Scarlett‘s POV

“Yes, yes,” I answered quickly, shaking the thoughts away. But my heart wasn’t listening. It pounded against my ribs like it wanted out.

I was stunned. No, stunned wasn’t even the word. I was shaken.

Michael’s voice turned serious, low. “Actually, earlier today, I saw Rosa. I wasn’t trying to spy on her or anything, it just happened. She was talking to someone.” He paused. “And she didn’t look happy.”

I felt a lump form in my throat. "Who was she talking to?”

He let out a slow breath. “I think it was Ryan.”

My stomach sank. It felt like something had exploded deep in the ocean, breaking the surface, sending violent waves everywhere.

I had spent so much time forcing myself to stay calm, to pretend everything was fine. But this? This was something else.

Something was wrong. Something was very wrong.

Michael hesitated for a moment before asking, “Is this Ryan very important to you?”

The question caught me off guard. I opened my mouth, searching for an answer, but I had no

Scarlett's POV I shifted, standing from my bed and walking towards the window. The city lights were bright, but it did nothing to calm the storm raging inside me.I took a deep breath. “Michael, if you really do want to help me, then…”“I already said I would, didn’t I?”I hesitated. Because why? Why would he help me? Why would he choose to get involved in something that had nothing to do with him? After my call with Michael finally ended, I couldn’t sleep. I just lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, my thoughts spinning in endless circles.Rosa and Ryan… how could they be connected? What really happened that night? The questions chased each other in my mind, refusing to settle.Something was being kept from me. A secret so big, so dangerous, that the truth felt like it was just there, right in front of me, waiting to be exposed. But every time I reached for it, it slipped through my fingers.I turned onto my side, pressing my face against the pillow, but it didn’t help. Scarlett's POV I knew Liam had the best hacker team in the country. If there was anyone who could get me the information I needed, it was him. But there was one problem.Liam had been ignoring me, he was still mad at me because of my family. And when Liam was angry, he wasn’t the type to just let it go.I needed to find a way to make him happy, or at least distract him long enough to get what I wanted. So, I did something I had never done before. I took the initiative to call him. And I cooked. It wasn’t just any dinner, it was a feast. The kind that took hours to prepare, the kind that smelled so good it could make even the most hardened man stop in his tracks. When Liam finally returned to the apartment, I was standing in the kitchen, placing the last dish on the table. The air was filled with the rich aroma of roasted meat, perfectly seasoned vegetables, and warm, buttery bread.I turned to face him, my heart pounding. He stopped in the doorway, his sharp gaze sweeping over the sc

Scarlett's POV As soon as Liam was out of the house, I grabbed my phone and opened the monitoring app. My hands were shaking as I typed in the password. I didn’t know what I was looking for, but I knew I had to check. Rosa’s phone was active, and I needed to see what she was up to.My pulse quickened as I watched her screen light up, her fingers scrolling through her Instagram messages. She moved between conversations, checking private messages, replying with quick, effortless texts. There was nothing unusual. Then she clicked on a link, browsing haute couture dresses, pausing every now and then to zoom in on a few pieces. Expensive. Flashy. The kind of things Rosa lived for.Still nothing unusual.Later on, she switched apps, opening a chat where other models were gossiping about someone’s wardrobe malfunction at an event last night. I rolled my eyes. Rosa never missed an opportunity to enjoy someone else’s humiliation. Two hours passed. Two hours of boring, useless scrolling.I si

Scarlett's POV Like a voyeur, I kept opening the app, checking Rosa’s phone every few minutes. I was waiting for her next move. Waiting to see what she would do next. Finally, after hours of scrolling through meaningless conversations and endless photos, it happened. They set up a meeting place. A suburban hotel. Tomorrow. This was it. I had the time. The place. Now, I just needed to decide what to do with it.That night, I sat across from Liam, my fingers wrapped around a glass of water, my heart pounding as I told him everything. To my surprise, he didn’t react the way I expected. He didn’t argue. He didn’t try to stop me. He simply leaned back in his chair, watching me with dark, unreadable eyes. Then, after a long silence, he spoke. “Just be careful.”That was it. Just three words.I narrowed my eyes. “That’s all you’re going to say?”A slow smirk curled on his lips. “What do you want me to say, Scarlett? That you shouldn’t go?” He tilted his head slightly. “Would that stop you?”

