One thing Hazel knew was that she needed allies. There was no way she was going to take out her plan alone.
And there was only one way she knew she could gain allies –money.
This complicated her situation the more.
It was more like this mission was out to challenge her rather than her just killing these Alphas. Every time she crossed over a stumbling block, another came rolling her way.
With her head slumped backward and her eyes closed, she thought of ways she could get money.
She placed the back of her hand against her head. Despite the cool breeze blowing, her temperature was high.
Her head was probably overheating due the amount of thoughts that went through her mind per second.
She had nothing she could sell.
She could not even beg for money. That would draw too much attention to her and it would be easier to remember the redhead beauty who had begged for money.
Damn it!
She had only one option –to steal, but as easy as it seemed, it was not.
She had never been one to steal anything when growing up, that had always been Maeve's turf so she did not have an experience or an inclination on how to go ahead with it.
Stealing the dress and the shoes earlier on had been much easier but stealing money would not be. But she desperately needed to get her hands on money —lots of it.
She immediately remembered that she actually did have an ally.
"Raglan?" Hazel called out in a small voice.
She got no response.
She needed to ask if he could help her.
"Raglan?" Hazel called out again, this time, much more loudly than she had the first time in hopes that Raglan would hear her but she got the same response.
Silence.
She needed to sleep then, she thought. Perhaps he could only communicate through dreams.
Try as she may, Hazel could not fall asleep. Her mind kept on drifting to other things rather than sleep.
After about an hour of trial and failure, she gave up.
She flung her eyes open and the amber of frustration in her blazed, causing her green eyes to look like a green furnace.
Since that bastard was not going to help her, she would as well prove to him that she did not need any of his help.
In anger, she got off the sofa and stumped out of the gazebo.
She was really in such fury that –unlike her, she totally ignored the beauty of the garden.
She was still in that rage as she left the palace grounds and marched back to the town, this time however she took the road rather than the little path through the forest.
Hazel had never been one to accommodate negative emotions but in the past days, Hazel had practically been dwelling in such emotions.
Her mind has been a whirlwind of anger, sadness, regrets, and worst of all, hate.
They were already becoming one with her soul and she was gradually forgetting what it felt like to be happy.
And with every decision she made, she became less and less of the person she used to be.
The Hazel of the past would have been gleefully walking down the road she was currently threading, appreciating the beauty of nature, picking flowers to go put in the blue ceramic flower vase that sat on the dining table, listening to the beautiful songs the birds whistled and letting her hair fly with the wind.
But today, she stomped through, not giving a damn about anything.
All she did was curse.
She cursed every single person that had contributed to leading her down this path.
She even cursed Raglan with death for luring her into taking such an offer without giving her a good bargain.
She was so engrossed with her evil chore that she did not hear the sound of the approaching car nor did she hear the sound of the repeated honking behind her.
"Are you deaf?" The rugged voice of an angry man called out from behind, cutting short her cursing session.
Hazel nearly jumped out of her skin in fright.
"I'm —I'm sorry," she stammered, shaken by the sudden interruption as she moved to the side.
She stared in shock at the sleek beautiful black Ford Anglia which was parked behind her with its engine still running. The head of its driver stuck out of the window a little.
"You better watch your back! Except you have a wish on meeting with the devil," the man retorted back harshly.
If only he knew she had already checked that off her bucket list, Hazel thought concerning the man's remarks.
She stood watching –still trying to get a hold of herself, as the car slowly drove by.
As the rear end of the car came into view, not only was her sight filled with the beautiful shiny car but a beautiful face added to it.
Her eyes locked on the most beautiful blue eyes she had ever seen and her gaze followed the blue eyes till it was out of sight.
She snapped out of her trance and continued on her trip back to the town but this time, she took a more familiar route –through the forest.
Her encounter with the car and the beautiful man who was seated behind it had reminded her that she had to be cautious.
That could have been someone from Kael's pack who could have recognized her.
Her mind had been too preoccupied that she had totally forgotten to be careful.
