Elena’s POV

I watched as Dominic’s expression changed, anger and rage creeping into his voice.

I knew that he was a dangerous man, and he was going to do everything in his power to find out who was behind the plot.

I felt a shiver run down my spine as I thought about what could have happened.

If Dominic had believed that I had escaped, he would have been distracted, and whoever was behind the plot could have succeeded in their plan to eliminate him.

I looked up at Dominic, “well, I’m glad you didn’t believe it,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Dominic’s expression softened, and he reached out, his hand brushing against mine. “I know you’re not stupid, Elena,” he said. “I know you wouldn't try to escape again, when you know it’s fruitless.”

I felt a surge of emotion at his words, and I looked away, trying to compose myself. It was strange, but Dominic's words had made me feel…seen. Like he actually fucking understood me.

I took a deep breath, attempting to push aside my emotio

Luca’s POV I stormed into the room, my face red with rage, my eyes blazing with fury. “You told me it was a sure thing!” I roared, slamming my fist on the table. “You fucking told me Dominic would be eliminated!”My men bowed before me, knowing better than to disobey me when I was in a rage. “I-I’m sorry, sir,” one of them stammered. “We didn't expect him to…”My anger boiled over, and I cut off the man’s words with a swift swipe of my hand. “Enough!” I roared. “I would rather not hear your excuses. I want to know what we can do to take down Dominic. Now.”The room fell silent, with all eyes fixed on me. My men knew that making me angry and in rage was a dangerous game, and they were reluctant to speak up.I swept the room with my gaze, my eyes lingering on each of my men. “I want to know everything,” I growled. “I would like to know his schedule, his habits, his weaknesses. I would like to know everything that can help us take him down.”One of my men, a tall, lean figure with a sca

Elena’s POVI walked down the hallway, my feet carrying me towards Sophia’s room. I had been thinking about our last conversation, and I wanted to talk to her again. As I approached her room, I heard the sound of her voice, but it was low and secretive. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should interrupt her, or I should just head back to my room and come back when she’s less busy, but then I suddenly heard my name.“Elena….” Sophia said, her voice barely above a whisper. My heart skipped a beat as I froze, my ears perked up to listen. Who was Sophia talking to? And why the fuck was she mentioning my name? What business do I have to do with the so-called person? I leaned in closer, trying to hear more of the conversation, with whosoever she’s talking to. But Sophia’s voice was too quiet, and I couldn’t hear anymore of the conversation or what exactly she was saying to the person on the other end.Just as I was about to give up and knock on the door, Sophia’s voice grew louder.

Elena’s POV I couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in my stomach. Sophia’s behavior had seemed suspicious, and I couldn’t help but wonder what she was hiding or even who she was talking to. I knew that I had to tell Dominic about Sophia’s behavior, but I was afraid of the consequences. If I told him about Sophia’s suspicious actions, and he found out that she was involved in something that could potentially harm me, he might get angry. And if he discovered that she was working against him, he might….. I couldn’t even bear to think about it. The thought of Sophia’s fate was enough to make my heart sink. But what if I didn’t tell him? What if I kept Sophia’s behavior to myself and hoped that everything would work out? Or just believe she was actually talking to her mum. I knew that was a risk I couldn’t take. Dominic was a powerful man, and he had a reputation for being ruthless when it came to those who betrayed him. If I kept something from him, and he fo

Elena’s POVI turned around and headed back to the kitchen, hoping to get the answers I wanted. As I entered the kitchen, Maria looked up from what she was doing, a hint of curiosity in her eyes.“Hey, Elena,” she said. “You came back. What’s up?”“I was wondering if I could ask you something,” I said, trying to sound casual.Maria nodded, but then her expression changed. “I'm sorry, Elena, but can it wait? I’m in the middle of preparing dinner.”I looked around the kitchen and saw that it was indeed a flurry of activity. The aroma of roasting meat and fresh vegetables filled the air, making my stomach growl with hunger.“Oh, sorry,” I said. “I was so absent-minded that I didn’t realize you were this busy. But it's important.”Maria hesitated, her hands moving quickly as she chopped vegetables. “I'll talk to you after dinner, okay? I promise.”I nodded, feeling a bit disappointed. I had been hoping to get some answers right away.“Okay, no problem,” I said. “I’ll come back later.”Mar