Scarlett's POV The knocking came again. Louder than before.I swallowed nervously, my pulse pounding in my ears. I hadn’t called room service. I hadn’t ordered anything. So who the hell was at my door? For one terrifying second, I really thought it was Rosa.Had she found out I was here? Had she come to confront me?The thought sent a cold rush through my veins. If Rosa was on the other side of this door, she wouldn’t just be here to talk. The knocking didn’t stop.I clenched my jaw, glancing towards the wall separating me from her room.If I didn’t answer, whoever was knocking might keep going. And if they kept going, Rosa would hear. With no other option, I slowly reached for the handle, taking a deep breath before pulling the door open.A housekeeping lady stood outside, a cart beside her, her face blank.I blinked in surprise as it was definitely not what I had expected. Her uniform was crisp, her posture stiff. Something about her felt off.“Is… there something you need?” I aske

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 83

Scarlett's POV I sat frozen at the edge of my bed, the dim glow of the phone screen casting eerie shadows across my face. The air in my hotel room felt very thick, heavy, stifling, but I couldn’t look away. For the past hour, Rosa and Ryan had been tangled together on that bed, their bodies moving in sync, their hands gripping, pulling, taking.I never expected Rosa to be so wild in bed. For all her poise and control in public, behind closed doors, she was reckless, uninhibited, and raw. Now, I could understand why Michael was so obsessed with her.I swallowed hard, feeling a wave of nausea rolling over me. Why on earth am I even still watching this?I knew I should look away, turn the phone off, erase this from my mind. But my fingers were locked around the device, my body tense as the camera continued to capture every detail. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, it was over.Rosa peeled herself away from him, her breath still heavy as she grabbed the sheets to cover herself.

Scarlett's POV Without thinking, I immediately ended Liam's call and stared at the screen, the weight of his threat hanging heavy in the air like smoke. But honestly? My mind was far from Liam’s usual growl and warnings. It was Ryan I couldn't get out of my head. That look he gave the camera—it wasn’t random. It wasn’t careless. It was deliberate. Cold. Like he knew exactly who was watching. And when the screen went black right after? That wasn’t a coincidence. He had cut the feed. He wanted me to see, and then he yanked the cord, leaving me in the dark, grasping for answers. My fingers felt numb around the phone. My head was spinning. It took me far too long to pull myself together, to untangle the thick knot of shock winding tight in my chest.Ryan installed the surveillance camera. That much was clear now. But did he also really send the housekeeper? Was he the one playing games with me all along? Or was there someone else pulling the strings behind the scenes?I got up suddenly,

Scarlett's POV The sharp ring of my phone shattered the quiet of the morning, jerking me awake.I blinked groggily, my eyes barely adjusting to the light filtering through the curtains as I reached blindly for the phone vibrating on the nightstand. My heart still felt heavy from last night’s mess, and the lingering thoughts of Ryan and Rosa tangled in my head like barbed wire.I squinted at the screen. My father was calling. For a heartbeat, I wondered if I was still dreaming. My father’s name flashing on my phone? That hadn’t happened in—what—six months? Maybe more. The man hadn’t cared enough to call or text all this while, not even a casual check-in. And now, out of nowhere, he was calling me first thing in the morning?A heavy knot twisted in my stomach.Slowly, I answered, pressing the phone to my ear. "Hello…"“You wretched girl!” His shout was so loud I nearly dropped the phone. “Are you dead set on ruining your sister’s relationship?!”I held my breath. What the hell?“I’m gi

