The regulars soon came piling into the shop and ordering their usual coffees before leaving for work, the same smiles we had become accustomed to, and the stories of what child had been doing well filled the once silent shop. But now the lunchtime rush was about to begin where Shane, always finds the time to slip off for his break when this happens. This meant I was left alone to hold the fought whilst orders were thrown at me, but I didn’t know if it was because it was the middle of the week or perhaps the sun was shining a little, we didn’t have nearly the usually amount of people walking in and out. It was a slow day and one I desperately, needed.

I had just finished wiping down one of the coffee machines when the bell on the door rang telling me I had a new customer, but when I turned around to see who had walked in, I find a man completely out of breath. The man wore a black tight-fitting suit, showing off the many rippling muscles in his arms, honestly, it looked as though this man lived at the gym. His skin was tanned whilst his black hair pulled back with hair gel leaving a slick kind of look. His jaw was very sharp and chiseled whilst his eyes were the brightest shade of blue I had ever seen. I can tell you one thing; he was smoking hot.

“Do you have a bathroom?” Is all he asks, his voice holding some kind of foreign accent I had not heard before, whilst placing his hands on the counter but swiftly, turning his head to look out of the huge windows at the front as though he was being followed by someone or something.

“We do.” I reply looking the man up and down attempting to work him out, I have seen some variation of people come in and out of this place, some I wonder how they were people I lived in the same society with, but none had piqued my interest more than this man.

“So, can I use it?” He asks looking up at me as though I was dumb in some way due to me not dropping to my knees and showing this man exactly, where the bathroom was when he had asked.

“Due to policy, you will first need to buy something before I am able to give you the key to the bathroom.” I smile placing my hands on the counter, whilst the man who was still looking back out of the window turns to look at me with a hint of frustration in his face.

“I don’t know what to fucking order, I need to use the bathroom!” He exclaims as though he was attempting to keep his voice down but due to me telling him no and whatever was happening to him in this moment, that task was proving hard for him.

“If you wish to not ruin my life by getting me fired, you are going to have to buy something before I can give you the key to the bathroom, that’s just how it goes.” I tell him not faulting much in my response, I had lost control on many aspects in my life but when it comes to my job, I know what is expected and will not settling for anything less.

I see even more frustration flash his expression as he looks away from me and towards the wall of many items, we had available. But the longer that he would skim, the more confused I saw he became so I knew I needed to step in.

“We have an incredible selection of smoothies that I could make for you, I don’t wish to toot my own horn, but I do this all the time, I have a skill for making the best.” I smile titling my head to the side a little watching him, his eyes soon snap back to me with a nod of his head.

“Fuck whatever, I’ll take that!” He tells me where I just nod reaching under the counter and pulling out the key for the bathroom which was chained to a little pipe of some sort.

“Here is the key for the bathroom, I’ll make your smoothie whilst you’re in there.” I say with another smile handing it over to him, he quickly takes the key from me before rushing quickly through the shop and towards the bathroom. “He must really need the bathroom.” I mutter under my breath before turning to begin to make him my famous strawberry smoothie, pulling the ice out of the box and putting into the mixer that I would need.

In the middle of putting the ice scoop back, that same bell goes off telling me another person had either entered or left where I soon turn around seeing yet another buff man but not in a suit this time looking around the shop as though he was looking for someone. Immediately, I knew this had to do with the man I had just allowed into the bathroom as this man, didn’t scream person who gets his coffee from a coffee shop vibe.

“Hello sir, how may I help you?” I ask turning away from the smoothie for a moment to face the man, where in this moment, I was more than glad that I had a counter separating us.

This man had an evil type of look in his eye, it was clear he didn’t want to be here speaking to me but for whatever reason, had no other choice. He wore a dark brown jacket over a white t-shirt and jeans, he didn’t have any hair but a scar which ran across his eye telling me he’d been in some kind of scuffle some time in his life.

“Did a man walk through here?” He asks his rough but seeming to sound a little uninterested, while I tilt my head to the side a little in a confused manner.

“Many men come through this shop on a daily basis, you’re going to have to be more specific.” I say crossing my arms over my chest as I looked at him, in that moment, I could see the anger which flashed his expression causing me to gulp a little, but I was sure to stand my ground.

“A tall man in a suit.” Was all he says sucking his teeth a little in annoyance, whilst I knew right off the bat, he was speaking about the man in the bathroom, but I wasn’t just going to hand this man what he wanted on a silver platter.

“Look around, there are many men in suits which come into the café in hopes of blending in to make it seem as though they have a purpose in life when in reality, they’d be eating alone at their desks back at work. So again, you’re going to have to be more specific.” I say with a little smile looking this man dead in the eyes, where due to my comment, he knew that I knew who he meant. “Now as you can see, I’m at work and have a job to do, if you are not going to order anything but only stand there sending me death glares, I will polity ask you to leave.” I speak before he had a chance to get a word in edgeways, but now I had raised my voice a little, a few other customers in the café begin to take an interest and look over.

