Selena’s POV

I walked down the hallway, lost in thought, my heels clicking on the floor.

But my thoughts were interrupted by a voice behind me.

“Madam Selena.” I heard a familiar voice call out to me.

I turned to see James, one of Dominic's most trusted men, if not the most trustworthy. He was standing right behind me. He was a tall, muscular man with a rugged face and a sharp jawline. He was putting on a black suit and His eyes seemed to bore into mine, as if he could see right through me.

“What's up, James?” I asked, trying to sound casual as I didn’t want him to notice the unease in my expression as I had just been brought back from the land of thoughts by his voice.

James glanced around nervously before leaning in closer. “I didn’t see you around during the celebration, I believe boss must have told you the reason for the celebration.”

“Yes he did James, I stepped out for personal reasons. I’ve seen Dominic, and he has told me the reason for the little celebration,” I responded

Selena’s POV I stormed down the hallway, and I could feel my heart racing, my breath coming in short gasps. I was trying to hold back my emotions, but it was of no use.As I reached my room, I slammed the door shut behind me and leaned against it, trying to catch my breath. I felt like my lungs were going to explode, like my emotions were going to burst out of me at any moment.I took a deep breath and attempted to calm myself down, but it was no use. I felt like I was fucking losing control, like I was running out of breath.I walked over to the window and stared out at the gardens below. I could see the perfectly manicured lawns, the colorful flowers, the sparkling fountains. It was all so beautiful, so peaceful. But I didn't feel that peace. I felt angry, hurt, betrayed. I felt like Dominic had lied to me, like he had deceived me all these years even though he never for once, mentioned such things I still felt that way.I felt he should have known, should have figured it out that

Dominic’s PovI watched in shock as Selena stormed out of my officeher anger and frustration was unbelievable. I was taken aback by her reaction, stunned by the depth of her emotion. What was going on? Why was she so fucking upset?I leaned back in my chair, my mind racing with questions Selena had always been my rock, my loyal right-hand woman. She had never questioned my decisions before, never shown such open disagreement. What the fuck changed? I was so fucking suprised, what’s actually going on with her?I thought back to our conversation, trying to point out what had actually triggered her to react like that. Was it the fact that I had shown Elena to everyone in the house and asked them to treat her with respect? That I had elevated her above the other prisoners? But why the fuck would that even bother Selena? She had never shown any interest in the prisoners before. She had always been focused on the business, on helping me run the organization.Unless…..maybe…… she felt th

Dominic’s povI leaned back in my chair, studying Selena’s expression. She was hiding something, but I couldn't quite figure out what it was.“Selena, come on,” I said, trying to convince her into opening up. “We've known each other for years. I can tell when something’s bothering you.”Selena’s expression didn’t change, but I saw a faint glimpse of emotion in her eyes. “Is it Elena?” I asked, my voice low. “Are you jealous of her?” I continued, trying to bring the words out of her mouth.Selena’s eyes flashed, and for a moment, I thought I saw what seemed to look like anger. But then, her expression smoothed out, and she laughed out loud. “Jealous of her?” Selena repeated, her voice dripping with scorn. “Don’t be ridiculous, Dominic. I’m just worried about you and the organization, like I said earlier.”I raised an eyebrow, Selena was a terrible liar, and I knew she was hiding something. But I also knew that pushing her too hard would only make her pretend even further.“Okay, Sele

Dominic’s PovI walked into Elena’s room, my mind still occupied with the silly and surprising conversation with her father. I had so many questions for her, so many things I wanted to know if she’s willing to open up. And I knew that Elena was the only one who could provide me with the answers I was looking for, I hope so.Elena looked up as I entered, her eyes flashing with a mixture of fear and anger. She was sitting on the bed, her back against the headboard, and she looked like she had been crying for quiet some time.I sat down next to her, my eyes locked on hers. “We need to talk,” I said, with a calm and gentle voice.Elena nodded, her eyes never leaving mine. “About what?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts. “About your father,” I said finally. “is he really your father? Because I don’t know why he would be so willing to sacrifice you for his debt.”Elena’s eyes flashed, and for a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer

Elena PovI lay in bed, as I couldn’t get over the shock and confusion that was going on in my mind. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. Dominic of all people, the merciless and cruel man who had taken me from my father without hesitation, had just shown me kindness and compassion.I thought back to our conversation, trying to process everything he had said. He had promised to protect me, to keep me safe from my father’s cruelty. He had told me that he wasn’t a monster, that he was a man who cared about the people around him.But how could that be? I had seen the way he treated his guards, the way he spoke to them with contempt and disdain. I had seen the way he looked at me, like I was nothing more than a goddamn prisoner who had been abandoned by her family. And yet, when he spoke to me just now, his voice was soft and gentle. His eyes were kind and compassionate and portrayed deep affection. It was like he was a different person Entirely. I didn’t know what to make of i