She walked into town late in the evening.
She wandered around aimlessly, not knowing what to do or where to go.
She still had no incline of how she was going to get the money she needed. All she knew was that she needed to steal it. But how, she had no idea.
It was as she was moving about aimlessly that she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder.
Surprised, she turned her head sharply thereby landing her eyes on a familiar set of blue eyes.
"I had a feeling I would be seeing you again."
A voice which in Hazel's opinion should be considered lethal as it could render anyone helpless with the beauty of it, escaped from lips she had seen before.
Hazel was not sure whether she was in shock at the fact that she was gazing at such beauty or the fact that she was talking to this person who was a complete stranger.
Well, not entirely a stranger. He was the owner of the beautiful set of eyes that had locked on hers as she watched the car pass by her earlier.
Hazel did not reply to the man's earlier comment. All she did was just stare in shock, and then later fear.
The fear started to trickle into Hazel, little by little as her brain analyzed the man's statement.
Had he perhaps seen her before their encounter earlier on?
Could he have been present last night at Kael's party?
The man standing before her let out a smile that contrasted the mixture of fear and shock that was on hers.
"I am sorry for barging up on you like that. I just wanted to say hello to you since we were not able to do so at our earlier meeting," the man said.
Hazel made to open her lips and respond but she shut it once again. She feared that if she opened her mouth to speak, her voice would sound like it was coming from someone strapped to an electric chair and so she simply nodded her head.
"I am Sam, nice to meet you," The man said with an arm stretched out towards her.
Hazel took the hand and offered a handshake, "I am Ha–" She started to say before catching herself.
She pretended to cough before continuing, "Sorry, I am Edith," with a smile.
Sam responded with a smile.
"I am sorry for the altercation with my chauffeur earlier on. I hope you did not take it to heart," Sam said.
"Of course not, I should have been mindful of where I was going," Hazel replied.
"You live around here?" Sam asked Hazel.
"No, I'm just visiting, " Hazel said.
"Oh..." Sam exclaimed as he thought then added, "For the Moon festival?"
Hazel nodded her head in response with a smile.
"It is a good thing then, I kindly volunteer myself to be your guide," Sam said, "with your permission that is," He quickly added.
Hazel did not know what to say.
Getting involved with anyone at this point was very dangerous. She didn't even know who this man was.
He could even be one of the Alpha she was supposed to kill.
She knew she needed help and an ally but this man was not fit for any of those positions.
He had been coming from the palace also which meant he had an affiliation with that place.
Her mind reeled as she tried to make the right decision.
How she wished she could have a chat with Raglan about this but the bastard was probably doing death duties somewhere else.
It was a very awkward moment for both of them as Hazel stood with a smile plastered on her face which kept on getting weirder with every passing second as she contemplated her answer."Sure, why not," Hazel finally answered. The sound of her voice saying that snapped her out of her head. She had still been in a meeting with her mind, contemplating when her mouth had, on its own, carried out the task.A smile broke out on Sam's face and a look of relief washed over him.He actually was.He had been hoping she would not reject his offer. He had been hooked on her ever since their meeting on the road.He had wanted to tell Jeff, his chauffeur, to stop the car and give her a lift, but he was accompanied by his father.Their meeting had not been a coincidence. He had kept his eyes open and had hung at the bar closest to the town's entrance to spot her on arrival. The moment he had seen that beautiful mane of red hair walk past, he had immediately sprung to action and went after her.He di
Sam and Hazel made small talk as they ate and for a little moment, Hazel totally forgot about all her problems. She laughed heartily at Sam's jokes and listened intently to all he said, hanging on to every word as if it was her life. One time, when she listened to him talk, she took her time to assess him.He had a well-chiseled face, with a strong jaw. His features were mostly hard –lips that looked rough, a pointed nose that had a little flare at the nostrils, and eyebrows that did not have an arch to them but were straight thereby giving his face an unreadable expression. In all of this hardness, his soft baby blue eyes stood out, balancing the hardness with its softness. She could not look into his eyes. Every time she tried, she felt like she was drowning in a never-ending sea of blue.It was then it dawned on her what attracted her to him. It was not actually his beauty but it was because his eyes reminded her of someone else.It reminded her of Asher. The first time she had set
