The Lycan King's POV
I woke up as the first rays of dawn filtered through the heavy curtains of my chamber. Stretching out, an uneasy feeling gnawed at the edges of my consciousness, something didn't feel right. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood, running a hand through my tousled hair. The events of the past few days replayed in my mind, centering around a particular servant girl who had unexpectedly captured my attention. Kayla. I couldn't shake the memory of our night together. She was different from any other woman I had known, and despite my better judgment, I found myself drawn to her. Her vulnerability had awakened a protective instinct within me, a feeling I wasn't accustomed to. But it was more than just that. There was an undeniable connection, a bond that had formed, and I needed to understand it. I recalled overhearing her stepfamily confronting her about being pregnant. The possibility of the child being mine was high, as I remembered being the one to take her virginity that night. The thought unsettled me, stirring up conflicting emotions I couldn't quite understand. My thoughts were interrupted by a sharp knock on the door. "Come in," I called out, my voice rough from sleep. One of the guards stepped in, his expression grave. "Your Majesty, we have a situation. The servant girl, Kayla, has fled the castle grounds." My heart jumped, and I felt a surge of panic I couldn't explain. "When did this happen? Have you searched the premises?" The guard shook his head. "Not yet, Your Majesty. We were alerted by her stepfamily, who claim they witnessed her attempting to escape." Anger flared within me. How dare they let her leave without informing me first? "Gather a search party immediately," I ordered, my tone brooking no argument. "I want her found and brought back to the castle at once." The guard bowed and swiftly exited, leaving me to gather my thoughts. I couldn't fathom why Kayla's disappearance affected me so deeply, but I knew I wouldn't rest until she was found and safe within these walls once more. As the sun rose higher in the sky, the search party fanned out across the castle grounds and into the surrounding forest. I paced restlessly, my mind conjuring up various scenarios, each more unsettling than the last. Where could she have gone? Was she in danger? Hours ticked by with no word from the search teams. My frustration mounted, and I was about to join the search myself when a commotion at the castle gates drew my attention. Striding out, I saw a group of guards escorting a disheveled and frightened Kayla back into the courtyard. Relief washed over me, quickly replaced by a simmering anger at her reckless actions. "Kayla," I said, my voice sharp. "Care to explain yourself?" She flinched at my tone, her eyes downcast as she remained silent. Her stepfamily approached, sneering triumphantly. "Isn't it obvious, Your Majesty?" her stepsister, Lily, taunted. "The little whore is having a child, and she was trying to run away and hide her shame." My jaw clenched at her crude words, but before I could respond, Kayla spoke up, her voice trembling but defiant. "I am pregnant, yes," she admitted, lifting her chin. "But I will not disclose the father's identity. It is my choice whether to keep the child or not." Lily scoffed. "You have no choice in the matter. You will tell us who the father is, or suffer the consequences." As they pressed her further, demanding answers, I saw the fear in Kayla's eyes. I wanted to speak up and tell them I was the father but I resisted the urge to do so. “Let her go and rest up, when day breaks we will have this conversation,” I said to them and turned to leave, making sure Kayla left before I did. They reluctantly stepped back, allowing Kayla to leave. I watched her retreating figure, my mind racing with thoughts of what was to come. Once everyone had dispersed, I followed Kayla to her quarters. She looked exhausted and scared, and I knew I needed to speak with her alone. "Kayla," I said gently, closing the door behind me. "I need to know the truth. Are you truly pregnant?" She nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. "Yes, Your Majesty. I am." My heart pounded in my chest. "And the father? Is it... me?" Kayla looked down, her hands trembling. "Yes, Your Majesty. The child is yours." A mix of relief and dread washed over me. I had suspected as much, but hearing it confirmed was a different matter entirely. "Why didn't you tell me?" I asked softly. "I was scared," she admitted, her voice breaking. "I didn't know what to do. I thought running away might be my only option." I took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm of emotions within me. "You should have come to me, instead of running away. “All right then , you need to rest. Tomorrow, we will confront this head-on." Kayla nodded, looking slightly reassured. "Thank you, Your Majesty." I left her quarters with different thoughts running through my head , knowing the storm that awaited us the next day ************************** THE NEXT MORNING Tension in the air was palpable as the entire household gathered in the great hall. Kayla stood in the center, her eyes darting around nervously. Her stepfamily was there, their expressions smug and expectant. "We will now hear the truth," Lily announced, stepping forward. "Kayla, tell us who the father is." Kayla remained silent, her hands clasped tightly in front of her. The room was silent, every eye trained on her. "I... I can't," she finally stammered, her voice barely audible. Lily's eyes narrowed. "You will tell us, or you will face the consequences." Kayla's silence stretched on, her fear evident. I could no longer stand by and watch her suffer. "I am the father," I declared, stepping forward. “What!!” Lily and Josh yelled Shocked gasps rippled through the crowd as all eyes turned to me. Kayla's gaze met mine, filled with a mix of relief and astonishment. The hall buzzed with murmurs and whispers as the weight of my words settled over