Liam's POV

“You don't own me,” Scarlett shot back, her voice steady despite the anger in her eyes. “And you never will.”

Her words lit something inside me, something dark and furious. I didn't own her? Really?

I stepped closer, towering over her, my body trembling with restraint. “Aren't you scared of me? Even a little?”

“Oh, please. You’re nothing but a bully with too much money and too little heart.”

“You really need to know when to keep your mouth shut,” I growled, leaning down until we were nose-to-nose. “Or do I need to teach you?”

“Go ahead, try me. Let’s see how far you’re willing to go.”

I didn’t think. I just acted. My hands moved to her shoulders and gripped them tight. “You think I won’t, huh?” I said through clenched teeth. “You have no idea what I’m capable of.”

Her boldness only made my blood boil hotter.

The chair creaked under her as she kicked and squirmed, her strength surprising me.

“Let go of me!” she yelled, her voice desperate. “Don't you have anything better to

Scarlett's POV Tears welled up in my eyes, making it hard to see the butler's face clearly. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at how surreal this was. I felt bruised, humiliated, and trapped in a luxurious cage, while he looked at me like I was just another task on his list.Forever. That was what he said. I was stuck here forever unless I gave them something I didn’t even have. How on earth did I get myself into this mess?“Please, Miss Scarlett. I urge you to think it over,” James continued softly, his voice almost kind, as if that would somehow make his demands less awful. “Mr. Liam just wants the truth. Once that is given, everything will become much easier for you. This will not end well if you continue to resist.”I let out a bitter laugh, one that turned into a sob halfway through. My shoulders shook, the helplessness crashing down on me like a wave. “The truth? You mean Liam’s twisted version of it, don’t you? Because that’s all you folks care about.”He folded his hands

Scarlett's POV My heart raced as I hurriedly typed in the emergency number. This was my chance—my only chance.I hit the call button, holding my breath as the phone started to ring. One second. Two seconds. “Please, please,” I whispered, hoping for a response. The ringing stopped, and I could almost hear the faint crackle of a connection forming. But then, the line went dead.“No,” I muttered, hitting redial. The same thing happened. A sudden drop and then silence.“Damn it!” I slammed my hand on the table, the sound echoing in the quiet room. My palms were sweating, my thoughts all over the place. There had to be another way.I tried to unlock the phone screen, but it was password-protected, and I had no idea what the password was. Suddenly, the sound of the maid pounding on the door outside stopped. I stood there rooted to the spot. Had she left? Or was she going to find Liam to force the door open? I didn't have time to dwell on these thoughts; all I wanted was to unlock her phon

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 14

Scarlett's POV It had been days, maybe weeks, of being questioned, interrogated, accused. I had even lost track of time. Every day felt like the same nightmare on repeat. The only words I seemed to say anymore were, “I don’t have a child” and “I’m not lying.” My voice sounded empty even to me now. Finally, I was allowed to get out of the room and could wander around the manor freely. I needed to escape that suffocating room. I needed air that didn’t taste like tension. With shaky hands, I twisted the doorknob and stepped into the hallway. I didn’t know where I was going, but I didn’t care. I just needed out.The hallway twisted ahead of me, dimly lit and cold. I followed it, my steps echoing softly. I walked to the corner of the corridor and heard a woman making soft moaning sounds. At first, I thought someone was ill and asking for help. When I got close to that door, oft sounds drifted towards me—breathy, intimate. I gently turned the doorknob. I saw Liam pinning a woman aga

Scarlett's POV The air in the kitchen felt heavy, the tension thick enough to cut through. “No one? Really?” I shouted, my eyes darting around at the motionless staff. “You’re all just going to stand there and not do anything?”I turned my glare to the nearest chef, my chest heaving, desperation evident in my every word. “What is the matter with all of you? Are you afraid of him? Afraid of what? He’s just a man!”Still, no one moved. Not a single person met my eyes. They kept their heads down, pretending they couldn’t hear me, couldn’t feel the intensity of my anger. It was maddening, making me feel smaller and more trapped than ever.Just then, to my surprise, the timid sound of footsteps broke through the tension. I held my breath as a maid stepped forward from the edge of the room, her small frame trembling slightly. She stood just a few feet away, nervously wringing her hands together before finally lifting her head to speak.“Sir,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 16

Scarlett's POV Why did he eat it? Why didn’t he insult me? Why didn’t he flip the plate like he did with the others? The questions circled my mind as I walked back to my room. I've been locked in here for days, maybe even weeks, and I’ve come to realize that Liam wasn’t the kind of man to let things slide, especially when it came to me. Yet, he had eaten the steak I made without a single sarcastic comment, without even a scowl. Just silence. Honestly, it was unsettling.By the time I reached my room, I was no closer to an answer. I paced back and forth, replaying the scene in my head like a movie I couldn’t stop watching. His cold stare, the way he cut into the steak, the quiet way he left afterward. What game are you playing, Liam?Just then, my pacing was interrupted by a soft knock at the door. My stomach twisted as I stopped and stared at it. I already knew who it was. The knock was too polite to belong to anyone else.“It’s open.”James stepped inside, his expression as ca