Tears threatened to fall from Hazel's eyes as she was hit by nostalgia as the performance went on.She struggled to hold herself together as the sweet music to the moon goddess was sung heartily by wolves who were in reverence to their keeper reminding her that at this moment, she was not one of them anymore. When the song was over, and the performers exited the stage, Hazel turned her eyes back to Sam and she caught him staring at her."You look sad," he commented. He had been staring at her all through the song and he had seen what looked like longing all over her face.Hazel gave a small smile which made her face, even sadder rather than happier, "No, I'm not. It is just the song, it is so beautiful," she said."Yeah... it is," Sam agreed but he still did not believe that was it.A noise on the stage took their attention away from and towards it as they both turned to see what it was.It was an acrobat who had come on stage performing some stunts."That is the cue that the main sho
Hazel was awake long before the birds started their morning lullaby.Raglan had proven useless last night again. Well, not totally useless. He had not helped her solve her problem but he had given her something else."You are so easy to sniff out because you have the stink of a human all over you. You are like a sheep in a wolf's den literally," Raglan had said to her. She had listened to him intently because she knew all that he was saying was true. She remembered how she had almost been caught by Gordon because she reeked of human scent and he could smell it."I have realized that that has been quite a challenge for you especially with blending in so I decided to get a solution for you," he said.He then reached into his princely robe and took out a tiny intricately decorated gourd which had attached to it, a silver chain, and handed it to her.Hazel accepted it wondering what it was."That is a powder made from wolf bones that have been burnt and crushed and gone through a ton of
A blonde-haired Hazel walked out of the salon. She walked with her head high as she was no longer terrified of being caught. No one could recognize her as the girl with fiery hair. She had not tampered with the length of the hair, so her hair still flowed down her back but she looked like a different person —except she met face-to-face with Sam himself. From the salon, she knew exactly where she had to be. Her destination was engraved in her mind and she walked in that particular direction. It was the shop where she had stolen the pair of shoes she was wearing. She walked into the shop and the same shop owner was standing at the counter. Today there were just a few people, unlike the other day when the shop was filled with people."Good morning ma'am, how can I help you?" The shop owner said with a smile on her face.Confident, Hazel returned the smile and greeting."I would like a new outfit," Hazel requested."Ooh... some last-minute shopping," the shop owner said and Hazel smiled.
Hazel marched to Alpha Gordon's palace. The place was alive with activity as finishing touches were being made to decorations for the event. With her new camouflage, Hazel walked about confidently observing and trying to fish out her prey. For her plan, she would need a caterer to be able to achieve it and this wasn't the problem.—The problem was how she was going to convince that person to help her out. Her bribe could end up backfiring on her if the person she approached was loyal to Gordon. The house was full of various caterers. So getting one wasn't the problem, convincing a good one was the problem.Gordon had invited people from far and wide and it was a well-known fact that the prince threw the biggest Moon festival so additional caterers were hired apart from the royal chef.Numerous times, Hazel wanted to approach someone but she was scared and so she didn't.After about two hours of roaming around, she went to sit down on one of the balconies. She looked down at the activi
Hazel was convinced she had made the wrong decision as the two men just stared at her in shock without saying anything. She should have thought about it more before barging up on them. What if they reported her now? What would she do?Her heart raced as she contemplated her next move. Should she keep going or should she just walk out of there?Hazel watched as The men's facial expressions moved from shock to fear and then to confusion. The whole palace was alive with various noises as people moved about and worked but at that moment, a deafening silence filled Hazel's ears.'Moon goddess help me!' Hazel prayed in her heart."Who the fuck are you?" Finally Winston the chef asked in an aggressive voice. His question threw her off guard with its harshness."Im–I'm," Hazel started to answer in a weak, shaky voice but then she stopped. She cleared her throat, stood straighter, and in a steady, confident voice, she said, "I am Edith."She knew she could not show these men fear. She had to b
