Juan's words made Arya feel like she couldn't breathe. She wanted to push him away and slam the door. She wanted to get away from him and be alone. But she couldn't move because Juan was too close. His breath was fanning her chest and for some odd reason she felt a delicious sensation within her.

The space between them was too close and there seemed to be electricity or some sort of spark cracking between them. He was staring at her full pink pouty lips. She kicked them nervously, looking away and hesitating on whether she should take a step back or but then Juan's phone decided for her because it rang. The sound was loud and sharp, and it broke the chemistry between them but also gave Arya a sense of relief.

Juan looked at his phone before he answered it. He didn't smile, but his lips curled up a little. He took a step back and put the phone to his ear. He looked at Arya while he talked.

"Yeah?" he said. "What's going on?"

Arya didn't know what to do as she stared at him. Should s

He didn't wait for the caller to finish speaking before he said I'll be there in fifteen minutes. It wasn't something he could send a random person in his crime faction to attend to. He had to be there himself."Um, boss where exactly are we going to?" Hernandez finally asked when they has driven completely out of the grounds of his estate. Juan had forgotten to ask for any details once he heard an accident. "Hold on," Juan breathed heavily, calling the guard back. The guard picked on the first ring."Where am I to meet you?""Saint Ives hospital," the man said. Juan repeated it off to Hernandez."What really happened?" He inquired, running s hand through his hair. "And what's the severity?""It looked like an accident at first. But there’s something off. The car was tampered with, and we’re getting reports that someone was tailing her. It wasn’t just an accident, Juan. Someone’s sending a message. To you. My harming your... Juan's froze. Shock was written all over his face in an instant. "What did you say?" he asked, his voice taking on a low but rough tone.Ricardo repeated the words, and this time, they hit Juan like a punch to the gut. "Rocco is dead." "No...""He didn't survive," Ricardo said. "He took the impact on the driver's side. It was instant." The silence that followed that statement was long. Juan's jaw clenched tightly, his teeth grinding together. He was holding his breath, the sound of his gasps and growls mingling in his throat. His eyes blurred, but not from tears— they were blurred due to his anger that was boiling over, and he yelled a curse. He slammed his palm against the car door. "Rocco? Was that Rocco driving? And now he's... he's dead?" Hernandez flinched, but said nothing.Juan's eyes looked wild, his gaze unfocused, darting in all directions. He started talking to himself, his words tumbling out in a rush. "He was with me for eight years," he said. "He was one of them men

"I know," Juan said quietly. Hr was trying to keep his voice steady but it seemed nearly impossible "He was brave. He protected me, just like he always does." Belle whispered, "I'm so sorry..." Her voice was shaking with guilt and sadness.Juan gently wiped away a tear that had slipped down her cheek. "Don't apologize," he said. "You didn't do this. Someone else is to blame. And I promise you, Belle, I'm going to find out who did this to you."She looked at him, her eyes filled with hope and pain. "And when I find them..." His voice became cold, and the anger was clear in his words. "They will regret ever drawing breath in this world. I swear it."Belle weakly squeezed his hand. "You promise?" she asked, her voice barely audible. But it was filled with a desperate need for assurance. "I promise," Juan replied.Juan leaned back in his chair, one hand running down his face in exhaustion. "You scared me, you know that?" he murmured. Belle gave a small, almost embarrassed laugh. "You

"Belle," Juan finally said after a few minutes of debating whether he should leave her to attend to business or not. "Something came up, I have to leave.""You just promised you'll stay," she pouted, opening her eyes to look up at him. "What do you mean you're leaving already.""A shipment got hijacked, it's worth millions of—""You're saying it's worth more than my life?""I'm not saying that," he sighed. He was annoyed but also grateful that the accident did not make Belle to lose her sense of self. "Plus you're are receiving treatment. You'll he fine. They'll schedule your for surgery to fix your bones and... I'll be there.""I want you here now,"Belle said. "Leaving will only add to my pain.""How?" Juan asked with a sigh. "I'm not throwing a brick at you.""Don't leave," Belle said, closing her eyes again. "If you leave... I'll...""You'll do what?" His mind was already racing, as he was thinking of a thousand plans already in just a few seconds, trying to figure out the best way to handle the situation. The anxiety was building up inside him, but he pushed it aside trying to be focused on what needed to be done. First, he had to gather some men who were able to fight. They had to act fast, with no time to waste. The clock was ticking, and with Giovanni's team was already outnumbered and suppressed by whoever the enemy team was, he needed his strongest men. "Dammit," he muttered to himself, his voice filled with frustration. He turned around, already heading back to Belle's room go check on her one last time before leaving. After hearing Giovanni's voice, he could not just send men in without his own supervision. He would not allow himself to be one of those coward Mafia bosses who will always put men ok the job and never fight themselves. Yes, he could not be everywhere at once and not everything needed his attention or for hi

