90. Maniacy

It seemed like forever before Doctor Matthews finally left her room along with the nurses. Doctor Matthews walked me into her room, closing the door before speaking.

"Is everything ok?" I ask.

"Yes. Actually, that's why I brought you in. We believe Haley responded to your proximity to her."

"What? How?" I ask.

"We're not entirely sure, but from the time you were with her, we were able to detect brain functionality. We think your presence helped to bring her back."

"Bring her back? Does that mean she's awake?" I ask.

"No. I'm sorry, but no, she's not awake. But we think that if you spend more time with her, we might be able to bring her back."

"What do you mean? I'm feeling a bit lost here."

"Studies have shown that when people are placed in a coma, their brain helps to calm the person by using memories to create a sort of reality for them. Many patients have said that they never realized they were in a coma, as it didn't feel as though time had stopped."

"Is that a bad thing?" I ask.
