Darius’s Pov

I sat in my private chambers, my leg stretched out in front of me. The ache had reduced a lot, but the sharp stabs still made themselves known every time I moved wrong. The silver poisoning was almost gone, but not fast enough. It was bearable now. The pain is dulling and I feel like I can go about my normal day to day activities.

I wouldn't have realized how much better I was if I had remained in bed at the cabin. I can feel Magnus better than before and the urge to shift, run to the forest was almost overwhelming. The connection between Magnus and me now seemed stronger, and his emotions are clearer than before. It was as if being away from the cabin had somehow woken up our bond.

Ezra walked in, worried etched across his face, his brows furrowed deeply as he shut the door behind him. His lips were pressed into a thin line, as if he were debating how to pick his words.

I sat up straighter, my heart picking up pace at his unusual demeanor.

“What is it?” I asked, my g

Darius's POV The day of the alliance meeting had finally arrived after much postponement and the morning was thick with tension in both the atmosphere and also in my gut. The sun had barely risen when I sat in my private office.I rubbed my eyes, staring at the papers on my desk. I was dressed in all black, my expression was cold as I reviewed the list of Alphas I would be meeting today. My first meeting was with Alpha Alaric. I sighed, running my hands through my hair. I hadn't slept all through the night, I had tossed in my bed thinking of the possibilities of today's alliance meeting. That feeling of uneasiness had been building up inside me and it was difficult to shake it off. The Emberfang pack was the reason for my restless night. I knew I was going to have a problem with them. I had rescheduled, rearranged, and reworked the terms of the alliance, all in an attempt to keep Aurora here. I exhaled deeply this time. Ezra sat across the desk watching me closely with an express

  • The Luna's Second Chance   55. The Unthinkable Bargain

Darius's POV The room dropped into stunned silence immediately as the words left my mouth. Ezra adjusted in his seat like he was ready for an action that might be taken against me, perhaps a blow from Kieran. Looking across the table, Alpha Alaric’s smug smirk had vanished, his brow furrowed. His fingers stopped tapping against the wooden surface, his eyes narrowed at me. Kieran, on the other hand, had no such restraint. His body was tensed, his fists clenching at his sides as he processed what I had just said. I had expected them to be shocked, but seeing Alpha Alaric and Kieran’s jaw dropped was satisfying in ways I couldn’t describe. They weren’t just surprised, they were also speechless like I had dropped a bombshell right in the middle of the conference room.Their stunned expressions were priceless, and for a moment, I savored the silence. It was as if time had frozen, leaving only the sound of their ragged breathing. The wheels were turning in their minds as they struggled

Darius's POV Alpha Alaric was right about one thing, something else was at play here beyond this alliance. The desperation seeping through Magnus to me was palpable which is one of the driving forces that made me throw this proposal. I needed my mate by my side and I knew it was a risk, but I was willing to do whatever it takes. I leaned back in my chair as I studied Alpha Alaric. He was a man who prided himself on control, over his pack, over his son, and over the people he considered beneath him from what I've learnt so far about him. “My proposal is not impossible,” I finally said, signaling to the guard behind me to come over.“Perhaps a drink will lighten up the atmosphere.” I suggested with a smirk on my face. “Send for Diana. Have her bring drinks for us,” I ordered with a calm voice. “Anything you will like to have, Alpha Alaric?”“Just a glass of Scotch is good,” he said. Alaric’s fingers drummed against the table as he watched me, his eyes narrowing on me. “You’re st

Aurora's POVI flipped another page of my novel, I was utterly engrossed in the story. The novel was about a single mother, abandoned by her husband and left to fend for her two kids. It had lots of twists that I didn't expect which kept me on the edge of my seat. The warm afternoon sun kissed my skin as I sat on the patio near the outdoor pool, the gentle sound of water lapping against the edges of the pool creating a soothing background noise. Aria was nearby, stretched out on a chaise lounge. She had her sunglasses perched on her nose, pretending to nap, but I knew better. Aria was never truly at ease, her mind was always scheming, always calculating. “Aurora" Aria's voice broke through. I looked up to see her making gestures with her hands, beckoning me. “Come join me here." I flashed her a smile and went back to my novel. I was deep into a particularly intense scene in my book when I suddenly felt a shift in the air, a heavy footstep approaching. Before I could lift my head,

