guilt overwhelmed me; making me feel wicked for killing her husband, and then leaving her to be all alone.Slowly, I allowed my whole body to lay on the cold floor while I stared at the ceiling in tears. The restriction my parents gave me back then, was still much better than being a captive here. If only I wasn’t so stubborn, and went out to the bar on my 18th day, if only I had been obedient that day, father would still be alive until now. ~ “Miss… Miss.” I heard a soft voice, call out gently, and my eyes opened slowly.I wasn’t aware that I had slept off until this lady appeared. She looked innocent, and humble. She was wearing a short, white pinafore, and her hair was covered. “Who are you?” I asked as I sat up, then stood up with the help of the bed I rested my hand on.“I’m Cindy, and I will be taking care of your needs until Alpha Lucas prefers not to. I’m here to give you what was prepared for dinner.” She spoke humbly, then showed me where she had placed my food; which was on the bedside table.I noticed she had left the key, inserted in the keyhole, and judging from the way she had been acting, she seemed like an easy person. All I just had to do was to devise a plan. “Alright, thanks. I’ll need you to do one more thing.” I said to her as I sat on my bed, and crossed my legs.“What’s that, miss?” “I need you to prepare a warm bath for me. The night seems a bit chilly for me.” I requested of her as I kept my eyes fixed on her. “Alright then.” She responded, then walked right into the bathroom.I immediately tiptoed, and took the key out of the keyhole.“If you aren’t going to set me free, I would do that myself.” I uttered, under my breath.Shortly after she went into the bathroom, she came back outside.“It’s ready, miss.” “Alright. Another maid actually came here to call you. She said Lucas has asked for your presence.” I said to her, hoping she would take the bait.“Oh, my goodness!” She exclaimed, looking horrified, then she hurriedly left and shut the door behind her. I waited a bit to know if she was at the door, looking for the key, but she had left, forgetting other necessary things.I smiled, and then kept the key in my pocket. I opened the door slowly to avoid any attention, then stepped out of my room. This was risky, but still, if I could risk everything to come over here to find out who I truly am, then this should have nothing on me.As I got out of my room, I walked gently to the stairs, and tiptoed down the stairs, leading to the hallway that led to the exit of the palace main building. I managed to get to the exit and found myself in the palace’ surroundings. Feelings of excitement whirled from deep within me; but at the same time, I felt the dissatisfaction Lorna had.“I don’t care if you’re happy about my escape or not, I’m going back to my mother.” I said, nonchalantly. The night sky was bright, and the crescent moon shone its bright light like it was bestowing blessings upon me. Immediately I sensed a few guards coming my way, I quickly in a secluded corner until they passed by. “Phew! That was close.” I uttered under my breath as my body got relieved of its agitation.I walked out of the secluded corner, staring at the guards as they left, until I bumped into someone and fell to the ground. “Shit!” I cursed under my breath as I groaned in pain, forgetting the fact that I wasn’t meant to be seen by anyone. But then, I realized that, and looked up quickly to find out who I had just bumped into, and to my shock, It was Lucas, with his eyes, looking razing red. ALPHA LUCAS’ POV I flipped the pages of the book on my table, trying to bury my head into something else for a while. That Serena of a woman kept getting into my head, and as I had not discovered what exactly to do with her, she was more of a disturbance if she kept evading my head. “So, what are you planning to do with her?” Elijah asked, finally breaking the silence that reigned between us for a while, except for the sound I made with flipping pages. I connected the heel of my palm on my face, and tried not to let out my frustration, then dragged my hands down until I placed them back on the book.“I don’t want to talk about this, Elijah. Talk about something else.” I said to him, ignoring his question. “But…”He was interrupted by the sound of a gentle knock. From the sound of the heart beat outside, I could tell the person was nervous about something.“Come in.” I urged as I leaned back on my seat, staring at the door and waiting for the person to walk right in. “I was told you… you asked of me, Alpha. I’m sorry if I must have stayed later than expected in her room. She… she asked me to prepare a bath for her.” “Hold on. Who told you I asked of you?” I questioned her, sensing something suspicious. “Miss Serena told me you sent a maid to call for me.” Right there, I knew something was off, because I sent no one to send for her.