Chapter 3

The rest of the school week went by in a daze. I didn’t know how to tell my family that I was hearing a voice in my head that was trying to convince me that I was a werewolf or that I was starting to believe it. The more Leah and I talked, the stronger my connection to her felt and the more truthful her words felt. It was true that I had always been stronger than other females and a lot of males. Being something more than human just seemed to feel like the right explanation. But how do you tell the people closest to you that you are human as they had once believed and convince them that you aren’t crazy.

Leah and I spent the rest of the week discussing what course of action to take, debating on whether or not we should keep this to ourselves or tell those that mattered the most in our lives. By the time Saturday came around we were no closer to reaching a decision. Still, I had promised Seth and April that I would go to Panic with them for my birthday and I knew I needed to put on a happy face.

The plan was for April to come over this afternoon to get ready with me. Neither of us had every really been big into makeup or dresses but when it comes to club nights April had always enjoyed going all out. I think it may be the only time she ever just let go. When you are seen as being that really smart girl, I guess it feels nice to have some moments of release. To drink and dance and feel like nothing else matters. It’s the reason I never drink when we go to Panic. I always feel like the responsible parent looking out for April.

From downstairs I could hear the front door open. “Sarah, April’s here!” mom called from downstairs.

I could feel Leah jumping in the back of my mind, “I can’t believe I finally get to go dancing with you!” She had been looking forward to this more than I have. It’s been strange having her as a part of me all week, we were so different. She was obnoxious, hardly ever stopped talking and seemed to be what people call a social butterfly. Whereas, I had always kept more to myself. Even as captain of two sports teams, I really didn’t socialize with many of my teammates often. Typically, I only spent time with April and Seth. I could tell that Leah was going to want a change to that. All week she had been trying to push me to talk to more people at school. I could hardly imagine what she would be like at the club tonight.

As I was thinking about the differences between me and my supposed wolf, I can hear a soft knock on my bedroom door. “Come in!”

April opened the door and walked in with a big smile covering her face, “Your mom said I should just come up. Have you decided what you are going to wear tonight? If not, I brought a few extra dresses that you might like.”

“I was just planning on wearing my blue dress again,” I responded.

A look of disgust ran across April's face, “I should have known, do you even own another dress? Every time we go out you wear that. We really need to take you shopping one day. Here, wear this.”

April thrust a black thigh high dress with a low v cut. Something I would never normally think of wearing, but I had a strong feeling that it would highlight my figure beautifully. I might be athletic but my body did not lack curves.

Oh, I brought these for you too,” April squealed thrusting a pair heals toward me.

“Thanks,” I sighed. I hardly ever wore heels, typically sticking with my cleanest pair of tennis shoes instead.

We spent the first few hour just talking about our first week of school. April was taking college prep classes and already had a mountain of homework she had to get done tomorrow. “Guess you won’t be drinking much tonight,” I teased.

“Much? I won’t be drinking at all,” she responded. “Tonight, is your night, I plan on caring you home tonight, well having Seth carry you home that is.”

I was shocked, April knew I had never had more than one or two sip of alcohol. What made her think I wanted to get drunk just because it was my birthday.

“Alright, before you say no, you’re turning 18. You’re officially an adult and it is something to celebrate. Trust me, sometimes it’s nice to just blow off a little steam and Seth and I will make sure you’re safe. Please just let us help you fully enjoy this night.” April pleaded.

“Ok, ok. Just don’t let me get too messed up and you need to promise that my mom parents won’t find out.” I said sighing in defeat.

“Oh, yay!” Leah squealed in my head. “you’ll be surprised how much we can drink before we have any problems. We’re going to have so much fun tonight!”

We went downstairs to eat a quick dinner before getting ready for the night ahead of us. My mom surprised me with an amazing chocolate cake for my birthday even though it was still actually two days away. After eating a little bit of the cake, we headed back up to finally get ready.