Elena’s POVAfter what felt like an eternity, it was finally dinner time. I sat in my room, staring blankly at the wall as I waited for the maid to bring my dinner. It was a familiar routine, one that I had grown familiar with over the months I had been living in this mansion. The maids would bring my meals to my room, and I would eat alone, often lost in my thoughts. The door to my room opened, and one of the maids, a quiet and reserved woman, entered with a tray of food. She set it down on the small table in front of me and smiled softly.“Enjoy your dinner, Elena,” she said, before turning to leave.I nodded my thanks and began to eat, my mind wandering as I chewed my food. I was lost in thought, my concerns about Sophia and her behavior still weighing heavily on my mind.As I finished my meal, I pushed the tray away and stood up, I needed to clear my head and get some fresh air.I walked over to the door and opened it, peeking out into the hallway to make sure the coast was clear

Elena’s POVAs Maria and I finished our conversation, and she left me there speechless from all she had just told me. I quickly and quietly walked back to my room, my mind was stormed up with the information Maria had shared with me. I couldn’t really understand and believe why Sophia had lied to me about talking to her mom. The revelation of the truth had left me feeling both shocked, betrayed and confused.I entered my room and closed the door behind me, I closed my eyes and rested my back against the door as I let the thoughts of all that had happened run through my mind. The room was quiet and still, the only sound being the soft hum of the air conditioning.I opened my eyes and walked over to the bed and sat down, my mind still racing with thoughts of Sophia and her deception. Why the fuck had she lied to me about talking to her mom? And what the hell had she been hiding from me? What bothers me the most is why in the world did she mention my name.As I was lost in thought, I

Elena’s POVI looked at Sophia, my eyes searching for answers. But instead of getting the truth, I saw her brushing off my question with a gentle smile.“Soon you’ll understand why, Elena,” she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. “But for now, let’s just say I’m trying to protect myself and those around me.”I felt a surge of frustration. Why wasn’t she answering my question directly? What was she hiding?“Sophia, I need to know what’s going on,” I pressed on, my voice firm but gentle. “Who the fuck were you talking to? And why did you fucking lie to me about it?”Sophia’s smile faltered, and for a moment, I saw a glimmer of fear in her eyes. But then she composed herself, her expression smoothing out.“I promise you’ll understand soon,” she repeated, her voice calm and soothing as always. “Just trust me, Elena. I’m doing this for your own good.”I studied her face, trying to get something out of her expression. But Sophia’s expression was unreadable, showing nothing in par

Dominic’s POVAs I walked out of Elena’s room, closing the door softly behind me, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was fucking bothering her. She seemed distracted, and her mind preoccupied with thoughts that I couldn’t really figure out. Elena, who was always ready to challenge me, always curious, but now she was so distant, like she had something else bothering her in her mind. I stopped in the hallway, my eyes narrowing as I tried to recall every detail of our conversation. What had triggered this change in her behavior? Was it something I said? Or was it something else entirely? Had Sophia’s visit troubled her in any way? Because I saw her coming out of her room.I thought back to the way she had looked at me, her eyes searching for answers that I couldn’t provide. She was struggling to adjust to life here, and I knew it. But I had hoped that my kindness and concern would have helped to ease her worries, to make her feel more at home in this mansion. But clearly

Dominic POVI did not know what had gotten into James this afternoon, but I wasn't ready to entertain such direct confrontation from him. What had entered him, I do not know—but I would not tolerate it."You are treading a very thin line, James. I suggest that you stop with your approach and do as I told you to—leave my office," I warned, but my words didn't seem to fuel any fear. He just stood there, unfazed."My behavior is disrespectful. I'm sorry boss, I truly am. But this is an issue I have come to realize that I have to address. If not, it's not going to work out for our benefit. It is only going to make our enemies succeed and our plans fall through," James said, and I kept my gaze, radiating my anger hot at him."This woman—she's becoming your weakness, and it has become visibly evident to me. That is why I’ve decided to speak up against it before it is too late," James said."Say what you have in mind, James. Say it," I dared, and he gulped and replied."Elena has taken too m

Selene POVDominic hadn't answered my question. It had been a full five minutes since I asked, yet he hadn't given me an answer or even said a word. He was still thinking, but that made my heart pound even more as the minutes went by. Why was he still thinking?Dominic sighed and looked at me, and I saw he was ready to respond to my question. I steeled myself as best as I could—so if what he wanted to say would hurt me, even a little, I would be able to take it. I hoped so.“If I'm being real, Selene, I don't know,” Dominic replied to me, and my face squeezed up.“What do you not know?” I asked.“What you just asked me about. That is, my feelings for Elena. I can't give you a definite answer,” Dominic said, and I was disappointed.“Why can't you? She's just taking up space. This should be an easy decision to make,” I said. My anger was starting to show in my words, but he didn't care about that.I noticed it. Ever since he barged into my room before, telling me I needed to go on an ou

