Alora's POV

I had had enough of Bianca threatening me like she was some queen. I was my own person, and she had no right to talk to me like I stole her treasure. I walked into my room and slammed the door hard behind me.

Just as I headed to the bed to rest and think about what Dante had said during breakfast, a knock sounded on the door. I groaned, covering my ears with the pillow, but the knock didn't stop. I sluggishly walked to the door. “Gianni, I swear if you don't–”

Luca's smiling face greeted me from outside. Oh, it's not Gianni, then. “Hello, Alora. Can I ask you something?”

“Uhh, sure,” I replied, staring at him skeptically. What exactly does he want to ask me? My heart thudded with anxiety.

“Would you like to go out with me this afternoon? Just for a stroll in the garden. I want us to be friends, if you wish.”

I furrowed my brows. Friends? Okay then. “Okay… but let me get a scarf. It's really cold outside.”

“Sure, go right ahead. I'll be waiting for you in the living room,” he said, smiling brightly before turning to leave.

I quickly pulled on a blue scarf, which the maids must have brought to my room during breakfast. When I reached the living room, my eyes widened at the sight of Dante sitting cross-legged on the couch, his head buried in his phone.

After our almost kiss, it was really awkward for me to be around him. I felt a nervous flutter of butterflies anytime I thought about it. My plan was to walk out quietly without him noticing, but he quickly lifted his eyes from his phone and locked them onto me. My face flushed bright red, and I looked at the floor, trying to avoid his intense gaze.

“Hey, sorry I'm late.” Luca's voice startled me, and I jumped. I turned to look at him. He was dressed in dark blue jeans and a white t-shirt that hugged his body tightly and showed all his muscles. His eyebrows were raised as he looked at me. “Are you okay? You look nervous.”

“Oh, I'm fine,” I replied hurriedly. “Can we go now?” I asked, wanting to leave Dante's intimidating presence as soon as possible.

Luca looked at me weirdly before nodding. He held out his arm, and I placed my hand in his. We walked out without looking back, although I could feel eyes boring holes into the back of my head.

During our walk, I discovered that Luca was actually a cool guy to hang out with. He made jokes and was really interesting. Unfortunately, time cut us short as I had to go back and care for Gianni's injury. He was getting better, and we would soon take off his stitches.

When I walked into the room, Gianni jumped up from the couch and rushed to me, his expression frantic. I wanted to shout at him for jumping when he wasn't completely sound yet, but the scared look on his face made me worried instead.

“Alora, something is wrong. My gut keeps telling me something is about to go wrong in this house.”

“What do you mean, Gianni?” I asked, my face contorted in a worried frown.

He ran a hand through his mop of black hair. “I always have some sort of bad feeling when something's about to go wrong. Most of the time, it's accurate. Like the day I got attacked. I could feel that something was about to happen.”

I didn't know what to say, so I kept quiet. Gianni sighed and then said, “I'm sure it's nothing. Maybe it's just because I'm hungry.”

I knew he was just trying to make me less worried about what could be happening. But I didn't argue, since I was supposed to ease his stress. “Fine, let's go eat something and then change your dressing.”

He groaned, making me laugh. His annoyed gaze reached me, and I laughed harder. He was so cute. I held out my hand for him, but he ignored me. He just walked past and went out the door. I followed closely, still chuckling.

However, all hints of amusement escaped me as we reached downstairs. The house was in total chaos, with chairs and tables flipped upside down and papers scattered across the room. Mafia men stood lined up in front of Dante and Luca.

Dante's face was red with fury as he walked around the room purposefully, standing in front of each man and whispering something that made them gulp. What was going on? This looked like an interrogation.

Gianni walked forward while I remained standing cowardly by the door. The moment Dante saw him, his face loosened up a bit. He still looked dangerous, but Gianni didn't seem to care. And why would he? Dante was his brother. After talking in hushed tones with him, Gianni returned to my side.

He now held out his hand, and I placed my shaky hand in his. He squeezed gently, as if reassuring me that all was fine. Once we were a safe distance from Dante and the mafia chaos, I turned to Gianni. “What is going on there? Dante looked furious.”

He smiled faintly. “It's nothing for you to be worried about, Alora. Just that someone stole some mafia documents and jewelry worth 25 million.”

My mouth dropped open. What? Who would be so stupid as to steal from a mafia? Were they crazy or did they have a death wish? “Have they found the culprit yet? What would Dante do to him?” I asked in a shaky voice.

Gianni laughed, and for a second, I felt like the laugh had a sinister edge to it. But Gianni was a kid. I was just being paranoid. “Well, whoever thought it was wise to steal from the Don's office should prepare to reunite with the mud he came from.”

His words came out cold, making me shiver as a chill ran down my spine. How was this child seven years old?