Dominic’s POVI stepped out of the mansion, the cool night air enveloping me. My mind was still filled with the conversation with Elena, her words echoing in my head like an alarm.I couldn’t quite get over the feeling of pity that I felt towards her. As I walked towards the car, my driver, a well-built, huge muscular man, nodded at me. “Boss, we’ve got quite a situation,” he said, his voice low and urgent.I raised an eyebrow, curiously, as I listened because I was ready for anything and at any time. “What kind of situation?” I growled. The driver hesitated as he looked around before speaking up. “There’s been a rumor, boss. A rumor that your rival is making moves, trying to take over our territory.”My eyes narrowed, This was not a threat I took lightly. My rival had been trying to bring me down for years but failed. I’ve always managed to stay one fucking step ahead. But this time, something felt different. This time, I felt like I was walking into a trap, something didn’t just f

Dominic’s POVI walked out of the bathroom, my eyes scanning the room. And that was when I saw them. Six men, all dressed in black and wearing masks, were scattered around the room. They were all armed, and they looked like they fucking meant business.I didn’t hesitate. I raised my gun and started firing, taking out the men one by one. They didn’t stand a chance. I was a mafia boss, and I knew how to handle myself in a fight. Before they could process what was happening, they were all down. As the last man fell to the ground, I walked over to him and stood over him, my gun still pointed directly at his head. “Who sent you?” I growled, my voice cold and deadly. The man looked up at me, his eyes filled with fear. “P…please,” he stuttered. “Don’t kill me.”I raised an eyebrow, my grip on the gun tightening. “You should have fucking thought of that before you came after me,” I said, my voice dripping with malice. But then, something made me held back my hand. I made my way over to the bar, pouring myself a glass of whiskey as I sat down in my chair.I took a sip of the whiskey, feeling the burn all the way down my throat. It was precisely what I needed to clear my head after the night’s events.Just as I was starting to relax, there was a knock at the door. “Come in,” I called out.The door opened, and James walked in. “Boss, I'm glad you’re back,” he said, his expression serious.I raised an eyebrow, my mind immediately flashing back to Elena, as that was the reason James left the hotel in the first place. “What's wrong?” I asked.James hesitated for a moment before speaking. “It’s Elena, boss.”I frowned, my grip on the glass tightening. “What do you mean?” I asked.James shook his head. “I’m not entirely sure, boss. But I do know that she didn’t try to escape. In fact, she’s been in her room the whole time.”I raised an eyebrow, confusion etched on m

Dominic POVI reached the car outside and I saw James already waiting there for me. “Boss.” He acknowledged my presence before we both entered the car.Once inside, the driver started the car and we were on our way. I also noticed another car with my men following us from behind. “Back up?” I asked.“Yes boss.” James responded and I nodded in approval.James turned to me afterwards and said. “I'm sorry for calling you out like this to tell you the news. I'm aware you’ve not fully recovered, but I didn't have much of a choice since we haven't still been able to identify who the spy is and I wouldn't want him or her listening in on our conversations.” “It's okay, I understand your actions. Now, what else did you want to tell me?” I asked and James kept a stern expression.“It's about the man we are about to see.” James said and I saw him taking out some papers from a suitcase besides his leg.“Here boss.” James hands them over to me and I immediately begin scheming through them.“Th

Dominic POV ‎"Ulterior motives eh?" I repeated and Selene nodded twice. “‎That's what I believe." selene affirmed. “She’s probably pushing your buttons, trying to get on your soft side so when you don't notice, she'll do what she's planning internally. What she harbors in mind." ‎"Hmph," I said thinking, and Selene smiled. She probably thought in her head that if I gave her an inch, she was going to go a mile and keep adding fuel to fire so, Elena wouldn't be in my favour, but then, the conversation that seemed to be going North in her favour went south very fast. ‎"What do you take me for?" I asked and Selene was caught off guard by the question."Uhm, what do you mean by that, Dominic?" She asked, genuinely confused. ‎ ‎"Exactly what I said. What do you take me for?" I repeated, facing her and my expression had become grim and cold and Selene gulped nervously but she still stood her ground thinking of a way she could regain control of the conversation. If

Elena POVThe first kiss was totally unexpected. And even after it, I didn't know what I was going to expect from Dominic or even myself. There were too many emotions involved for me to make the right call on the particular reaction I was going to make. Or Dominic was going to make either. But then he does this—an unexpected after a previous unexpected. This kiss wasn't as soft as the previous one. This time, I could feel there was more intention and desire behind it.This time, it was more raw and passionate and I could even say clumsy. I had closed my eyes, feeling just sizzles in my body while his tongue searched around in my mouth. And in this moment, my body surprised me the most because it wasn't doing anything I thought it was supposed to do. That is, kick against it, stop him from tasting me, and get angry even.We continued to kiss for a minute before he finally dislodged his lips from mine, and I was surprised by how I was trying to catch my breath. Elena POVIn that subtle moment, everything felt paused to me, like a movie. I didn't think a single thought ran through my mind before I rushed over to the side of Dominic's bed, kneeling on the ground as I felt my worry spike within me.“Dominic!” I said, my worry now very evident on my face as my eyes still remained locked on his wounded arm.I gently grabbed his arm and examined it. To me, it seemed that the wound, which was already wrapped before, had reopened again, and that was because there were two shades of blood, with one darker than the other. It must have been from when he stood up abruptly from the bed and told Selene to leave, I think.“What happened to you while you were away? How did you get this wound?” I asked, hungry for answers. But then, seconds passed and I didn't get any answers to my questions.Dominic just sat there silently. He wasn't looking at his wound or at my hand, which I used to apply pressure on the wound so that the bleeding would slow down. To me,

