-Anastasia-

I was excited to really meet the only real relative Roman had. I had dressed up, put myself in a nice black dress with long sleeves, and I had put on some makeup. I let my hair stay down, and I put on some heels. I wasn’t sure if I was doing too much, but I wanted to leave a good impression. Shane was very important to Roman, that I knew. I had gotten ready early though, and went downstairs to get some lunch, when the doorbell suddenly rang. I looked at the door, confused. I didn’t believe his cousin would arrive yet. It was pouring down outside. The doorbell rang again, and I shrugged, going over to the door, and then as soon as I opened it, Daphne stormed inside.

“Eh… come in?”

“Ah shit, I got caught in the stupid storm!” she said and shrugged off her jacket before she hung it up.

I looked at her, confused.

“And welcome, please make yourself at home,” I told her jokingly.

She turned to me, almost looking a bit apologetic.

“Sorry, I really just had to get out of my

-Roman- “I’m sorry… what?” I asked, as Daphne sat in front of me and Helena. “I…” Daphne looked away, looking almost a bit embarrassed. “Engaged?” I asked, shocked. Daphne couldn’t look me in the eye, and I understood why. How could she keep this from me? I knew she needed time away and to just focus on herself after everything, but not telling me she was engaged, I felt was over the top! We were still best friends. I wanted her to be able to tell me these sorts of things, but no, she had kept quiet, and now she couldn’t look me in the eye. “I… thought it made sense,” she explained. “To get engaged to someone you have never met?” I asked her. “Well, I almost married someone who I knew wouldn’t love me!” I looked at her, shocked, and Daphne quickly looked away again, looking guilty. “Sorry… It’s not… we are past that.” “Or are we?” I asked. Ana looked between us, worried, and I was not sure what she was thinking at that moment, but I could understand if it was all a bit shoc

-Anastasia- Roman still had some work to do, so after he had eaten with us, he went and continued with that. I stayed with Daphne and we talked a little about everything. She told me about her family and what other friends she had. No one was real except Roman. The rest were really for the looks of it. They used each other. Daphne hated the role she had to play, but she didn’t have much choice. She came from a very traditional and powerful family, and playing those games was part of her role. She had to seem proper and perfect. I was glad I didn’t have the same expectations put on me. My family didn’t care much about being proper and perfect. It was about feeling good about yourself and enjoy life. I told Daphne that. “Maybe we should switch families,” she suggested. “Oh, Goddess no! You’re not getting mine!” She and I chuckled, and we smiled at each other. I had not had many friends, but it already felt like Daphne and I were finding a friend in each other. “How is it going betwe

*There is another flashback in this chapter* -Anastasia- A servant came to get me and Daphne, telling us dinner was ready, and that Shane had arrived. Roman and Shane were already in the dining room, waiting for us, and Daphne and I quickly left our seats to go join them. We were just chatting with each other as we walked down the hallways until we reached the dining room. The doors stood wide open, and we quickly entered, but then as we did, something hit me… a scent… a scent that was far too familiar. I followed the source and locked eyes with a lycan further away, who didn’t share much resemblance with Roman, but that was not why he seemed familiar to me. My heart began to beat faster, and suddenly a violent pain went through my head, before the world turned black. The fire burned me, hurting me badly. I screamed and screamed, rolling around on the ground, trying to get the flames to burn out. Eventually they did, but I could still hear my skin sizzling. I tried sitting up, but I

-Roman- I had seen my mate lose all strength in her body and just fall to the floor. I hurried over to her, feeling so scared. I had not seen such a reaction in her before. She had just looked at me and Shane and then she had lost all strength. I gently grabbed her and held her in my arms. She was already sweaty and growing so pale. I really didn’t like it, but I knew it really was just another one of her episodes, and all I could do was wait and see what would happen. I called out her name gently, feeling so worried. I didn’t like it. I hated when this happened to her, but it wasn’t long then she was opening her eyes a little. I kept calling out to her, and I stroked her warm cheek. Ana then surprised me as she sat up, like she hadn’t just experienced a violent episode and she looked around a bit like she wasn’t sure what was happening. Daphne and I helped her stand, and I was sure Ana just wanted to go lie down and rest. It always was hard on her when these things happened to her. S

-Roman- “Your mate has lost her mind!” Daphne said as she charged into the kitchen through the swing doors, almost knocking into the walls behind them. “I think so too.” “Then do something!” Daphne turned to me, and I sighed, running a hand down my face. I didn’t know what to do. I had never seen Ana like this. She was always much more reserved. “I think it’s her episode,” I told Daphne. “I think it did something to her.” “Then take her to a doctor! Like I told you!” Daphne had placed a hand on the kitchen island and was resting against it. I sighed and leaned my back against it too, as I crossed my arms. “She is making us all super uncomfortable!” “I know…” “And have you seen the way she looks at Shane? I mean, I don’t think she has blinked once,” Daphne said. “I saw it…” “Then do something!” she said. “I can’t sit in that room again if it continues. You can cut the tension with a knife. And poor Shane! I mean, does she not like him or something?” “I don’t know,” I told h