Aurora's POV On getting to my room, I picked up my box and begin to fold my wears inside. The thought of what Kieran had told me churn in my stomach. Now that I was focused it all seems hard to wrap my head around it.Why would Alpha Darius request for me?It wasn't an uncommon practice for Alphas to want someone from the pack they want to form alliance with. It's always mostly seen as a way to solidify the alliance especially if it's a marriage union. It's no surprise that Alpha Darius was now fond of me but requesting me as part of condition for the alliance came to me a shock. He could have asked for Lily's hand in marriage but he didn't.In my past life, Alpha Alaric had throw the option at him but he turned it down saying he wasn't interested in choosing a mate when he hasn't even found his true mate yet. What could have changed in this new life? It's no secret lots of things has changed in the present life though. Everything wasn't going the same way it went in my past life. I

His scent, dark spice and raw power, wrapped around me, making my breath come in quick, shallow gasps. He caressed my cheek with the knuckle of his forehand and pushed stray tendrils of hair away from my cheek. Everywhere he touched felt alive as the sparks danced over my skin. His gaze was locked onto mine, an intense, burning stare that sent shivers down my spine. Darius’s POVThe moment I stepped out of Aurora’s room and gently closed the door behind me, I exhaled a breath I hadn’t even realized I was holding. My chest was tight, my head buzzing with all the things I’d just heard and the things I hadn’t been brave enough to say to her. Every time I think I’ve figured her out, she throws me off balance again and again. I made my way to the room across the hall that has been prepared for me for the weekend. I shut the door behind me, leaning against it for a moment before getting off and stripping off my shirt.I headed straight for the shower, hoping the water would cool the thoughts rushing through my mind and as the warm water touched my skin, I rolled my neck, letting the water run over my back. Things weren't going as I planned it except the part where she had agreed to stay for the weekend. I didn't expect her to stay but she did. One thing I was sure of was that she didn't stay because of the way I persuaded her, I can tell from the lo

Aurora’s Pov I looked at him, my heart thumping hard in my chest, and knew there was no turning back now once I spilled it out. I could tell from the way Darius's brows shot up that I had his full attention now.“I found out some things,” I began carefully, my voice low, “about Lily.”His expression darkened slightly with a mixed expression of confusion and curiosity. “Lily?” he repeated. “Alpha Alaric’s daughter? Kieran’s sister?”I nodded. “Yes.”He straightened, his gaze locked onto mine. “What kind of things?” he asked in a serious tone.“There are documents and images,” I began. “I left the folder in my bag, and my bag’s in the car that brought us.” I sighed heavily.Darius waved a hand dismissively. “No, it’s not in the car anymore. Mason already brought everything in. They’re in one of the rooms.”He stood and looked down at me then stretched out his hand in assisting me. “Come on,” he grabbed my arm and led me towards the room. “I’ll show you where you’ll be sleeping anyw

Aurora’s Pov I hesitated, my body fixed on the mat we sat on as his words hung in the air. ‘Stay.’It was a simple request, but my mind was racing with a thousand reasons why I shouldn't consider it. Yet, it wasn't just his asking that made me want to stay. A turbulent storm was building up inside of me, making my heart pound and my palms sweaty in the cool night breeze. I feel like I was on the edge of doing something and one wrong action could take me deeper than I want to go.My instincts were screaming at me to be careful, to protect myself from these emotions that seemed to be out of my control but a part of me, a part that I couldn't quite explain, felt an overwhelming urge to experience the feelings and go with it. A part of my heart is giving in to Darius dangerously but my other part which is pent up with getting revenge is fighting the urge.I love the way he was making me feel, the butterflies I feel in my tummy, my heart pounding anxiously whenever I see him, the throb

Aurora’s Pov We walked in silence, the soft crunch of gravel beneath our feet and the sound of insects chirping filled the air. The night was cool but not uncomfortable, the kind that wrapped around your skin gently.I let my eyes roam. A garden was by my left. It was in full bloom with roses, tulips, wild daisies, and those pale lavender flowers I could never remember the name of. The scent hit me as walked by it side. The kind of smell that made your shoulders drop and your chest relax. It was beautiful and breathtaking sight to behold even in the dark with light stand by the walk way shining on it.I could also smell river or ocean ahead."Where are we going?" I asked, eyeing him from the side."You'll see," Darius said, that mysterious smirk playing at the corners of his lips.We walked a bit farther and soon the scent of the river became clearer and then, we turned a small corner of the path, and I gasped.A small fireplace had already been lit. There was a comfortable-looking p