Gianni must have noticed my worried state because he quickly added, “Dante will just punish them as long as they're willing to pay for what they've stolen.”

I understood what he was trying to do. He was the child here, not me. He was trying to cover up what would really happen when they caught this person. God, why was I wishing they didn't? It was just money, right? Nobody had to die for it.

After that discussion, we changed the topic. Neither of us revisited that scary topic. But my mind kept running back to it. I tried to stay focused so Gianni wouldn't notice I was worried.

Later in the evening, we went down for dinner. The house was no longer a chaotic mess but had been thoroughly cleaned and looked sparkling. Nobody who hadn't seen it this morning would believe if they were told.

We greeted Dante and Luca, who sat at the head of the table, and took our seats.

Gianni broke the silence once we started eating. “Hey, brother, any update?” I froze, my ears straining so I wouldn't miss any words spoken, even though they would be speaking these words in my presence.

“Soon, brother. Soon. The men are searching all the rooms as we speak. Anytime now, and they'll have it here. The person couldn't have gone out with it.”

I gulped as the tension rose in the room. I looked at my food—a delicious plate of pasta and chicken. But it just looked bland now. All this violence had made me lose my appetite. But it seemed like I was the only person who lost their appetite because the two men and one boy continued eating and chatting away happily.

I soon became like Gianni, having a terrible feeling tug at my chest. Something was about to go really wrong. But what could it be?

My question was answered immediately as the doors slammed open, making me jump. Dante's men marched in, their heavy footsteps pounding against the floor. In the hands of one of them, something shone so bright, glinting under the light.

It was jewelry. They had found it. Oh my goodness. An innocent person could die.

“Boss!” the man carrying it said, laying it gently before Dante.

His lips curled slowly into a menacing smirk as he nodded his head. “Good job, guys. Now, where was it?”

The room fell into a thick silence as everyone waited for the man's response. He gulped noticeably before lifting his hands slightly and pointing towards the thief.

My breath hitched in my throat, my eyes widening as his hand landed on me.

“Miss Alora, boss. She's the thief.”

My pulse quickened. “What are you talking about?" This had to be some kind of prank, right? "Gianni, come on, you should’ve told me that the Mafia pulled these kinds of stunts on new people. This is serious! You all shouldn't mess with people's lives like this.” I laughed nervously, but my voice faltered when I realized no one else was laughing. This couldn't be real. I haven't even seen the closet yet. I don't even have dresses yet.”Luca's

Alora's POVI sank down to the floor, crying, my head dropping as despair took hold. Who would plant such evidence against me? I hadn’t even been here for 48 hours, and things like this were already happening to me. Was this how life was going to be from now on? Maybe I should have just refused to stay here and gone out into the dangerous world outside. But deep down, I knew that wasn’t an option—I had already involved myself too deeply to try backing out now.“Alora,” Gianni’s soft voice sounded as he approached, his footsteps barely audible. “Are you okay? Oh my God, what did Dante do to you?” He knelt down beside me, his expression one of worry. “I’m going to go find him right now and give him a piece of my mind. He hurt you, didn’t he?”I wiped my eyes quickly and tried to smile. “I’m fine, Gianni. Really. You have nothing to worry about.”“Alora, you don’t have to pretend,” he insisted, his voice filled with concern. “Dante said or did something to you, didn’t he?”“Gianni, it’s

Alora's POVUnfortunately for me, Bianca began pacing, muttering under her breath, “No… they couldn’t have just left this here. I was here earlier, and this phone wasn’t here… I think someone’s here.”Feeling trapped, I looked around frantically. The restroom was my only option, but I knew it would be the first place she’d search. Left with no other choice, I took a deep breath, stepped out, and pretended I’d just come in, unaware of her presence. I “accidentally” bumped into her, letting my expression shift to surprise.“Bianca? What are you doing here? It’s late, and there aren’t any patients tonight.”She narrowed her eyes, a mocking smile playing on her lips. “Alora, I should have known. What are you doing here? Snooping around, trying to plant poison or who knows what else?”I frowned, holding my ground. “Bianca, you know I didn’t do any of that. You stole that evidence and planted it in my room.”She gasped, feigning shock. “What? How dare you accuse me of something so vile, Alo

