After the herbalist informed about my pregnant status, I decided to go to the nearby clinic to be sure I was truly pregnant.
The big stone walls of the castle felt like they were closing in on me as I got back with different thoughts clouding my head. I could feel the eyes of my three step-siblings as they stared at me from across the huge hall as I walked in. I knew one of them would ask where I had been. Sure enough, as I reached the top of the stairs, my step brother’s voice called out to me at the same time, their voices sharp and accusing. “where have you been?" I took a deep breath and turned to face the three of them, getting ready for the argument that would no doubt ensue. But before I could say anything, my step brother eyes saw the crumpled piece of paper I was holding in my hand. I tried to hide it behind my back, but he was too quick. With a swift move, he walked up to me, snatched the paper from my hand and unfolded it. My insides twisted with dread as I witnessed their eyes devouring the contents of that paper. It revealed the result of a pregnancy test. My stepsister's lips curled into a wicked grin as she raised her gaze to meet mine, her eyes alight with malicious delight. "Well, well, well," she taunted with a sneer. "Look who has been sleeping around with different men and pretending to be innocent? I knew it, you’re just a cheap slut hiding under the image of an innocent maid.” My step brother moved closer to me dragging me by the arm towards him. “Who is the father you bitch?” He yelled, I bent my head, my eyes on my worn out shoes and refused to say a word. When they saw that I wasn’t saying anything they laughed and cackled in delight. Their loud laughter bounced off the walls. Hearing them laugh felt like my heart was being stabbed by hot knives. Lily gave me a nasty look , she made me feel very uncomfortable and worthless. Then she said cruel words that I'll never forget. "You're just a cheap whore! A poor one who can't even keep her mate! I will quickly tell the pack members about this. And I'll for sure tell the Lycan King.” she threatened, enjoying my current state of despair. My heart pounded in my chest as Lily's threat hung in the air. Telling the Lycan King about my condition would surely worsen the whole situation for me, How would they react when they find out the king was the father of my unborn child? I had to get out of there before she made good on her promise. "Please..." I begged, voice trembling. "Don't tell the King. I'll leave the castle grounds, you'll never have to see me again. Just give me a chance to escape." Lily's cruel smile only widened at my plea. "And what fun would that be? No, I think the King deserves to know what a whore you truly are." The weight of their harsh words felt like a heavy weight pressing down on my shoulders. Before I could gather my courage to respond, I noticed the Lycan King himself striding towards us, his piercing gaze taking in the scene. It seemed my stepsister's loud voice had disturbed his rest. I knew facing him in this state, with the shameful news of my pregnancy, would be disastrous. Without a word, I turned and fled to my chamber, tears streaming down my face. I collapsed onto my bed, body wracked with sobs. Part of me feared one of my stepfamily would come question me, but the night passed in sorrowful solitude as I robotically packed my things. I eventually cried myself into an uneasy slumber. I awoke with a start sometime after midnight, moonlight filtering through my window. The moon's gentle glow called to me. "Dear moon goddess, grant me your guidance," I whispered. Fear and the need to protect myself made me feel a rush of energy. I quickly got up, picked my meager belongings I had deemed useful and ran down the nearest hallway, not caring where I went, as long as it was away from them. Everyone was supposed to be asleep by now. Suddenly, the distinct sound of footsteps resonated through the corridor, piercing through the silence. My breath hitched, and I froze in my tracks, straining my ears to decipher the origin of the sound. I immediately hid in a corner as I caught sight of two members of the pack. They looked tired, and seemed like they were retreating from their patrol to go get some sleep as they walked past me. As they passed, I held my breath, praying to the moon goddess that they wouldn't detect my presence. My mind raced with imagined scenarios - would they catch me? But all those fears dissolved in the air when their voices continued to fade into the distance. Relief washed over me as I allowed myself a moment, my legs trembled from the strain of staying still for so long. Slowly, I allowed my breathing to