Chapter 4

Diablo:

“It took the two of you a bit too long for us to actually believe that it was just you getting ready for dinner.” Maria teased, walking towards us.

I could see her anger in her eyes as she looked at Sienna. Sienna, however, chose not to say a word. Instead, she kept her attention on us, on me and the children.

“We sent Juliano to call for you an hour ago. What would have happened if the food became cold?” Maria asked, raising an eyebrow.

“I would have had dinner with my wife. I doubt that there should be an issue.” I sighed, crossing my arms over my chest.

“That is not why we asked you to come and join us. We asked you to come because it has been a long time since we've had a family dinner. Something that you have been ignoring, dearest brother.” She said, taking a step back.

The fact that I was seeing her on her feet was something that I was more than a little grateful for, especially after everything that has happened, especially after what the fucker had done to her.

Her face and the pool of blood that she was laying on played in my head for a few moments and I couldn't help but find myself getting lost in my thoughts before snapping myself out of the daze.

Sienna’s cheeks reddened as she looked at Maria, raising an arm brow and looking at her children. They looked up at us.

“Now I know where Juliano is getting his attitude. The last thing that we need Maria, is for him to have an attitude and for him to be neglecting his duties, even if it means just school. We don't want him to grow up being reckless and he needs to learn to be responsible. That is not going to happen if you teach him otherwise.” Sienna said, and Maria looked at Juliano, who looked away from her.

“The last thing that I would do is teach my nephew how to be reckless towards his studies. I did my best when it came to mind. I'm not going to put my nephew in a situation where he is going to ignore whatever he has to do. However, you know for a fact that I'm not going to force him to do them either, especially with you not being around, Sienna.” I cleared my throat at them, stopping them from arguing. They did not need to argue in front of the children. It was not something that I wanted them to see or even learn.

Something inside me once believed that both Maria and Sienna were going to get along. However, it seems to me that the closer they became, the more they turned into enemies. The two of them just ignored one another and pretended that neither one of them existed.

“How about we have our dinner? The kids need to go get ready for bed. I believe that you know that, Maria.” I said, looking at my sister, whose eyes avoided my own.

Mom, who was sitting at the head of the table, looked at me. Considering that father was not in town, she would normally sit at the head of the table across from me. She did not say a word, but I could tell that she did not like me defending Sienna against Maria. It was off to like that between us. Whenever I defended Sienna, she would be angry and would choose Maria's side. No matter how wrong Maria could be, mother would always choose her side.

“Somethings never change, it seems.” That was her only comment before she looked at me as I sat beside my wife.

Sienna looked down at her plate, avoiding my mother's eyes. My mother went from being her mother-in-law to her enemy and choosing my side. Sienna chose to avoid conflicts with her. It was something that often annoyed my mother. She never had anything to tell her. However, I knew that things were only at the beginning, especially now.

Flashback:

“Her presence within the family is going to cost us a lot, Diablo. It all red. You almost cost your sister's life. And I did stand up with it. I did tolerate it. But now that her mother is dead, her brother is dead, Alonzo is against us. What do you think is going to happen? You know that things are going to turn against us if you don't stop this, if you don't push her away, Diablo, Just send her back to her father. That is what he wants. That is what everyone wants. We are going to end this war.” Mom said, not caring about the fact that not only was my wife pregnant, but that she gave everything up for me.

“One thing that I'm going to set straight and I don't want to hear of this nonsense ever again. Sienna is my wife and she is going to be my wife until my last breath. The last thing that I want is for anyone to think against that, to see her any less than that. No one is going to take her place and if you want me to push her away then please stop it. I am not going to do so. Sienna is going to be in my life until my last breath. That is an oath that I made, and I believe that you know that very well.” I said, defending my wife. Her eyes widened and I could tell that she did not like it.

“Even if your wife's presence could cause us danger. The Diablo that I knew always put his family first.” She said, and I smirked.

“And I believe that you should know and keep in mind that Sienna is my family.” I said, taking a step back. “I don't want to hear of this topic again. Am I clear, mother…?”

End of Flashback.

“And they never will. I did say to get used to it, but it seems to me that it is going to be almost impossible. Isn't it…?”
