Scarlett's POV

The room was quiet, except for the faint sound of breathing and the occasional shift of fabric against the sheets.

Liam’s arm was wrapped tightly around me, his hold unshakable, his body pressed against mine as if even in sleep, he refused to let go.

I lay there, blinking at the ceiling, my body sore, my mind a tangled mess.

I was used to waking up alone. For years, I had gotten used to the emptiness beside me, the cold sheets, the feeling that I was always alone in this world.

But Liam was… different. Even in sleep, he held onto me like I was something that belonged to him.

Taking a deep breath, I carefully tried to pry his fingers away, hoping to slip out from under his grip.

But the second I moved, his hold tightened, his arm locking around my waist like iron shackles.

I froze. Was he awake?

I tilted my head slightly, studying his face, but his breathing was deep, steady—he was still asleep.

Even now, even without thinking, he was possessive.

Scarlett's POVLetting my phone ring, I stared at Rosa’s name flashing on the screen. The sound was loud, grating, filling the quiet room like an unwanted presence.I really didn’t want to hear her voice. I didn’t want to hear her lies, her screaming, her endless blame. With a sharp breath, I ended the call. Not even two seconds passed before my screen lit up again.Rosa Calling.I inhaled sharply through my nose as I declined it.Three seconds later.Rosa Calling.I clenched my jaw, pressing decline with more force than necessary.Another ring. And another. And another.I threw my phone onto the couch, watching as it vibrated against the cushions, buzzing like an angry wasp. Then the texts started.“Pick up the damn phone, Scarlett.”“I swear, if you don’t answer me…”“You think you can just block me out? Are you serious?”I took a deep breath, forcing myself to ignore her. But she wasn’t done.“You are such a pathetic little brat. I always knew you were jealous of me, but this? Wow.

Scarlett’s POVI sat frozen, my breath stuck in my throat. My fingers gripped the phone so tightly that my knuckles turned white. I must have misheard him. There was no way he meant that.“Dad,” I whispered, my voice barely coming out. “Can you… can you repeat what you just said?”His answer was even harsher this time, cutting straight through me like a blade.“I said if your sister doesn’t get her job back, then we are no longer father and daughter.”A loud clack followed as he hung up.The sound echoed in my ears. The silence that followed felt suffocating, pressing down on me like a weight I couldn’t lift.I stared at the screen, the call ended, his name still there. It was all too real. I wasn’t dreaming.A sharp, stinging pain settled in my chest, spreading through my body like fire.I opened my mouth, but no words came out. My hands trembled. My heart pounded so hard it hurt. And then, suddenly, my legs gave out. I fell to the floor, my body hitting the cold tiles, but I barely

Scarlett's POV Liam took a step back, running a hand through his hair. He looked amused, but I knew better. That wasn’t amusement. That was pure, raw anger.“What did your dad do?” His voice was eerily calm.I didn’t answer. My hands fisted in my lap, my throat closing up. I couldn’t say it. Saying it would make it more real.Liam tilted his head, eyes locked on mine. "Scarlett."I swallowed."I asked you a question," he said, his voice edged with something dangerous. "What. Did. He. Do?"I still didn’t answer. His jaw tightened. Then, without warning, he grabbed the nearest chair and slammed it against the wall. The loud crash made me jump."Say it."My breath caught in my throat. My heart pounded so hard it hurt. I squeezed my eyes shut for a second, trying to keep myself from shaking.I had no choice. He wasn’t going to let this go."My dad… he threatened to disown me."There was silence. A deep, thick silence that felt like a noose tightening around my neck.Liam stared at me, hi

Scarlett's POV I had something to say, but Liam didn’t give me the chance. He stopped me with a look—cold, hard, and full of disappointment.“Scarlett, honestly, jokes aside, I’m very disappointed in you. Your parents have been so cruel to you, yet you still can’t bear to leave them. And here I am, treating you so well, but all you seem to want is to get away from me.”Liam’s words hit me like a punch to the chest. But before I could even form a response, he turned on his heel and stormed out.The sound of the door slamming shut echoed through the room, vibrating through my bones. The air suddenly felt too thick, too heavy.I just stood there, frozen, my hands clenched into fists at my sides. My heartbeat thundered in my ears as his words repeated over and over again in my head.My chest felt tight, my breathing shallow. What he said wasn’t wrong. My parents had never been kind to me. They had always put their needs above mine, always made me feel like I wasn’t enough. And yet, I sti

Scarlett‘s POV“Yes, yes,” I answered quickly, shaking the thoughts away. But my heart wasn’t listening. It pounded against my ribs like it wanted out.I was stunned. No, stunned wasn’t even the word. I was shaken.Michael’s voice turned serious, low. “Actually, earlier today, I saw Rosa. I wasn’t trying to spy on her or anything, it just happened. She was talking to someone.” He paused. “And she didn’t look happy.”I felt a lump form in my throat. "Who was she talking to?”He let out a slow breath. “I think it was Ryan.”My stomach sank. It felt like something had exploded deep in the ocean, breaking the surface, sending violent waves everywhere. I had spent so much time forcing myself to stay calm, to pretend everything was fine. But this? This was something else.Something was wrong. Something was very wrong.Michael hesitated for a moment before asking, “Is this Ryan very important to you?”The question caught me off guard. I opened my mouth, searching for an answer, but I had no

