Chapter 03: Lose Hope

Chapter 03: Lose Hope

I pressed my lips tightly as I stared at him. Isn't he going to defend me and send Giselle away? He promised to protect me and the child.

"What are you doing, Giselle?" he asked. His voice was surprisingly calm, catching me off guard. I expected him to be worried about me and the child, but he wasn’t. He remained serious yet calm.

I saw Giselle looking at me with a grin on her lips. She slowly approached Reagan, clinging to his arm. I immediately felt anger and pain. I hate to admit it, but could this be jealousy?

"I was telling her that I'm decorating the palace, including this room, for our wedding. But she and her maid are trying to stop us, yelling and offending me," she said, pretending to be hurt.

I took a deep breath to calm myself. He looked at me, trying to get some words from me. I looked away. "Offending? You were the first to offend Lady Selina. You barged in, destroying her things, and said nasty words!" Jiya shouted, making me look at her.

I shook my head, "Don't." She stood up from the floor and wiped the blood from the side of her lip. "You slapped my lady even though you knew she was pregnant. You wanted her to kneel and lick your shoes. Is that what the king's fiancée would do? Bullying someone who didn't even do anything bad to you," her voice held anger.

Please, Jiya. Don't do it. I don't want you to be in danger. She walked towards me and stood in front of me. She looked straight at Giselle, glaring at her sharply.

"You're lying! I wouldn't do that, right everyone?" Giselle said defensively. Everyone nodded to side with Giselle. I know that no one will save us now. I saw Reagan look at me; there was a hint of worry on his face, but it only lasted a few seconds.

"Giselle slapped you?" he asked me. If I tell the truth, will he believe me? I think he would still choose to believe Giselle because she is his fiancée.

"I did not! Why would I hurt a pregnant woman? I'm not that crazy!" Giselle yelled. He was still looking at me as if he didn't care about what Giselle was saying. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. "She's right," I answered.

Jiya immediately looked at me. She couldn't believe what I said. "But my lady, she hurt you." I smiled at her and held her hand, pulling her behind me.

"Don't talk, Jiya," I said. She hesitated at first but then shut her mouth and nodded. Giselle smirked at what she was seeing. I hate that smirk on her lips. One day, I will be the reason she won't be able to smirk like that.

"See. I didn't hurt her," she said. I bit my lower lip. "I want her out of my room now," I said firmly. Giselle's brow furrowed.

"I want them to fix my room before they leave," I added. They all stared at me. "My lady, please. Don't let them humiliate you like this," Jiya pleaded.

"It's okay, Jiya. All I want is for them to leave now," I said calmly. Jiya looked at me like she wanted to cry. Silly her. Her lips are swollen, yet she's worrying about me.

"No, we won't leave. I'm telling you. I'm decorating this place the way I want," Giselle insisted. I sighed and looked at her. "Not this place, Giselle,” I almost begged.

She raised an eyebrow, "I won't allow it. Reagan already agreed. You can't do anything about it," she said. I looked at Reagan to confirm if what she said was true.

He remained staring at me. It seemed he had no intention of answering this matter either. "As far as I know, this place is mine. No one can touch it, not even him," I said, looking away from him.

He pressed his lips tightly. Is that it? He has no intention of speaking. "Reagan, explain!" Giselle demanded. He let out a sigh and stood straight. His cold eyes bore into mine. I got a bad feeling about this.

"I think you misunderstood my word, Selina. You're here under my protection, but that doesn't mean you can own this place. You're only here to give me an heir, so bear with it. Just focus on taking care of yourself and my child."

I tried to open my mouth to talk but ended up closing it again. I was speechless. I bit my inner lip tightly. I could taste my own blood.

"Your Majesty--" I immediately held Jiya. "Don't meddle," I warned her. She was crying now. Reagan, you're being heartless to me.

"A breeder, I see that's all you think of me," I said, my voice trembling. I nodded. Tears escaped from my eyes but I quickly wiped it. "So, did you really agree to let them throw away and destroy my things?" My voice was close to cracking.

I couldn't hold my anger anymore. I feel like I want to scream all the pain inside my heart. But I chose to calm myself. I couldn't act recklessly.

I saw that he was about to explain, but Giselle stopped him. She held his hand, "Don't explain. You don't need to explain to someone like her. And besides, this luxurious room doesn't suit her," she said, smirking devilishly.

I watched her hand caress his chest. I looked away. I hate everything. Does he want me to be humiliated like this? How could he be gentle with me when it's just the two of us?