“Where is the key to her room?” I asked, calmly, but with a cold expression. Cindy dipped her hands into her pockets, and her eyes widened in shock as if she had realized something. “Shit!” I cursed out loud, and growled, then dashed out of the study room as I had realized what exactly happened. I hurried to my room only to find out that she wasn’t there. Even if I didn’t know what to do yet, with her. I couldn’t let her escape as she was likely an enemy. I quickly ran out of the main building and to the compound, searching around for her until I caught her scent, and trailed it down to where I saw her, staring back at the guards who must have missed her. I stood firmly, waiting for her to look forward, but she failed to, and bumped into me, which caused her to fall down. “Shit!” She cursed out loud in pain. Then she stopped moving like she realized something, and she looked up at me.“Oh, no.” She muttered under her breath. ~ “Let me go!” She yelled out as the guards dragged her back into the room and I watched as they closed the door, and locked it up.“Alpha, here is the key.” One of the guards presented it to me, and I collected it from me, then headed to the garden to clear my head. While standing in the middle of the garden, staring into blank space, Elijah came to me. “I think a decision should be made, regarding her, because you can’t keep her locked in the room, all day. She came here to find answers. Locking her up could also prevent you from finding answers as well.” Elijah expressed his concern, which I understood.Ever since I knew that she is somewhat connected to the rogues, I couldn’t just help but feel a growing hatred for her, and it doesn’t seem to stop, despite the fact that we are mates. The case she is connected to, is a very sensitive case for me. Having my father die, when I hadn’t learned a lot from him, or spent as much time as I wanted, with him, was the worst, the rogues did to me. The mystery surrounding the leader of the rogues fueled my desire to know exactly who it was and give him the punishment he deserves. Going back to three years when I became the Alpha after my father’s death, I had sworn to the moon goddess to wipe out all that were involved in my father’s death, and to also destroy their lineage. Seeing as my fated mate seems to be connected with them, it broke my heart and confused my mind on what to do. Going back on promises, especially one which was sworn to the moon goddess wasn’t very good to do. “Lucas.” Elijah called my name, breaking me out my chain of thoughts.“For now, I’m just going to keep an eye on her. If you feel I need to stop keeping her locked in the room, then I could do that. But you’ll have to keep a watch on her. Any suspicious move she makes, you have to report it to me.” I instructed him, and he nodded. “I’ll certainly do that. But I have a feeling she might not be connected to the rogues at all.” Elijah made his thoughts known to me.“Time will tell.” I uttered, and let out a sigh. But shortly after we ended the conversation, I felt something strange within me. It was something really strange which I had never experienced before; like someone dear to me was in danger. “Something is going on.” I spoke out, attracting Elijah’s attention.“What’s that?” Elijah asked, out of concern.I couldn’t tell what exactly was going on, but the feeling was sickening and disturbing to an extent that I could punch my fist right into a wall. “Mate.” My wolf purred sadly. “She’s in danger.” He informed me. That’s when it came to my realization that something was wrong with Serena. “Goodness!” I voiced out angrily, wondering what she had gotten herself into. Then I dashed out of the garden, with Elijah, following after me.I hurriedly ran into the main building and ran up the stairs as fast as I coul. On getting to close to the room, a maid who I saw, looking scared, halted before me. “It’s Miss Serena. She’s bleeding seriously.” She informed me, with a horrified look on her face.SERENA’S POVI couldn’t relent just because I was thrown back into the room, and locked in, again.“Think, Serena. Think.” I urged myself as I paced around the room, with folded arms.I placed my thumb on my lower teeth while pacing around until one perfect idea came to my mind. A smile formed, right from the corner of my lips as I settled on the bed to think deeply on it.One other way that could make my escape, from here, faster is to do something which would land me in hospital., and it had to be something which would seem really serious. “Alright! I know what to do.” I uttered as I rose to my feet abruptly. There was nothing as sharp as a knife here, except for my hair pin which they had placed on the bedside drawer for me. I didn’t know where the boldness came from, but the next thing I knew was that I had done the deed.Blood was dripping from my wrist, non-stop, and my face squeezed to express my pain. It’s all for my freedom, anyways. I walked up to the door, and hit it as hard
