Scarlett's POV

In the evening, I had already turned off the lights and gone to bed. The door of my bedroom was opened from the outside. I clearly remembered that I had locked it. I quickly turned on the light. It was Liam. He walked in wearing his pajamas.

I looked at him in shock, hugged the pillow beside me and shouted at him, "Don't come any closer!" However, he still kept approaching, with a smile on his lips.

"What? You tried to please me with desserts during the day, but now at night, you're treating me like a fierce beast?" He snatched the pillow right out of my arms.

“Desserts aren’t my thing, you know,” Liam suddenly lifted up my quilt and grabbed me towards him. Panic surged through me as I struggled desperately in his grip. I wriggled my body, trying to break free from his hold.

“Then why are you eating it?” I asked, trying to keep my tone even, annoyed at the ridiculousness of the situation. “And why did you eat it all up?”

He raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into

I can feel my body burning.Scarlett didn’t shrink back or apologize like most people did when I turned my full attention on them. No, she had the audacity to look me straight in the eye and continue.“You heard me. I said you're a psychopath. You should have let that doctor treat you that day instead of locking me up here and repeatedly forcing me like a devil to hand over the child. ”The words hit me like a slap, and for a moment, I couldn’t breathe. “You think this is a joke?” I growled, my voice trembling with rage. She shrugged. “I think someone should have told you a long time ago. Maybe then you wouldn’t be so insufferable.”That was it. The last thread of my control snapped. In an instant, I grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her backwards. She stumbled and landed on the floor with a thud, her eyes wide with shock.“Do you want to die, Scarlett?” I snarled, s

Scarlett's POV I had been in a relationship with him for three years. Even after that incident, he stayed by my side without wavering and had been constantly helping me search for the person who spread the rumors behind my back. Those days had been simple, sweet in a way that felt like a dream now. We had shared so many moments—his laugh, the way he trusted me to guide him, the quiet conversations late at night when he said he couldn’t sleep. However, everything changed after that car accident. He lost his memory. There had been an accident, one I couldn’t prevent, and when he woke up in the hospital, he looked at me with clear eyes for the first time. He didn’t see me.He fell in love with my younger sister and was preparing to marry her. Finally, I picked up the pen.I wrote in the notebook with tears streaming down my face, "I hope you can remember, yet I also hope you'll forget me forever." Then I wrote down the number that was deeply engraved in my mind, the number that I had

Scarlett's POV This deserted island seemed to be cut off from the rest of the world. There were no houses or buildings here at all—quiet, endless, and cruel. The trees were tall, their thick branches creating shadows over the ground. The air was heavy, damp, and smelled of earth and decay. I had been walking for what felt like hours, my bare feet scraping against sharp rocks and twigs. The first day went by in a blur, and by nightfall, my stomach rumbled with hunger. There was nothing here. No fruits, no animals, no signs of life. Just the constant rustling of leaves and the feeling of being watched. I could barely even see, and every rustle in the bushes made my heart leap into my throat.Every time I thought I was alone, I would catch the flicker of movement in the corner of my eye. I would quickly turn around, trying to see into the darkness, but saw nothing. Yet, the feeling of being watched prickled at the back of my neck. My instincts told me I was being followed, though who

Scarlett's POV When I opened my eyes, the first thing I noticed was the softness beneath me. My fingers unconsciously curled into the sheets, and the comforting warmth of the blanket wrapped around me was so foreign that it felt wrong. My mind raced, trying to piece together where I was. The last thing I remembered was the forest—the never ending cold, the hunger, the weight of my own tiredness pulling me down.I should have been lying on wet ground, half-dead and forgotten, not tucked into a bed that smelled faintly of lavender. How am I here?Just then, I sat up too fast, the room spinning as my head throbbed. “Am I in heaven?” I whispered to no one, touching my arms and legs as if to make sure they were still there.I ran my fingers over the soft fabric of the blanket again as if touching it might make it disappear.“Was it all just a dream?” I thought, gripping the blanket tighter. But the lingering pain in my body said otherwise. The hunger, the cold—it had been real.In that

Scarlett's POV When Liam didn’t answer my question, I stared at him, my disbelief growing with each second of silence. The tension in the room felt thick enough to suffocate me.My voice was sharper when I asked again, “Talk to me. You’re not joking?”He nodded, his jaw set, his eyes colder than I had ever seen them. “This is my last bottom line. If you don't agree, I can take back what I just said. ” His tone left no room for negotiation. The words rang in my head, both a glimmer of hope and a looming threat. Gather proof, to clear my name, to escape. Was this really a chance to regain my freedom? Or was it just another one of his games, a cruel way to trap me deeper into his control?Liam’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts. “Don’t get too comfortable,” he said, his tone sharp. “This isn’t me going easy on you. If you fail, Scarlett, you’ll wish I had left you in that deserted island.”I swallowed hard, my mind racing. I wanted to respond, to lash out at him, but I couldn’t fin