everyone. "Kayla's child is mine," I continued, my voice strong and unwavering.Kayla's POV Azel’s jaw dropped to the floor. “Me?” She looked thunderstruck.I nodded, grinning from ear to ear. “I can't think of anyone better for the position”“But my lady, why me? Your kids deserve the best, a wealthy lady who can cater to their needs, not a maid”“Shh, I stopped her. “You're not just a maid to me. You're a friend Azel and it is not a proposition it's an order. You will be my twins’ godmother”Her hands flew up and found mine, “I’m honored my lady” she squealed, elated.I cupped her cheeks, wiping a tear that slipped down her jowls. “I’m sure they can't wait to meet you”“Me too,” she changed her stance, placing her hands in front of her, returning back to her maiden character. “Let's get you ready for the night”***Kayla, please…No.Kayla you have to help me before it's too late, help me Kayla! My eyes snapped open as I jolted awake, my breath ragged and my heart plummeting in my rib cage. I held my hands in my head as I recalled the nightmare vividly. There
Kayla's POV “Good, we should head back, it's getting late,” Raymond noted and I nodded in approval. We were about to leave when a feminine voice stopped us.“Kayla.”My brows knitted it sounded somewhat familiar before I could turn around my brain recognized who it was.Dr. Clara, my obstetrician.“You have been avoiding me,” she said, plainly folding her arms. That wasn't the case but from her perspective it must have looked that way. Azel kept reminding me but for one mental breakdown to another I never acknowledged her letters. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she watched me scramble for words.“You knew I had been asking for an appointment. Yet you never came.”I shifted my weight feeling a tad guilty, it wasn't my intention genuinely. Before I could defend myself, her eyes looked past me, her expression changed immediately.“Beta Raymond,” she greeted politely, her tone changing instantly, almost flirtatious.Couldn't blame her, the man was worth crushing hard on, too bad he was mor
Kayla's POV In my wolf form, I padded closer, the bridge of my nose twitching for a scent. Whoever had done this may still be lurking around.Angling my head I sniffed the air and listened for a sound but there was no other. Expect the slowing heart beat of the victim.I crept a little closer, watching his chest rise and fall in shallow breaths. My heart tightened, torn between fear and compassion. I circled him slowly, scanning again, desperate for any hint of danger. But still, the air carried no one else’s scent. Just him.I lowered my head, inhaling closer. His wounds were fresh, deep gashes that I suspected were inflicted by a wolf.I hesitated for one last second, then made my choice.Carefully, I lowered my body, shifting my weight so I could nudge him up onto my back. My wolf grunted under his weight, my legs trembling as I lifted him. He groaned faintly, but he didn’t wake. Which was a good sign, he was alive and I could still save him.I did my best to run through the wood
Kayla’s POV“What do you want Kayla?” Klaus was the first to speak.I blinked up at him, my heart cold devoid of the warmth the bond left.Couldn't he feel it too?Or did he not care?Maybe replacing me with Lily was enough for him to care about what we shared. For a long, breathless second I couldn’t move, couldn’t think, only feel the hollow emptiness gnawing inside me.“You need to leave.” Klaus' voice snapped me out of my stupor. My lips parted, my throat dry, but I forced the words out. “I need to speak to you. Alone.” My eyes flicked to Lily, who smiled smugly. She had been on Kain’s side once, who's to tell if she wasn't still his puppet.“My belly…” Lily moaned, pressing a hand to her flat stomach, her face contorting as though she were in unbearable pain. “Klaus, it's hurting again. I need to rest.”Klaus immediately turned to her, his expression softening in a way that twisted my gut. “Hold on,” he murmured to Lily, concern flickering across his face. Then his head snapped b
"Kayla?!"The voice sounded distant through the bells in my ears. I slipped in and out of consciousness, my head thudding lightly.“Kayla” I heard the voice say and mentally I could tell I was wrapped in someone's arms.It took a while but soon I blinked until shapes steadied and the dark hue disappeared. The first thing I saw was Raymond’s face hovered way too close above mine. Relief and worry clashed in his eyes.A weak chuckle escaped me. He looked weird spinning in front of me.His brow furrowed deeper as he leaned back. “You think this is funny?” His tone carried more fear than anger. My vision steadied enough to see I wasn't floating, I was on the floor. My body ached, though not sharply. I shifted, groaning as I tried to gather myself. Raymond helped me up and instinctively I rubbed my belly taking deep breaths.“Are you okay?” Raymond questioned, concerned. I nodded in affirmation there was no serious pain and the blood stains on my hand had his hand prints.I should have b
Kayla's POV She was alive. I tried convincing myself as I took the scene in front of me.Subconsciously, my hand unfastened the seat belt, and I was out the door, my pulse thudding in my ears.I had barely taken two steps when a strong hand wrapped around my arm.“Kayla, wait.” Raymond’s voice came through, stopping me in my tracks. I turned, startled, and saw the sharp edge of worry cutting across his face.“There was an attack here, the perpetrators may still be around you can’t walk in there blindly” he warned, his eyes scanning the street as if expecting something to leap out and attack. My pulse kicked up a gear, his words only fueling my worry. We could still be able to stop whoever did this, the seer might be in trouble the moment we were having this conversation.“I’ll be fine” I assured trying to walk past him but he blocked my path.“That’s for me to take care of, stay here” he whispered, turning around to face the building. For a second, I thought he was overreacting.
