Derek was seated on his couch, going through a few pages of his documents when Anna walked in with a smile.
“Well aren’t you as busy as a bee,” she laughed as Derek sighed.
“What do you want?”
“I’m just here to see you and how you’re doing.”
“I’m not in the mood for your games Anna,” the alpha growled. “Tell me what you want or leave.”
Anna stepped closer, her heels clicking softly against the marble floor. “It’s about Lyra, the traitor you’ve locked in the dungeons.”
The sound of Lyra’s name caused Derek’s jaw to tighten. “What about her? She’s a threat to us all and she’ll remain where she is.”
He didn’t believe that but he didn’t care at this point. She had slept with the enemy and that meant that she was a traitor.
“I do too, Alpha. She’s betrayed us all and doesn’t deserve our mercy. I don’t even know what she did but you’re right. She deserves to be locked up to never see the sun again. But don’t you think it’s about time someone took care of her? You’ve got too much on your plate to do with the pack to even think of sorting her out yourself. You can’t deal with her. You need someone else to do the dirty work for you. I’m sure even you can attest to that.”
She smiled and got to him, rubbing his shoulders while he turned to face her as she smiled at him with a seductive smile.
His eyes fell to her showing cleavage as he turned back to her face.
Derek thought about what she’d said, frowning as he leant forward slightly in his seat. “What exactly are you suggesting here?”
Anna took another step closer, her voice lowering to a conspiratorial tone. “Just let me handle her for you, Derek. Give me the right to punish her.”
He frowned at her. “You’re not an enforcer or warrior, Anna. Why would I give you that right?”
He turned to face his desk as she rushed around to stand before his chair with a smile.
Anna’s smile didn’t waver as she knew what she wanted and she was ready to get it. Lyra had crossed the line when she tried getting close to her man. Why beat her illegally when she could do it before her alpha and get applauded for it?
She placed a dainty hand on the armrest of his chair, her fingers barely grazing his. “Because I care about you, Derek. That’s why I want to do this. I care about this pack. I want to show you how much I love this pack and you.”
Derek reclined in his seat, gaze searching hers. “Love? Or are you hoping to get back at Lyra for something?”
Anna’s expression shifted and a touch of sadness crossed her face. It was fake but she didn’t care. She was going to act like she cared so it would drive home the point of her being before the alpha. “I’m not going to lie, Lyra hurt me too. She betrayed us all. But this isn’t about me, it’s about showing the pack that no one can get away with treachery. They are your people, your responsibility as Alpha is to deliver justice. Let me help. I am your woman. Let me do what I can to relieve the stress off your body and let me do what I can to make her regret what she has done. Next time, if there would be a next time, I can swear that she would not do this again.”
Derek didn’t respond and Anna watched him, she could see his doubt seeping back in and knew there was no more time.
She leaned in close and her voice became softer, persuasive. “You’ve always been strong and fair. The pack respects you because you make the hard decisions.” She stepped back and gave him a sad half-smile. “But sometimes, delegating is part of being a leader.” Her eyes pleaded with him to understand and he didn’t know if it would be possible but she’d earned at least that much from him. “Trust me with this, and I swear to you I won’t disappoint you.”
Derek’s lips thinned into a line as his brows drew low over his eyes. “And just how the hell do you plan on ‘dealing’ with her?”
Anna hesitated for a moment before responding. “I’ll question her, make her confess everything she knows. If there are others involved in her betrayal, I’ll find out. And then… I’ll ensure she faces the consequences.”
Derek’s eyes searched hers as if trying to read her true intentions. “This sounds personal, Anna. Are you sure you can handle it without letting your emotions cloud your judgment?”
Anna placed a light but firm hand on his shoulder. "Let me handle it, Derek. For you. For the pack. And this is personal for me. She betrayed the pack, my pack. She doesn’t deserve to be treated well. She is a common criminal and she deserves no mercy.”
He blew out an unsteady breath, holding on to his frustration with iron willpower. "You're nothing if not persistent."
Anna smiled, she could practically feel his resolution crumbling. She brushed her lips against his ear, whispering softly, “Because I have faith in you Derek. Faith in the vision you have for our pack. Let me show you how truly loyal I can be.”
Derek’s shoulders went slack and he slowly nodded, “Okay… okay but Anna this is a heavy burden you're taking on… don’t make me wish I hadn't given it to you.”
Anna smiled wider and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. “Thank you, Alpha. You won’t regret it, I promise.”
She backed away and turned, walking toward the door with confidence in her steps.
‘‘Anna,” Derek called after her.
‘Yes, Derek?’ She looked back at him.
“Be careful,” he said.
Anna nodded, her smile never waning. “Always.”
And with that, she was gone, down the corridor and her mind already come alive with plans for where to go next.
