Sierra’s POV

My alarm rang at 4am later that morning. When I dashed towards our bedroom, I met Jordan standing at the door.

Did the man ever sleep?

“What do we have here?” Jordan asked, with a tired smile on his face.

“You weren’t supposed to see this! At least, not yet.” I retorted.

Jordan waited until I got to where he was standing. “Now, how do I get in?” He asked, playfully.

“You aren’t supposed to,” I laughed. “Happy birthday, baby.” Jordan pulled me by my shoulders and kissed my hair.

“Thank you, angel.” He cleared his throat, “But where are they supposed to go?” He asked with a small laugh.

“We could just move them to another room. I just wanted to do something really special for you. So, for the next couple of months, your exclusive shopping mall is in this very house!” I announced excitedly.

“That’s beautiful. I actually forget to shop for myself. You’re a lifesaver.”

“Of courseee, you’re always away, trying to save the world and putting the bad guys in their place. Someon

Jordan’s POVSierra was going to be the death of me. I wondered how she was able to do so much in so little time. The first was our bedroom. I was actually surprised but I kept my cool and pretended like the stunt Sierra pulled was very normal. There were male items everywhere, from clothes to shoes to colognes to wristwatches. And they weren’t just any kind of products, they were all from designer brands. Some, from my frequently patronized brands, which were quite expensive, if I might add.I gave the woman an unrestricted card to use for herself, and she went and doused it all on me. I made a mental note to send more money to the account. After dressing me up that morning, Sierra forced me to eat some cake. Apparently, she had talked the chef into baking me a cake with forty-five layers. How in god’s name were we going to preserve that? When I asked her about it at breakfast, she said to me, “I was hoping to throw a little party for you, but I know you wouldn’t want that.”“And y

Sierra’s POVAmelia was in on the plan. Jordan had no idea that she was at the auction. She texted me shortly after we arrived to tell me she was backstage, so I got up and went to look for her. However, when I told Jordan I was going to the ladies room, he had Andrew escort me. That meant I had to find a way to lose Andrew first. While he followed closely behind, my brain got to work. Everybody knew auctions were events that didn’t take too long. And I didn’t have all the time in the world. When I got into the ladies room, I waited for a few minutes. Then, a lady who had her face covered in a hijab came inside. I asked her if she saw a bulky guy standing by the door of the bathroom and she said yes.“Please, I am being followed by that guy. My life is in danger and I really need your help.” I lied. “ How can I help?” the woman asked.Since we were the same height and also had a similar body build, I asked if we could switch outfits. She hesitated a bit but eventually agreed. So

Sierra’s POV I didn’t want to leave. “The deal was to have you for twenty-four hours,” Jordan reminded me the night we were supposed to leave. I grumpily sat on the box I packed, refusing to get up. Venice was so beautiful, especially with a man like Jordan holding you and taking you around. There were no guards around, it was just us, and I loved every bit of it. Asking Jordan if we could continue leaving our lives like that would be a stretch, so I simply basked in the moment while I had it. However, when I realized it was all coming to an end, I began to get emotional. “Didn’t you love it, Jordan? It felt surreal.” I said to Jordan. “Yes, baby. We can always come again.” “Just us?” “Just us.” If there was one thing I would be taking out of Venice, it was that my husband was a perfect gentleman! Underneath the cold exterior with which he handles business, lives a sweet man. I watched Jordan help an older lady get her bag, pull out a young child’s seat, and als

Maybe you did try, but not hard enough.” I chuckled.Andrew chuckled too. If I knew Charlotte’s pictures were all it would take this guy to be more human around me, I would have sent them a long time ago.“Can I be honest?” Andrew asked.“Sure, go ahead.”“At first, I blamed you for her death. I blamed you because if she didn’t get mixed up with you in the first place, Dominic would have had no reason to kill her the way he did.”“I’m sorry,” I replied, knowing that Andrew was right.“But I had no right to do that. I knew you loved her like a sister. I was envious of the relationship you both had.”“Did you ever tell her?”“That I liked her?” I nodded.“I didn’t, but she knew. Somehow, you ladies always figure that out. She knew I did like her, but we never really got the chance to talk about it. The one time we did, I told her t

