Chapter 89Back at the mansion, Annah was in her room when she heard a knock on her door. She wasn't expecting anyone but in this house, she had come to realize that she didn't need to expect anyone before she had visitors"Come in," she said.A second later, Connor walked in with a small smile on his face and a pack of her favorite chocolate cupcakes which were freshly baked and straight from the oven."Oh, it's you." Annah said. There was no look in her eyes that could tell Connor whether she was happy or she was angry to see him. He placed the box of cupcakes on the table beside her bed, standing near the door. He didn't know what mood she was in and the last thing he wanted was to encroach in her privacy if she didn't want anyone around her."I just thought to bring you those since you like them," he smiled.Annah stared at him and she couldn't help but see the stress lines in his eyes. There was just something about him in that moment that saddened her and she knew that she wasn'
Chapter 90It was later at night that Connor finally woke up after what seemed like hours of sleep. He sighed, glancing at the clock and he realized that it was just heading towards midnight. The cupcakes they had eaten were on the table which remained, the last one they had been too tired to eat. Connor smiled at the memory and he loved it because this was the first time they had talked wholeheartedly without any grudge or fights or arguments and he was grateful for that.He looked down at Annah sleeping beside him and he couldn't believe how peaceful she was. There was this serenity around her that he loved and with her, he found the peace he thought he would never find. There was just so much about her that he loved and he knew that never again will he try to offend her and talk bad about her. She had gone through a lot already and the last thing he wanted to do was to give her additional stress. Connor kissed the top of her head, an act of care and love that she knew she deserved.
Chapter 91The following day, Annah woke up to find the bed empty. She knew that Connor must have gone somewhere in the middle of the night but she wasn't annoyed by it. As a matter of fact, she liked that he was putting a lot of effort into their relationship which was something she found admirable. It was one thing to be loved by someone but when they made an effort to stay with you and to grow with you, it was a beautiful thing. She yawned, rising to her feet as she made her way towards the bathroom to do her toilet business. As soon as she was done there, she went back to the room, tying her robe around her before finally leaving the room. As soon as she stepped out, she noticed something immediately. The mansion was silent. It was silent before but what she was hearing now was an unnatural silence, one that just told her that something was going wrong. None of Connor's men were around which just sent alarm bells ringing her ears."Where could everyone have gone to?" she murmured.
Chapter 92The night had been long, filled with tension and fear as Connor's mansion had become the main point of a relentless series of attacks. It was clear that staying there was no longer an option. With his heart pounding, Connor gathered the people that meant so much to him- Annah, Russo and Martha. They were the people that mattered to him the most and he would rather die than to see any of them get hurt. There were the ones that meant so much to him and without them, Connor knew that he wouldn't have been able to survive."We need to leave tonight," he said. They had expected him to say this but hearing this from him now put so much fear in their hearts because they didn't know what to expect at all. It was one thing to be safe but when you were constantly on the move as a result of threats to your life, it was another ballgame entirely."I can't believe this is happening," Martha sighed. She was better now though her hand was still stitched, she was able to recover very fast
Chapter 93Connor and Annah had finally arrived at the safehouse, a quiet haven nestled deep within a lush forest. The hideaway had become a necessity, a refuge from the constant threats and attacks that had been happening to them at Connor's mansion. As they stepped inside the cozy cabin, Annah's eyes widened in surprise. "Wow, Connor, this place is beautiful!" she exclaimed, taking in the warm, fresh interior with its wooden beams and stone fireplace.Connor chuckled, his arm slipping around her waist, drawing her close to him. "Well, I had to make sure it was at least as nice as the mansion," he quipped, his tone playful. "How else would I impress you?"Annah playfully rolled her eyes, leaning into Connor's embrace. "Impress me, huh? You must be pretty rich to afford all this."Connor couldn't help but laugh at her teasing. "I might have a few tricks up my sleeve," he admitted, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "But it's not about the money, Annah. It's about keeping you safe."S
Chapter 94"She's asleep," Connor said.Russo looked up from what he was reading and nodded his head. He was quite happy that Martha was doing alright even though he had gotten the shock of his life when he saw that state she was in. Never in his life could he ever have believed that she would be in that situation because as far as he was concerned, Connor's house was the safest place he knew. There were many things he was confused about, many things he didn't like but he couldn't complain because at the end of it all, all of them were safe which was the most important thing."Thank goodness." he sighed, pulling off his glasses. He placed it on the table, rubbing his eyes in tiredness. He had been through a lot these past few days and what he really wanted was rest and long hours of sleep. He wouldn't stop though because everything he was doing and had done was because he loved them. They were like a family to him, one in which he would never leave even though he might pass through so
