“Please, don't hurt me.”

My body shook and my hands were raised above my head. My eyes were looking at the ground and I did not dare lift my head to look up at the man.

What the heck was he? He was not a Werewolf, I would have known from his scent. The first time I approached him, he smelled like a human and now that he was awake, I got a whiff of his scent.

Dangerous! He smelled of danger and I still couldn’t figure out what creature he was.

“You saved me.”

I looked up in shock to see red eyes staring at me curiously. I gasped and jerked away.

I gulped. “I don’t know about that, I saw the rod stuck in your heart and pulled it out. That’s all.”

I quickly clarified. I closed my eyes tight and hoped the man would just leave me alone now. I didn’t want to die today or worse yet, be in the newspaper because I was murdered all because of my stupidity.

“Thank you for saving my life.”

My eyes widened and I glanced up at the man. His eyes were no longer red but a rich hazel color. They had so much depth to them and I was lost in a trance staring at them until those eyes fluttered softly and closed, the dead man falling and I caught him before his body could hit the ground.

He was unconscious in my arms. The deadman was still breathing and it seemed he was just sleeping, probably from exhaustion.

I pondered if I should leave him at the parking lot, this would solve everything and I could go back to my life, put this whole thing behind me, and not be scared about being killed by this man but what If the person who had stabbed him came back to finish the job?

I had already made my decision.

***

It took a lot of strength to get the stranger at home and after placing him on my bed, I was panting. Carrying a man who was over six feet and five inches with a bear-like build was no work in the park.

“Megan, is that you? What was that noise?” My eyes went wide and I tensed.

Charity shouldn't be at home. What was she doing here? I brought the stranger here because I knew Charity had to work overtime today and would come home in the morning.

“Megan?” Her voice called in the hallway. I can't let her find this man in here, I stepped out of my bedroom and saw her coming towards me.

“Hey Charity,” I rested a hand on my hips and leaned on the wall. “What are you doing at home?”

I was trying to go for the nonchalant vibe and I knew my acting sucked when Charity raised her brows.

“What's going on? What are you up to Megan?” She asked and I laughed, dryly.

“Nothing, I’m not up to anything. Just tired and want to go to bed,” I straightened up. “You know I had a busy day at work.”

Charity looked at me skeptically but then her gaze relaxed. “Yeah, I understand.”

I sighed in relief and grinned. “I’ll see you in the morning, good night.”

I turned to head back to my room but Charity used her fast reflexes and grabbed my hands.

“Why is there blood on your shirt?” My eyes widened and I looked at the sleeve of my shirt, it was stained with blood and I groaned. This was my favorite shirt and now it was ruined.

I looked at Charity and she was gazing at me with an expression that told me to spill everything. I smile sheepishly at her.

“Please, don’t get angry.”

Charity gave me a pointed look and I took a deep breath before proceeding to reveal everything and her eyes widened.

“What the hell, Megan?” She whispered. “Why will you do something that stupid?”

I winced at her words. “I don’t know, I just felt the strong need to do that and there was this voice.”

“What voice?” Charity shook her head. “No, that doesn’t matter. Let’s go see this dead man.”

“Resurrected,” I mumbled and she rolled her eyes at me. “Anyway, let’s go.”

Charity follows me to my room and we step inside, and we’re quiet as much as possible. I bring her to my bed where the man is sprawled out asleep.

“What the f**king hell, Megan?” Charity yelled and I turned to her, she looked baffled and scared.

She pointed at the man. “This is the Lycan King.”

I freeze for a second, then burst into laughter. “Come on, that’s not him. The lycan king will probably be at his castle right now.”

Charity shook her head, disbelief in her eyes. “That’s him, he’s the only one with silver hair.”

I look back at the man on my bed. No way, Charity must be mistaken. I did not pick up the Lycan king and bring him to my house.

“This must be a mis-”

“Oh my gosh!” Charity covered her mouth with her hand.

“What is it?” I asked, exasperated and she dropped her hands to her side.

“Someone attempted to murder the Lycan King.”

I drew in a long breath and let those words sink in. This meant War.

The Lycan king ruled over the Werewolves and Lycan species and every Werewolf and Lycan creature answered to him. Lycans were the strongest supernaturals to exist and Werewolves revered them. It was rare to see a Lycan and there were not up to a thousand of them in the universe, it was difficult for the species to reproduce and also difficult for them to be killed, Lycans were a hundred times stronger than werewolves, faster, their sense of smell was better and their wolf form was bigger than Werewolves.

The gap between Lycans and Werewolves was already huge and the Lycan king was untouchable. I had heard stories about all the wars he had won and how it was because of him that the Werewolves and Vampires were in a treaty.

He was a legend and like a myth, something you’ve heard about but never get the chance to see and I never thought that I would see him like this. Someone went through a whole lot of measures to kill the Lycan king, and they must be powerful for them to get to him.

“What do we do? Should we call someone?”

Charity shook her head. “No, we don’t know who the king’s enemy is and we should wait for him to wake up.”

I nodded in understanding. Right now, it would be risky to make any calls and we might just put ourselves and the king in danger. I just hoped he woke up soon and everything would go back to normal.

“Let’s clean him up.”

***

It had already been three days since I brought the Lycan king to my bed and he had still not woken up. I closed my bakery temporarily and informed my workers not to come in since I wouldn’t be around. I had spent this past couple of days tending to the Lycan king and making sure that he drank Charity’s healing portion tea she had brewed for him. She said it was to make sure that he had healed properly. the Lycan king was looking healthier and his skin was no longer pale and getting its color back.

It was time to feed him the portion and I made my way to my room with a cup of brewed tea.

I stared at the Lycan king’s face longer than I wanted to when I stepped inside and frowned. It was just so unfair how some men were handsome and had effortlessly perfect smooth skin. I bet he didn’t have a skincare routine aside from Soap and body creams. And what was with the long lashes? Every guy had long lashes, I swear there was foul play when men were created.

Okay, no more of these stupid thoughts

I exhaled and sat down on the bed, his chest rose and fell as he slept. Well, Charity said that he was hibernating and gathering energy and reinforcing his body which had fallen under danger before.

I brought the cup to his lips cautiously and waited for him to sip as he had been doing instinctively in the last three days, maybe he knew the potion was not poisonous and he knew to sip.

“Come on, drink your medicine please,” I urged, bringing the cup directly to his lips.

Before I knew what was going on, red menacing eyes snapped open and he lunged at me, pinning me down. I let out a startled yelp, frozen at the sudden ambush.

“Who the hell are you?” growled the Lycan King.