Sierra’s POVLuca’s story was pretty sad. However, I still believed he was struggling with other things he wasn’t sharing. I couldn’t imagine how a boy at the age of seventeen could look so unapproachable and guarded. His defenses were high up there.Brandon said Luca had joined college in his sophomore year. He was a good kid. He took his grades seriously and was also a part of the basketball team. When he got to his finals though, he became a different person. Nobody knew what had happened. Brandon was suspicious it had something to do with his mother. The school had lost all forms of communication with her. When they asked Luca about it, he simply told them that she left. Nothing more was said about her. I walked out of Brandon’s office to meet Luca, still waiting by the door, with his ears plucked in. “I’m sorry for keeping you waiting,” I apologized. He didn’t say a word, he simply started walking ahead of me. Jordan’s POVNews had gotten to me that Carlos Moretti was beginning to speak to former allies of his brother Lorenzo. In addition to that, he was also causing a lot of trouble. As a means to call me out, bodies had been turning up in alleys and backstreets. I had done my findings and Carlos was responsible. He was pissed that I wasn’t giving him any attention. I didn’t know what he expected of me, but I wasn’t going prance around in uneasiness simply because some guy thought the mafiasco was family business. When the time came, he would have me to contend with.Luckily for him, the bodies that had been turning up were those of drug addicts and street criminals. Carlos knew the game he was playing. He wanted to cause trouble without causing trouble. Meanwhile, Gabriel Draven had been making his own moves as well. Still smarting from what happened at the auction, he had declared me his rival, a challenge I was willing to go unanswered as long as he never stood before me again. If he

I had expected things to be a bit awkward after Jordan's visit the previous day, but to my surprise, Brandon greeted me with his usual charm."Good morning, Sierra! How are you today?" he asked, smiling brightly at me."I'm good, thanks." I replied, trying to sound casual. "Just getting some coffee before our first class."Brandon nodded, falling into step beside me. "I'll join you. I could use a caffeine boost myself."As we walked to the break room, Brandon chatted with me about everything from the weather to our shared love of literature. It was as if Jordan's warning had never happened. However, when we got to the coffee machine, Brandon's tone shifted, becoming more flirtatious. "You know, Sierra, I've been thinking. We should grab lunch together sometime this week. Just the two of us."Who the hell was this guy? Did he ever learn? "I don't think that's a good idea, Brandon.” I replied, tr

That was the third time Veronica didn’t send me greetings on my birthday, so rather than letting things go as usual, I decided to break my promise to her.” “You did some investigations?” “Yes,” Jordan took a deep breath before speaking. "It turned out that Veronica went into hiding a few years after she left the mafia life. She was living in a small town, trying to keep a low profile." "That makes sense," I said. "You said she never really wanted to have anything to do with this life." Jordan nodded. "Yes, well, she didn’t. However, she met someone. She met a man who she fell deeply in love with." "Who was he?" I asked, unable to hide my growing interest. "His name was Alessandro. I had met him a few times. What Veronica didn't know was that Alessandro was very committed to the mafia. Jordan’s POVThe war didn’t end overnight. It took us months of intentional planning, restructuring and rebuilding trust.Carlos and Lorenzo Moretti not only maintained control of their syndicate but did so under stricter rules. Enough with the senseless bloodshed.” No more betrayals.Alessandro emerged as the power broker but moved to settle relations among erstwhile opponents. What about Gabriel Dravamen? He continued to be a wild card but honoured the pact. It meant Sierra would never have to see him again. He slipped away into the shadows, leaving us in peace.***I should have known that peace was an illusion. The second we made a truce, I felt the claws of the past itch at my back, lying in wait for an opportunity. The life we had struggled to break free from wasn’t going to be free easily. When our fragile new beginning unravelled, it was the enemy without who tore it apart but it was one of our own. Night had descended, cloaking the safehouse in lulling tranquillity. Sierra

Jordan’s POVIt was a lengthy, ruthless and tumultuous struggle. Blood spotted the pavement, and the air was still tinged with gunpowder and sweat. Gabriel Dravamen’s cultists had shaken the very foundation of the city’s underworld when they turned against the men of Carlos Moretti. But now, looking at the rubble, I knew this battle would not last forever. I glanced at Sierra, her face smeared with dirt, her hair a wild tangle from their adventure, but the spark in her eyes was still bright with fierce determination. She had fought for me, she had risked everything, and I’d be damned if I was going to let her spend the rest of her life in constant fear. We had to put an end to this insane battle by hook or crook regardless of how weak I felt.“Jordan…Do you think this battle is worth it,” she asked but I looked at her and suddenly lost my words.“What do you suggest we do?” I asked her after taking time to think on her question for a few minutes.“End it. • The Mafia's Kingpin's Arranged Bride   173. To Hell With Fate