SERENA’S POVI smiled as he turned to me completely, and then I didn’t waste a second before walking up to him. My head was filled with bursts of fireworks as I felt like a pro.“So, now you see I have something on you.” I uttered as I folded my arms. “If you don’t want me to reveal your forbidden feelings to the whole world, you have to help me with my escape.” To my shock, he only stared at me from my head, down to my toes in one bat of his eyes, then he pushed his door open, and went into his room.Did he just ignore my threat? Or he didn’t hear a word I said?I wasn’t ready to back down; not at this point. He was definitely acting that way so I would feel I had nothing on him. I pulled his door knob and hit the door, and unexpectedly, I fell into his room.I was only intending to act like I was going to cause some attention with hitting his door, not knowing he didn’t lock his door. Immediately, I picked myself up only to meet his straight gaze which seemed like he was a little pi
SERENA’S POVA little smile came up on his face, and then he let out a sigh.“If you’ll do that, then you might not really have a way to escape, then.” He said, giving me an annoying expression that made it obvious that he knew I would still be at the losing end if I told Lucas about it.But I couldn’t let him feel I had something to lose.“I could easily find another way to escape this shit of a palace, but you, you could actually be sentenced to do death, or anything. So, you’ve got more to lose.” I said, in a feisty manner. Then a guard walked in suddenly, and he bowed to Elijah. Elijah then turned to me.“Enjoy the rest of your day.” He said, then turned around to leave.I could have confronted him or stopped him from heading out, but I didn’t want the guard to think there was something going on or anything. That would only spoil whatever I was planning. In annoyance, I walked back to my room, and buried my head in my pillows. If Lucas wanted us to meet again this evening, could
SERENA’S POVThe anger mixed with pain led me to an outburst. I growled out loud and my claws came out, along with my fangs that tore out of my gum. This time, I didn’t turn into a wolf, but I could feel almost the same strength I felt, back then. The only difference was that I was a little in control, here. But the anger and pain in me, took a bigger part of the control. Before I could think deeply on what I was about to do, I raised my right hand, and clawed him right under his belly, which caused him to let out a loud growl. As I removed my hand from his belly which I had dug into, the wolf still tried to attack me, but before I could give it a deadly attack which I had in mind, I heard a growl which made me feel small, and my wolf whimpered. It sounded more like a command, coming from someone mighty, and something about it, felt familiar, and yet, not familiar. My claws and fangs went in, while the wolf turned back into human. I looked away so as not to see his nakedness, and my ey
SERENA’S POV“He is… he is your brother?” I asked again to confirm what my ears had just heard.“Yes.” She nodded, with a smile on her face.Disappointment reigned in my heart, and I felt my interest, being right here in this garden, die down. All hopes were lost, and what gave me the assurance that I would escape from here, vanished like thin air.I felt hopeless, lost, and empty to an extent that I just wanted to go to my room, and crouch down in the darkness, letting my tears out, and allowing the guilt of leaving my mother, settle in my heart, and beating me up.What was my gain of coming here? Ever since I came here, I hadn’t found one single thing that gave me a clue on what I came here for. Truly, the word going around about how mother knows best, is right, and correct.“Mother knows best.” I uttered under my breath as my voice shook a little.“Did you say something?” Mara asked, looking curious. Then I looked up at her gentle, and calm face.“Nothing. I actually thought you and Luc
SERENA’S POVHer eerie smile caused me to feel a déjà vu. Even her make up was like that of those who loved to play the role of the witches in dramas.“Is…is there a problem?” I asked, trying not to allow her weirdness get to me.“No. I just realized we weren’t given a chance to introduce ourselves to each other. I’m Alice, by the way.” She introduced herself, with a smile on her face, as she extended a hand to me.“I’m Serena.” I responded cautiously, and shook her hand.“That’s lovely. It’s been a while since we had visitors, and it quite excites me to have you here. Will you allow me do you the honor of showing you around? Oh, hold on. Since it’s evening, I’ll like to show you a place that will make you marvel, instead.” She suggested, with a slight smile on her face.Although, I felt a bit hesitant to agree to go with her, but then, it wouldn’t hurt to forge a friendship with her just until it was time for us to leave this pack.“Alright then. We aren’t going to stay out too late, ri
ALPHA LUCAS’ POVI woke up the next day, and as I turned my head to the other side, I was faced with beauty before me. Her face was literally perfect, and even the way she slept quietly, and like a baby, made me feel the desire to touch her.I didn’t know when my hands moved towards her hair, and removed the hair strands which were covering her eyes a bit.Although, she had assured me that she would stay indoors, and while I know it wouldn’t be as easy as she thinks, it was my responsibility to find a way her stay, in the room could be much better. I got down from the bed gently so as not to wake her as she had difficulty, sleeping, last night. As I got down from the bed, I picked my phone up, and texted my idea to someone who could help me get things done. After doing that, I got ready for my early morning meeting with Alpha Jordan and his pack council. And in no time, I was all prepared, and headed out to the meeting hall which could be easily located, as I had been shown where it