Anna made her way through the dark, cold corridor of the dungeon. Her footsteps echoed off the wet stones and mingled with the musty smell of mildew. Two guards marched on either side of her, their faces hardened with duty as they led Anna to Lyra’s cell.Lyra was already sitting on the floor, leaning against a wall. Her eyes were down at first, but she raised them when she heard approaching steps and focused them steadily on Anna. Somehow, while imprisoned and awaiting interrogation from the elders of the pack, Lyra managed to make herself look like she wasn’t terrified even when her body showed a different story as she was shivering.Anna smirked, crossing her arms as she got to the cell and laughed.“Well, well, well, is that you my dear friend Lyra? I can’t believe this. Open it,” she ordered the guards. The larger of the two guards hesitated. “Are you sure, Miss Anna? She’s—”"Open it." Anna's voice was like a whip. "Do you think she's going to be any kind of threat to me? Look a
Derek walked through the cold, dark corridor of the dungeon. His boots made loud clunks against the grey stone walls. The two guards at the entrance looked up from their slouched positions when they saw him enter. They both stood at attention and bowed at their alpha.“Open the cell,” he ordered, his voice calm but authoritative. The guards looked at each other nervously and then unlocked the iron door. Derek entered, his piercing blue eyes assessing the small room. Lyra was on the floor, her battered and bloodied form propped against the icy wall. When Lyra heard the door open, she looked up slowly, her face a mix of weariness and defiance. Derek smirked, arms crossed as he gazed at her. “Well, well,” he mocked. “What have we here? The great Lyra brought low.”Lyra knew this fight was over and she looked away from the man. She didn’t care about him or what he wanted to do anymore. She just wanted to be on her own. “Look at me,” he said but she didn’t flinch. “I said look at me!”Hi
Lyra’s povTwo guards dragged me out of the cold, damp cell, their hands clamped so tightly on my arms that I winced. My legs threatened to give way underneath me, but they didn’t care; they simply pulled me through the darkness of the corridor, their boots thudding against the stone floor as I half-walked, half-stumbled in their wake.“Where are you taking me?” I asked, my voice cracking from exhaustion.“Shut up!” one of the guards snapped.I bit my lip to keep myself from asking anything else. My heart pounded in my chest and I felt fear claw itself through me. I didn’t know what it was that waited for me at the end of this hall but whatever it was, it couldn’t be good.At last, we stopped in front of a door and after one of the men unlocked it, they pushed me inside. I staggered and hit the hard wooden floor with enough force that pain shot up through my knees and settled as a throb at their cap. Looking around the room I found it empty except for one chair and a small table that
Lyra’s povI was curled up on the floor. It was hard and cold. For that day I had been looking around my room to see if there was anything I could do to help my place get better but this was my first time being in this part of the packhouse.I had served but not from this part of the pack as this was where the lowly servants were kept and I had always pitied them. Now I was here, it hurt me but I couldn’t do anything. I started to think of that strange man I had met in the bushes at that time. I wondered who he was but I shrugged. He was the one who had put me through all of this pain.I waited throughout the day until night came as I looked around for anything I could cover up with.It suddenly got cold but I had my arms around as I curled up even tighter and tried to keep warm.My body started to pain me from all the beatings I had received earlier and I was too tired to do anything about it.Trying to sleep was a luxury that I couldn’t even afford as I was too tired. The cold floor
Lyra’s povI walked out of the room, the cold stone floor biting at my feet. It was dark in the hallway, and silent. I walked down toward where I knew there were cleaning supplies. I found a bucket, a rag, and a tiny bottle of soap.I began to clean the floors and walls around me, my mind racing with the thought of escape. There had to be a way to get out of here.I crouched on the stairs, washing each one with the wet rag I held. The pain in my arms became unbearable and my knees ached after having knelt upon stone for so long. Each step succeeded another until they reached close to one hundred and I had washed them all, every fraction of an inch, while darkness lingered outside.I stood up to sigh as I stretched my back. “A hundred steps and counting,” I sighed as I let out a small sigh of relief as I finished cleaning the last step at the top. My back was aching, but I felt a small flicker of satisfaction. One less thing to do. I decided to go to the next task that Helga had plann
Lyra’s pov“Follow me.” He ordered again as I swallowed hard and wondered if he could not see that I was busy cleaning up his mate’s mess.It was almost like these people were after me today. Just this morning alone I had been poured cold water by hell knows what time, I had done multiple messages of cleaning and mopping just to be punished to mop everything all over again.I glanced at the floor, realizing I hadn’t even finished yet. “I’m still cleaning, Alpha,” I murmured, hopefully praying that he would understand and leave me be.His eyes flashed with a dangerous light and a low growl rumbled in his chest. “I said follow me.” His voice lowered in a threatening manner. “Or you will regret it.”I swallowed hard and shook my head. “Yes, I…” My mouth became so dry I couldn’t speak. Finally, I gasped out, “Yes Alpha.” He didn’t say anything else as he began walking away from me, his strong steps making the floor pulse beneath me. I hurried after him only to slip on the wet floor and l