I had to admit the dress April lent me looked great but I was nothing compared to April. She was wearing a thigh length red dress with a plunging neckline. I hugged every curve of her 5’6” body and showed off her well sized breasts. Her makeup did her even more favors highlighting her plump lips with ruby lipstick and adding depth to her blue eyes with winged eyeliner. No one would ever suspect her to be the brainiac she was in this outfit. Even Joycelyn would be jealous if she was at Panic tonight.

“You look amazing!” I told April with a huge smile.

A soft blush crossed her face, “You don’t think it’s too much? I don’t want to show you up or anything,” she said suppressing a giggle. I knew she was just joking; she knew I would never care even if she did show me up. I would be wearing jeans and a t-shirt if she would let me get away with it.

Seth finally arrived dressed in his traditional wardrobe of all black. “Wow April, you look fantastic!” He said with a look of desire in his eyes. “Sarah, is that you? What have you done with my friend; you know the one that is supposed to be in a blue dress with tennis shoes?”

I rolled my eyes at Seth “Ha very funny. Can we just go please?”

I woke up trembling quickly searching my mind for Leah.“Did you see my dream?” I asked not knowing if she would be present for it.“I did,” she replied her echoed fear filling my head. “What are we supposed to do? I don’t know that we are strong enough to face such a strong pack.”I was feeling the same, it would be a lot to take on if we went today. On top of being hunted by a ruthless Alpha, I wouldn’t be able to stay here. I would have to tell my family the truth tonight and I had no idea how to do that.I felt stuck, wanting to know more but fearing what it would take to learn it.“Where would we go Leah? If we go and Eli learns we are alive, my family and friends won’t be safe with us here. I won't drag them into this.”“Maybe we could stay with Kent's pack. They might be able to help us.” Leah said her voice holding an edge of delight at the idea of staying near Kent.“Maybe, I need to talk to him before I make a dec

After training, my level of exhaustion had skyrocketed. I had spent my life in excellent physical shape but I was beginning to realize I wasn’t in top shape for magic. It would be some time before I would be able to fully control it.The only positive of training was that I finally got to see Kent. Knowing that I would be too strong for his other pack members, Kent and I trained together. Having my energy drained from magic gave Kent an edge allowing him to take me down over and over. Normally I would have been upset, but having him overpower me was starting to make me feel something I’d never felt before. Every time he slammed my body to the ground, I felt a small twinge between my legs and my breath catch. I couldn’t keep from thinking of seeing Kent shirtless and imaging him in bed. I was sure it was just the mate bond pushing the images into my head but still it threw me off balance more and more allowing Kent the upper hand. After training was

After a quick meal and thanking Dana, I found myself knocking on my makeshift class room door. Richard reply was immediate.“Come in.”Once again he was perched on the edge of his desk with his eyes focused on a book. He barely looked up as I took my seat and waited. After a few minutes, Richard finally peeled his eyes from the pages and focused them on me.“We shall start with your school work again for the first four hours, one hour for our history and then I have arranged for us to have a private lesson in the training center. This will be our schedule from here on out and Kent has asked that you also join in his training class on Tuesdays and Thursdays after our own.”I nodded in agreement and we dove into my basic class work. Four hours passed by quickly and finally we began on the history of werewolves.“Did you find out anything new?” Richard asked with anticipation.“Not as much as I would like and still

I longed for a peaceful night’s sleep, time to relax and recharge for the crazy weekend. I hoped in vain knowing life had more than just sleep in store for me. It seemed as though I had just drifted to off when I was met with the blinding light that I was beginning to associate with Selene's presence. All I wanted was to return to Kent but again even in my sleep my life wasn’t mine to control.“Hey,” I said yawning as Selene approached me.Her smile was a little reproachful as she replied with a proper “Hello.”“So what’s the goal for tonight?”“You will learn to split your attention to protect yourself and others. Have you practiced at all?”I wasn’t sure why she was asking. Even her tone seemed to suggest that she knew I hadn’t. Still I explained mine and Richard’s intentions to set up time for practice in the training gym the following afternoon. Thinking of Richard, I tri