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 23

Scarlett's POV The morning air was cool, and the faint light of dawn kissed the towering gate of the mansion as I stepped outside. A sleek black car waited for me, with the driver already seated inside. James, the ever-dutiful butler, was there too, his face as calm and unreadable as always.“Miss Scarlett,” he said, his tone polite but firm, “before you leave, there are some things I must say.”I paused, my hand resting on the car door. “What now, James? Another lecture about how I should ‘behave’ around Liam?”“This isn’t a lecture. It’s a warning.”I raised an eyebrow, crossing my arms. “A warning? About what?James stepped closer, his gaze hardening. “Do not anger Mr. Liam again. The island was not a punishment, it was a test. A test you barely survived.”My stomach twisted at his words, but I refused to show it. “I didn’t realize Liam needed me to pass tests to justify his cruelty,” I shot back.James’s expression didn’t change. “You think this is a game, Miss Scarlett. But it

Scarlett's POV I felt my chest tighten. “I’m not running from anything,” I said, though the lie felt heavy on my tongue.“Right,” Michael replied sarcastically. “Because you’re so good at standing your ground.”I wasn’t ready for this. Of all the places, of all the times—why was he here? The air around us suddenly felt tight. I even tried to speak, but my throat was dry. I had imagined this moment a hundred times—what I would say if I ever saw him again. But now that he was here, flesh and bone, glaring at me like I was something filthy clinging to his shoe, the words refused to come.Michael leaned back against the car seat, one arm hung lazily over the window frame. The streetlights created shadows on his sharp jawline, making him look even more untouchable than before. When I still didn’t speak, he let out a slow, mocking chuckle.“By the way, what did you mean by that email you had someone send me last time?” His voice was smooth, but laced with annoyance. “What exactly does ‘re

Scarlett's POV By the time I got home, exhaustion wrapped around me like a heavy blanket. My legs felt like they were made of stone, my head pounded, and every muscle in my body screamed for rest.I barely had the strength to kick off my shoes before I collapsed onto the couch, my limbs heavy and useless.I needed sleep. Desperately. But more than that, I needed proof—undeniable, solid proof that I had never been pregnant.Tomorrow, I planned to visit the hospital. A simple check-up would confirm what I already knew—that my body had never carried a child. And when I had that proof in my hands, I would shove it in Liam’s face and watch his smug, arrogant expression crumble. That thought alone was the only thing keeping me from falling apart. The next morning, before the sun had even fully risen, my phone shrieked through the silence, pulling me out of sleep like a slap to the face.I groaned, rolling over and fumbling for my phone. My screen flashed with a name that made my stomach dr

Scarlett's POV I never thought Michael would actually find me.Not here. Not in this house—his house, technically. The one Liam bought for me like a gift I never asked for, like a cage made of glass. When I first heard the knock, I told myself it was nothing. Maybe a delivery. A mistake. But something about it made my chest tighten. There was something certain about the way the knock sounded, like the person behind the door knew exactly who was inside.Still, nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when I opened it.It was really Michael. Standing there like a memory I had spent the past week trying to forget. He looked breathless. Shocked. Then his eyes locked on mine, and they filled with something raw—not just shock, but something like relief. Like just seeing me had knocked the breath out of him.His gaze moved past me, scanning the hallway. His voice dropped to a whisper. “Is anyone else here?”I shook my head. The second I did, he stepped forward and pulled me into a hug

Michael's POV That night, the moment Liam’s car disappeared into the darkness with Scarlett in it, I knew something was very wrong. It wasn’t just the way he drove off like a madman, or the way Scarlett looked at me one last time before slamming the door shut behind her. It was something deeper than that. Something sickening in my gut that told me Liam and Scarlett were involved in something I didn’t understand.I ran to my car and tried to follow them, but I wasn’t fast enough. By the time I reached the edge of the road, his taillights were nothing but red smudges swallowed by the horizon. And just like that, she was gone.I parked the car and sat there in silence, my hands shaking on the steering wheel, struggling to breathe. The weight in my chest felt like someone had punched straight through my ribs and crushed my lungs with their bare hands.I should have stopped her. Damn it, I should have fought harder. But all I did was let her go.The guilt didn’t come slowly. It hit me all

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 97

Scarlett's POV The first thing I felt was the sharp pain in my hand. A dull ache, like something foreign pulled at my skin. As I blinked, my eyes slowly adjusted to soft lighting, and the world around me came into clearer view.I was in the bedroom, with the curtains drawn halfway, letting bits of sunlight to filter in. A quiet beeping sound echoed near my head—steady, calm.I then noticed an IV drip in my hand. And Liam… was asleep beside me, his head resting gently on my arm.My whole body went stiff. The weight of everything came rushing back in one painful wave—his rage, the beach, the shouting, the bruises, the sex, the way my body gave out on me… and then darkness. My breath caught in my throat, and without thinking, I recoiled.Liam stirred immediately. His head jerked up. His eyes, still heavy with sleep, met mine. For a split second, he just stared. Then something wild lit up in his face—relief, joy, something else I couldn’t name.“You’re awake,” he whispered, reaching up

