NOLAN’S POV

The fire alarms continued blaring through the house as the fire consumed everything in its way. Despite this, the pounding of my heart was the only thing I could hear.

Anastasia was still locked in her room and the fire was growing rapidly at the side of her room. Not thinking twice, I ran towards her room as panic coursed through me.

Her door was closed and there was no sign of movement from the other side. The thought of her still being unconscious while the house burned around us made me panic even more.

"Anastasia!" I yelled as I banged on the door. There was no answer. "Anna, open the damn door!"

Nothing.

I cursed under my breath as I grabbed the handle of her door and twisted. It was locked as expected.

Without hesitating, I stepped back and slammed my shoulder into the door once, twice, and on the third hit, it opened with a sharp crack. I ran inside the room, immediately searching for Anna through the thick smoke filled in the room.

Anastasia was lying motionle

NOLAN’s POV “You’re marrying her, and that’s final!” my father declared, rising from his chair with an air of authority that filled the room. I stood slowly, taking deliberate steps toward the door. “You don’t get to decide how I live my life. I’ll do whatever the hell I want!” I shot back, pausing at the door frame to meet his gaze before walking away.As I headed to my car, my mind raced with the weight of his words. Marry a girl I didn’t even know in two months? Who the hell did he think he was, dictating how screwed up my life should be?On my way out, I caught sight of my mother standing by the doorway. The worry etched across her face was unmistakable, but I managed a faint smile before stepping out into the evening air.Growing up, I had always been the most gentle of my siblings. Ruthless, yet gentle. I’d poured my focus into the family business, knowing my father would one day hand it over to me. The mafia world was twisted and chaotic, but it perfectly fits my type of chao

ANASTASIA’S POV “I can’t believe my dad is setting me up with someone I’ve never met just because he thinks I need a man’s help to run the family business I’ve been preparing for my entire life,” I ranted to my best friend, Athena, pacing back and forth in the room. Athena and I have been friends since we were kids. We both grew up in the same environment filled with rich and snobby people. Athena wasn’t the prim and proper lady you would expect in this kind of environment. That’s why I couldn’t even stay mad when she said, “It might not be as bad as you think. Who knows? He could be handsome and sexy as hell. Win-win.”“Ugh, you’re missing the point, Athena!” I snapped, throwing my hands up. “I don’t need a man’s help to run this business. I’ve been training for this my whole life!” I paused, the memory of earlier that day flashing through my mind. My father had barged into a meeting I was leading with our shareholders and pulled me aside. I thought he wanted to discuss new strat

ANASTASIA’S POV “Let’s get this party started, bitches!” Athena hollered as we strutted into the club. Classic Athena—the life of the party and unapologetically bold. She thrived on attention, and tonight was no exception. Women were her playground, though she dabbled with men whenever the mood struck. We headed straight to our usual spot in the VIP section at Club Hera. It wasn’t my top choice of venues, but the exclusivity made up for it. Plus, the men here were yummy.“Our usual drinks,” I instructed the waiter as he approached. From across the room, I caught sight of the club manager and gave him a small wave. He nodded in acknowledgment. “Gosh the girls here are looking way too sexy, I want them all!” Athena said, her eyes flitting eagerly across the room from woman to woman.I chuckled. “Go easy on yourself, young lady. You can’t have them all.” “Watch me,” she replied with a wink, already scouting her prey. The waiter returned with our drinks, and I could feel myself settlin

NOLAN’S POVWalking into the house I saw my mother and her assistants preparing for dinner tonight. It all felt surreal. The reason why parents were going to such lengths for this arrangement was absurd. I shook my head as I caught a glimpse of my mother, orchestrating everything with her usual precision. She was a perfectionist through and through.“Hello, Mother,” I said, leaning in to plant a kiss on her foreheadShe looked up with her beautiful smile. “My love, I take it you’re in a better mood than yesterday?” she asked with a playful wiggle of her brows, her teasing making me chuckle. It amazed me how she and Father worked as a pair. They are polar opposites. Mother was gentle and fun, while Father was strict and stoic, except when he was around her. Their dynamic was enviable in many ways.“Not exactly. Seeing you prepare for this dinner makes it painfully real that there’s no way out of this for me,” I said, sinking into the chair next to her.Her expression softened as she re

ANASTASIA’S POVDriving into my parents’ estate, I found my father and his assistant outside, waiting on Mother, as usual. Her delays were as predictable as they were frustrating, and Father’s expression was a blend of annoyance and resignation.“Anastasia, finally,” he said, glancing at his watch. “Your mother will be out shortly. Are you ready?”I nodded, smoothing the soft fabric of my dress. “I’m ready,” I said as I leaned against the hood of my sports car. Minutes later, Mother emerged from the house, her assistant trailing behind. She walked past me, her heels clicking on the stone pavement, without so much as a glance in my direction. She slid into the car, and I entered mine. I waited as my parents' car and their security detail led the way, and then we were off to the Russo estate. The ride was silent except for the soft hum from the engine of my car. The weight of the night’s expectations pressed heavily on my shoulders. As much as I’d prepared myself for this moment, the r