"I took you in to save your life, but you’re making me rethink my decision. Please, tell me why you’re doing this.""Dante, I didn’t do anything wrong," I said, my voice trembling. "I don’t know why you keep blaming me. I’m innocent. Bianca is the one attacking me for no reason."Dante gripped his hair, then slammed his hand down on the desk, making me jump. What if I don't? I could just scream Dante's name right now. And what would happen?" I said confidently, though my insides were shivering with fear, my nerves on edge at the thought that any moment she could pull the trigger, and I’d be done for."Wow, I see you've grown confident, huh? You don't want to hand it over? Fine, I'll just shoot you, and Dante will come in here. Guess what I'll tell him?" She fiddled with her hair as a smirk stretched across her face. Though I knew it had only been five, maybe ten minutes, it felt like he arrived in the blink of an eye.“What’s going on here?” he asked sharply, his gaze landing on me, his eyes widening. “Heavens. Alora… you again? What have you done this time?”Gianni stepped forward, trying to redirect Dante’s attention from me. “Brother, it’s me.”Dante’s gaze snapped to Gianni, his expression a mixture of disbelief and anger. “What are you doing here, Gianni? I thought I told you this room is off-limits. Go play with your gaming computers. I always knew Luca was a bad influence.”At that moment, Luca entered, muttering, “What have I done now?”Dante turned to him, fuming. “Luca, you’re going to stop teaching my brother how to hack. I’ve told you this life isn’t for him—leave him out of it!”Luca raised his hands in defense. “Hey, I didn’t do anything. The kid and I w

Was this what I had been spending time training in my mafia? With just one hand, I grabbed him by the neck and lifted him up, his feet dangling as he struggled to free himself."Boss, please let me go!" His hoarse voice managed to let out. I was out for blood and so I kept holding on, while landing punches of my own on his abdomen."That's how you punch you stupid fool! You all hit like little girls.""Don," Marco’s gruff voice sounds behind me. "You're going to kill all the men with how frequently you're doing this."I dropped the idiot to the floor. Unless maybe the men who brought her here were the ones working with her. Maybe they let her go somehow."Marco," I barked into the phone. "Get me the men who were supposed to lock Alora up.""Yes, don."In no time at all, the two men were brought in front of me, their hands bound. Marco and Vittoria stood behind me, and the two men, almost completely naked, were tied to the poles. I could see the fear in their eyes."So, men, where is the girl?" I asked coldly."I don't understand, don. What do you mean?" one of them stammered."What do you mean, 'you don’t understand'?" I snapped, my voice low with anger. "Where is Alora? They probably don’t even realize we know about this one, which makes it their most secure location for now.""Perfect," I muttered, studying the map in front of us. "We’ll attack from here, push through to this side, and surround these areas. Once we do, we’ll find them, explode the area, and get out. Isn’t that... like, what proof do you have?” I asked, my confusion evident.“Well, it’s a long story,” he replied. “But I have proof, okay? And I think if Uncle Luca is as wise as he claims, he should have noticed it somewhere in the house by now. I kept it in his room so it would be safer there. Since he and Bianca hate each other’s guts, there’s no way she can get into his room.”My eyes widened. “Wait, you mean you really do have proof?”“Yes, I do have proof, Alora. Trust me, in less than no time, Bianca will be out of Dante’s—and our—lives for good. Then you and Dante can start your lovey-dovey acts.”“Gianni!” I shouted, making

I had taken turn after turn, as he had directed me, telling me where to avoid going and which paths to take.He must have planted cameras everywhere, enough to tell me how to escape. I had copied all his instructions on a piece of paper, including what I was to do if someone started following me.When I got out, there was a black car waiting. A big, burly man stepped out and gestured for me to get inside.I climbed into the car, trying to ask questions, but the man didn’t answer any of them. Dante's POV I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, glancing briefly at Marco, who was seated across from me. There was something off about all that had been happening these days, something I couldn’t put my finger on. I felt restless and uneasy, especially as I couldn't figure out anything. What was wrong with Alora? I couldn’t shake the feeling that something terrible had happened. "Luca, what happened to Alora?" I asked, trying to keep my voice calm, although my heart was thumping wildly in my chest. He sighed heavily, as though he could sense my impatience. "Listen, I know what you're thinking. But you’ve got to understand me. I was only going to see how she was doing." A frown crept its way to my face. "Luca, didn’t I say you shouldn't go to Alora's room? Why don't you ever listen?" "I know you said to stay away from her, but you can’t blame me for wanting to check on her. She’s my friend, Dante," he emphasized. I sighed, pinching the tip of my nose. "Just get to the poi

Alora's POVDante’s carefree attitude about Gianni’s kidnapping didn’t sit well with me. Could it be a prank? Was it possible he had done it just to trap me? I shook my head. No, it looked real. Nobody would hurt a little kid—their own brother—in that manner for a prank.I paced back and forth in my room, my head spinning with confusion and worry. My mind was a mess, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t sit down. My eyes kept darting back to my phone. Could Dante have put some kind of chip on it to monitor my movements? Why would he just return it out of the blue? What was going on? Gianni had been kidnapped, and yet Dante seemed to be acting like it was a normal occurrence. Maybe it was just routine in the mafia world for someone to be taken. After all, I was the only one here who wasn’t used to this lifestyle. To me, it seemed strange and unreal, but maybe that was just how things went in their world.A deep sigh escaped my lips. I just hoped to God that I was wrong—that Giann