The city lights were bright, but it did nothing to calm the storm raging inside me.I took a deep breath. “Michael, if you really do want to help me, then…”“I already said I would, didn’t I?”I hesitated. Because why? Why would he help me? Why would he choose to get involved in something that had nothing to do with him? After my call with Michael finally ended, I couldn’t sleep. I just lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, my thoughts spinning in endless circles.Rosa and Ryan… how could they be connected? What really happened that night? The questions chased each other in my mind, refusing to settle.Something was being kept from me. A secret so big, so dangerous, that the truth felt like it was just there, right in front of me, waiting to be exposed. But every time I reached for it, it slipped through my fingers.I turned onto my side, pressing my face against the pillow, but it didn’t help. Scarlett's POV I knew Liam had the best hacker team in the country. If there was anyone who could get me the information I needed, it was him. But there was one problem.Liam had been ignoring me, he was still mad at me because of my family. And when Liam was angry, he wasn’t the type to just let it go.I needed to find a way to make him happy, or at least distract him long enough to get what I wanted. So, I did something I had never done before. I took the initiative to call him. And I cooked. It wasn’t just any dinner, it was a feast. The kind that took hours to prepare, the kind that smelled so good it could make even the most hardened man stop in his tracks. When Liam finally returned to the apartment, I was standing in the kitchen, placing the last dish on the table. Scarlett's POV As soon as Liam was out of the house, I grabbed my phone and opened the monitoring app. My hands were shaking as I typed in the password. I didn’t know what I was looking for, but I knew I had to check. Rosa’s phone was active, and I needed to see what she was up to.My pulse quickened as I watched her screen light up, her fingers scrolling through her Instagram messages. She moved between conversations, checking private messages, replying with quick, effortless texts. There was nothing unusual. Then she clicked on a link, browsing haute couture dresses, pausing every now and then to zoom in on a few pieces. Expensive. Flashy. The kind of things Rosa lived for.Still nothing unusual.Later on, she switched apps, opening a chat where other models were gossiping about someone’s wardrobe malfunction at an event last night. I rolled my eyes. Rosa never missed an opportunity to enjoy someone else’s humiliation. Two hours passed. Two hours of boring, useless scrolling.I si

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 99

Scarlett's POV I never thought Michael would actually find me.Not here. Not in this house—his house, technically. The one Liam bought for me like a gift I never asked for, like a cage made of glass. When I first heard the knock, I told myself it was nothing. Maybe a delivery. A mistake. But something about it made my chest tighten. There was something certain about the way the knock sounded, like the person behind the door knew exactly who was inside.Still, nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when I opened it.It was really Michael. Standing there like a memory I had spent the past week trying to forget. He looked breathless. Shocked. Then his eyes locked on mine, and they filled with something raw—not just shock, but something like relief. Like just seeing me had knocked the breath out of him.His gaze moved past me, scanning the hallway. His voice dropped to a whisper. “Is anyone else here?”I shook my head. The second I did, he stepped forward and pulled me into a hug

Michael's POV That night, the moment Liam’s car disappeared into the darkness with Scarlett in it, I knew something was very wrong. It wasn’t just the way he drove off like a madman, or the way Scarlett looked at me one last time before slamming the door shut behind her. It was something deeper than that. Something sickening in my gut that told me Liam and Scarlett were involved in something I didn’t understand.I ran to my car and tried to follow them, but I wasn’t fast enough. By the time I reached the edge of the road, his taillights were nothing but red smudges swallowed by the horizon. And just like that, she was gone.I parked the car and sat there in silence, my hands shaking on the steering wheel, struggling to breathe. The weight in my chest felt like someone had punched straight through my ribs and crushed my lungs with their bare hands.I should have stopped her. Damn it, I should have fought harder. But all I did was let her go.The guilt didn’t come slowly. It hit me all

Scarlett's POV The first thing I felt was the sharp pain in my hand. A dull ache, like something foreign pulled at my skin. As I blinked, my eyes slowly adjusted to soft lighting, and the world around me came into clearer view.I was in the bedroom, with the curtains drawn halfway, letting bits of sunlight to filter in. A quiet beeping sound echoed near my head—steady, calm.I then noticed an IV drip in my hand. And Liam… was asleep beside me, his head resting gently on my arm.My whole body went stiff. The weight of everything came rushing back in one painful wave—his rage, the beach, the shouting, the bruises, the sex, the way my body gave out on me… and then darkness. My breath caught in my throat, and without thinking, I recoiled.Liam stirred immediately. His head jerked up. His eyes, still heavy with sleep, met mine. For a split second, he just stared. Then something wild lit up in his face—relief, joy, something else I couldn’t name.“You’re awake,” he whispered, reaching up