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 17

Scarlett's POV In the evening, I had already turned off the lights and gone to bed. The door of my bedroom was opened from the outside. I clearly remembered that I had locked it. I quickly turned on the light. It was Liam. He walked in wearing his pajamas. I looked at him in shock, hugged the pillow beside me and shouted at him, "Don't come any closer!" However, he still kept approaching, with a smile on his lips. "What? You tried to please me with desserts during the day, but now at night, you're treating me like a fierce beast?" He snatched the pillow right out of my arms. “Desserts aren’t my thing, you know,” Liam suddenly lifted up my quilt and grabbed me towards him. Panic surged through me as I struggled desperately in his grip. I wriggled my body, trying to break free from his hold.“Then why are you eating it?” I asked, trying to keep my tone even, annoyed at the ridiculousness of the situation. “And why did you eat it all up?”He raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into

I can feel my body burning.Scarlett didn’t shrink back or apologize like most people did when I turned my full attention on them. No, she had the audacity to look me straight in the eye and continue.“You heard me. I said you're a psychopath. You should have let that doctor treat you that day instead of locking me up here and repeatedly forcing me like a devil to hand over the child. ”The words hit me like a slap, and for a moment, I couldn’t breathe. “You think this is a joke?” I growled, my voice trembling with rage. She shrugged. “I think someone should have told you a long time ago. Maybe then you wouldn’t be so insufferable.”That was it. The last thread of my control snapped. In an instant, I grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her backwards. She stumbled and landed on the floor with a thud, her eyes wide with shock.“Do you want to die, Scarlett?” I snarled, s

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 19

Scarlett's POV I had been in a relationship with him for three years. Even after that incident, he stayed by my side without wavering and had been constantly helping me search for the person who spread the rumors behind my back. Those days had been simple, sweet in a way that felt like a dream now. We had shared so many moments—his laugh, the way he trusted me to guide him, the quiet conversations late at night when he said he couldn’t sleep. However, everything changed after that car accident. He lost his memory. There had been an accident, one I couldn’t prevent, and when he woke up in the hospital, he looked at me with clear eyes for the first time. He didn’t see me.He fell in love with my younger sister and was preparing to marry her. Finally, I picked up the pen.I wrote in the notebook with tears streaming down my face, "I hope you can remember, yet I also hope you'll forget me forever." Then I wrote down the number that was deeply engraved in my mind, the number that I had

Scarlett's POV I never thought Michael would actually find me.Not here. Not in this house—his house, technically. The one Liam bought for me like a gift I never asked for, like a cage made of glass. When I first heard the knock, I told myself it was nothing. Maybe a delivery. A mistake. But something about it made my chest tighten. There was something certain about the way the knock sounded, like the person behind the door knew exactly who was inside.Still, nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when I opened it.It was really Michael. Standing there like a memory I had spent the past week trying to forget. He looked breathless. Shocked. Then his eyes locked on mine, and they filled with something raw—not just shock, but something like relief. Like just seeing me had knocked the breath out of him.His gaze moved past me, scanning the hallway. His voice dropped to a whisper. “Is anyone else here?”I shook my head. The second I did, he stepped forward and pulled me into a hug

Michael's POV That night, the moment Liam’s car disappeared into the darkness with Scarlett in it, I knew something was very wrong. It wasn’t just the way he drove off like a madman, or the way Scarlett looked at me one last time before slamming the door shut behind her. It was something deeper than that. Something sickening in my gut that told me Liam and Scarlett were involved in something I didn’t understand.I ran to my car and tried to follow them, but I wasn’t fast enough. By the time I reached the edge of the road, his taillights were nothing but red smudges swallowed by the horizon. And just like that, she was gone.I parked the car and sat there in silence, my hands shaking on the steering wheel, struggling to breathe. The weight in my chest felt like someone had punched straight through my ribs and crushed my lungs with their bare hands.I should have stopped her. Damn it, I should have fought harder. But all I did was let her go.The guilt didn’t come slowly. It hit me all

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 97

Scarlett's POV The first thing I felt was the sharp pain in my hand. A dull ache, like something foreign pulled at my skin. As I blinked, my eyes slowly adjusted to soft lighting, and the world around me came into clearer view.I was in the bedroom, with the curtains drawn halfway, letting bits of sunlight to filter in. A quiet beeping sound echoed near my head—steady, calm.I then noticed an IV drip in my hand. And Liam… was asleep beside me, his head resting gently on my arm.My whole body went stiff. The weight of everything came rushing back in one painful wave—his rage, the beach, the shouting, the bruises, the sex, the way my body gave out on me… and then darkness. My breath caught in my throat, and without thinking, I recoiled.Liam stirred immediately. His head jerked up. His eyes, still heavy with sleep, met mine. For a split second, he just stared. Then something wild lit up in his face—relief, joy, something else I couldn’t name.“You’re awake,” he whispered, reaching up

