Chapter four

Once Amber got to her apartment she threw her bag on her tiny blue comforter set and went into her cupboard that was close to her small sized mattress.H er apartment was tiny compared to Gregory's, it's been a week since she stopped talking to him or Lisa and she hasn't been the same, she had been going to work and messing things up that her boss, a middle aged man Henry had to give her some time off,but now it looked like she was not only taking some time off but she was going to have to quit because if Alek and his men mistakenly found out she was as good as dead.

Hurrying down one of her biggest bags she placed it on her bed, opening the zipper she took out all her clothes in the cupboard and dropped them inside the box without bothering to arrange them properly, while she was doing that she thought in her mind how she was going to tell sweet Henry she wanted to quit and how she was going to still break all these news to her Mom. Zipping up her box she grabbed a tote bag from the corner as she went into the bathroom to grab all her toiletries and panties she had washed and dried in the bathroom, stuffing them inside her bag she contemplated on carrying more stuffs but she just couldn't fit them inside the small tote and her box was already filled sighing she walked to the comforter to take out her phone from her bag.

Amber knew dialing Henry's number at this time of the day was fruitless, where she worked at the supermarket had less workers and now that she was off duty for the time being Henry was bound to have his hands full, Sending out a quick text message to him,polite and short without going into the details of why she wanted to quit. When she was done with sending out the text message Amber dialed her mother's number, while it rang she opened her fridge to stare at the new grocery's she just got, sighing she took out the bread, cookies and a few grapes, as she was about to drop the phone since her mother didn't pick she heard noise from the background on the phone and her heart stopped beating for a moment as thoughts like 'did he get to her first?' 'Did he take her mother hostage?' 'Was he going to kill her first then her mom next?'.Her thoughts were running wild that she didn't hear her mom shouting her name over the phone.

"Amber honey are you alright?" Her mother, Tanya Baker said for the fourth time, she was about to hang up the call when Amber responded.

"Mom, are you alright?Are you safe?Is everything okay?"

Her voice sounded frantic over the phone and it got Tanya worried.

"Honey why wouldn't I be, besides you went blank on me over the phone so I should be asking if everything is okay with you!"

"I am alright,I just heard some noise in the background and I got scared" Amber said, taking the bread and other things she got out of the fridge to her bed.

"Why would you be scared?Do you have bad guys chasing you?"

Amber's mom has always been sensitive to stuff, she knew when her daughter was troubled and she could sense something was wrong.

"Bad guys pft nah no way, that's not the issue" amber said biting her nails, she had no clue on how to break it to her mom that indeed bad guys were chasing her, she didn't want her to worry and at the same time she needed her to worry just Incase she flees and they come for Tanya instead of her.

"Uhh mom, I'm pregnant." 

"Yay finally, I was beginning to wonder when that Gregory of yours would do something serious, he's a cute one I know so how long are you?, When did you find out? Is he happy?"

If only her mom knew half of it Amber was sure she wouldn't be asking the questions she was asking.

"Well, he's uhh not happy that I can say."

"What why?It's his kid isn't it?" Tanya asked, there was questioning more in her voice than the question.

"Well, uhh I just found out that he is uh what you say uh i-infertile so no it's not his." 

Amber said as the call went silent, it was only after a few minutes before her mother responded. 

"So you're saying you cheated on him and got yourself pregnant, now dear why would you?"

Amber went silent as she was about to tell her the main important part of the story.

"It wasn't like that, see the thing is…"

Amber went on explaining what had happened from the time she came home and caught Gregory cheating to this morning when she went to the hospital and how the doctor told her who the father of the child she was carrying was.

"Baby, you need to run! Leave the country right now, I would check how much is in my bank that I can send to you but honey you need to be out of there before he finds out or comes after you!"

Tanya said, her voice sounding frantic over the phone making Amber more scared out of her mind than she was.

"I was packing already just wanted to let you know what was going on, that's why I called." Amber said as she forced the grocery's inside her tote bag.

"Baby you shouldn't have even thought about it, you should have been fifty thousand miles away before you called." 

"It's okay ma, I am already leaving the house just checking my passport and the rest…okay I alright,I don't know where I am going but when I get there I'd call you."

"Alright honey be safe, if I don't hear from you in the next twenty four hours I'ma kill Alek myself!"

With a soft chuckle Amber dragged her bag down the bed and towards the door.

"That's if he doesn't kill you first."

Amber replied before ending the call, sighing she looked around. She knew she wasn't supposed to still be hanging around but she just didn't know how to process everything that's been happening to her.

Looking back one last time she opened the door only to meet the face she had been dreading to see. Alek Nikolai.

"Going somewhere?"