This strange man in front of me soon realises this and scoffs one last time before turning around to the door, throwing it open with such force I worried the cute little bell on top was going to fall off. After watching him walk down the road back where he came from, I released the breath I had been holding in due to the fright of what was happening around me. That man did not seem very nice and only got that much scarier when I didn’t tell him everything that I knew.

Once I had composed myself, I turn back around to the smoothie machine and begin to continue with the other mysterious man’s smoothie who was spending an awfully long time in the bathroom. I reach up to take the lid from the shelve with his straw as he appeared behind me, the key to the bathroom in hand and a smile on his lips, this only adding to how attractive he was in the moment.

“I have your smoothie.” I smile handing him over the pink drink which I had made for him, he takes it with that same smile whilst I grab the key and put it back in its home under the counter.

Once I stand up straight and look over to him, I see shock fill his expression whilst he took his first sip of the drink. I wasn’t just saying I make a great smoothie to big myself up, I have been making these things for so many years and have learnt what ratio of ice, milk and fruit that you need to make it perfect.

“This is delicious.” He tells me staring down at the drink as though it was some kind of jewel that shone in the sky, I only laugh placing my hands from on the counter.

“Thank you, now that will be £7.99.” I smile reminding him that he still had to pay, he nods his head after realising this and places down the drink onto the counter to pull out his wallet.

It was a little hard to ignore the amount of £20 notes I saw in his wallet, but knowing this was none of my business, I look away and keep my eyes to his with a smile so he wouldn’t think I was looking when I shouldn’t. He soon pulls out a 10 and hands it over to me. With smile, I take it and begin to round up his change as he sips even more of the drink in front of him.

“Keep the change, you deserve it.” He says shaking his hand as I went to give him the rest, I nod my head a little with a thank you whilst placing the coins into the front pocket of my apron. “I better get going.” He smiles lifting up half drunken smoothie into the air as a goodbye, where I only smile waving my head at him.

“Have a lovely rest of your day.” I smile watching as he walked through the door and headed in the opposite direction as the bald man did, perhaps that’s for the best.

I stood by the counter a little staring at the place he had once stood; I couldn’t shake the odd feeling that was deep in my gut as I thought about the little but strange encounter I had just shared.

“I’m back, did I miss anything?” Shane asks walking from the back with a smile, whilst my eyes remained on the window shaking my head.

“No, just the normal lunchtime rush.” Is all I reply but unbeknownst to me, that little lunchtime rush was about to change the course of my entire life forever.

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful after those two men left, the normal vibe of the boring coffee shop sinking back to what it was like. But through the normality, I couldn’t help but think of the man I had made the smoothie for, there was just something about him which caught my eye, and that wasn’t his drop-dead gorgeous looks. There was a hint of mystery about him, he has many layers to his life which I can tell not many people get to see or understand. With that being said, the day soon rushed by and before I knew it, I was turning off all of the lights and locking up the doors. With a little sigh, I slip the keys to the café into my purse and begin my short joinery home, the streetlights shining down on me as I went. But now I was out of the shop and the prospect of what I may find when I get home filled my mind, I soon remember what I had told my father when I left this morning, but I had neglected to do so. I had been so busy with the thought of that mysterious man fro

After arriving at work and getting straight to handling the mess some of the openers had left, the thought of my father and where he could be kept pounding my head as I attempted to concentrate. The same question going around and around, if I would have given my father the money that morning, would he have come home? I know I didn’t have the money in my hand at the time but what if I did? Once I had sorted the chaotic mess in the back, I make my way out to the front of the shop looking around as Shane handed a woman her coffee with a smile before turning around to look at me. “What’s on your mind?” He asks crossing his arms over his chest leaning up against the counter, while I snap out of my trance and send him a look of confusion. “I can see it written all over your face Coraline, you’re here but your mind is somewhere else.” He says waving his hands in the air as though they were blowing in the wind, I just send him a little laugh whilst walking to stand behind the counter. “I’m

After weeping all alone at the back of the café for the entirety of my break, I knew I would need to pick myself up and look presentable. Even though each person in that coffee shop had seen the show my drunken father had put on and soon, many others would be told the same tale, I didn’t need people to begin to gossip about me falling apart also. I hadn’t spent countless hours of my life putting on a fake smile and making it seem as though my life was perfect, just for my father to walk in and throw it all down the drain, where most of my tears go when I’m alone. Wiping my eyes from any other stray tears, I hold my head up high and walk back into the shop where my apron still lay on one of the counters at the back. I hadn’t taken much thought when I threw it on that counter, I knew I was about to start crying and didn’t need to do that with any witnesses, even Shane. As like he heard the door open, Shane takes a look in the back and spots me tying my apron around my body. “Are you o

After cleaning the entire café and heading towards the main door, I see the thunderstorm for the first time which had taken over our town, well at least I brought my coat this time! Zipping it up tightly before opening up the door, I was met with the intense cold blast of air and little droplets of rain hitting my face. With a sigh, I walk out the door and pull it closed, which was made difficult with how intense the wind blew in my direction. Once I had forced the key in the lock and secured the door, I pull my coat around myself tighter and begin my journey through the thunderstorm home, my head facing down to the ground in hopes of blocking the wind which stung my eyes from the high intensity. After a moment of walking, I was completely wet through and shivering, perhaps I need to save some money to learn how to drive, being in this situation probably isn’t the best. I was walking down the path past all of the many off licenses and other corner shops, when I feel as though I’m ei