Lyra’s pov He frowned at me and said, "You all right?" I slumped down in one of the empty chairs by the door, too tired to give a damn how I looked. “Okay?” I choked out with a bitter laugh. “Oh, how could I possibly be okay? The alpha sent me here on foot to deliver like five different piles of letters and now I don’t even know if I’m going to be alive long enough to get back. He’s… he’s evil. Wicked.” The man rose from where he was sitting and made his way over towards me cautiously, his eyes losing their edge and softening with something that looked almost like pity. “The alpha sent you here on foot?” “Yes,” I muttered, angrier than ever as I held up the crumpled papers and pointed to them as if they were my backup. “And then he’s called you and now I’m supposed to cart Twelve crates of documents all the way back to the pack house. On foot. One by one.” The guy winced, his mouth thinning into a line of silent comprehension before he ultimately said, “That sucks,” he said with
Lyra’s povI felt shaky all over, my body heavy like I had been carrying barbells on my limbs and my mind coated with a deep fog. How had I even gotten this far without dropping dead?Derek sat there behind the desk and looked at me the way a predator looks at its prey. It seemed like my words had hit him by surprise. In the corner of my eye, I saw the stable boy, holding a broom, looking on in shocked disbelief as I finally found the words to speak.“Alpha” I managed to whisper through a gasp “please… I can't, I need to rest. Stop sending me messages for now, please. I’ve done all you’ve asked and since morning I’ve worked myself to the bone.”The boy’s mouth dropped open and his eyes goggled at me in stunned disbelief. But Derek didn’t even waste a second glance at him. He merely nodded sharply at the stable boy, “Leave. Now.”The boy didn’t need to be told twice. He ran out of the room, and I heard the door shut and lock quietly behind him. The silence in the room that followed was
Lyra’s povAnna stared at me with such fury it almost knocked me back. I could see her raising the knife while threatening me as fear hit my chest. I held in my fear as I knew I wasn’t going to be scared of her anymore. I was done being afraid of her. No. It would not happen again.I held my full height and swallowed a gulp.“Did you hear me Lyra?” She asked as I sighed.“I’m not doing anything for you,” I said with a hard heart. Her expression immediately darkened. A twisted smile pulled at her lips, but it was not sweet—it held nothing but hate.“Excuse me?” She asked like she had not heard me well. “The hell did you just say to me?”I inhaled deeply and looked at her with a stern face, “I said that I wasn’t going to do anything for you. I’m done being your slave. I’m done.”The air around us suddenly got thick with rage before Anna lunged at me. I didn’t even have the time to jump out of the way as she grabbed me by the hair and pulled me into her. I tried to fight back before her
Authors povAnna balled up her fists, pushed away from the wall, and stormed down the corridor. This wasn’t over. She’d lost this time. But she wouldn’t stop until she’d gone farther than Lyra could ever have dreamed.Every step, every stair she climbed, her anger grew. If her charms didn’t work, she’d come up with something else. She always did.Anna got into her room and closed the door behind her with a slam. She fell against the door her chest was rising and falling with anger as she tried to hold her rage. She had failed to seduce King Greg, something no woman had ever failed to accomplish before him, and she wasn’t going to let that be the end of it. If not through charm, then what was so special about Lyra? She looked at the knife on her nightstand, an emblem of power in one’s final moments. It sat there silently whispering its deadly siren song. And she reached for it.But no, she stopped herself. Not yet at least. She couldn’t confront Lyra yet – not until she knew everything
Author’s povAnna woke up that morning with a fire in her belly. She wasn’t going to let anyone, Lyra included, steal her thunder and take the life she had built for herself. Her pack, her power, her position—she was not going to lose it all without a fight. She sat up in bed and stretched her arms over her head before using one hand to rake through the curtain of perfectly styled blond hair falling around on the pillow behind her head as she wore a devilish smirk. Today would be different. Today she would regain control over everything she had lost.Anna stood up and went over to the mirror. She smiled at her reflection. The sexy curves, flawless skin, and confidence in her eyes. “You still got it…” she whispered as she slightly tilted her head to the side to get a better view of herself. There was no way Lyra was going to come in here and take King Greg away from her. Anna knew what kind of men like him wanted. Power. Beauty. Charm. And she had all three.Looking away from the mirro
