“Mama?”

Kieran’s voice rang through Brynn's dark, clouded mind as she turned back to look at her son, who was tugging on her skirt, his round eyes worried.

“Mama, who was that? She didn’t seem nice like Macy or Alyssa,” he says, and Brynn bends to pick him up.

For one, Kieran's intuition had always been strong, even though he was still a child. He hardly got comfortable with people, and Talia was a clear example that she wasn’t good news.

"I'm back!” Alyssa's voice rang through the garden as she came back with a towel, but she paused when she saw Brynn's face crestfallen, and it made her face form a frown. "What happened here?”

"A mean lady came, Kieran says to Alyssa, and her face gets angry. “Was it, Talia?” She asked Brynn, but Burn just smiled and beckoned her not to worry.

"You look like you want to be alone for a while. You can take him off your hand to bathe him; can I do that?” She asked Brynn, knowing she needed permission.
