My shoulders tensed up as Jason pressed the stop button of the elevator. I knew he wasn’t going to physically harm me, but I was scared. I didn’t know what his plan was.

“Why did you stop the elevator? What's the endgame here? Scaring me? People are going to check if the elevator is stopped for too long,” I blurted out, feeling the weight of his dark gaze drilling into my head.

“If you had just fallen for the plan, life would have been so much easier for you. I don’t think I can spend more time trying to make you fall in love with me, I am running out of time. I didn’t think you’d be this smart, honestly. I thought you were a lonely, naive woman looking for love, but you’ve made all of this a little too difficult,” he muttered to himself, rubbing his head in frustration.

“Ha, I was right,” I said happily before the smile fell from my face when I realized I might be in danger.