Chapter 95"We are invading Michael's mansion tomorrow night." Connor said.He was addressing his men in the large hall within the safe house. He knew he had put it off for too long and now, it was time to go in and rescue his son. Thankfully, Orlando had been keeping a good eye on his son and so far, he had reported that not one harm had befallen him. Funny enough, Michael took care of him, ensuring that he was bathed and fed regularly as at when due by an experienced nurse.Connor found it hard to believe but when Orlando managed to take a few pictures then send it to him, Connor realized that he was telling the truth. His son was looking radiant and when Annah saw him, she burst into tears because she realized that he looked so much like Connor but he took her eyes."As you know, we've been able to get a secure contact with a man who lives in the mansion. This man will be very instrumental to the attack but I must warn you." He remained silent for several seconds, staring into the
Chapter 96"They've gone?" Annah asked.Connor walked into his room to see her laying on the large couch, looking through a magazine that had been on his table for weeks now. It was an old edition of the magazine and he wondered what she saw in it to be reading it but he realized that she was just using it to kill time and secondly because she didn't want to feel very anxious. He could tell that she was very agitated because she didn't know the outcome of the men saving their son and he knew that he had to help her forget that anxiety that seemed to hold her down."Not yet, babe, but very soon," he said. They stayed in comfortable silence for a while with her reading the magazine and hoping that she didn't burst out crying because her emotions were already at an all time high. It was one thing to be hopeful but when you were agitated about that particular thing and you didn't know whether it would turn out well, it was another ballgame entirely. That was the situation they found thems
CHAPTER 183Connor stared at the reflection in the Mirror. The white suit looked spectacular on him. He couldn't help but notice how much he had changed since Annah walked into his life. His eyes seemed to be lighter. He smiled more often and that was a long way from when he used to think that smiling was an exercise. Well, till Annah came in and changed her. He smiled at the thought. She was worth his every smile. Only the thought of her made him feel alive inside and she couldn't wait to spend the rest of his life with her. The door creaked open as Hans, Russo and Marcus walked in. He caught the teasing glint in their eyes and tried not to smile. "How do you feel?" Hans said "How the hell do you think he's supposed to feel? It's his wedding"Russo drawled. Connor almost rolled his eyes. Considering the fact that he didn't like to associate with many people, he considered them friends. Admitting it to himself made him cringe. "I know you can't wait to see her," Hans teased. "Ju
CHAPTER 182Annah felt overwhelmed and slightly shaken from what happened earlier. She couldn't believe that Micheal had attempted to take her away from the love of her life and from her future son. She felt overwhelmed and heavy with exhaustion but at same time she also felt relieved that at least Connor and her son were okay. She wouldn't have had it any other way. She winced as Connor swiped the soaked cotton wool across her bruise tenderly. There was a sort of tension that radiated from him so it didn't take too long to figure out that he wasn't fine. He was more focused on her bruise than at looking at her."You can talk to me. There's no need to keep your emotions away from me Connor" she placed a hand over his arm. "You were about to be hurt, Annah. Micheal was about to take you away from me" he growled lowly and ran a face over his hand in frustration. Annah knew she shouldn't feel relieved at someone's death but she couldn't help it. Micheal wasn't around to torment them any
CHAPTER 181Annah felt drowsy as she woke up. Her head was spinning and the pounding in her head heightened with each movement she made. Her eyes raked over her environment and the panic began to build in her chest. All she could remember was that she had been walking with that new guard and she'd been trying to make conversation. He had abruptly given her an apologetic look before she had blanked out. She could tell from her drowsiness that she'd been heavily drugged. She looked up at the window in the room. It looked like something like a dark cellar. Alarmed, she decided to call out for help and was met with instant silence entirely. Her mind drifted to her son, to Connor. What if they weren't safe as well, anxiety gave way to full on panic and she lunged up immediately and headed towards the bar of the cellar, she tried to shake it open but it remained unmoving under her grip. Nobody was outside, from the looks of it, it seemed like she would be the only one here."Help. Anyone