NOLAN’S POVThe private elevator leading to my office building hummed softly as it took me to the executive floor. The polished steel doors slid open as we arrived. The pristine expanse of the executive floor came into view. The quiet buzz of the city below was almost entirely muted which gave the office space an air of detachment from the chaos of the world outside.Walking toward my office, I spotted Dimitri leaning against Rebecca’s desk. He was mid-conversation, undoubtedly trying to charm her again. Rebecca’s polite smile failed to mask her discomfort, but Dimitri didn’t seem to care. “Good afternoon, sir,” Rebecca greeted me, her voice a bit too cheerful as she glanced in my direction, she looked glad someone finally saved her from Dimitri. “Afternoon,” I replied, my eyes narrowing slightly as I glanced at Dimitri.“Well, well, look who’s here,” Dimitri said, falling into step with me as I headed for my office. “How’s the future husband-to-be this fine morning? ANASTASIA’S POV"Yes, Athena, I’m in my office. You can come by," I replied, signing off on a stack of documents on my desk. "Just ensure you’re here before 4 PM—I have business to attend to after that.""Oh, I’ll be there in an hour. Don’t miss me too much," Athena said cheerfully on the other end of the line.I chuckled dryly. "You wish."As I set the phone back on the desk, my secretary walked in, balancing yet another stack of files in her arms. I sighed inwardly. Managing a family furniture business as a front for our real operations was both a blessing and a curse. The endless paperwork tied to both businesses? Definitely a curse."They just never end, do they?" I said sarcastically, glancing at Ruth as she placed the files neatly on my desk. She gave me a polite smile, one I imagined she had reserved for all my complaints."You have a meeting at 2 o’clock, and you need to be at the other warehouse by 4," she said, her voice calm and professional as she ticked items off her iPa

NOLAN’S POV I sat in my dining chair, staring blankly at the unopened bottle of whiskey on the table. The light coming in from the city skyline stretched beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows lighting the room dimly. My phone rang, pulling me out of my deep thoughts. The name on the screen was for one of my men, this could either make my day or leave me livid. I swiped to answer, my voice clipped.“What?”“Boss, we’ve got a problem,” the man stammered. His tone already irritating me.“Spit it out,” I snapped ready to get the conversation over with.“There was… a raid at the docks,” he said, hesitating with every word. “They were waiting for us. Three crates are gone—seized before we could get them out.”My jaw tightened. “A raid? How the hell did they know? Someone talk?”“I—I don’t know yet. But we’re working on it,” he stuttered.“Working on it?” I repeated with disgust “I don’t pay you stupid assholes to work on it!” I said my anger rising “I pay you bastards to ensure situations l

NOLAN’S POVThe sounds of wrapping and loading shipments echoed through the warehouse as I stalked across the loading bay, my patience getting thinner by the second. My voice rang out, sharp and unforgiving."Get those crates secured properly, or I'll have your ass fired before you can blink!" I barked, watching as two workers scrambled to fix their mess. "If I see another damn shipment delayed because of incompetence, heads will roll."My workers knew better than to test me when I was in this mood. A mood that I have been stuck on for a week. It’s been a week since the gala. A week since the fight with Anastasia. It has been a week since Anna turned cold towards me.I was already pissed off, and the sound of slow, deliberate footsteps approaching me from behind didn’t help. I didn't have to turn around to know who it was."Someone’s in a bad mood, huh?" Dimitri said in an amused tone as he stepped up beside me with his hands in his pockets.I exhaled sharply, running a hand through m

ANASTASIA’S POVI squinted my eyes as the morning light filtered through the curtains. I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. I tried to get myself to stand up, but my body felt heavy. My mind replayed last night in endless loops—the fight, the accusations, the look in Nolan’s eyes when he threw those words at me.A sharp knock on my door brought me out of my thoughts.I sat up, wondering who that could be. “What?” I responded sharply .The door swung open, and Maria stepped inside hesitantly.“Good morning, ma’am. Breakfast is ready,” she said in a careful voice, as if she already knew the thick tension that hung in the air of this house.“Thank you, Maria. I’ll be down soon.” I said as I rubbed my temples.“Okay ma’am” She said as she nodded and left, closing the door behind her. With a sigh, I threw off the covers and made my way to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and my eyes were slightly puffy from lack of sleep. I pressed my lips in a tight line as I turned on the tap and sp