Liam's POV I didn’t remember dialing the number. My fingers just moved on their own, like they knew what needed to be done before I did. My throat burned as I barked into the phone.“Get the doctor. Now. Private, discreet, and fast.”I didn’t wait for a response. I dropped the phone on the floor and fell to my knees beside the bed.Scarlett was too still. Her lips were slightly open, and her lashes rested like feathers against her cheeks. Her chest rose and fell so shallowly that it made me sick.I reached for her hand. It was warm, but limp.“Come on,” I whispered, moving her hair away from her face. “Don’t do this. Don’t pull this shit, Scarlett. Not with me.”The door suddenly burst open behind me, and when I looked up, James stood in the doorway. He stood frozen as he took in the scene before him.I didn’t need to explain because the room spoke for itself—clothes torn and scattered across the floor, pillows thrown, sheets twisted, and Scarlett… lying unconscious. His eyes went wi

Liam's POV I had never felt panic like that before. It started with a call from James. He said Scarlett had gone to her father’s house. At first, I thought she had gone there to visit her family, so I tried to be calm. Gave her the benefit of the doubt. But then hours went by, and she still hadn't come back. I even called her several times, but there was no answer. That was when something in me snapped. My chest started tightening with every minute as I anxiously paced back and forth in my study.Suddenly, James appeared near the front door like he sensed the tension cutting through the air.“Where is Scarlett?” I barked. “Why isn't she back yet? It's getting late!”James flinched. “Mr. Liam, I… I thought she would be back on time, so I didn't bother…”“So you just let her walk out?!” I slammed my hand against the wall. “Are you blind or just stupid, James?!”“I didn’t see her leave…”“I don’t pay you to see,” I growled. “I pay you to watch. Find out when exactly she left the house.

  • The Mafia's Claim   Chapter 94

Scarlett's POV I didn’t know how to answer Liam's question. His words hung in the air like smoke, thick and choking. They pressed down on my chest until I couldn’t breathe. What could I possibly say? Admit that I still cared for Michael? That I didn’t know what I felt? That I was confused and overwhelmed and caught between a past that never let me go and a present that terrified me?My mouth opened, but nothing came out.In that moment, Liam stepped forward slowly, his eyes scanning mine. His jaw clenched, and then, out of nowhere, his hand clamped down on my shoulder and pushed me back.I collided with the wall with a hard thud, a sharp gasp escaping me as my hands shot up in reflex.“L-Liam… what are you…”His palm was on my throat before I could finish. It felt cold and tight, pressing down on me.“So it’s really true?” he growled. “You have feelings for your damn brother-in-law? That’s the man you’ve been writing about in your stupid novel?”My heart dropped.“No. Liam, please ca

Scarlett's POV The words were right there—balanced on the tip of my tongue, trembling with everything I didn’t know how to say.But just as I opened my mouth to answer Michael’s question, a violent roar tore through the night like thunder. Headlights exploded across the windshield, searing white light swallowing us whole. My hand flew up to shield my eyes, feeling my heart hammering against my ribs.Michael winced, leaning forward with a scowl. “What the hell…”Then I saw it.That plate. That damn license plate. My breath caught in my throat, and my blood ran cold. I didn’t need to read the numbers twice. It was Liam.Panic punched me so hard I couldn’t breathe. My phone started buzzing again, vibrating in my hand like it was trying to escape. I didn’t want to answer. God, I didn’t want to. But I knew better than to ignore him. Especially not now. Not after he had found us.I answered with a shaky breath. “Liam...”His voice was as cold as ice shattering against concrete. “You really

Scarlett's POV I couldn’t bring myself to look at him.The second those words left his mouth—“Will you please forgive me?”—my eyes immediately dropped to the floor of the car like they were too heavy to lift.I wasn’t ready for that question. I wasn’t ready for him.I had waited so long for him to remember me. I had hoped for it, and prayed for it in the dark corners of my room when no one could hear me cry. But now that he was here, fully awake, fully aware… I was the one who felt lost.Too many years had passed. Too many wounds had layered over the old ones.My chest ached in places I didn’t even know could hurt.“I…” I swallowed hard, still avoiding his gaze. “I don’t know, Michael.”His hand stayed wrapped around mine, strong and steady, but I felt the slight tremble in it. Michael's POV I was trying so hard to keep my eyes on the road, but my mind was miles ahead. The soft hum of the car engine was the only thing between us. But it didn’t feel empty. It felt full, like there were a thousand things waiting to be said, and neither of us knew where to begin.Like I said before, I didn’t know what I was doing or where we were going to go. Not exactly. But I knew one thing for certain was that I wasn’t taking her back to that house.I wasn’t driving her back to those people who called themselves family. Not after what I had seen. Not after what they had done. She needed a new home. A safe place. Something clean. Something hers. And I had the means to give her all of it.Everything I owned—my company, my assets, my resources—they didn’t mean anything if I couldn’t use them to protect her. To rebuild what I helped break. If Scarlett was willing, I would give her everything.Just then, a soft voice broke through my thoughts. “Michael… you still haven't told me