Liam's POV I didn’t remember dialing the number. My fingers just moved on their own, like they knew what needed to be done before I did. My throat burned as I barked into the phone.“Get the doctor. Now. Private, discreet, and fast.”I didn’t wait for a response. I dropped the phone on the floor and fell to my knees beside the bed.Scarlett was too still. Her lips were slightly open, and her lashes rested like feathers against her cheeks. Her chest rose and fell so shallowly that it made me sick.I reached for her hand. It was warm, but limp.“Come on,” I whispered, moving her hair away from her face. “Don’t do this. Don’t pull this shit, Scarlett. Not with me.”The door suddenly burst open behind me, and when I looked up, James stood in the doorway. He stood frozen as he took in the scene before him.I didn’t need to explain because the room spoke for itself—clothes torn and scattered across the floor, pillows thrown, sheets twisted, and Scarlett… lying unconscious. His eyes went wi

Liam's POV I had never felt panic like that before. It started with a call from James. He said Scarlett had gone to her father’s house. At first, I thought she had gone there to visit her family, so I tried to be calm. Gave her the benefit of the doubt. But then hours went by, and she still hadn't come back. I even called her several times, but there was no answer. That was when something in me snapped. My chest started tightening with every minute as I anxiously paced back and forth in my study.Suddenly, James appeared near the front door like he sensed the tension cutting through the air.“Where is Scarlett?” I barked. “Why isn't she back yet? It's getting late!”James flinched. “Mr. Liam, I… I thought she would be back on time, so I didn't bother…”“So you just let her walk out?!” I slammed my hand against the wall. “Are you blind or just stupid, James?!”“I didn’t see her leave…”“I don’t pay you to see,” I growled. “I pay you to watch. Find out when exactly she left the house.

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 94

Scarlett's POV I didn’t know how to answer Liam's question. His words hung in the air like smoke, thick and choking. They pressed down on my chest until I couldn’t breathe. What could I possibly say? Admit that I still cared for Michael? That I didn’t know what I felt? That I was confused and overwhelmed and caught between a past that never let me go and a present that terrified me?My mouth opened, but nothing came out.In that moment, Liam stepped forward slowly, his eyes scanning mine. His jaw clenched, and then, out of nowhere, his hand clamped down on my shoulder and pushed me back.I collided with the wall with a hard thud, a sharp gasp escaping me as my hands shot up in reflex.“L-Liam… what are you…”His palm was on my throat before I could finish. It felt cold and tight, pressing down on me.“So it’s really true?” he growled. “You have feelings for your damn brother-in-law? That’s the man you’ve been writing about in your stupid novel?”My heart dropped.“No. Liam, please ca

Scarlett's POV The words were right there—balanced on the tip of my tongue, trembling with everything I didn’t know how to say.But just as I opened my mouth to answer Michael’s question, a violent roar tore through the night like thunder. Headlights exploded across the windshield, searing white light swallowing us whole. My hand flew up to shield my eyes, feeling my heart hammering against my ribs.Michael winced, leaning forward with a scowl. “What the hell…”Then I saw it.That plate. That damn license plate. My breath caught in my throat, and my blood ran cold. I didn’t need to read the numbers twice. It was Liam.Panic punched me so hard I couldn’t breathe. My phone started buzzing again, vibrating in my hand like it was trying to escape. I didn’t want to answer. God, I didn’t want to. But I knew better than to ignore him. Especially not now. Not after he had found us.I answered with a shaky breath. “Liam...”His voice was as cold as ice shattering against concrete. “You really

Scarlett's POV I couldn’t bring myself to look at him.The second those words left his mouth—“Will you please forgive me?”—my eyes immediately dropped to the floor of the car like they were too heavy to lift.I wasn’t ready for that question. I wasn’t ready for him.I had waited so long for him to remember me. I had hoped for it, and prayed for it in the dark corners of my room when no one could hear me cry. But now that he was here, fully awake, fully aware… I was the one who felt lost.Too many years had passed. Too many wounds had layered over the old ones.My chest ached in places I didn’t even know could hurt.“I…” I swallowed hard, still avoiding his gaze. “I don’t know, Michael.”His hand stayed wrapped around mine, strong and steady, but I felt the slight tremble in it. Michael's POV I was trying so hard to keep my eyes on the road, but my mind was miles ahead. The soft hum of the car engine was the only thing between us. But it didn’t feel empty. It felt full, like there were a thousand things waiting to be said, and neither of us knew where to begin.Like I said before, I didn’t know what I was doing or where we were going to go. Not exactly. But I knew one thing for certain was that I wasn’t taking her back to that house.I wasn’t driving her back to those people who called themselves family. Not after what I had seen. Not after what they had done. She needed a new home. A safe place. Something clean. Something hers. And I had the means to give her all of it.Everything I owned—my company, my assets, my resources—they didn’t mean anything if I couldn’t use them to protect her. To rebuild what I helped break. If Scarlett was willing, I would give her everything.Just then, a soft voice broke through my thoughts. “Michael… you still haven't told me