Selene POVI could see it in her eyes. Just like before, at the arcade incident, when the man had pointed a gun directly at us and was about to pull the trigger. That expression. It was the same one she has on now.She wasn't expecting it, and she was finding it impossible to come to terms with. That was good, because that way, things would be working in my favor."That's the way it is, Elena. You have to come to terms with the real behavior of the man you're staying with. Take it from me," I said, and I could see Elena's face pale. The shock was still very evident on her face."It's sad, really, how Dominic acts towards us," I continued. But Elena isn't looking at me—she's listening, and that's good enough."Dominic does that—I mean, he manipulates women's feelings to suit his desires. To use them for his ulterior motives, like we were his little puppets. And when he's done, when he has succeeded, you’d just join the rest of us in the slut category." I said, and Elena started breathi

Selene POVThe look of horror on her face gave me joy internally. I was so amused, it was very hard keeping the laugh I had inside.Of course, the attack wasn't expected, and yes, we were lucky enough not to have any casualties on our end—but that was because of Dominic's idea. The men that had swung into action earlier had been following us secretly ever since we left the mansion for our outing. Dominic made sure of it, so in any event things went south, we were going to be protected. And good thing he did, because if not, we wouldn’t have been alive right now. But Elena didn't know any of the details. And I wouldn't even dare enlighten her on them. Her fear, panicking, and mental breakdown is what I needed to boost her vigour to leave—the sooner, the better.“Let’s go away from here now,” Elena said in an almost pleading tone, and I nodded once as I helped her to her feet.“You don't want to clean yourself up first? You look really messy,” I suggested.“No. Please, let's just leave.

Dominic POV“How do you know my name?” I asked slowly. My hands are still slightly raised in a ‘calm down’ position as I wait for him to respond. Hopefully, he wouldn't do anything rash. Like jumping off the building.Mark is quiet, but he's still looking at me as if I was a memory that just walked out of his past to see him now.“Boss, what do we do?” James asked me quietly, and I didn't turn to look at him.“Just wait. I have a feeling that he's going to talk on his own,” I said.“Hm,” James replied, taking my word for it.“I recognize you,” Mark said after a minute, clearing the silence.“You just said my name, so I believe that. But how do you know who I am?” I asked, Mark's eyes still locked on me. He was remembering things.“The reason why I recognized you the moment you took off that mask was because I remembered when I worked with Luca, back in the days. All that time, all those years. And yet Luca had a persistent problem he couldn't get rid of. It was you. His biggest rival,

Elena POVIt was the rod of the rack that dug into my side, making the pain multiply in an annoying way.I asked my tongue and pushed myself off the ground, the event already drawing surrounding reactions.I checked my gown, as I contemplated that with the way I felt, it had given me more than a side bruise, if any, but also cut my gown.I turned to look at the left side of my rib and was thankful it wasn't so torn for anyone to notice.I turned with my face flushed in anger, the woman in front of me a complete stranger, but even then, was that how a stranger was supposed to act towards another person?I wanted to speak, to let out my rage, but I remembered where I was.“The Beauty Deluxe Mall is where top-tier people from all over come to shop.” Selene's words popped back into my head. Then again, I was a stranger here; I didn't know who she was and now, I didn't want to either. Instead of causing a scene by questioning her back, or yelling at her because of what she did to me, I cho

Elena POV"I was an idiot," I said, slapping my forehead with my palm disappointed."What did we just do?" I asked myself, pacing haphazardly around the room.It had been more than ten minutes since the kiss happened and I tried locking the memory somewhere inside my head so I could forget that it ever happened. I wasn't doing so well at that, so I decided to take a walk and clear my head. But when I ran into him, the thought of what happened just reappeared to me.But I didn't feel repulsed or irritated by it, not even for one second. I think that I might have even enjoyed the kiss.I felt my heartbeat start increasing again and I did my best to calm myself down from my triggering thoughts. I placed my hand on my chest to breathe better. I gulped and closed my eyes as I saw the moment again like a movie.I felt annoyed and I didn't know when my hand got a mind of its own and I smacked myself across the cheek."Stupid, stupid me!"