He let out a sigh, "She's right. I'll move you to the western wing. Your maid will show you the way," Reagan said. His voice was void of any emotion. I should expect this, but his words crushed all my hope for us. It breaks me to hear that he agreed with Giselle.

He wanted to isolate me. Oh, right, who am I? Just as he said, I am merely a breeder. Why did I forget my place in this kingdom? I laughed painfully.

I looked at him with disappointment. Even though I didn't expect him to defend me, this is too much. It's painful.

You said you love me. Why are you doing this to me? His actions confused me. Sometimes he makes me feel loved, but often he doesn't.

"You're cruel, Reagan." After saying that, I pulled Jiya out of the room. I walked quickly until we were far away.

"My Lady..." Jiya's voice made me cry even more. She stopped me from walking and hugged me tightly. "I'm sorry, my lady. I feel bad for you," she started crying too.

I can't do this anymore. The last hope I had for him gradually faded. I can't trust him anymore. I will leave this place as soon as possible.

I hold onto the railing on the balcony while looking around. Everyone inside the palace had been busy since the day I moved to the western wing. I let out a sigh, “It’s been three months,” I murmured.

I don’t know much about what’s going on outside this thick wall. I was locked here for three months, and only Jiya could visit me frequently. While Reagan, it seems like he had forgotten about me.

I bite my lips, trying to hold back my tears. He said he loved me, but he did not even bother to explain everything. I looked up and chuckled, “Your love for me is swallow. You should have told me the truth rather than telling flowery yet dishonest words.”

“You never love me. You’re only showing me kindness because I’m carrying your child.” I laughed the pain away. “I hate you. After tonight, I will never see you again, never,” I promised.

“Selina, you need to go inside now,” I heard someone say. I sigh, looking back. She’s staring at me with disgust in her eyes. She’s one of Giselle’s servants. She sends someone to bully me again.

I’m so sick of this. I didn’t talk and just followed her. As soon we got inside, someone talked mockingly. “You’re lucky we can’t hurt you because you’re carrying the king’s child. But your luck won’t be forever. Now that you lose the king’s favor, your life will be hell as soon you give birth.”

I remained calm. Don’t fight back, Selina. This is the last time you’ll bear their nonsense. “Cut your tongue?” they all laughed. “Please, just leave,” I said calmly. “How does it feel to see the king marry our future queen?”

Why are they telling me this? What will they gain? Giselle’s favor? I doubt it. She can see them as nothing but a pawn. “I’m serious. Leave me alone.”

One of them grabbed my arm, pulling me close. Her grip is hurting me, “Let me go,” I said while struggling. But she didn’t release me. Instead, she tightened her grip. My arm bled as her nails dug into my skin.

“Let me go! You’re hurting me!” I started to yell, hoping Jiya would come. I couldn’t move well because my baby was bigger. In less than a month, I expect to give birth. They can’t seriously bully me.

“You bitch! How dare you act almighty? The king doesn’t want you anymore—” She didn’t finish her words because someone barged in and quickly slapped her face. Jiya! She’s here now.

Giselle’s servant let my arm go and took a step back. “What do you think you are doing with my lady?!” Jiya screamed angrily.

They all stepped back. They knew Jiya wouldn’t hold back herself. “The king no longer favors her, Jiya. Just leave her already.” Jiya glared at her.

“Who are you to tell me what I need to do? You’re nothing but a maid like me. And stop harassing my lady, or else this will reach the king.” The three maidens in front of us grinned.

“Oh yeah. The king didn’t even bother to visit her.” I clenched my jaw and looked away. I hate to admit they were right.

“But I can tell. I can go now and say it to him,” she challenged them. They were caught off guard and backed away a few times.

“Whatever, Jiya. But let me give you some advice. Leave her now and earn Her Royal Highness’ favor early. Who knows, she will spare your life as soon she sits on the throne,” one of them said, smirking.

I bit my inner lips. They were right. I’m starting to reconsider dragging Jiya with the mess I will do. She deserves better. I was about to talk, but Jiya stopped me.

“Tell Your Royal Majesty to go and fuck herself. I don’t care about her. If I lose my life serving my lady, then it’s an honor,” she said firmly. I looked at her on the verge of crying. Her words touch my heart and soul.

Jiya, you’re a good friend.

“As you said so.” They all rolled their eyes before leaving. As soon as the door closed, Jiya’s face turned serious.

“Tomorrow is the perfect time to escape. Everyone will be busy for the king and Giselle’s wedding.”