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 96

Liam's POV I didn’t remember dialing the number. My fingers just moved on their own, like they knew what needed to be done before I did. My throat burned as I barked into the phone.“Get the doctor. Now. Private, discreet, and fast.”I didn’t wait for a response. I dropped the phone on the floor and fell to my knees beside the bed.Scarlett was too still. Her lips were slightly open, and her lashes rested like feathers against her cheeks. Her chest rose and fell so shallowly that it made me sick.I reached for her hand. It was warm, but limp.“Come on,” I whispered, moving her hair away from her face. “Don’t do this. Don’t pull this shit, Scarlett. Not with me.”The door suddenly burst open behind me, and when I looked up, James stood in the doorway. He stood frozen as he took in the scene before him.I didn’t need to explain because the room spoke for itself—clothes torn and scattered across the floor, pillows thrown, sheets twisted, and Scarlett… lying unconscious. His eyes went wi

Liam's POV I had never felt panic like that before. It started with a call from James. He said Scarlett had gone to her father’s house. At first, I thought she had gone there to visit her family, so I tried to be calm. Gave her the benefit of the doubt. But then hours went by, and she still hadn't come back. I even called her several times, but there was no answer. That was when something in me snapped. My chest started tightening with every minute as I anxiously paced back and forth in my study.Suddenly, James appeared near the front door like he sensed the tension cutting through the air.“Where is Scarlett?” I barked. “Why isn't she back yet? It's getting late!”James flinched. “Mr. Liam, I… I thought she would be back on time, so I didn't bother…”“So you just let her walk out?!” I slammed my hand against the wall. “Are you blind or just stupid, James?!”“I didn’t see her leave…”“I don’t pay you to see,” I growled. “I pay you to watch. Find out when exactly she left the house.

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 94

Scarlett's POV I didn’t know how to answer Liam's question. His words hung in the air like smoke, thick and choking. They pressed down on my chest until I couldn’t breathe. What could I possibly say? Admit that I still cared for Michael? That I didn’t know what I felt? That I was confused and overwhelmed and caught between a past that never let me go and a present that terrified me?My mouth opened, but nothing came out.In that moment, Liam stepped forward slowly, his eyes scanning mine. His jaw clenched, and then, out of nowhere, his hand clamped down on my shoulder and pushed me back.I collided with the wall with a hard thud, a sharp gasp escaping me as my hands shot up in reflex.“L-Liam… what are you…”His palm was on my throat before I could finish. It felt cold and tight, pressing down on me.“So it’s really true?” he growled. “You have feelings for your damn brother-in-law? That’s the man you’ve been writing about in your stupid novel?”My heart dropped.“No. Liam, please ca

Scarlett's POV The words were right there—balanced on the tip of my tongue, trembling with everything I didn’t know how to say.But just as I opened my mouth to answer Michael’s question, a violent roar tore through the night like thunder. Headlights exploded across the windshield, searing white light swallowing us whole. My hand flew up to shield my eyes, feeling my heart hammering against my ribs.Michael winced, leaning forward with a scowl. “What the hell…”Then I saw it.That plate. That damn license plate. My breath caught in my throat, and my blood ran cold. I didn’t need to read the numbers twice. It was Liam.Panic punched me so hard I couldn’t breathe. My phone started buzzing again, vibrating in my hand like it was trying to escape. I didn’t want to answer. God, I didn’t want to. But I knew better than to ignore him. Especially not now. Not after he had found us.I answered with a shaky breath. “Liam...”His voice was as cold as ice shattering against concrete. “You really

Scarlett's POV I couldn’t bring myself to look at him.The second those words left his mouth—“Will you please forgive me?”—my eyes immediately dropped to the floor of the car like they were too heavy to lift.I wasn’t ready for that question. I wasn’t ready for him.I had waited so long for him to remember me. I had hoped for it, and prayed for it in the dark corners of my room when no one could hear me cry. But now that he was here, fully awake, fully aware… I was the one who felt lost.Too many years had passed. Too many wounds had layered over the old ones.My chest ached in places I didn’t even know could hurt.“I…” I swallowed hard, still avoiding his gaze. “I don’t know, Michael.”His hand stayed wrapped around mine, strong and steady, but I felt the slight tremble in it. I could feel the tension radiating off him. He was scared. Scared I would pull away for good.A gust of wind slipped through the slightly open window, carrying in the smell of sea salt and night. Michael's POV I was trying so hard to keep my eyes on the road, but my mind was miles ahead. The soft hum of the car engine was the only thing between us. But it didn’t feel empty. It felt full, like there were a thousand things waiting to be said, and neither of us knew where to begin.Like I said before, I didn’t know what I was doing or where we were going to go. Not exactly. But I knew one thing for certain was that I wasn’t taking her back to that house.I wasn’t driving her back to those people who called themselves family. Not after what I had seen. Not after what they had done. She needed a new home. A safe place. Something clean. Something hers. And I had the means to give her all of it.Everything I owned—my company, my assets, my resources—they didn’t mean anything if I couldn’t use them to protect her. To rebuild what I helped break. If Scarlett was willing, I would give her everything.Just then, a soft voice broke through my thoughts. “Michael… you still haven't told me
