Athena's POV
My throat had dried up from sprinting for my life, I had used up all the energy I had left, and my legs had gotten wobbly, and I couldn't move any farther.
I sagged on the floor, sat up, leaning my back on the tree behind me, and swallowed my spit in order to moisten my dry throat. I sniff the air and see no evidence of water.
I've never felt so depleted and weak, and the fact that I'm pregnant makes it much worse; I choked on my own tears, feeling lost. I'm not sure where I'm going.
The thought of Daniel looking for me shook me awake, and I began sprinting again, barely looking back but once more.
My legs wobbled when I collided with a tree before going down. I coughed again, this time fiercely, my shoulders trembles as I wiped the edge of my lips.
I looked down at my wrists and saw my own blood staring back at me.
Tears filled my eyes, and I began crying without realizing it, chasing the birds off the tree where I had collapsed, burying my face in my hands.
I thought I could pull it off. I believed I could fight for my unborn child, but what's the point? If either my child or I die,
I ran away to find a new home for my unborn child, knowing fully well that my father wasn't going to accept me and I didn't have a single dime to even feed myself, not to talk of finding a house, or new clothes.
What was I thinking?
Nevertheless, I couldn't go back. Remembering everything that ensued between Andrea and Daniel, I shut my hand tight and bit my lip hard to force myself into making a decision I would regret.
But it was worth it. For me and for my unborn child. I couldn't stay alive and live knowing that someone like Andrea was going to be a mother to my child. And I could never live with the thought that Daniel was actually going to marry someone else.
Sometimes I considered telling him I was his mate, but what use will that be when he hates even the sight of me?
I groaned sharply again and held my stomach before I quickly placed a hand over my blood, feeling blood tickle from my palm.
My ears suddenly twitched as I could hear enormous footfalls and the trotting of wolves fast approaching me, I knew immediately Daniel had set out some men to look for me, and I was not going back to the pack.
I scurried up immediately and ran in the opposite direction, entering deeper into the woods, I knew they will easily smell me and come hunting for me. My eyes were filled with tears and all I could do is run deeper into the forest, I know at this rate I might be caught, and I dread what will happen to me if Daniel catches me, he will definitely punish me for leaving the pack with his unborn child, I thought about several ways this could end if I am eventually caught and non-ended well for me.
I suddenly held a rattling sound from afar, and I knew immediately someone was fighting for their life, I followed the sound I heard and saw a man on the floor rattling and gurgling out blood from his mouth, his skin was torn apart with claws, and he looks as if he had had a nasty fight
I gasped at the scene before me and I moved quickly to meet the person, I saw his eyes looking distant, and I held his hand immediately, too scared to let go, I wondered what might happen to him if I didn't walk up to meet him.
I cut underneath my dress and wrapped it around his wound, looking around several times, hoping Daniel's men won't catch up with me, my hands were trembling all the time as I tried to revive him, I stood up immediately and looked into the woods, I saw some healing herbs and cut them, I rubbed them on my hands and tried squeezing out the liquids from it, I put the squeeze herb on the wound to stop the bleeding, after few minutes his breaths started calming down, and he was rattling again
I slumped on the floor quivering as I thought about how he almost lost his life, I cried silently thinking about my predicament and the man before me. I sat up quickly when I heard him cough and crawled over to meet him, he slowly opened his eyes, and I was met with his gray ones, I helped him up, and I can see he had already stabilized, though he wasn't fully healed.
“How are you feeling?”I asked, sounding worried, I saw him stagger a little before balancing his steps, his blazing gaze set on me, one could hardly know he was the same person who was fighting for his life.
“Thank you,” he said instead and stood up, I heard the trotting approaching faster, and I stood up immediately, hiding behind his back, he turned immediately and groaned at the swift movement, he furrowed his brow looking at me
“What are you doing?” he asked and tears welled up in my eyes, I needed to escape, I needed to run as fast as I could
“Save me! They are coming for me” I said and I saw his ear twitch.
“Who is coming for you?” he asked
“I don't have time to answer questions, please” I begged, scared for my life and that if my child
“What is your name?” he asked
“Athena” I replied
“Andrew,” he said, and he suddenly carried me, earning a gasp from me, and started running inside the wood. “I know this wood better than anyone, you will lose them soon” he reassured me and I closed my eyes completely trusting him.
The matching feet and the trotting sounds of wolf slowly faded and the only sound I could hear was the whooshing sounds of the breeze, which sounded like a lullaby on my ears.