Winston was not sure what was going on but one thing he knew was that he was not going to pass on an opportunity to have his pound of flesh.Despite Lance's objections, he was going to take this leap of faith. If it ended up backfiring, at least he would die knowing he made an effort in avenging his little girl.He took a deep breath before saying, "What is your plan?"Hazel looked down at the activities going on below as she said, "We are going to take advantage of that."Winston reacted to her words with neither speech nor action as he listened to her. He followed her eye level and nodded at the people below them."There would be a ton of people which will thereby increase the number of possible suspects which will in turn cover our asses," Hazel said.It was too good to be true. She could not believe that she was finally doing this. Her plans were finally set into motion. Her heart raced, but this time, it was not out of fear but rather out of excitement.Winston nodded to her word
"No!" Hazel's screams resonated through the walls of the midwives' workshop. Against their will, the midwives had lain Hazel on the worktable and had tied her limbs down to the table. One of the midwives took a cloth and started to stuff it into Hazel's mouth to muffle her screams. "Leave her mouth free. I want to listen to her screams," Raglan's cold voice echoed in the room, stopping the midwife. "Please Raglan! You can take my life but let this child live! He is innocent! Please!" Hazel pleaded with Raglan. "I should let the bastard child live?" Raglan chuckled. "I am putting an end to the lives of all the bastards in that family. Including the whore that dared bear him a child," Raglan said with such contempt his face contorted with disgust. Tears spilled down Hazel's face. She couldn't breathe. She knew this was likely going to be her end, but she had hoped she could escape. But she refused to give up on her son. Hazel continued to beg, offering her life in exchange for
Days had passed and Hazel was getting better and better in her skills as a princess of death but it wasn't as fast as she would have wanted it.Her baby would soon be out and she knew that the moment that happened, it was going to be the end of her.She worked harder in the small room she had created for herself, hoping to be able to restore her life to earth before the baby came. But all of these were difficult for her, especially since she had to avoid Raglan's mother by all means.Hazel had tried her possible best to steer clear of her. She knew that she hated her and she made sure she never had anything to do with her.But Raglan's mother made it her duty to be in Hazel's business. She found excuses to be around Hazel and to be part of her life and though Hazel tried her best to avoid her, it was not possible. As she finished her training with her instructor that day, Hazel slowly made her way to her room to rest but as she took the final bend, Raglan's mother immediately appeared
"What?!" Hazel squeaked, her face confused as to what she had just heard.Raglan held her by the shoulders his face lit up with a joy that she never believed could exist in the realm of darkness. He shook her as if to wake her from something."Hazel! We are in love! We now have a child on the way! All that's left is for us to get married!" Raglan said trying to connect some imaginary dots.Hazel knew she could not do this. She had endured the past weeks pretending to like him. Getting married to Raglan was going to the extreme and she was not sure she could survive it.With the same speed with which his face had lit up, the joy on his face dimmed out and a sadness replaced the light."You don't want me?" Raglan asked his voice pricking Hazel with the amount of pain that was in it.Hazel sighed. She knew this was not going to be easy. For her to secure what was hers, it was required of her to make certain sacrifices and this was one of them. With a weak smile that did not even touch he
Over the next few days, Hazel and Raglan's relationship blossomed.Raglan was so happy and he made sure everyone knew about him and Hazel –including his mother.Hazel was still trying to wrap her mind around how she became a girlfriend to the prince of death. The person who had taken away the joy from her life.Hazel had not factored a relationship between her and Raglan into her plans. She had envisioned a totally different trajectory for her plan and she was not happy with the way things were going.Raglan made sure she spent half of her day with him. He tried to make her move to his room but Hazel refused.Staying with Raglan meant she would have to have sex with him and that was something she dreaded happening. She however had been forced to be intimate with him. They cuddled in bed together before bedtime, and they kissed quite a lot –although she tried to find ways to avoid kissing him there was only so much she could refuse for her plan to really work. She did everything intend
