Thief

ELENA'S POV

“How did you even manage to pull that off?” Luca asked as soon as we were out the door, his voice a whisper.

I laughed gently and looked up at him. “What exactly?”

He shrugged and tucked his hands into his pockets, a habit of his. Funny,I had known him for just a few days yet I knew that he did that whenever he was thinking deeply about something.

“Let's start with how you know my favorite coffee. Black and strong” He said, looking at me.

I shrugged also. That had been pure luck and I knew that if I made a mistake, everything would go to waste and he would kill me.

“I just guessed” I admitted.

He looked like he was about to laugh. “Guess? That's far too accurate of a guess” he noted, pinching the bridge of his nose.

I folded my arms across my chest. “I know next to nothing about you. It was a wild guess. I guess I just had to take one look at you to guess that. You don't seem like the type of person who would order…sweet coffee heavily laced with milk. The coffee most people order is a definition of their personality” I said ,my tone distant while I peered at his cufflinks. Diamond. Fucking expensive. Snap out of it Elena! You're here because you stole from him, I couldn't afford to make the same mistake.

“Oh then please tell me, what do you think about my personality?” He asked, his voice a sneer.

I looked back up at him, matching his gaze as I tried not to get distracted by the icy blue orbs that seemed to endlessly distract me. “Dark, brooding…want me to go on?” I asked, raising a brow

“You know nothing about me” He said leaning back with a frown on his face as though I had struck a nerve.

“You can take a stroll around the neighborhood. I need to discuss a few things with someone inside” he said and before I could say any other thing, he left me outside.

I sighed and wrapped a hand around myself, my gaze darting around the neighborhood. Expensive and modern looking mansions were spaced out and the place was silent. The rich weren't as noisy. Something I learnt. Pathetic.

His henchmen were no where around but it's not like there was any escape for me so I just sighed and kept walking forward, careful not to go too far away from the family house.

I don't know how long I could keep this up. He didn't seem like a bad person but I wasn't the type to sit about like a housewife, I needed some action in my life and the only reason why I was tolerating this was because I knew he was rich and I would be able to get whatever I wanted. Also because he would have killed me if I said no. What a wonderful way to start a marriage. At least it seemed we were getting along.

“Hey!” I heard a voice beside me and I turned to look at a bald man that was huge and clearly dangerous. Was he talking to me?

He looked like he was trying to confirm my identity before he started stalking forward. Oh Lord no, could it be…had I stolen from him before?

The man's eyes widened and he began to almost run towards me, fury in his eyes.

“You little bitch” He cursed.

Nope. Not dealing with this. I turned to run and had gone a few steps when someone pulled my hair back. Fuck! This was why I liked to tie my hair in a bun.

I whimpered as his harsh hands pulled my hair almost as though he wanted to pull it off my scalp then he dragged me into a corner where he flung me on the ground.

“I've searched for you for days… you think you can steal from me and get away?”, his tone was threatening and I wouldn't be surprised if he was hiding a gun in the pockets of his coat

Fuck, this was bad. I was in Luca's neighbourhood and the last thing I wanted was for Luca to see me like this.

The man fisted my hair and pulled me up painfully. “You thief! You're just a worthless animal and a slut! Where is it?! The diamond chain you stole?!” He barked, his eyes flashing with murder.

I struggled against his grip and noticed to my horror that he was shouting. Anyone could hear him.

“Please…lower…”I groaned and tried to catch my breath. “Let's talk about this. Don Luca is around here. It would do us both no good…” I didn't get to finish my statement when he threw me on the ground.

“Don Luca Ferraro? Ha! I just hit the jackpot then. He hates thieves! I'll tell him about you then we'll kill you together” He spat out.

A copper feeling in my mouth made me wince. Fuck.

“Please…I'll return the goddamn chain just don't tell him!” I said, trying to strike a deal with him

He laughed and pulled out a pocketknife.

“You worthless animal. Slut. That's what you are. A whore and a worthless thief. You should have known better than to steal from me. You shouldn't have don't that, bitch. I don't take stealing easily and so does the Don of this town” He said z waving the knife at me.

I gulped. Great, he knew who Luca was and knew he hated thieves, there was no telling if Luca would kill me. He knew I was a thief but would he be tempted to kill me now. Beside, I never steal on purpose! No one ever believes it's a disease I've been trying to treat for years now.

“Juㅡ” The man was bawling again when a voice sounded behind us.

“What is going on here?”

My heart gave out. That was Luca and he sounded fucking angry.

The man turned back in Glee. “I caught a thief…” he said gladly.

Luca looked at me on the ground and his eyes flashed.

“Get your hands off my wife” Luca sounded dangerous…like he was out for blood.

The man paled at that and seemed to choke on his words.

“She's…shㅡtheif…” the man kept muttering when Luca took a step forward.

“If you say one more lie against my wife…I'll kill you with my bare hands right here” Luca warned.

Talk about the ideal husband.
