82. A Step in the Right Direction

While Jace had gone to search for Damian and Haley's belongings, a group of doctors entered the corridor just like before. However, this time pushing a gurney with Haley on it. I felt myself relax seeing her being pushed into one of the nearby rooms. She was alive. That's all I could ask for. I followed the doctors into the room, and waited for them to finish hooking everything up before I began to ask my triad of questions.

"How is she?" I asked, after the nurses and guards had left the room.

"Not good. She was shot multiple times, at various places along her body. It's almost as though someone was using her for target practice. I've never seen someone this bad before."

"But the baby?" I began, but the doctor seemed to understand my train of thought.

"The baby's ok. By a sheer miracle, none of the bullets went close enough to injure the baby. Though we still need to monitor over the next week. Anything could happen. We've never really had a case as severe as hers, so we're unsure as