Athena’s POV “We lost them,” Andrew said, and I opened my eyes. I looked around and noticed that we were in front of a large gate, and I gave him a suspicious look. “Welcome to my pack, I need to see the doctor first, and then we can talk,” he said, and I agreed. As we approached the gate, I noticed men standing by and paving paths for us. They quickly opened the gate and we entered the vast park. I looked around and everything looked different from what I was used to. I grinned and turned to face Andrew. “I'll summon assistance for you to settle in, and then we can talk,” Andrew said, and I nodded. I was ready to respond when I noticed someone approaching us. “Alpha!” the strange man said, slightly bending his head, and I was surprised, I wasn't expecting Andrew to be an alpha, I guessed why he could heal so quickly and even with his injuries, he was able to run into the woods with me on his arms “we were about gathering the men to search for you,” the strange man said, and Andre
Daniel’s POV My blood was boiling as the guards sent out to find Athena returned with an empty hand; rage was coursing through my veins, my eyes were bloodshot red, and any slight provocation may result in the killing of any of them. “Don't worry, Daniel; we'll find her.”I scoffed as Beta Carl said this. “I sent you out early to get her back while I could still sense her, but you couldn't, you couldn't catch a pregnant woman after leaving with fifty guards,” I screamed, slamming the desk. I began pacing about, my hand on my jaws, wondering what I could do to get Athena back to the pack I'm not sure where she might have run to or how far she might have gone; what if anything bad happens to her, and she's left alone in the wilderness and dies? My heart started racing just thinking about losing my companion. “I need to find her myself,” I replied, and Carl stopped me in my tracks by standing in front of me. “You can't leave the pack like this, you can't go out like this. We'll ma
Athena’s POV Andrew's eyes swept over my body, and I felt myself shudder. “Where are you originally from?” And why do you have men chasing after you, who are you?” he inquired. Andrew inquired right away, and I considered telling him the truth, but I was afraid that he would take me back to Daniel if he discovered I was his mate, and soon everyone in each pack would know that Daniel was looking for me. I have decided not to go back, and I am not going back on my words. “My name is Athena,” I murmured, biting my lips, my insides churning as I considered the ideal thing to say to make him believe me. “You already told me that,” he responded, practically hissing, and I immediately tucked my hands between my knees. “My family and I are simple farmers; we live near the border of my pack, and those men ambushed us; they killed my family, and I had to flee; they tried to kill me as well,” I explained, and he gave me a doubtful look. “Is that why you have so many men following you? An
Athena’s POV My eyes suddenly opened, and I blinked to escape the strong light invading my eyes, I groaned and my eyes pelt adjusted to the light, and I opened my eyes up. “You are awake,” a foreign voice said, and I quickly opened my eyes. I wasn't in a room I was familiar with, so I looked about and discovered I was inside the clinic. I suddenly remembered that I had lost consciousness under the waterfall and gasped; I instantly clutched my stomach, hoping that nothing had happened to my child; I would never forgive myself if anything had happened to my child. “Your baby is fine, the fetus is growing normally,” the odd person stated, and I looked at her with suspicion. “I am the pack doctor; I looked after you when Alpha Andrew brought you to the Pack clinic,” she explained, and I nodded. “You said my baby is fine?”I questioned, choking on my tears; for a brief moment, I was terrified that I would lose my source of happiness forever; my hands shook and I sighed. “Yes, very heal
Athena’s POVDays have gone since I began living in the pack, and each day has passed with monotony; I sighed and stood up from my bed when I heard a knock on the door; I walked to the door, and there stood Maya in the doorway. “Maya,” I said with a smile, and she laughed. “Good morning, and how was your night?” She requested, and I moved out of the way, so she could enter the room. “It was fantastic; how was yours?” I inquired, and she removed the bedsheet from the mattress, folding it in the basket she had brought with her, and chose to spread a new one. “It was fine as usual,” she said, spreading a new bedsheet. “You know I can do these little things on my own,” I remarked, and Maya laughed.“It is my responsibility to look after your affairs,” Maya responded, and I sighed.“I am tired and bored all the time. I need to do something,” I replied, and Maya grumbled. “You should meet with Alpha Andrew; he'll definitely figure out something you can do,” Maya said, and I nodded.“T
Daniel’s POVMy hands shook with rage as beta Carl approached me, he stopped midway when he sensed the hatred simmering through me and at any time, I could lose it and shift into my wolf, slaying several of them out of anger. “Alpha Daniel” Beta Carl called, gently bowing his head to indicate respect, and I scoffed and turned away from him. The patience in me is dwindling with each passing day, and I am so disappointed in them for not doing what I want the most. “And you returned empty-handed once more! Is she really that difficult to find? A helpless pregnant woman!”I yelled at him, hitting my hand on my table, and the sound echoed across the room. I could have gone out the last time to look for her, but the Pack's elders stopped me.“We traced the blood we found the other day, alpha, and it led to the middle of nowhere in the forest; I'm not sure if she's still alive; she could have been killed in the woods,” Beta Carl replied, and I snarled, advancing quickly, wrapping my hands t
Athena’s POV The pups' laughter filled the air, and I smiled and looked over at them, dreaming about holding my baby and watching him grow so that he could laugh like this with me. I've had numerous dreams about my kid being faceless, and I can't wait to hold him in my arms and see his face. I was collecting some herbs from the garden when I heard footsteps approaching and turned to see Alice, who had refused to let me call her doctor. Alice had grown to be a friend I could trust in the pack. “You shouldn't bend too much,” she said in a motherly tone, and I laughed. “Are you scared for the pup?” I inquired, chuckling.“I am a doctor, remember, when people see love when they look into each other's eyes, I see a cataract,” she remarked, and I burst out laughing. “Thank the goddess, I'm not a doctor and can be swayed by such things.” I chuckled and took up the bowl in which I was collecting the herbs. “How has your study gone so far?” Alice inquired, and I sighed.“I'm fine, I'm tr
Athena’s POV“Oh my! Are you all right?”Andrew asked abruptly, and I laughed. He had accidentally struck me with the rough edge of the sword, and I had fallen to the floor. “It's fine,” I said as I stood up and dusted my shirt. “No, I'll take you to the Pack doctor,” Andrew responded, and I laughed briefly. Andrew and I have been practicing sword fights for a long now, and it's always fun. I've learned to like having such fun with him, and he always makes time to play with me.“I am fine, seriously” I explained while I was dropping the sword I was holding with one of the guards. “No, I insist,” he responded, and I had no choice but to follow him to the Pack clinic. Alice grinned as soon as she saw me enter the clinic with Andrew. “Alpha! Lady Athena!”Alice mentioned being courteous to us.“She fell while we were having a sword fight; I want to make sure she's okay,” Andrew added, and Alice nodded. Before she could respond, we noticed Beta Royce joining us. “We need to talk alpha