ANASTASIA’S POVThe moment Nolan’s fist connected with Leo’s face, I felt my entire body tense. Blood sprayed across the pavement, and Leo staggered back against the car, clutching his jaw. But instead of being scared, Leo had a wicked grin on his face. “There it is,” Leo spat, blood trickling from his busted lip. “There’s the real Nolan Russo.”Nolan didn’t hesitate. He grabbed Leo by the collar and landed another brutal punch. The sickening crack of bone meeting bone echoed in the night air.“Nolan, stop!” I yelled as I stepped forward and placed my hands on his arm, trying to pull him away. But he wouldn’t budge. He was too lost in his rage to hear me.Leo coughed, his laugh gurgling in his throat as he wiped his bleeding mouth. “What’s the matter, Russo?” he taunted, his voice hoarse. “Can’t stand the truth?”Nolan didn’t reply. Instead, he drove his fist into Leo’s stomach, making him double over in pain. The violence was spiraling out of control, and if I didn’t intervene now,

NOLAN’S POVI watched as Anastasia strutted out of the ballroom with the hem of her dress trailing behind her. Even in the dim ballroom light, I could see the smile she was trying so hard to suppress. She enjoyed messing with Rafael Costa whom she has left me to deal with. Rafael was a messy man, his business dealings were always dirty and filled with risks that were best avoided. He thrived in chaos, and I tolerated him only out of necessity. "So, Nolan," Rafael started, swirling the whiskey in his glass, "word on the street is that you’ve tightened your shipping routes. That’s bad for business, you know."I took a sip from my own glass, my expression impassive. "It’s bad for your business. Not mine."Rafael chuckled, leaning in as if we were old friends sharing a joke. "Come on, Russo. The world runs on trade, and restrictions only make things difficult. For everyone."I set my glass down with a soft clink. "That’s not my concern. My priority is ensuring that my shipments are secu

  • The Mafia‘s Shared Love   Chapter 28

ANASTASIA’S POVLeo pulled the car up to the entrance of the ballroom and stepped out first. He moved to open Nolan’s door. Nolan stepped out, adjusting his cuffs before coming to the other side to open my door. When he opened the door, he extended his hand toward me to hold. I took a deep breath and placed my hand in his. His grip was firm, warm, and steady as I stepped out of the car.“You ready?” he asked, his voice low, almost intimate.I straightened my shoulders and met his gaze. “Always.”A smirk tugged at his lips before he led us toward the grand entrance, never letting go of my hand. As the heavy doors swung open, we stepped in and the murmur of conversations and the clinking of glasses stopped as the whole room was still. The silence in the room was almost deafening as all eyes turned toward us.Nolan remained unbothered by this as he walked forward with the same composed confidence he carried everywhere. I followed his lead, keeping my chin high.A staff member approached

ANASTASIA’S POVI stood in the dimly lit warehouse, my arms crossed as I observed the workers finishing up their tasks for the evening. My gaze landed on Michael, one of my more efficient employees, as he approached me."Everything is set, boss. The inventory check is complete, and the shipments are ready to go first thing tomorrow," he reported.I nodded in approval. "Good. Make sure the security detail is doubled for the night. I don’t want any surprises. Keep me updated if anything changes.""Will do. Safe travels, ma’am."I glanced at my wristwatch and nearly cursed. I only had an hour left to get back home. If I didn’t leave now, Nolan would never let me hear the end of it."I have to go," I said, already making my way to the car. The moment I slid into the driver’s seat, I pressed the ignition and pulled out onto the main road.Halfway home, my phone rang. I pressed the Bluetooth button on the dashboard, and Nolan’s voice filled the car."You’ve got forty-five minutes, Anastasia

NOLAN’S POVI leaned back in my chair, my fingers drumming against the desk as I glanced at the time. Anastasia should be back soon. Or at least, she should be on her way if she wasn’t caught up in whatever business had taken her to the warehouse again.Deciding to check in, I picked up my phone and dialed her number. She answered after a few rings.“Do you plan on wearing what you wore to the warehouse to the ball?” I asked immediately she picked up. “What ball?” she asked, confusion evident in her voice.I smirked. “The charity ball. You know, the one we agreed to attend together and play the perfect power couple?”The other end of the call was silent for a second before she let out a groan. “Right. That’s tonight, isn’t it?”“Glad to see you keep our commitments at the top of your priority list.”“Oh please Nolan, it’s not my fault some of us take our jobs more seriously than you” she shot back sounding amused.I fake gasped “I can’t even fake being hurt sweetheart, I do take m

ANASTASIA’S POV “Wait… my car. It’s still at the office.” I said as the sudden realization hit me as Nolan drove us home. Nolan barely spared me a glance as he said. “Leo will get it.”I frowned. “I can just go back and—”“I said Leo will get it.” He said as he pulled out his phone and dialed Leo’s number before I could argue further.“Pick the keys to my wife’s car from the receptionist at her office and bring the car to the house,” Nolan said to Leo in a firm tone. Whatever response he got must have been an agreement because he ended the call and slipped his phone back into his pocket.“Bossy much? You didn’t have to show off like that” I said with a huff. He smirked. “It’s efficient.”“Yeah, whatever”“Why don’t you have a driver or a PA?” Nolan asked with his brows furrowed a bit. “You shouldn't be doing these petty tasks yourself”I shrugged “I just like my things done precisely, so I’d rather get things done myself” “Okay, but why?”“It’s efficient,” I said blankly.