  • The Luna's Second Chance   81. Sweet Surprises

Aurora’s Pov The cool evening breeze brushed across my skin the moment I stepped out of the hospital. The car park was quiet as I strolled, in search of Darius. He'd sent me a text some moments back that he was here already. I couldn't get out immediately, I was nervous to see him and also eager. I stopped in my tracks, took a deep breath, and exhaled to calm my nerves when I saw him.He stood casually, leaning against the side of a sleek grey car, hands in his pockets, his head tilted slightly like he’d been watching me from there for some minutes. His dark shirt clung to his body like it was made for him, sleeves rolled up to reveal strong forearms, and his hair looked perfectly tousled, like the breeze itself knew better than to mess him up too much. I began to walk towards him thanking moon goddess Aria had picked something casual for me as well. I wouldn't have been comfortable to see him look so formal while I looked like a secretary in her late thirties. My feet seemed to s

Aurora’s Pov Rachel leaned back, her arms folded across her chest. “Speaking of dinner with Alpha Darius,” her face hardened. “Does Kieran know about the painting already?”I gave a small, humorless laugh. “He hasn’t said anything about it yet and I'm sure he knows about it already.”“He’s probably still investigating who sent it before he makes a move.” I added.I'd informed Rachel about the artwork Alpha Darius had sent to me, the unexpected visit which led to the dinner date proposal. She wasn't a bit shock and all muttered, ‘that arrogant lycan’. I'd also told Rachel I was digging up dirts about Lily some days back. She was shocked and asked why I would do such a thing. I couldn't tell her everything but told her I will tell her why one day but I told her to see it as doing the right thing. “And if he finds out it was Darius?” Rachel asked, pulling me out of my thought.I met Rachel’s gaze. “Then he’ll be very furious.” I smirked as I relished the look of Kieran's face.We sat

Aurora’s Pov In my past life I knew Lily had secret affairs but I couldn't find out who she was having them with exactly. Even after she found her mate, she didn't stop her infidelity, not even after her mate kept complaining but she always found a way around to blame him because she had built a perfect image. George nodded grimly. “She’s been having an affair with him. He funds her lifestyle. You know how your pack funds have been tight lately.”I nodded slowly.“She needs Alpha Marcellus funds,” he said with a furrowed brow.“The document with you shows a record of her expenses,” he looked up from beneath craggy brows and gesture at the paper beneath the pictures. “She’s been covering her name and using an omega's name.”“What!” the shock of discovery hit me with full force.“I traced the payments. And this Alpha…” he pointed to the man in the photographer, “He’s been sending her gifts. Designer clothes, money, jewelry. Even a private apartment on the west side,” he said in a hars

Aurora's POV It had been weeks since I started my residency, and to be honest, it wasn’t going the exact way I had thought it would go.I had thought I’d be able to juggle everything one way or the other. Stuffs like the pack responsibilities with the Luna's training, my personal revenge, and the intense demands of being a trauma surgery resident. But reality had a funny way of reminding me I wasn’t superhuman. The hours were long, the work was emotionally and physically draining, and the pressure were also suffocating.I had been staying more at the hospital lately, and rarely going to the pack. Most nights I crashed in the call room or caught a few hours of sleep slumped over a chart. My phone barely had any life in it, not that I wanted to answer it anyway. The screen lit up constantly with missed calls from Kieran and Avery. I’d stopped counting after the first ten. When I needed anything, I sent Aria. She was the only one I could send to pick up stuffs for me without being troub

  • The Luna's Second Chance   77. The Pressure Within

Aurora’s Pov The knock on my door came just as I was trying to get some actual peace. I had barely slept after yesterday’s encounter with Alpha Darius, and all I wanted was a few uninterrupted hours to gather my thoughts. However, this house didn’t believe in peace for me.“Luna Avery and Alpha Alaric are asking of you,” the young omega at the door said quietly.Of course they are. I was sure they've heard about Darius's visit to the pack.“Thank you. I’ll be right there.” I said, my lips pulled into a tight smile. As I followed the omega through the packhouse corridors, my mind raced with all possible scenarios of how this meeting with them turn out. It wasn't my fault Alpha Darius came uninvited to the pack. If I had the chance to stop him from coming, I would have taken it.When I entered the private quarters, Alpha Alaric was standing by the tall window, back straight, hands clasped behind him. Avery was seated on one of the velvet chairs, her posture as rigid as a pole. She look
