Chapter 15: Rule no 1

ELENA'S POV

As we sat in the car on the way back to the mansion, I knew for sure that there was some kind of switch controlling this man's emotions.

Because how the fuck would I explain him being casual and mischievous one second in the cafe then keeping a straight face while pretending I didn't even exist while we were in the car.

It was like a freaking switch had been flipped.

I crossed my arms, huffing silently as I stared at him through the rear mirror, an unreadable expression was on his face as he placed a hand under his chin and stared at his phone while going through some stuff.

I wanted to tear my gaze away before he caught me looking, I really did want to but I couldn't. I couldn't help but watch how his black silky hair fell in strands obscuring his blue eyes…those beautiful blue eyes that seemed the pierce into my soul anytime he looked at me. But it didn't feel scary. It felt just right.

And that was why I couldn't tear my gaze away. He had told me not to fear him even though he had given me a mild reason to but yet I couldn't help but shake off the feeling that I wouldn't mind whatever he did. I'd still support him.

A part of me knew that this wasn't just the most dangerous mafia group for nothing, they were ruthless and mindless monsters who killed for fun and a part of me hoped that I would never have to see that side of Luca. I feared that I would never look at him the same way again if that happened.

He was typing something on his phone, his brow furrowed then his hand stilled.

“You've been staring for 3 minutes,” he said simply in a flat tone that was neither pleased nor annoyed

I cleared my throat and fished out my phone from my small purse.

“Sorry bout that. I zoned out”, I muttered, chewing on my nails.

He hummed and refused to reply for a good ten seconds before he finally spoke up. “My number… I'm sure you know what to do, right?” He asked, looking at me for the first time since we entered the car.

I nodded. Yes, I knew what he meant. It meant that I should never give his number out.

“No matter what happens. Don't. If you can't do it, I'd advise that you get rid of it. It's not just a number, it's worth the entire family” he informed me.

I nodded again while rolling my eyes inwardly.

“I know”, I muttered under my breath.

He looked back down at his phone and the car kept moving, the driver who seemed to not give two fucks about what we were saying.

As I looked up however, I noticed the driver discreetly pressing the red button to stop his recording. He was recording Luca's and I conversation.

I frowned. What was he doing?

Luca's hand stilled on the phone again and his head tilted before he looked up at the driver.

“Pull over” he ordered, his tone still flat.

The driver raised a brow, his hand on the steering trembling.

“Yes sir” he complied quickly pulling over to the side of the deserted road.

I looked at Luca. What in the hell was happening?

Our escorts stopped behind us also and all 10 of the fully armed guards stepped down and came over to our vehicle to make sure that everything was fine. I didn't see their guns or weapons but I knew they were fully armed as I could see the outline of a pistol in the inner jacket of one of them.

I was still confused as to what in the nine hells was going on.

Oh my god…was he planning to kill me here?

Apprehensive, I looked over at Luca who showed no form of emotion as he opened the car door and stepped down without sparing me a glance.

“Luca…?” I whispered but he didn't answer and instead pulled out his gun.

I swear, I almost died on the spot, he wasn't looking at me but at the driver instead who looked like he was about to piss himself.

“Get out,” Luca said coldly, waving the Glock 34 at the driver.

The man quickly put up his hands and came down from the car, his body shaking.

Scared, I came down from the car, my hands knitting together nervously.

“Yes, Don Luca” the driver stuttered as he looked at the ground before falling to his knees.

I quickly moved over to Luca's side scared as hell. Was it stupid for me to go over to the man who looked like he was born out of the fiery pits of hell and was ready to kill everyone? Yes but did I move away? No.

“Luca, what's happening?” My voice was a slight whisper as I looked at Luca whose gaze was still focused on the driver.

“You were recording our conversation” Luca simply said.

The man immediately collapsed to the ground, his body wracking with sobs.

“I'm sorry, I'm sorry Don Luca. I swear I didn't mean to! I needed the money!”, the man cried out, his sobs making my heart ache.

Luca looked emotionless and it scared me. Did he really want to kill the man?

“Before I made you my driver, you were told the rules. Never try to record the Don's conversation for any reason” Luca said, looking at the barrel of the gun like it was the most fascinating thing he had seen.

“I promise…”, the man kept talking gibberish while the guards looked on with a look of indifference.

“Please…spare me…I have a family…” the man pleaded.

My heart was literally pounding in my chest as I tugged Luca's sleeve.

“Luca…please…” I muttered, my eyes wide with horror.

“I hate snitches, don't get swayed for money, Henry, you should have thought of your family before doing it,” Luca said, actively ignoring me as he raised the gun to the man's head and pulled the trigger.

As the trigger went off, I screamed watching the man's blood splatter to the ground before he fell limp.

Luca looked at me with dead eyes and tucked his gun Into his pocket.

“Rule no. 1, Elena. Curiosity gets you killed in this world”
