Jessica had fallen asleep not long after we reached our room. We had set up Maverick on the bed, and Jessica had fallen asleep nestled close to him. It was such an adorable view. I had never really thought much about having kids. But in the short time, Maverick has been with us, I was starting to wish for kids of our own. I was loving being a father, or in this case, an uncle. Jessica also seemed to be adapting to the lifestyle quite quickly as well. I knew she would be a fantastic mother. ...Zane POV... Watching my brother with his son was a truly euphoric moment. I felt my heart swell seeing him and Maverick together. I was happy for my brother. Hours seemed to go by before anyone came out to tell us what had happened. The doctor pulled me aside into Damian's room, as they wheeled his bed back into the room. This time Damian was completely unconscious and didn't appear to be waking up anytime soon. His skin has also lost a lot of colour."What happened?" I asked, needing answers."Your brother suffered from an Arterial bleed. It is very common amongst gunshot victims. They can prove to be fatal, as they are hard to detect. While Jace had gone to search for Damian and Haley's belongings, a group of doctors entered the corridor just like before. However, this time pushing a gurney with Haley on it. I felt myself relax seeing her being pushed into one of the nearby rooms. She was alive. That's all I could ask for. I followed the doctors into the room, and waited for them to finish hooking everything up before I began to ask my triad of questions."How is she?" I carefully held my breath, making my movements slow and steady as I reached over to mute the machine. I managed to do the first one flawlessly. I then reached over and muted the second. Once the machines were muted, I removed the IV carefully from my arm. I used the blanket to cover the blood that came out and checked it soon after. My arm had thankfully stopped bleeding, only a small trickle had come out. I shifted my legs off the bed and tried standing up. It wasn't easy at first, but thankfully my legs began to work with me rather quickly. I looked around the room for anything that I could use. Unfortunately, the only thing I could find was a pair of scrub pants in the bathroom. They seemed to be clean and were probably there for me once I had a chance to shower.
