After the others had left, the doctor looked at me with a somber look on his face. I knew whatever he was about to tell me, was not going to be good.

"Ms. Cunningham sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She bled out and required multiple transfusions. She was considered clinically dead on arrival, however, we managed to revive her. We managed to stabilize both her and the baby."

"Wait.. what? What baby?" I asked, caught off guard. Were we talking about the same Haley Cunningham? Was there another one that had been shot?

"Our tests showed that Ms. Cunningham is indeed pregnant. It is still quite early into term, so she may not be aware of it herself. However, the next few weeks will remain critical. Since she lost a lot of blood, she is at high risk of a miscarriage. The two of you should be prepared for that scenario. It isn't common for fetuses to survive long after significant trauma. But for now, they are both ok."