-Anastasia- I wasn’t going to wait for Roman to come and stop me this time. He would not stop me from killing the true culprit behind all of this and who seemed to want to hurt him, too. I still wasn’t completely sure if Shane was after his cousin, too, but I had been right. My family had been made an example of. They died because the lycans felt my father had overstepped… my brother had been torn apart and my mom… I couldn’t even think about it without feeling such anger and hatred that it hurt me, almost. I was going to show Shane, though. He would not get out of this it this time. I was here to remember and pay him back for his crimes. “Is Roman your next target?” I asked him. “My cousin?” “Do you want to hurt him, too?” I asked. Shane smiled. “Do I think the lycans deserve a better king? I do.” “And if Roman and I died, that would be you, right?” “It would be,” he said. “You’re not even sorry about what you have to do, right?” I asked him. “Not one bit.” “You really are

  • The Lycan King's Scarred Mate   Chapter 79: Waking Up

-Anastasia- I felt so damn drowsy. I couldn’t quite control my body. It felt weak and… weird. What had happened? Where was I? I tried opening my eyes, but they were so heavy. I groaned, feeling so weird in my body and my mouth felt strangely dry. I tried again to open my eyes and then saw the world going by fast. I quickly sat up and looked around before my eyes settled on Shane in the driver’s seat. He turned his head and smiled at me. “Morning, sunshine,” he said. “Morning?” I looked out, and yes, it was indeed morning. How long had we been driving? Or was he going around, trying to confuse Roman? Oh, shit… Roman! What happened to Roman? I looked at Shane again. “What did you to do to Roman?” I asked him. “Oh, Roman? He is fine. Just a little… knocked out,” Shane said and smiled. “What?” “I knocked him out,” he said, because he thought I was really asking. I looked at him, shocked, and almost tried to reach for him, only to find my hands tied in front of me. I tried pulling

-Roman- I groaned, slowly waking from a very deep and heavy sleep. I couldn’t even remember having gone to bed. Did the dinner go well? Ana… Ana had been acting so weirdly, freaking us all out. She had been almost interrogating Shane… Shane? Wait… I opened my eyes, the world spinning and not quite coming into focus right away. It took a moment before I could really see anything, and then I noticed Daphne further away, still lying on the floor. “D-Daphne…” I croaked out. I tried getting my body to move, but it was so heavy, and I had a violent pain in the side of my head. Roman! Ana! “I know…” Shane had taken her. I couldn’t see her or even smell her in the room. She had only left a faint scent, meaning she had been gone for a while now. I tried standing up again, but I couldn’t. My limbs wouldn’t do what I told them to, and I ended up an army crawling towards Daphne. Shit… my head hurt so much. I reached up and touched sticky blood, which was still running a little from the wound

-Daphne- Two years later. “Jackson?” I walked into my mate’s office. Often we would sit there together, but I had woken up later today. He lifted his head and smiled at me as he saw me enter. “Hey,” he said, his smile growing the closer I came to him. I walked around the desk and smiled playfully. He tried to reach for me to pull me closer, but I moved away and he looked puzzled. “Can’t I touch you now?” he chuckled. “Not yet.” “Oh, are we playing?” “Yup, my own little special game.” “Is that the game where you tease the hell out of me with your mouth and tongue?” he asked. “No.” “Where you strip and make me go crazy?” “No.” “I am getting confused now,” he said, making me chuckle. “What kind of game are we playing?” “A guessing game.” “Okay,” he said. “Is there a prize for me to win?” He smiled mischievously, and I nodded. “I am all in then.” “Tell me the first thing that comes to mind when I say a word,” I told him. “Okay.” “House.” “A home,” he said. “Love.” “

  • The Lycan King's Scarred Mate   Chapter 38: Their New Life

-Jackson- Daphne had her fears, but after I recovered and her parents received a proper sentence locking them away for years, Daphne stepped up to the role of luna. I had never seen her flourish more. It was like this hidden side of her had been slumbering, waiting to come out and show what she could truly do. We gave her members a choice, but almost everyone wanted to rather be merged than be on their own. She and those who wanted moved to our territory, but she still owned the former land and house her parents had, and told anyone who wanted to stay could, but they would still be under both our controls. It was going great between us, and I watched from afar as my mate was coming back from a late run. We were both so busy we barely had time to truly enjoy being together. My dad was stepping down, and I was becoming alpha more and more until I would receive all the control from him. Daphne smiled as she saw me coming up onto the porch and I pulled her closer and kissed her. “Hey,” I

