He stared, transfixed as his wife gently opened her robe, her eyes lovingly fixed on the little mite’s face. As she brought her large teat to the little one’s mouth, there was a change in him. He all but whimpered as he took her nipple in his mouth and began to suck greedily.

Proserpina laughed; a breathless sound that caught in her throat and she looked across at him. The tender expression on his usually harsh face caught her unawares and she smiled, her dimples appearing. Even with her yellowing, fading bruise and her cut lip and haggard look after her dreadful experience, in Lucien’s eyes, she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

He knew that he wanted to hold her in his arms and keep her beside him forever.