SERENA’S POV“What’s wrong?” I heard Lucas ask me as he touched my shoulder, looking into my eyes, with so much concern.I blinked my eyes and looked around, then turned my eyes back at him. I must have been in a trance or something. Even as I realized that it wasn’t real, and that my eyes was just seeing things, it still weighed down on me that I heard something like that.“I think you need some rest.” He said to me, and I nodded my head.“Yeah, I guess.” I responded, and then we both turned to leave. We walked back to the palace, and when we got back into the room, he helped me to the bed, and laid me down.“You’ll be fine. I guess you’re still suffering from the dive into that river.” He uttered, and I sighed. He could possibly be right. The jump was a deep and traumatic one, so I could be suffering from the whole thing. But I hoped I was going to be fine, soon, because this was really scary, and could literally take my life, due to constant shock, and fear.“Thank you.” I appreciated
Elijah's POVMy body was numb, my chest burning with every shallow breath. I thought this was it. Maybe I deserved it. I stirred slowly from my slumber, feeling anything but refreshed. Exhaustion pressed down on me like an unrelenting fog, thick and suffocating. A strange tiredness pulled at me, beckoning me back to the comforting depths of sleep. With a heavy sigh, I turned over, letting the darkness claim me again. It was easier to face the dreamscape than the misery I called life.Distant murmurs began to slip into my consciousness, faint and far away, like whispers traveling through walls."Who is he?" someone whispered, their voice low but filled with curiosity. "Alpha Elijah?""Why did the Alpha Lucas bring him back? Didn't he betray us?"I blinked, my eyelids heavy and my vision blurred as I tried to focus. Shadows moved around me, but nothing came into clarity. My body refused to cooperate, and the pull of sleep was too strong. I let it take me again, the voices fading into t
Elijah's POVAfter watching Lucas go off to find Serena, i moved closer to Vincent. "We should deploy explosives at crescent grove to avoid Lucas taking her back inside where it's heavily guarded." "That is a brilliant idea." he praised before leaving my side to pass on his order. After ony a few minutes, the explosions rang out, blood stained the ground, and the cries of wolves echoed through the air. Suddenly i realised that one of those fools had actually sent one right at Serena. I quickened my pace as i tried to get to her, but Lucas got to her first and ended up hurt too in the process. My eyes fell on Lucas and Serena, lying motionless on the ground where the explosion had thrown them.I could hear both their breathings and so i felt slightly relieved. Some of Lucas warriors rushed to them. shielding their bodies from incoming attacks. Others carried the injured away, their faces grim and streaked with sweat and blood.Vincent mst've also seen their unconscious bodies as he su
LUCAS' POV Behind us. the battle raged on. I could hear my warriors shouting, feel the vibrations of their struggles. but all I saw was Elijah. His movements were sharp, calculated. but there was a desperation in his eyes. He wasnt as confident as he wanted me to believe."You can still stop this. Lucas." he said. panting as we broke apart for a moment. "We dont have to fight.""Youre right." I said, my voice dripping with venom. "I should've killed you the moment you betrayed me."He growled, his patience snapping, and lunged at me again. This time, I was ready. I dodged his attack and slammed my claws into his side, drawing a deep gash.He howled in pain, stumbling back, but he didnt fall. Instead, he grinned, blood dripping from his teeth, "Is that all you've got?""You havent seen anything yet." I said, my voice a deadly promise.I charged again, this time aiming for his legs. He tried to dodge. but I was faster, slashing at his thigh and forcing him to drop to one knee."lis ove
LUCAS' POV The battlefield was chaos. The air smelled of blood, sweat, and the metallic tang of fear. Screams, growls, and the clash of weapons drowned out every other sound. The Crescent Grove Pack was holding its ground, but barely.I stood in the center of the fray, my wolf straining to take control as I fought beside my warriors and allies. The humans were scattered around us, their rifles doing less damage than we’d hoped. The Bloodhounds were brutal, tearing through everything in their path with an animalistic hunger that even the strongest of us struggled to match.“Gamma!” I yelled over the noise, spotting Gavin locked in a brutal fight with two Bloodhounds. His claws were coated in blood, his face twisted in a snarl.“I’ve got it!” he roared back, ripping through the neck of one opponent before launching himself at the other.I spun around, looking for the next threat, only to see one of our humans fall, his body limp and lifeless.“Pull back!” I shouted to the human soldier