Jordan’s POVThere was a palpable tension in the night air, a heavy mix of unvoiced threats. My fingers flexed at my sides, and every muscle in my body stood up, ready to pounce. The instant the door opened on the van I sensed it. Before us, lined up like a barricade, the fleet of cars stood, their headlights casting harsh beams into the dark, illuminating the figures waiting beyond. Dressed in shades of dark, masked under darkness, armed men stood at attention. Their postures screamed discipline, precision, and most importantly, prepared to unleash hell. From the outside looking in, it was evident these were not just hired guns. They were men trained for combat, their loyalty inextinguishable, and their mission palpable. Carlos Moretti moved like a man in command, rolling the cuffs of his pricey suit as though he wasn’t in the heart of a goddamn battlefield. He flourished on chaos; it had shaped him, and if nothing else, I knew he never walked into a fight he didn’t think he coul

Sierra’s POVSilence enveloped us for a heartbeat, the only noise the drone of the engine and the uneven gasps of our party. Inside the van, the air was thick with anticipation and something more, something dark. Then, as my eyes adjusted to the low-light interior, I froze in my throat. In the corner sat Carlos Moretti, wearing a sleek black suit, and dark glasses on the bridge of his nose. A cigar hung limply from one side of his mouth, a thin wisp of smoke curling up to the ceiling.“You all didn’t know I was here. Well, I accept that compliment you gave earlier,” he said, “Oh, you are welcome,” he barely echoed and pumped out more smoke into the air with reckless abandon.Still talking to himself and all, he chuckled, a slow and gruff laugh that sent a shiver down my spine. It went on too long, stretching that moment into something just disgusting, something grotesque and even annoying, that made my stomach flip.I felt like reaching out to him and smacking him in the face to keep

Jordan was tumbling down with me as a bullet whined past us and struck the concrete wall behind us.My pulse throbbed so violently that I feared it might rupture my ribs. Dominic was already shooting back, his responses quick and exact. Ethan drew his weapon too, well braced as he shot at the men surrounding us. “Go! Go! Go!” he shouted to his men and directed them with one hand in the air as he plunged them ahead whilst the other hand rested solidly on his gun. He looked in our direction as well and nodded his head for us to move to where the huge crates were stacked.I held Jordan and moved towards the crate whilst Ethan watched our fours ensuring we were behind the crates before going head into the battle that had been staged. I wondered where all the police vans had gone because such chaos and ceaseless firing should have bought them out of their cocoons except they had been bought over.Hiding behin

Sierra’s POVI wrapped my arms around Jordan when balance abandoned him and he walked with me like an old man slowly finding his step. He had just been through a serious coma, and I knew he needed time to get his strength back. His body had not fully recovered, but his spirit, his fighting spirit, was as full as a young man's spirit should be. Every step we took together led us onto shaky ground, but I was unwilling to drop the thread. I wasn’t about to let anything or anyone pull him away from me again. As I led him down the sterile corridor, I kept looking back at him, asking him over and over if he was in pain. "How do you feel? Is anything bothering you? Does anywhere hurt?”We had to put up a brave front, of course, but Jordan shot me a cheeky smile with twinkling eyes that had mischief reflected in them, even with that happening.“You’re babying me too much, Sierra. I'm fine," he pouted back with love in his eyes.I couldn’t help but chuckle, though every fibre of my being wa

But he also knew that in a game like this, someone was always behind the curtain, calling the shots. But this new player, this enigma, was the wild card he hadn’t counted on. He looked over at the door, his brain already working out the next few things. The stakes had never been higher. The fate of his family, even the power dynamic in Crystal Bay, it all was at stake and if this new player had been behind it all, the rules of the game would have changed and Carlos needed to adapt fast, or else lose it all.He walked around the room, the quietness in the area surrounding him was murky. The unknown player stuck in his mind and gnawed at him. Who were they? Why had they decided to make their move now? Because he knew all too well that everything was about power in this world, but the ones pulling the strings, those behind the scenes could make or destroy it all.His men had been

Carlos picked up the phone off the desk and dialled a number he recalled by heart with a soft sigh. It was one of his most trusted men, a loyal veteran beyond question. Moments later, there was a click on the phone, and a voice came through to the other end.“Did you knock, boss,” the voices said, low and steady.