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 99

Scarlett's POV I never thought Michael would actually find me.Not here. Not in this house—his house, technically. The one Liam bought for me like a gift I never asked for, like a cage made of glass. When I first heard the knock, I told myself it was nothing. Maybe a delivery. A mistake. But something about it made my chest tighten. There was something certain about the way the knock sounded, like the person behind the door knew exactly who was inside.Still, nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when I opened it.It was really Michael. Standing there like a memory I had spent the past week trying to forget. He looked breathless. Shocked. Then his eyes locked on mine, and they filled with something raw—not just shock, but something like relief. Like just seeing me had knocked the breath out of him.His gaze moved past me, scanning the hallway. His voice dropped to a whisper. “Is anyone else here?”I shook my head. The second I did, he stepped forward and pulled me into a hug

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 98

Michael's POV That night, the moment Liam’s car disappeared into the darkness with Scarlett in it, I knew something was very wrong. It wasn’t just the way he drove off like a madman, or the way Scarlett looked at me one last time before slamming the door shut behind her. It was something deeper than that. Something sickening in my gut that told me Liam and Scarlett were involved in something I didn’t understand.I ran to my car and tried to follow them, but I wasn’t fast enough. By the time I reached the edge of the road, his taillights were nothing but red smudges swallowed by the horizon. And just like that, she was gone.I parked the car and sat there in silence, my hands shaking on the steering wheel, struggling to breathe. The weight in my chest felt like someone had punched straight through my ribs and crushed my lungs with their bare hands.I should have stopped her. Damn it, I should have fought harder. But all I did was let her go.The guilt didn’t come slowly. It hit me all

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 97

Scarlett's POV The first thing I felt was the sharp pain in my hand. A dull ache, like something foreign pulled at my skin. As I blinked, my eyes slowly adjusted to soft lighting, and the world around me came into clearer view.I was in the bedroom, with the curtains drawn halfway, letting bits of sunlight to filter in. A quiet beeping sound echoed near my head—steady, calm.I then noticed an IV drip in my hand. And Liam… was asleep beside me, his head resting gently on my arm.My whole body went stiff. The weight of everything came rushing back in one painful wave—his rage, the beach, the shouting, the bruises, the sex, the way my body gave out on me… and then darkness. My breath caught in my throat, and without thinking, I recoiled.Liam stirred immediately. His head jerked up. His eyes, still heavy with sleep, met mine. For a split second, he just stared. Then something wild lit up in his face—relief, joy, something else I couldn’t name.“You’re awake,” he whispered, reaching up

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 96

Liam's POV I didn’t remember dialing the number. My fingers just moved on their own, like they knew what needed to be done before I did. My throat burned as I barked into the phone.“Get the doctor. Now. Private, discreet, and fast.”I didn’t wait for a response. I dropped the phone on the floor and fell to my knees beside the bed.Scarlett was too still. Her lips were slightly open, and her lashes rested like feathers against her cheeks. Her chest rose and fell so shallowly that it made me sick.I reached for her hand. It was warm, but limp.“Come on,” I whispered, moving her hair away from her face. “Don’t do this. Don’t pull this shit, Scarlett. Not with me.”The door suddenly burst open behind me, and when I looked up, James stood in the doorway. He stood frozen as he took in the scene before him.I didn’t need to explain because the room spoke for itself—clothes torn and scattered across the floor, pillows thrown, sheets twisted, and Scarlett… lying unconscious. His eyes went wi

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 95

Liam's POV I had never felt panic like that before. It started with a call from James. He said Scarlett had gone to her father’s house. At first, I thought she had gone there to visit her family, so I tried to be calm. Gave her the benefit of the doubt. But then hours went by, and she still hadn't come back. I even called her several times, but there was no answer. That was when something in me snapped. My chest started tightening with every minute as I anxiously paced back and forth in my study.Suddenly, James appeared near the front door like he sensed the tension cutting through the air.“Where is Scarlett?” I barked. “Why isn't she back yet? It's getting late!”James flinched. “Mr. Liam, I… I thought she would be back on time, so I didn't bother…”“So you just let her walk out?!” I slammed my hand against the wall. “Are you blind or just stupid, James?!”“I didn’t see her leave…”“I don’t pay you to see,” I growled. “I pay you to watch. Find out when exactly she left the house.