return to normal, trying to steady the erratic beats of my heart. Gathering my wits, I took a cautious step forward, peering around to make sure they were truly gone. A sigh of relief escaped my lips when I confirmed that I was safe, at least for the time being. I don't know how long I sprinted through all the hallways and stairs, but eventually I burst through a side door and made it outside to the gardens in the moonlight. My chest was heaving as I frantically looked around for any sign anyone was chasing me. That's when I noticed the trees lining the outer castle walls. If I could climb up one and make it over the top... Not wasting any more time, I dashed towards the tree line, silently praying I could make it over before being caught. My head was spinning badly, but I wasn’t sure what the cause was. but I did not let that stop me from the task at hand- running away. Digging my fingers into the twisted bark, I started to climb, every muscle straining with the effort. I couldn't let myself look down, or the dizzying height might make me freeze in fear. “Just keep moving, keep moving...”I whispered, encouraging myself. Finally, I pulled myself up to straddle a high branch, level with the top of the stone wall. The forest stretched out in front of me on the other side, the promise of escape was so close. I just had to jump... A booming voice shattered my focus. "Who is there?!” “I said, who is there?” The voice echoed againThe Lycan King's POVI woke up as the first rays of dawn filtered through the heavy curtains of my chamber. Stretching out, an uneasy feeling gnawed at the edges of my consciousness, something didn't feel right. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood, running a hand through my tousled hair. The events of the past few days replayed in my mind, centering around a particular servant girl who had unexpectedly captured my attention.Kayla.I couldn't shake the memory of our night together. She was different from any other woman I had known, and despite my better judgment, I found myself drawn to her. Her vulnerability had awakened a protective instinct within me, a feeling I wasn't accustomed to. But it was more than just that. There was an undeniable connection, a bond that had formed, and I needed to understand it.I recalled overhearing her stepfamily confronting her about being pregnant. The possibility of the child being mine was high, as I remembered being the one to
Kayla’s point of view.I stood there, trembling, as the Lycan King's words echoed through the great hall. He had just told everyone that he was the father of my baby. I couldn't believe it."What?!" Lily and Josh yelled at the same time.Everyone in the room started whispering and looking at me. I felt my face get hot with embarrassment. The king walked over to me and put his hand on my shoulder. "Kayla is carrying my child," he said again, his voice strong and sure. "I will not allow anyone to harm her or the baby."Lily's face turned red with anger. "But... but how could you?" she sputtered. "I thought... I thought we...""Silence," the king growled. Lily shut her mouth quickly, but I could see the hatred in her eyes.Josh stepped forward, looking hurt and angry. "How could you do this to us?" he asked the king. "She's just a servant! And after everything her family did to ours!"I wanted to sink into the floor. I hated being the center of all this drama."That's enough," the king
Lily's POVI stormed into my room, slamming the door behind me. How dare she? How dare that little nobody steal MY king? I had worked so hard, planned so carefully, and now it was all ruined because of Kayla."That stupid, clumsy girl," I muttered, pacing back and forth. "She must have tricked him somehow. There's no way the king would willingly choose her over me."I caught sight of myself in the mirror and stopped. My face was flushed with anger, my hair a mess from running my hands through it in frustration. This wouldn't do. I couldn't let that servant girl see how much she'd affected me.Taking a deep breath, I smoothed my hair and fixed my makeup. I needed to think, to plan. This wasn't over, not by a long shot. There was a knock at my door. "What?" I snapped.Josh walked in, looking as angry as I felt. "Can you believe this?" he fumed. "After everything we've done for him, the king chooses that... that murderer to carry his heir? He didn’t even consider how we would feel about