Elena's POV“What's happening here?” I asked, ignoring Selene’s previous question as my eyes darted between Selene and Dominic, laying so still it almost felt like he was a log of wood.“What are you doing to him? Why is he—” I didn’t finish my next question before Selene jumped to her feet and rushed to me, using her hand to cover my mouth so I wouldn’t keep talking.“Shhhh,” she said, turning to Dominic, seeing that he only grunts a bit and then continues to sleep. She exhaled in relief and faced me with her earlier cold expression.“I asked you, why did you come inside?” she said, but her tone was low and stern as well.“Why wouldn’t I? I was very curious. I didn’t understand what you meant by your statement and again, you didn’t come out, so I didn’t know what to do and I couldn’t keep waiting outside,” I replied, also keeping my voice low.“Well, the best thing for you to have done is to go back to your room and wait till Dominic has decided to go to his office or somewhere you c

Elena POV I reached the door and started hearing footsteps—someone was walking around inside—and I exhaled lightly. I know I’ve already made up my mind to see him as fast as possible, but now, I didn’t just want to barge in. That isn't something he would like. So, I composed myself and slowly moved to enter the office. When I entered, he was facing his chair and backing me so I couldn't see his face. “Dominic,” I said, taking a few steps into the room. But the man turned, and I was surprised. It wasn’t Dominic, but one of his men. “Sorry,” I apologized, a bit embarrassed—good thing I didn’t put more emotion into calling his name. “I thought you were him.” “No, ma’am,” the man replied. “The boss isn't here yet, I just came in order to take a document.” “Whose orders?” I asked. “The boss’s orders, ma’am,” the man replied. “Dominic’s? He’s back?” I asked, surprised. “Yes, ma’am. He came in last night,” the man replied. “Last night? How come I didn’t notice?” I asked more of mys

Elena POVI didn’t sleep much last night. In my head, my conflicting thoughts were too much of a bother to allow me to lie down and get up to three hours of rest and so, I ended up sleeping outside for a few minutes before I woke up again. From the way I saw it, it felt as if the night just went by in minutes. All this while, I was thinking but yet, I still wasn't able to find a suitable answer to settle my worries. I sighed dejectedly and got on my feet, deciding it was better to go back to my room. There was no reason for me to keep answering questions with questions. I had to try and get some sleep, even if it was just a little. The soft ticking of the big clock in the hallway was the only sound accompanying my racing thoughts. There was something wrong, something off. And I could feel it.Every corner of this mansion seemed to carry hidden details of secrets I wasn't seeing. It felt like betrayal and a blend of other eerie things were going on from beyond the facade of it all, an

Dominic POVI just spent the last few minutea trying to stabilize myself and calm my nerves. Things were unraveling at a rate I wasn't catching up to in time. And I need to, before things get worse than they already are.“Boss.” Gabe called my attention, and I turned to him with an angry look. Not necessarily because he was disturbing me—I was just mad at everything right now.“I'm sorry, boss, but what do we do with her now?” Gabe asked me, and I shifted my gaze from him to Johanna, who still had a pool of tears streaming down her face. Her eyes were still locked on her brother’s lifeless body, and I sighed dejectedly and walked in front of Johan, covering his eyes before I shifted my gaze to her, shielding the body from her sight as I said,“This wasn’t how things were supposed to go.” I paused, looking at her, but she had shut her eyes, still biting on Gabe’s hand, who seemed to be enduring the pain. I signaled to him to let go, and he took his hand off her mouth. She kept weeping

Dominic POV“Would you like some tea?” I said mockingly, and Johan gulped even harder this time. I could see him starting to shake in his spot, his eyes darting around the room for a way to escape.“We've waited all this time for you,” I continued, enjoying the moment. “Your sister here gave us assurance you'd be back soon, so we took her words. Else we’d have taken her,” I added with a look over to Johanna, and she clenched the blanket she was holding even tighter. It was from fear—the more, the better. It would make things easier for me, easier to get information from Johan when he knew what was truly at stake. He had a look of desperation on his face, and in a sharp move, he turned toward the door. But he didn't take two steps before the man already behind him slammed the door shut. The impact made Johan fidget. He turned toward the stairs, desperate to run up them, but another of my men stood in his path. He slid and fell to the ground, his eyes locking onto the fire alarm. He was