Hazel spent the next twenty minutes thinking and rethinking her plan. 'What if it fails?' she asked herself. She knew that was a useless question to ask herself. She knew exactly what would happen if her plan failed. But there was no way she was going to back down. She placed her hands on her belly, rubbing it. She had to take the risk for the child's sake and his father's. With that in mind, Hazel got up and marched to the bed where Raglan lay lost to the world. He looked much more beautiful in sleep and he looked much less like the evil bastard that he was. Hazel looked at the left side of his chest. She knew he had no heart but she wished he had one so that she would have the satisfaction of impaling his heart just as how he had made her do so to all those Alpha's just for his selfish reason. Raglan was lucky she did not know how to send him to hell, she would have done it there and then. Rather, she got on the bed and started to try and take off his black tunic. It was no
She stood before the master of ceremony her entire body weak with fear. The master of ceremony turned back to face the crowd and then he rose both of his hands up into the air and then announced in a low voice, "It is time."As if on cue, the whole room erupted in a terrifying chant. The master of ceremony hurriedly walked away leaving Hazel standing in the middle tears running down her face as she witnessed the ritual happening around her.She could not move as she knew doing so will be fruitless. There was no possible way she was ever going to be able to make it out of the place without being caught moreover she was stuck there in fear. The blood that had been running past her legs started to flow faster. The chants from the demons grew frantic and the symbols on her body started to grow brighter and brighter making her body look like it had been set on fire.Hazel could feel a terrible presence in the room one which was more terrible than all the demons put together. This was follo
"When you said the entire realm would be present did you mean it?" Hazel asked Raglan as soon as Persia landed in front of the four walls.Raglan turned and looked at her dropping the reins. He could see fear spread all over her face."No, I didn't mean it literally," Raglan said to her. "Those who will be in attendance at the banquet are only royalty and those who matter. The rest will be celebrating it at other places."Hazel nodded, her anxiety was a tad bit relieved by his explanation."Shall we?" Raglan asked and he held out his free hand.Hazel nodded then took her hands off the chariot where she had been holding tightly for her dear life. Her legs were still wobbly from her experience but she willed herself to stand steady. The ride had been a bumpy one and many times, Hazel's stomach threatened to hurl out the contents of her stomach but she fought to keep it down. She clasped her hands once more in front of her and Raglan took ahold of her elbow guiding her down the chariot.
"You look so beautiful," Raglan said looking at her with eyes that were full of admiration."Thank you," Hazel said with a warm smile."So do you," She added and her comments were more than just mere flattery. Raglan looked really handsome even though he was dressed in intimidating attire. He had swapped his usual cloak for a tunic, black as night. Underneath the tunic, he wore what looked like chain mail armor, and in his left hand was a scepter that was shaped like a scythe, one very similar to the grim reaper's.There was something in Raglan's eyes as she looked at him. It was a look she had seen before but not on Raglan and it was weird that he had that look in his eyes as he looked at her.Her heart made a little flutter and she had to caution herself to keep her cheeks from reddening. She had to stay focused. The life of her child depended on it.Raglan also tried his best not to look into her eyes. That was very strange as he had never for once been timid before her or anyone
Hazel had lost track of time as she lay on the bed while her body was tattooed with a bunch of symbols she could not decipher. She had spent the time drifting in and out of sleep and when she woke up the last time, she was shocked to see that they had only even covered the front her neck to chest area, and her arms.It was now she understood the maid's issue about time. She wondered why just drawing figures will take so much time. She decided to glance down at what they were doing so she tilted her head down. When she did, she felt a sense of foreboding come over her.Something in her grew cold as a strong feeling of fear seized herAlthough she could not decipher the symbols drawn on her body, she knew that they were something extremely evil."What are these?" Hazel asked her voice more of a whisper."These are the truths of ancient times," The maid said, her voice very quiet as if in reverence to the symbols.Hazel did not know what she said but she did not ask further. She moved a