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 94

Scarlett's POV I didn’t know how to answer Liam's question. His words hung in the air like smoke, thick and choking. They pressed down on my chest until I couldn’t breathe. What could I possibly say? Admit that I still cared for Michael? That I didn’t know what I felt? That I was confused and overwhelmed and caught between a past that never let me go and a present that terrified me?My mouth opened, but nothing came out.In that moment, Liam stepped forward slowly, his eyes scanning mine. His jaw clenched, and then, out of nowhere, his hand clamped down on my shoulder and pushed me back.I collided with the wall with a hard thud, a sharp gasp escaping me as my hands shot up in reflex.“L-Liam… what are you…”His palm was on my throat before I could finish. It felt cold and tight, pressing down on me.“So it’s really true?” he growled. “You have feelings for your damn brother-in-law? That’s the man you’ve been writing about in your stupid novel?”My heart dropped.“No. Liam, please ca

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 93

Scarlett's POV The words were right there—balanced on the tip of my tongue, trembling with everything I didn’t know how to say.But just as I opened my mouth to answer Michael’s question, a violent roar tore through the night like thunder. Headlights exploded across the windshield, searing white light swallowing us whole. My hand flew up to shield my eyes, feeling my heart hammering against my ribs.Michael winced, leaning forward with a scowl. “What the hell…”Then I saw it.That plate. That damn license plate. My breath caught in my throat, and my blood ran cold. I didn’t need to read the numbers twice. It was Liam.Panic punched me so hard I couldn’t breathe. My phone started buzzing again, vibrating in my hand like it was trying to escape. I didn’t want to answer. God, I didn’t want to. But I knew better than to ignore him. Especially not now. Not after he had found us.I answered with a shaky breath. “Liam...”His voice was as cold as ice shattering against concrete. “You really

Scarlett's POV I couldn’t bring myself to look at him.The second those words left his mouth—“Will you please forgive me?”—my eyes immediately dropped to the floor of the car like they were too heavy to lift.I wasn’t ready for that question. I wasn’t ready for him.I had waited so long for him to remember me. I had hoped for it, and prayed for it in the dark corners of my room when no one could hear me cry. But now that he was here, fully awake, fully aware… I was the one who felt lost.Too many years had passed. Too many wounds had layered over the old ones.My chest ached in places I didn’t even know could hurt.“I…” I swallowed hard, still avoiding his gaze. “I don’t know, Michael.”His hand stayed wrapped around mine, strong and steady, but I felt the slight tremble in it. I could feel the tension radiating off him. He was scared. Scared I would pull away for good.A gust of wind slipped through the slightly open window, carrying in the smell of sea salt and night. I closed my e

Michael's POV I was trying so hard to keep my eyes on the road, but my mind was miles ahead. The soft hum of the car engine was the only thing between us. But it didn’t feel empty. It felt full, like there were a thousand things waiting to be said, and neither of us knew where to begin.Like I said before, I didn’t know what I was doing or where we were going to go. Not exactly. But I knew one thing for certain was that I wasn’t taking her back to that house.I wasn’t driving her back to those people who called themselves family. Not after what I had seen. Not after what they had done. She needed a new home. A safe place. Something clean. Something hers. And I had the means to give her all of it.Everything I owned—my company, my assets, my resources—they didn’t mean anything if I couldn’t use them to protect her. To rebuild what I helped break. If Scarlett was willing, I would give her everything.Just then, a soft voice broke through my thoughts. “Michael… you still haven't told me