After what seemed close to an eternity, mostly due to Juan's impatience and anxiety, they arrived there. The night by the bay was loud and dangerous. It was far from peaceful. The sound of gunshots echoed all around, loud like thunder in a storm. The flashes from the guns lit up the dark like small explosions. Juan jumped out of the vehicle, his boots hitting the wet ground hard. His coat flew behind him as he moved fast through the gunfight. The ground was slippery. Water from the sea mixed with blood, making it even more dangerous to walk or run. People were hiding behind big metal containers, trying not to get shot. Juan’s men, who he had called earlier for help, were already there. They were using the cargo for cover and firing back at the enemy without hesitation.Someone noticed Juan and yelled, “The boss is here!”Juan didn’t stop to ask questions. He pulled out his gun quickly, his eyes scanning the whole area. One of his men ran up to him, ducking behind things to avoid getti

Juan stood in the middle of the room for a while, not moving. His eyes were fixed on the dark window in front of him. The glass reflected his face. He looked tired, older than before. His thoughts were spinning in two directions. One part of him wanted to go see Belle. She needed care, maybe just someone to be there. The other part of him was thinking about the warehouse situation, which was serious and needed to be handled with strength and focus. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He typed a short message to Hernandez:“Any progress?”Less than a minute later, a reply appeared on the screen.“They’re not talking. We’ve tried… everything.”Juan’s jaw tightened. He thought about going there himself. He knew what it would be like. Just another long night filled with tension and anger, and probably not much success. But then he remembered Belle. He cleaned up quickly. He took off his shirt and looked at the scrape on his side. It wasn’t very deep, but it burned. He cle

Juan looked toward Belle’s hospital room one last time. The small window on the door gave him a glimpse of the soft light inside. Then he lowered his eyes to the message on his phone again. His stomach turned uncomfortably. This wasn’t just stress. This felt like betrayal.Someone close to him had talked. Someone he trusted. Someone who was supposed to have his back had opened their mouth and said too much.He stood there in silence for a moment, trying to calm the anger bubbling inside him. He took a slow, steady breath and typed back a reply:“I’m on my way. Don’t let them talk to anyone else.”After hitting send, he slipped the phone back into his pocket. He walked away from the wall. Belle would probably fall asleep soon. She needed rest and he needed to sort out his business. Arya didn’t move. She stood frozen there on the porch, phone still pressed to her ear. Her whole body felt cold, like the air had stopped around her. Her fingers were stiff. Her lips were shaking. Her legs felt weak, like they might give out at any second.“She passed away this morning,” the voice repeated again, soft and careful, like they were trying not to hurt her more.Arya didn’t answer right away. She couldn’t. She just blinked, once, then again, trying to hold herself together. She swallowed hard.“Can… can you send me the address? Please. I’d like to see her. I want to be there. For the funeral.”There was a pause on the other end of the line. “I’ll send it to this number,” the person said.Arya nodded, even though they couldn’t see her. “Thank you.”Then the call ended. The screen went dark. But Arya still didn’t move. She stayed there for another few seconds, frozen in place. Then slowly, she lowered the phone and turned around. She walked back into the house, quiet, her s

"Would you turn it down if you were me?" Arya replied raising her brows. She looked calm and unbothered, cocking her head to the left. Belle didn’t say anything back. She stared at Arya for a moment, her jaw tight like she was holding something back. Then she looked away, clearly annoyed or upset.Arya saw that and let a small, knowing smile appear on her face.“Yeah. That’s what I thought,” she said. The room went completely silent after that, and in order to reduce the simmering tension in the room, Hernandez who noticed how awkward everything had becoke decided to talk, trying to lighten the mood. He spoke in a casual tone, like he was trying to act like everything was normal. “Hey, maybe Juan should let Arya stop by the bar or something,” he said. “Some lady even came looking for her a few weeks ago.”As soon as Arya heard that, she turned her head fast. Her eyes got wide with surprise. She looked directly at Juan, hope and energy suddenly back in her voice.“See? I told you some

  • The Mafia's Angel   Chapter 56: A Tense Breakfast

Rolling her eyes, Arya walked out of the kitchen and to the dining table. Belle was seated there already, doing something on her phone. The moment she noticed Arya's presence, she rolled eyes. Ignoring Belle, she took a seat and then furrowed her brows in confusion when maids began to serve up food. Just then Juan walked into the dining."There's more than one kitchen," he said to Arya, noticing her confusion.Breakfast began shortly in s blur, the only thing anyone could hear was the soft sound of knives and forks tapping against plates. Nobody was talking. Nobody was even looking at each other. The eggs on the plates were starting to get cold after a while of being served but it didn’t seem like anyone cared.Juan sat at the end of the long table, drinking from a small cup of coffee. It was his second that day. He looked calm, like he had no reason to rush or speak. Arya was seated somewhere in the middle. She wasn’t really eating—just using her knife to push a piece of toast aroun