CHAPTER 180Annah felt off and very conflicted. There was obviously something that Connor was not telling her. She didn't know what it was but for him to act so distant, for her to be able to sense his anxiety, it was definitely enough to set him on edge. Martha played with her son and she stared at the empty space, lost in thought. She tried to calm her racing nerves but was unable to. Martha sneaked a curious glance at her. She wondered what it could be that distracted Annah so much. Whatever it was, it must be something enough to set her on edge. Annah son was occupied with drawing on paper. The little boy has taken such a liking to art that it amazed both Annah and Martha. He was able to come up with creative things and each time Annah or Martha came across his art. It rendered both of them breathless. "Are you okay Annah, you've been staring for hours" Martha said as she looked at Annah worriedly, her face etched in concern. "I'm just worried about Connor. He's been behaving
CHAPTER 179Something was wrong. Annah could sense it from Connor as they sat at the dinner table. He was occupied with cutting his son's food into smaller pieces. Everytime she tried to ask him if he was ok. He would assure her that he was and then would back it up with a smile that wasn't in the least bit convincing. She knew when he was trying to suppress his emotions, she knew when he was trying to keep what he was feeling away from her, all because he didn't want to dampen her mood. She noted the way his shoulders were a bit tight with tension, she noted the muscles in his jaw. She considered trying to get him to admit what was bothering him, but not here. Not at the dinner table. There were maids still serving platters of food that they couldn't even quite finish. She had tried to convince him of the fact that having a near buffet for dinner wasn't always necessary. But he wouldn't listen. He's always insistent in spoiling her and thier son. Hans hanged around the dinner table
CHAPTER 178Connor felt bothered as he stared at fge screen. Hans stood beside him, his face impassive but he knew Hans was just as worried as he was. They had been unable to get a clear view of the intruder's face. All that they got was the exact detail of his build. It was almost as if the intruder was very conscious about the camera. Apparently, he was smarter than Connor gave him credit for. Hans and Connor exchanged worried glances. It was hard to miss the pasty white shade of Hans knuckles. Connor was on edge, he could feel the anxiety eating him alive from the inside out. It was hard to focus on anything. He was conflicted between flying Annah and his son, preferably to another state and than staying here. At the back of his head, he knew Micheal still found a watch him, Micheal was silently gauging his every move, making plans on the move he would make next. This wasn't something that Connor could rush. This wasn't a decision that Connor could just hastily commence."How do
CHAPTER 177Annah found it a bit amusing that Hans was insistent on escorting her to the library despite the amount of times she had politely declined. She wondered if the guards following closely behind them were not enough to assure him and Connor that she was perfectly and completely safe. Yet they were insistent on not taking chances. Between Connor and Hans. She didn't know who was more stubborn. Perhaps that was why Connor decided that he was the perfect fit for chief head of security. he was the sort of person that knew how to make decisions for the well being of the people that he protected. Despite the stoic facade that Hans put on Infront of people. Annah knew that he was a man that had compassion and had Connor's best interest at heart. He would do anything to see Connor happy and would do everything possible to ensure he was safe and away from threat. She noticed Hans seemed a little on edge. She wanted to inquire the reason for his mood but decided against it. It was pr
CHAPTER 176The night felt fulfilling as Annah and Connor returned back to the bedroom. Annah had watched with a small smile on her face as Connor has read thier son bedtime stories and yet she couldn't ignore the unease that clawed at the walls of her stomach. Everything seemed to be going ok. E everything seemed to be good. She wondered how long it was going to last until something else occurred again. When they returned to the privacy of thier bedroom, Connor gently slammed her against the wall, capturing her lips between his within the space of a heartbeat. From the urgency he used to kiss her, it was obvious that he had been thinking about her all day, just as much as she's been thinking about him. The thought made her smile into the kiss as she slid her hands up his chest to wrap her hands around his neck. "I missed you today" Connor whispered softly, the blood rushing immediately to his groin at the thought that he'd have the luxury of exploring her all over. "I missed you
CHAPTER 175"You're back to the office so early?" Connor snapped his head towards the direction of the hallway. Russo casually leaned against the wall, a look of amazement and worry on his face. it seemed he wasn't going to approve of Connor's immediate return either. Russo eyes ran over Connor quickly, almost as if he was looking for an injuri which were now invisible. The recovering injuries were buried beneath Connor's suit. "Didn't Bruno give you strict instructions to rest?" Russo raised an eyebrow in question. If there's anything he was painfully aware of, it was how stubborn Connor was. He never backed down easily. Russo wasn't sure he knew what the definition of rest was. Connor had always been one to work hard. He liked getting things done by himself even if he knew he had hundreds of people at his beck and call. "I don't work for Bruno, Russo. You know that." Connor said dryly. His gaze returned to the papers that were scattered across the table. Russo took the liberty o