We soon pull up at the side of the road where I send him a smile. “Thank you for taking me home….” I begin to say thanking him but have to pause for a moment, I had sat in his car this entire time and still have no idea what his name was. “Vito, my name is Vito.” He smiled with a little chuckle once he had realised why I had paused suddenly, but now I knew his name, I couldn’t help but stare at him a little trying to see if he fit that name. “What?” He asks with another chuckle watching me watch him. “Vito, is not a name I would have guessed you would have had.” I say with a little smile still looking over at him, but after looking down at the time, I knew I needed to get on. “Well, I better get going, I have

My father didn’t give up his attempts to break into the bedroom for what felt like a lifetime, all I could do was lay on my floor weeping at not only the physical pain that has been inflicted upon me, but the emotional. My father had done some awful things and has said even worse, but he has never inflicted this much pain onto me. I may have gotten the odd hit or punch, but never that far! The crashing on my door soon comes to an end where the front door slamming closed soon followed, I sit up a little staring at my door unknowing if this was some kind of trap or my father had left the house. The next morning was the same as most in England at this time of year, the streets were wet with rain where many of the drains around with the task of keeping the floods away were nearly full to capacity. But Vito didn’t allow this fact to get to him much, he enjoyed the times the city was under storms, this meant not nearly the same amount of people will be out and about getting in his way or taking an interest in him. The one thing which did anger him slightly was the amount traffic, the once busy but manageable road soon resembled a carpark as more people drove to work due to the rain or called for a taxi. This left Vito tapping his thumb off his steering wheel as he waited in the thick of the traffic, he didn’t have time to sit around and wait but, in this moment, that was all he could do. But not having anything thrown at him in this moment allows his mind to wonder, where it soon went to the same person it had since he first met her, that nice girl from the coffee shop Coralin

I would love to say after patching myself up I was able to get some good rest, but that was far from being the case. I normally, sleep on my side as that’s what was comfortable for me, but due to my arms being savaged by glass and the huge bruise from my father kicking me back down to the ground, it only sent excruciating pain to ripple through my body preventing me from doing so. This meant, I was forced to lay on my back staring at the ceiling. Another thing which kept me up was the fear of my father returning, each time that I managed to get to sleep, I would jolt awake from fear that he was looming over me again. With all this stacked up, I didn’t get any sleep which only added to how awful I felt. But also, leading me to call sick into work for

The next morning soon rolls around quicker than I would have liked, I knew the job was looming close with each day, but now it was here, I was riddled with worry. Vito kept repeating that he had gone over each detail so throughly that there was no way anything was to go wrong, but I also knew not to underestimate the police, they could be way ahead of him without Vito even knowing. As we stood in the kitchen getting the last things ready, I stood with my arms crossed and my hands shaking from fear, I worried this would be the last time I’d be able to see him ever and after the news I had told him yesterday, it cut deeper than anyone would expect. “Alright, the men are waiting three streets away from the warehouse with Buster keeping them in check, we have to be there in forty minutes to ensure we hit the place in the window where the security are switching.” Jayden says going over what he had said so many times over the past few days, I’ve heard it so much, I could probably go wit

But also, with the death weapon which is in his hand and pointed at Louis’s head, I was more than worried to see where this was going to go. “I only found out yesterday after I went to the restaurant, I wanted to tell you the minute that I saw you, but I knew after how the last pregnancy ended, you’ll be a little more worried about me which is something you don’t need walking into the job tomorrow.” I begin to say breaking the silence when Vito didn’t go to move or say a single word. “I wouldn’t know myself if it wasn’t for Louis, yesterday, we didn’t stop the car because I wanted to look at the scenery, we had to stop the car as I was throwing up on the side of the road which is when Louis asked if I was pregnant. After managing to successfully, avoid slipping up to Vito and telling him about the baby for the first half of the morning, we pulled up at the huge warehouse which felt like a second home at this point, so Vito can have the last meeting with the guys before the big job tomorrow. Climbing out the car with my huge water bottle in hand hoping water was going to help the sickness ease, I walked up the steep stairs hand in hand with Vito to find it was only Louis waiting there throwing a ball in the air and catching it. “Alright boss and Mrs Boss, Buster and Jayden are running late, something about a crash on the motorway, I tend not to listen to explanations much.” Louis said sort of explaining why the others weren’t here but at the same time, giving us no information at all. “They better hurry up, we have a lot to go over about tomorrow especially, now we have more men on the team to keep in line.” Vito grumbles a little annoyed that we had to wait around for the others to show bu

After the meeting, Vito took us home telling the rest of the guys to meet him at the warehouse tomorrow, whilst we went home to Vito’s huge house that I had yet to be given a tour of. Still being covered in blood from all he had done today, Vito takes a shower as soon as we arrived home leaving me alone to get ready for bed.
