' WHAT? ' I cried, jolted out of my annoyance and worry, and then remembered my children. I did not want to upset them further.

‘Schwarz sighed again and he rubbed his jaw

‘The Boss,’ he said, hiding a yawn as he spoke,’ The Boss felt it would be best if you all were away from here for a while.’

And as I began to protest, he went on hastily,

‘Proserpina, it was his idea and I support him completely in this.’

I glared at him, fury, dismay, and anxiety warring in my heart.

Lucien Delano was trying to keep us safe.

I could respect that.

But did he need to keep us all away from him for that? Keep ME away?

I NEEDED that man beside me.

We had had a similar situation when I was carrying Claude. He had drifted away, gone to every woman possible and it had nearly devastated me.