When we finally got back in Kent’s house, we found his sister making herself at home on the couch.“Hey, you sent Bryce out of town so I'm sleeping over. What’s for dinner?” Alice said with a large smile plastered on her face.“Really Alice, you can’t survive one night alone?” Kent responded in a playful tone.“Well, I could but where’s the fun in that.” She finished by throwing a pillow at an unsuspecting Kent who let out a startled laugh.“I see your mate finally decided to move in.” She continued looking right at me. I could feel my cheeks pale. “Oh relax, I'm the only one that knows. I know my brother better than anyone, I knew the second I saw him looking at you during training.”I was shocked but thinking maybe it would be nice to have someone else to talk to about everything.“Alice, she isn’t here because she’s my mate.”“Doesn&

I was surprised when, instead of leading me through the same hidden door towards the endless hall, Kent turned to the wall in the back of the living room. It took a second but right before he reached for it, I saw the same oval outline that I had before. I remembered Kent had told me there were more secret passageways so I figured this was just leading to another unseen section of his house. It didn’t. This door was much more intense that the first. Before sliding open, a number of locks could be heard turning and once it did, thick steel bars could be seen within the foot wide door. On the other side, was the yard leading to the training center we had gone to a few days before. Thinking back, it seemed like it was weeks ago not merely three days.We walked out into the yard but instead of heading towards the door we had gone to before, we headed to a different door at the far end of the building. The door lead to a room with a single long table surrounded by at least thirty chai

Richard and I spent hours going over my school subjects, mostly just giving him an idea where I was in each subject. Unsurprisingly, he seemed well educated in all areas and was a great help. It was different learning one on one as opposed to in a classroom. I noticed I was able to focus more and was absorbing more of what he was saying. After we covered all subjects, we started in on werewolf history.I had received a brief intro yesterday but I was sure there was still far more for me to learn. We started with Richard asking me about the history lesson Selene had given me. He asked if I knew the names of any of the original werewolves or any of the men that attacked the coven. Sadly, Selene hadn’t mentioned any names but I made a note to ask her next time she invaded my dreams. From there, Richard started with the earliest history he knew. His lesson dated back to King Arthur times, and was about King Arthur himself.“Our records show that there was never a King Arthur bu

I could see the sunlight filling the room even through my closed eyelids. I had no desire to wake up, but daylight was reminding me that the day was waiting. Slowly, I opened my eyes and took in my environment. It was a second before I remembered where I was and finally why. Remembering Kent’s warmth, I looked beside me. The place that had once held his body lay empty and I felt a small sinking in my heart. As much as I tried to deny it, I missed him and wanted him to be here.Grudgingly, I got up from the bed and walked to the dresser Kent had rummaged through to get pjs for me. I opened every drawer finding a lot of jeans and t-shirts that all appeared to be in my size. I found one whole drawer full of undergarments. Most of the underwear was basic boy shorts but a few were lacey little things that brought a small blush to my face. I never bought my self anything like that knowing I had no one to wear it for. Now the idea of wearing these delicate materials in front of Ke

I was a mess on the way back to Kent’s house. I sat in the passenger seat with tears running down my face barely making a noise. It had been the longest day of my life and my mind couldn’t seem to process it all. Since the time I woke up today my whole world had been going crazy and now here I sat, leaving my home and family behind.Kent seemed to sense that I wasn’t in the mood to talk but made a point to wrap his hand around mine giving me at least one point of comfort. The instant I felt his skin touch mine, I knew it was exactly what I needed to keep my world together. I needed to know I wasn’t alone even though I had just left everyone I loved most behind me. The drive seemed to last forever, my mind going over the days events, seeing the look on my parents face when I told them I was leaving. Even thinking of Seth and April, my two best friends, brought my sharp jabs of pain. An eternity later, we finally pulled into Kent’s garage. As much as I wanted to just go to