Arya lay in bed, unmoving. Her body ached and felt stiff- as if it did not belong to her. Something inside her had gotten up and left and she had missed it. She stared at the ceiling, allowing her mind to do the thinking she did not want to do.The room was warm. The blanket was pulled up to her shoulders. And yet, she felt cold. Not at her skin. But all the way deep inside; the cold was sharp, mean, and hard to get rid of.She did not want to think about Juan. She did not want to remember how he had said her name or how he had looked at her sitting on the other side of the dining. his eyes searching her and reading her like she was important, like he could not let her go. She did not want to hear his voice in her head but it just kept showing up anyway. That voice- the strong, gentle voice, that voice was deep and warm and made her nervous. And every time she closed her eyes, she saw him. Just standing in the back of her head like he belonged there. Waiting for her to stop pretendin

Arya blinked once and then she blinked again because she was trying to ground herself in the silence that filled the space between ghem. The sound of her name in his voice was still bouncing around in her chest like it had nowhere else to go.“Go to bed,” he said again in a gentler voice this time. He didn't trust himself anymore around her and the last thing he wanted to happen was for something to happen in the moment that she— Arya will regret. He knew for a fact he'd never regret whatever happened but Arya would even if she had wanted it because everything was too sudden for her. A part of him even wondered if she had regretted that kiss. He could not say for certain, but he wished she had not and that was the exact reason he needed her to leave. She could end up regretting anything with him.Arya on the other hand knew she should listen except she wanted to start a fire she wasn’t ready to finish but still, she didn’t move. Arya wanted to scream her lungs out at him. She wanted to yell so loud until the windows cracked and throw anything withing reach. She didn't care if it was a glass or chair. As long as it was going to hit him hard and chase damage . Her chest was full of unbridled anger that was pushing against her ribs like it was trying to escape. Her hands felt shaky, not from fear but from how hard she was trying not to explode. Every part of her wanted to fight him, to tell him to leave, to never come back. She didn’t want to be near him. She didn’t want to hear his voice. And yet, somehow, she also wanted him to stay. That made her even angrier. But she didn’t yell, throw anything or push him out of the room.. She just stood up slowly and carefully. It was almost like her body was moving without her permission. Her legs felt heavy. Her chest still ached. Her pride screamed at her to stay seated. But her heart whispered something else. And so, without saying a word, she turned and followed him.

It wasn't up to a minute before Juan received a call. He sighed, annoyed by the buzz against his skin from where his phone lay in his pocket. Bringing it out, he squinted at the screen and then clenched his fingers. "Dominic, what the fuck do you want?" Juan said, swiping the ID up and bringing the phone to his ear. "Marco Bellini is dead.""I'm aware," Juan replied, his jaw tightening in anger. His brows then knitted in confusion. How many minutes had it been and how did Dominic know in such short time."I can almost see the wheels turning in your head Juan," Dominic laughed and the sighed. "I had men looking into him, that's how I knew.""And how does this have to do with me?" Juan asked. "Do you know what his death means?" Dominic asked. Juan knew, but he decided to know what Dominic was thinking. "They didn't want him talking?""Marco knew who sent him. He knows the face—.Look at the other men you've caught. He didn't find a way to kill them because they don't know who he is,"

Juan let out a breath he did not realize he was holding once Dominic was out. He was angry that Dominic would even suggest trading Arya off. Even though he knew Dominic could be useful to him. He was not about to take chances with the person that had betrayed him once before. Juan walked away from the living room and went to the backdoor of the house. He stepped out onto the lawn and let the warm air brush against his face. The breeze was soft and light, carrying the smell of sun-dried leaves and flowers that were beginning to wilt. Everything around him was still. The trees swayed gently, and the bushes lining the path stood tall and trimmed, but none of it helped settle the feeling in his chest. He looked around slowly, his eyes scanning every corner of the garden. First, he looked at the stone benches near the fountain—empty. Then his eyes followed the narrow dirt path that went between the hedges and led all the way to the back gate. Still, there was no one there. No sign of her

  • The Mafia's Angel   Chapter 50: Kill For Her

"Oh, I will kill for her, I will die for her, I will burn the whole world if I have to for her," Juan responded."For a woman you barely know?" Dominic laughed. "A woman who sees you as a monster? A woman who doesn't love you?""I will get to know her, and she will get to know me Dominic, who can resist me?" Juan asked, with a raise of his brows. Dominic laughed, while shaking his head..Juan didn’t drop his smirk, not even a little. He took one slow step back from Dominic, keeping his eyes on him the whole time. His hand moved to his collar, where he adjusted it calmly, brushing it like there was something on it he didn’t like—maybe dust.“You’ve said what you needed to say,” Juan told him, his voice cool but firm. “Now leave. Before I decide to throw you out myself.”Dominic let out anogher short laugh. It was dry, not the kind that came from humor. It didn’t feel friendly. It was the kind of laugh someone gives when they think they know something you don’t.“You haven’t changed,”
