Kayla's POV

The night did go terrible after all. Nice going Kayla, you could have just kept quiet. But I couldn't help but wonder, why was the topic so sensitive? Who was she, and why did just the mention of her make him so furious?

I pushed the plate away, my appetite gone. I left the dining room and made my way to my bedroom. As I entered my room, I let out a sigh, then I changed out of the dress I’d worn for the dinner.

Slipping into bed, I hoped sleep would bring some peace. Sleep didn’t come easily, but eventually, I drifted off, the questions still swirling in my mind.

The next morning, sunlight filtered through the curtains, waking me gently. I sat up, rubbing my eyes as I tried to shake off the remnants of the night’s uneasy thoughts. There was a knock at the door, and Azel stepped in, carrying a tray with breakfast.

“Good morning,” she said, placing the tray on the small table by the window.

“Morning,” I replied, my voice still groggy from sleep.
