Chapter 85"Here child, make sure you finish everything." Martha smiled, placing the tray of food on the dining table. It was now nightfall, a time to eat and Annah who had refused to comb her hair stared lazily. Russo had assured Martha and Connor that it was just the after effect of the tranquilizer and that it was nothing serious but still, Connor had become increasingly worried because he thought that it wouldn't pass. He had never seen Annah look this funny before and deep down, he really hoped that this episode she was going through passed on time."Thank you Martha," Annah smiled. She took a spoonful of the soup and immediately, her taste buds began dancing. She wolfed down her food hungrily while the other continued to watch, a small smile on Connor's face."Slow down babe," Connor chuckled, placing a hand on her's."Have you tasted yours? It's freaking delicious." Annah laughed."Yes, that's Martha's specialty and I can guarantee that in no time, you will be perfectly alright
Chapter 86Annah walked out of the house and towards the back area that faced the large expanse of water that overlooked the mansion. She had noticed that this was her favorite place in the whole house, a place she could come and think in peace without getting troubled. She remembered the last time she had been here, that day had seemed like a long time ago when in reality, it was only a few weeks."Come home to me soon son," Annah sighed. There was so much she wanted to do, so much she wanted to say but she didn't want to jinx it. Her son was what mattered to her the most and she couldn't wait to hold him in her arms and sing to him because she missed him. She made her way towards the large chair facing the sea as she took a seat, allowing the wind to blow her hair and touch her face. In this moment, she felt very intimate with the wind like it was a part of her. The soft gentle caress of the wind on her face comforted her, a silent whisper to her that her child would be found, safe
Chapter 87The weekend soon arrived and Leonard and Russo knew that it was time to set the ball rolling and to get started on their plan and the first thing to do was to have the meeting with Orlando. Hopes and tension were high within the mansion as everyone knew that it was based on the outcome of this meeting that would determine whether they would declare war on Michael or not.Within his large room, Connor paced, thinking about what he was about to do and how he was going to present his case to Orlando. For this reason, he had been up all night and he knew that he couldn't afford to fail the people who looked up to him in this case most especially Annah who had been very miserable these past few weeks."I just need my son back," he sighed, slumping on the bed.He placed his head on his hands, thinking about everything that had happened within the past few weeks and he just knew that he needed to get on with this before it was too late. If there was one thing he knew about Michael
Chapter 88As a precautionary measure, Connor had ordered that five of his men move to the secret place he and Russo were to meet with Orlando. They were to go in an unmarked car and take strategic positions around the area just in case something else happened. He couldn't put it past Michael not to do something funny knowing fully well that the bastard had agents all over the place and he could easily get information from these people. Michael practically owned more than half of the town and he controlled most resources and so, Connor knew that since he was going against someone like him, he needed to pull out all the guns.Half an hour later, on the outskirts of town, they got to an old abandoned warehouse that was ugly and all shades of mysterious. Connor had done a little research on it and he realized that it belonged to an old timber man who was now dead and his son who should have managed it had abandoned it. It was the perfect place for their meeting, the perfect spot and Conn
Chapter 89Back at the mansion, Annah was in her room when she heard a knock on her door. She wasn't expecting anyone but in this house, she had come to realize that she didn't need to expect anyone before she had visitors"Come in," she said.A second later, Connor walked in with a small smile on his face and a pack of her favorite chocolate cupcakes which were freshly baked and straight from the oven."Oh, it's you." Annah said. There was no look in her eyes that could tell Connor whether she was happy or she was angry to see him. He placed the box of cupcakes on the table beside her bed, standing near the door. He didn't know what mood she was in and the last thing he wanted was to encroach in her privacy if she didn't want anyone around her."I just thought to bring you those since you like them," he smiled.Annah stared at him and she couldn't help but see the stress lines in his eyes. There was just something about him in that moment that saddened her and she knew that she wasn'
Chapter 90It was later at night that Connor finally woke up after what seemed like hours of sleep. He sighed, glancing at the clock and he realized that it was just heading towards midnight. The cupcakes they had eaten were on the table which remained, the last one they had been too tired to eat. Connor smiled at the memory and he loved it because this was the first time they had talked wholeheartedly without any grudge or fights or arguments and he was grateful for that.He looked down at Annah sleeping beside him and he couldn't believe how peaceful she was. There was this serenity around her that he loved and with her, he found the peace he thought he would never find. There was just so much about her that he loved and he knew that never again will he try to offend her and talk bad about her. She had gone through a lot already and the last thing he wanted to do was to give her additional stress. Connor kissed the top of her head, an act of care and love that she knew she deserved.
Chapter 91The following day, Annah woke up to find the bed empty. She knew that Connor must have gone somewhere in the middle of the night but she wasn't annoyed by it. As a matter of fact, she liked that he was putting a lot of effort into their relationship which was something she found admirable. It was one thing to be loved by someone but when they made an effort to stay with you and to grow with you, it was a beautiful thing. She yawned, rising to her feet as she made her way towards the bathroom to do her toilet business. As soon as she was done there, she went back to the room, tying her robe around her before finally leaving the room. As soon as she stepped out, she noticed something immediately. The mansion was silent. It was silent before but what she was hearing now was an unnatural silence, one that just told her that something was going wrong. None of Connor's men were around which just sent alarm bells ringing her ears."Where could everyone have gone to?" she murmured.
Chapter 92The night had been long, filled with tension and fear as Connor's mansion had become the main point of a relentless series of attacks. It was clear that staying there was no longer an option. With his heart pounding, Connor gathered the people that meant so much to him- Annah, Russo and Martha. They were the people that mattered to him the most and he would rather die than to see any of them get hurt. There were the ones that meant so much to him and without them, Connor knew that he wouldn't have been able to survive."We need to leave tonight," he said. They had expected him to say this but hearing this from him now put so much fear in their hearts because they didn't know what to expect at all. It was one thing to be safe but when you were constantly on the move as a result of threats to your life, it was another ballgame entirely."I can't believe this is happening," Martha sighed. She was better now though her hand was still stitched, she was able to recover very fast
