“Seems like I have no choice but to punish you,” I told Alyssa. My stomach twisted with disgust at the idea of ‘punishing’ her, but she needed to realize I was serious. For the love of the goddess, she ran right into James. Just the idea of her being alone with him was enough to send my heart racing.

Her eyes widened with fear, turning haunted, and I paused, remembering how I found her. Letting out a breath to calm myself, I said, “You’ll have to stay here, under lock and key, with a guard present at all times until I can trust you to not try something like that again.”

The expression of haunted fear vanished from her eyes, giving way to confusion. No doubt, seeing what Carl had done to her, Alyssa was expecting something worse. My wolf growled with anger, still wanting to feel Carl’s blood on its claws. I admitted I wanted to grab Alyssa by the shoulders and demand why the hell did she marry him and, on top of that, allow him to treat her like this.
