She's perfect the way she is

ELENA'S POV

My finger was still wrapped around the gun, the reassuring cold metal biting into my skin from how hard I held it.

He was still staring at me with a smile on his face and I was two seconds away from shooting if he didn't explain what was happening.

I didn't like being kept in the dark or lied to and that was what he was doing right now.

Guevara chuckled and sat back down, a smirk on his face.

“You were right indeed. She is unique” he said looking me over with a normal gaze this time and not the disrespectful gaze he had been using.

“What is going on?” I asked through gritted teeth.

Luca came down the stairs, his huge body moving with a grace that I wouldn't have associated with him.

“Put the gun down”, he ordered but I was mad and my body shook with anger.

“No,” I said stubbornly.

He walked up to me with a dead look in his eyes and grabbed the gun by the barrel not bothered if I pulled the trigger and he gently yanked it out of my hands.

I let go of the gun immediately and rolled my eyes.

“You're glad I didn't shoot” I muttered.

He chuckled, turned the gun to Guevara, and pulled the trigger.

I almost screamed but I stopped realizing the gun was empty and he was just bluffing.

“It's empty. You don't think I'd leave a loaded gun with you, did you?” He asked, dropping the gun back on the table.

Of course, he wouldn't.

“So what's the meaning of what just happened?” I asked.

He looked at Guevara who had crossed his legs and had an aloof air around him now like he didn't care about what we were saying.

“That was your first test. A simple test to see how you'd behave in the face of danger. Like I said Guevara is my supplier and now that you're in the picture, you'll be doing business with him. This was a simple test to make sure you can handle yourself among wolves” he said with a grin.

Guevara raised a brow and smirked. “She's perfect. Just like you. Just needs a little sharpening” he said looking at me again.

Luca leaned back in his chair. “No, she's perfect the way she is. You may leave”

Guevara stood up, bowed, and walked out

“Did you plan this?” I asked as soon as he was out of sight.

“Don't take it the wrong way. It was an idea that just came to mind, okay? Don't think much about it. Guevera was just an added bonus. I don't want you to start thinking that I'll throw you out to fend for yourself, that's my job as your husband, I just want to make sure that in a situation where I'm unavailable, you can take the lead and protect yourself and I was right. You can” he said with a soft smile.

I rolled my eyes. “After spending so much time on the streets, I learned these things myself”, I retorted.

He stood up and looked me over. “You look good” he suddenly said, his eyes drinking me in

“You knew my size?” I asked, suddenly feeling better that he said it fit well.

“I know the basic things about you. Such random information comes easy to me”, he whispered as he walked closer to my sitting figure and looked down at me.

“So basically you know everything about me,” I asked looking up at him.

He smiled and placed a finger under my chin, his blue eyes searching mine for something. “I know random stuff about you. Not the real you. That's what I want to figure out today. Who are you under the public image of the thief?” He whispered and my heart stilled.

That was the reason he wanted to spend time with me. He was trying to understand me and even though I knew it was so that he didn't screw up our image as a couple, it still made me feel special.

“Alright then so are we leaving or not?” I asked.

He pulled back and walked to the counter in the kitchen, gripping the granite hard with shut eyes.

“Yes. Just give me a moment. You can go outside to the car, I have informed the chauffeur already and the guards should already be in their car which will accompany us. Go” he said.

He was avoiding my gaze, his eyes fixed on the counter and the basket of fruits on it.

I wanted to talk to ask him why he was pushing me away after just saying that he wanted me to tell him about it but I felt tongue-tied so I did as he said and walked out of the house, the guards greeting me by the door and leading me to the waiting car.

After what felt like an eternity but was just 2 minutes, Luca came out, a passive look on his face as he said some things to his guards who nodded and entered their own car, ready to trail after us.

Luca checked something on his phone while I watched him through the tinted glass while waiting for him to enter the vehicle.

After a while, he opened the car door and looked at me sheepishly, his demeanor now relaxed. “Sorry bout that. I was just checking something” He muttered.

The driver got in and the car started just as the car behind us started their engine too, ready to pull out.

The car started moving but my gaze remained on Luca who seemed distant.

“Are you alright?”, I whispered.

He looked at me with surprise and opened his mouth to say something but stopped and instead smiled slightly.

“Don't worry about me. Never worry about me. I'm fine”.

I leaned back in my seat and sighed. He was distant. If he wanted to know stuff about me, that was fine but I was also going to find out stuff about him.

I wanted to know him just as much as he wanted to know me.