-Daphne- I was fuming. I couldn’t believe what my family had wanted to do. This was so much further than I realized they could ever take it, and I had demanded my mother was arrested too. Roman had no problems with it. I couldn’t believe they thought they could get away with this, but sometimes greed made people reckless and it made them think they were invincible. They weren’t, though, and I would never speak to them again. Jackson had to undergo a minor surgery, but the doctor assured me he would recover fast, and it wasn’t long before he woke up, all of us there. His eyes found me first, though, and he smiled at me so sweetly. “Hey,” he whispered. “How are you feeling?” “Sleepy.” “Yeah, the drugs are wearing off slowly.” “Mmm, wonderful,” he whispered. Jackson’s parents moved closer, and I let them have a moment with him as I waved Roman with me out into the hallway. He followed me and we stopped a little further away. “I can’t believe they did this,” I said. “How do you wa

-Jackson- I was on the ground, bleeding and completely beaten up. I had tried nothing like it before. I had fought before. I had had my ass kicked, and I had been close to death, but this just seemed personal, and so the pain was different. I was unsure how many had attacked me, but the smell of lycan filled the room, so I knew it was no small wolves who had come after me. I had been able to take down one of them and he laid on the ground not far from me, but the others were standing above me, and I was unsure why they had stopped kicking me. Soon the door opened, and I saw nice shoes coming my way. I was able to keep my eyes open enough to slowly let them wander up the body, and seeing Daphne’s father in front of me. “You have made a lot of problems for me,” he accused. I tried speaking, but I just coughed up blood. “I need to have you removed so I can take home my daughter.” Hadn’t he tried ruining her with those rumors? Why kill me now? “She… is… mine,” I croaked out. “Not fo

-Jackson- Daphne was scared to begin with as we began the dance, but when I asked her what it matter what other people thought, she seemed to realize something and began enjoying our night. I led her around through two dances before we finally joined the party and began to mingle. Not a lot wanted to talk to us. They either thought Daphne was some kind of whore, giving herself to a wolf, or maybe her family had made people believe she had given herself away to many. Or that I was a lunatic who had kidnapped her in the night and made her fall in love with me. That she was suffering from some kind of Stockholm Syndrome, but the people we spoke to were quickly convinced otherwise. They saw the love in our eyes. They noticed how affectionate we were with each other, and it changed their view of things. I knew some people we could never convince, but they didn’t want to be convinced. They want to believe the drama, because it was what excited them, but we wouldn’t care. Daphne and I were h

-Daphne- Jackson came up behind me as I stood in the closet, all dressed up. He kissed my neck and made me feel so calm and secure pressed to his powerful body. I moaned a little as he kissed the mark on my shoulder. My dress had no sleeves or straps and my hair was up, so everyone could see I was taken. I knew it pleased my mate a lot. It was a way to tell everyone to fuck off if they tried anything. I squeezed his hands on my stomach before I turned around and he rested his on my hips. “You ready?” “Not really,” I admitted. “Why not?” “I am so nervous. I have never stood up to them before.” He smiled a little and kissed me. “You’re not alone.” I smiled back and finally noticed how sexy my mate looked in a suit. I ran my hands down his arms and back up, and I knew he saw the shift in me. “Like what you see?” “Very much,” I confessed. “You look amazing too,” he complimented me. I smiled even bigger, feeling how warm my cheeks grew. “I love you,” I told him again. Over the

-Jackson- Later in the evening, as rain began to pour, and we had eaten dinner, my family gathered in one of the living rooms. Just my parents, me and Daphne, and Ana and Roman. We were all sipping drinks, munching on snacks, and talking. I really enjoyed being there with them. I loved them all so much, and when I turned to look at my mate, I could feel it in my heart too. I was falling for Daphne, and I couldn’t wait until we could start our life together, with no one trying to interrupt our happiness. “So, when are you heading home?” I asked Ana. “Oh, want to get rid of me that fast, huh?” We all chuckled. “Just asking.” “No, you are trying to kick me out,” she teased. I shook my head, and she finally turned serious. “No, we are going home tomorrow, and then will begin setting everything up for the party.” “It will be the party from hell,” Daphne said. “No, it will be fine,” Roman assured her. “Is there anything special we should be prepared for?” my mother asked. “Just t

-Daphne- Roman and I were walking beside each other outside. Jackson and Ana decided to spend some time together after Roman asked if he could have a moment with me. I was glad he asked, because I had missed my friend and I needed his guidance. It wasn’t just Jackson I had been hiding from. It was Roman and Ana too. After the dinner with Shane, I had simply gone back to my old life and acted like I could be the same person again. The one who could be the perfect lycan luna, and get mated to a complete stranger. The one who pleased her parents, no questions asked. I wasn’t that person, though. I had never wanted to be that person. On the inside I was so much different, but I didn’t know how to escape them. “So, how is it going?” Roman asked. “It’s… good,” I said, searching for the right word, but not even good could describe how wonderful I felt, and when Roman saw the smile on my lips, he began smiling too. “You look better.” “Better?” “Taller,” he said. “Yeah, Jackson brings so