Kayla's POVThe Lycan King’s words echoed in my head even as the hall fell into a stunned silence. I didn't expect him to own up to my child, especially knowing I was weak and a servant in my own home.My stepfamily stood there, slack-jawed and incredulous. Lily’s eyes were wide with a mix of anger and shock. Her mouth opened and closed as if she wanted to say something, but no words came out. Josh’s face was a mask of disbelief. He looked at me as if I had betrayed him in some unforgivable way.“Your Majesty,” Lily finally managed, her voice trembling slightly, “are you seriously saying you’re the father of Kayla’s child?”“Yes,” the King said coldly, his gaze icy. “And I will take responsibility for the child. Any attempts to remove Kayla from this pack or to treat her poorly will not be tolerated.”Lily’s face turned a deeper shade of red. “But this is outrageous! How can you claim—”The King cut her off with a wave of his hand, his expression hardening. “I am not interested in yo
Kayla's POVI stood there, stunned, as the Lycan King’s words hit me. “Gather your things. You’re leaving this house,” he said, his tone unyielding. My heart pounded. “Are you sure?” I asked, my voice shaking. “I mean, are you really certain about this?”“Yes, Kayla. I am sure, you look terrible if you continue this way you'll suffer a miscarriage I can't let you suffer this way anymore. You have one day to prepare. If you’re not ready, I will ensure you are.”The finality in his tone left no room for negotiation. A mix of relief and anxiety churned inside me. Relief, because I was finally being rescued from this torment, and anxiety, because I had no idea what awaited me.Josh, on the other hand, was furious. His face was twisted in anger as he stormed out, cursing under his breath. The King watched him leave with an indifferent expression before turning his attention back to me.“Don’t worry about your step family,” the King said, his voice still commanding but a bit softer. “You sh
Kayla POVI held onto the wall for support as I felt my legs turn to jelly. They weren't even considering what I wanted, they didn't even talk about me like I was a human being, more like a dog or a toy he could use and toss aside anytime he wantedI felt tears welling up, but I fought them back. I turned slowly, retreating from the balcony, forcing one foot in front of the other. The way he spoke made my heart ache more than I expected, it was meant to be a distraction, an escape from the pain I should've been feeling the way I did but I couldn't help it.Unable to walk further I sat on a nearby bench, my hands resting on my swollen belly, trying to calm the turbulent emotions inside me. Was I really willing to go through the pain of childbirth, only for him to take my baby away? The mere thought of it was unbearable.“What are you doing out here!” a familiar voice called out, startling me.I looked up to see Lily standing nearby, her face twisted into a sneer. She peered at me curio
The Lycan King's POVAn abortion?AN ABORTION!!?I had expected many things, but this was beyond what I had anticipated. The shock of her request hit me like a cold wave, leaving me momentarily speechless.“An abortion?” I repeated out loud, trying to process the gravity of what she was asking. “You want to end my child’s life?”Kayla nodded, she was practically shivering under my gaze. “Yes. I can’t do this. I don’t want to be tied to you or this situation.”My blood boiled at her words. How dare she ask for something so drastic? It felt like an insult, a direct challenge to my position.Did she know how many would kill to be her position? Before I vent my frustration, Lily stepped forward, her face contorted with anger.“How dare you?” she yelled, her voice dripping with disdain.Slap! The sound echoed through the room as she slapped Kayla hard across the face. “You ungrateful wretch! How dare you insult the King like this?”Kayla stumbled back, her hand flying to her cheek, her eye
Kayla's POVMy heart plummeted as The King’s cold, hard gaze burned through me… he looked at me like I was some kind of monster before storming away with Lily attached at his side. What did I just say? I wasn't thinking I… I only wanted to protect myself. It was the only way I could protect my heart, the only way I could keep from falling apart. He didn't understand, he couldn’t understand. I didn’t want to carry this child only to have it taken away from me the moment it was born. I didn’t want to suffer through the pain of bringing life into the world just to be left with nothing but emptiness. It wasn’t that I hated the baby; I just couldn’t bear the thought of losing it after it was born.I held a chair for support, feeling my legs turn to jelly, the tears I had kept at bay suddenly broke through its walls.“Kayla.”I jumped at the sound of my name, my breath catching in my throat. I turned to see Josh standing a few feet away, a smirk playing on his lips. He looked amused, his ey