LUCAS' POV The sound of screaming jolted me fully awake now. A sudden loud explosion ripped through the peaceful air. The entire room shook, dust falling from the ceiling. I bolted upright almost immediately."What the hell?" I cursed. Another boom followed, this time closer. From the noises outside I could tell it was time for the main deal, it wasn't just Elijah's pack out there but other packs too. That's why the spy had suddenly gone out last night, he knew they'd attack today.A frown formed on my face as I rushed to put on my shirt. I paused midway with the top still over my head and looked at Serena whose eyes were on fixed on me with worry and guilt. "Just a sec," I said as I turned back to the door, opening it slightly I said, "Go to Beta Liam and ask that he get the army ready. I will be with you all soon." The wolf warrior after hearing my orders, nodded and walked away as fast as possible."Attack?" Serena mumbled, looking slightly conscious. "Blood Hound and Silver moo
LUCAS' POV I was on the floor, slumped against the wall, her head resting on her knees. Tear stains marked the corners of her eyes, her breathing uneven, like she’d cried herself to exhaustion. My chest ached at the sight.I crouched down beside her, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Serena, wake up,” I said softly, but she didn’t stir, even a little bit.Her face looked pale, her eyes puffy. Whatever she’d been going through, it had pushed her past her limits and her body mustv'e responded to it.“Damn it, Serena,” I muttered under my breath as I slid an arm under her legs and another around her back, lifting her easily. She felt so light, too light. She didn’t wake as I carried her to the bed. Her head lolled against my chest, her breathing was faint but it didn't sound like she was having difficulties breathing.I laid her down gently, pulling the blankets over her. The tear stains on her cheeks hadn’t dried yet, and it made me pause. I wanted to fix whatever had caused th
SERENA’S POVThe rest of the day felt empty, tense and uncomfortable but mostly empty. I tried to keep busy, but my thoughts kept circling back to Lucas and the argument we had. It wasn’t that I was angry with him—I wasn’t. I was just... worried. Worried about him, about the pack, about everything.Everyone around the pack house felt the same. The tension was thick, like a storm brewing that no one could stop. I hated it. I hated the way it made my chest feel tight, the way it made everyone so distant from each other. The pack house has literally nver been this quiet.By the time the sun started dipping below the horizon, I was sitting on my bed, staring at the wall, doing absolutely nothing. My arms rested on my knees, and my fingers twisted the edge of the blanket over and over.A knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts and i raised my head to gaze at the door.“Serena? It’s me,” my mother’s voice came softly from the other side.I sighed. “Come in.”The door creaked open, and
SERENA’S POVBreakfast felt tense, the kind of tense that made the air heavy and hard to breathe. Lucas sat across from me, his shoulders stiff, his eyes dark as he cut into his toast. The clink of the knife against the plate grated on my nerves. I wasn’t even sure why I was so jittery this morning. Maybe it was the silence. Or maybe it was everything else. It wasn't just me, but literally every one in the pack house were on edge. All stares on me.I shifted in my seat, poking at the eggs on my plate. My stomach churned too much to eat. My mind replayed the sudden attack on the pack, the blood on Lucas and the screams I could hear even though I was in the underground escape. I hated this. All of it. The war. The endless fighting. So many people died yesterday. All because of me.Warriors lost their lives. A mother lost her child, a child lost it's father, a man and female lost their brother and a wife lost her mate. It was all too unfair to everyone. War doesn't always have to be the
SERENA'S POV “What?” Mother said, her voice louder now. “Why didn’t anyone tell me this?”I frowned. “I did tell you.”She raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms. “No, you didn’t. I would’ve remembered something that important.”“I swear I told you,” I said defensively, crossing my own arms.“You didn’t.”“I did!”“When?”The argument went on for a few more seconds before I sighed, realizing I couldn’t actually remember. “Okay, maybe I forgot,” I admitted, feeling sheepish. She shook her head dramatically. “You forgot? Serena, that’s not something you forget! That’s life-changing!”I was about to respond when the door to the escape creaked open, and the Beta stepped inside. His face was serious, but there was something lighter in his eyes.“The war is over,” he said simply. For a moment, I just stared at him, my heart racing. “It’s over?”“Yes,” he said with a nod. “You’re safe to come out now.”I didn’t wait for him to say anything else. I bolted past him, my feet pounding against the