Lyra’s povAs Helga stood up I couldn’t help but look at her in surprise, because a few days ago, she was one of the people who hated me and made my life miserable. But now she was sitting beside me like an angel and being so gentle. It was like I didn't even know her. I took a breath gathering up all the courage I had built inside my body because the question within me had been itching to come out since she had been in my room.“Helga.” My voice called out.“Yes?” She turned to look at me. It took me a while to take in deep breath before deciding to ask the question that has been tearing me apart from within.“Why are you treating me nicely?”She paused at the door, hand on the handle. She didn’t turn to look at me immediately, but I saw her shoulders rise and fall as she let out a long breath. Eventually, she glanced back at me with weary eyes.“I never wanted to hurt you,” she said, almost like she regretted her past actions. “But I had no choice. No other options. I was under orde
Lyra’s povWalking onto the balcony the cool breeze of the evening hit my skin, it did nothing to steady the storm inside me. King Greg stood at the edge looking out over his fields. His presence alone was adding to my unease and no matter how much I tried I couldn’t stop myself from slightly trembling as I placed my hands on the balcony. He flicked his hand towards a chair next to him indicating for me to sit. “Please.” His voice was calm yet carried unquestionable authority.I swallowed hard but took his word and sat, gripping the armrests of the low chair. My heartbeat was so fast in my chest that it almost felt like it was going to burst out. When would I ever get used to being in this position with him, in a way that got results for both of us?After what seemed like forever, he turned to me directly, his eyes drilling into mine. He reached out and traced my lips with his thumb and I almost flinched from the contact, sucking air instinctively through a held breath. He nodded, app
Author’s povThe minute the meal was done, Greg the king got to his feet and waved everyone around away with his hand.“You can all go,” he said as they all scurried off. Lyra hurried to her feet as she was ready to leave when just as the alpha grabbed her by the wrist to stop her in her steps.“You…” he said to her in a deep voice with his gaze fixed on hers. “Stay.”Lyra’s breath hitched, but she nodded, trying to mask her nervousness. She was scared beyond words. With the maids and guards gone, yea was now alone with the lycan king as she held her breath to prevent herself from falling to the ground. Her heart pounded in her chest as she gulped once or twice to control its beating sound.Greg tipped his head, interest pulling at his brows. “Are you scared of me, Lyra?”Lyra’s throat dried up. “Yes,” she managed to rasp.Greg’s smirk broadened. “Good,” he repeated, letting go of her wrist. “Fear is what makes people obey. Just as I’ve given you all of this doesn’t mean I can’t take
Authors povKing Greg gazed down from his balcony of the grand packhouse. The sun was starting to set, painting everything in a golden light which only made Greg's eyes become piercing daggers for the wolves that were labouring in the fields below. He made sure to scrutinize all they did while looking at them. He wasn’t going to give any of them breaks. No. They don’t deserve it.Greg smiled as he saw them afraid of displeasing him as he liked how it was going. These wolves needed to be taught who was at the top of the food chain and it was the Lycans at the top of that chain."Has dinner been prepared?" he asked in his deep, commanding voice. The maids looked at each other nervously. They were all clearly frightened, and their hands shook as they clumsily twisted the aprons around their waists. Finally, one of the shorter maids, a pretty young girl with unusually wide-set eyes and a mass of thick black hair, stepped forward and stammered out her answer. Lyra’s povThe minute we got back to the throne room, I held the blue gown to my chest and felt its fabric being so soft to me. It was still like a movie to me as I couldn’t behave this was truly happening to me.When we reached the palace, the Alpha was waiting. He looked at me and saw how I was holding onto the gown. I could sss him roll his eyes before he spoke.“Give me one good reason why you are holding it like that?” He asked in a low voice as I gulped. I expected him to yell at me but he didn’t and it made me even more scared than I would usually be.I stuttered. “I-I’m sorry my lord.” Before I knew it, he turned to the guard standing beside me. “Go back in there and grab all of her clothes from where she took this and bring them out here too,” he told him. “let me go through them myself and choose a better one for you. I’m sure there should be more that should suit you.”I gasped in shock. “Alpha—”He held up his hand to silence me. “Everything the lady owns, you will take
Lyra’s povI was standing before the alpha while my hands were shaking as I couldn’t look at him. I was so afraid I kept my eyes on the ground. The alpha was not an ordinary Lycan. He was a monster. No one could tell what he was thinking and it was scary to see that this error had taken over the pack. But I could feel his eyes roaming over me. Eating up every inch of my battered self. My scraggly form, clad awkwardly in this dirty skin and poorly fitted in the tattered rags of clothing that hung limply along my undernourished body. My hair was knotted with dirt and looked like a place for a wild bird to nest in. I was not impressive to look at and I knew it.He waved me closer, and I paused before moving hesitantly toward him. I tried to steady my heart as it raced I didn’t know what he wanted or what he would do to me.“Why are you dressed like a slave?” he demanded.I gulped, lowering my head. “Because I’m a slave, Alpha,” I whispered. For a while there was silence, and then he spok
