Stella's POV.
“Stella?” Aria's worried voice rang through the phone again. An imagery picture of her flicking with the sleeve of her sweatshirt invaded my mind and I smiled lightly.
“Aria, I promise I'll tell you later, okay?” I left the hallway for the elevator. “Say hi to family for me, hm?” With her promising to call later, we hung up.
I pushed the door of my room open and went to change into my gym wear. I wouldn't have had my bath if I knew I'd be training later, but oh well… I guess showering again wasn't bad.
I seriously needed to punch something or preferably, someone.
After changing into a spandex black shorts and tank top, I grabbed my water bottle, keypad, and exited the room. Somehow, I asked around and I found myself in an actual grand gym. It has literally all the equipment anyone could need. I gaped in astonishment.
When I began to get curious glances from people training, I closed my mouth and walked further inside the room. Standing at the connected center, my index finger tapped on my chin as I thought of the one to use first.
The treadmill called out to me, so I hopped on it.
And for over an hour, that was what I did. Burned out my anger by exercising. By the time I was done with the treadmill, it was time for training. With a little help from the people lounging around, I made it to the ground.
But I came a little early.
With a frown on my face, I checked the time. It was after five. So, let me correct that, I came a little late. Owen told me 5, so I wondered why no one was here yet. I wasn't with my phone and I didn't even know anyone here enough to collect their number.
If there was an emergency, the alarm would have rang through, right?
Ah, whatever. I'd just occupy myself, then. With that, I began to run laps around the field as I admired the vast view before me. The sun shone golden yellow with specks of pink underneath it.
The evening air sent waves of soft breeze my way, sending a quick shiver. At Grandiose Apex, we train in the morning or in the afternoon, mostly mornings. But never in the evening. I didn't see why training was fixed for the evening here.
Voices and footsteps reached my ears before the people did. A set of females strided it. I paused on my run and glanced at my wristwatch. It's 5:30. Oh. Was it shifted?? To answer my question, more people filed in, and soon, it became a little bit crowded.
Jeez, these people were more than we were back at home.
Curious glances made my way but I tried not to pay them any attention and played with a cobblestone laid on the floor with my canvas. A shadow appeared at my front. My eyebrows furrowed and I raised up my head.
An inadvertent glare made my face as I stared at the brunette before me. Numerous gasps rang through the crowd. Curiously, I followed everyone's gaze, ignoring the black devil at my front and stared at what made everyone gasp.
The eye roll building up in me got stuck when I saw why everyone gasped. Owen strutted in, a slightly oversized white tank top thrown over his torso and a black cargo shorts.
No, that wasn't what captured my attention, I mean, it did, but this — authority oozed out of him as he walked further into the field, the evening breeze messed with his hair, sending them flying into his face. Owen ran his hand through them, trying to tame those strands with a narrowed look on his face.
I gulped, my hands fell limply by my side. His taut muscle twitches with every move he took, don't get me started on how long his legs were. The top on him didn't have to be tight to know he had over six packs, I —
Wait, what?
I blinked a lot. Stella, what were you doing?? Were you really blatantly staring at him?
‘Well, yeah. He's mate.’ My wolf butted in.
Jeez.
I blocked the mental connection between us and puffed out a heavy breath out of my mouth. I could feel my face hot. Quickly averting my eyes from him, I tried to calm my flustered self.
I didn't know how my gaze found him again.
His eyes moved past the seas of people around, including those who tried to kiss up to him. One being Casey. I had no idea when she left my side for his’. His silver pools moved past me and I hated the sad feeling that warmed into my heart.
Here I thought he was looking for me.
“Should you not be training?” A voice I knew all too well dropped beside me, startling me.
I closed my eyes tightly in shock as my heart skipped a large beat. What the— “Owen?” I questioned, confused. When I looked at where he was before, the space was empty, but with an angry Casey burning glares into me. Then, back at him. “I thought..” I trailed off.
He chuckled. “I've been standing here for a minute now.”
Oh.
Neither of us said a word for the next five minutes, until I began to feel irritated. I turned to Owen who was observing his people fight. Feeling my gaze on him, he peered down at me. For a second, I forgot what I wanted to say as I got lost in his eyes.
Why were they so clear??
Specks and dusts of gray laid in them, somewhat forming this cobwebs look. Who knew the shape of cobwebs could turn out so beautifully?
“Either you leave my side or tell your people, Casey, especially, to stop drilling me with her eyes.” I played off my mushy feelings, smiling sweetly at him.
“Huh?” He stared, confused. “Oh,” he glanced around and cleared his throat. One of his hands played with the hairs at the back of his head.
My eyebrows shot up. Did I just make him flustered? I snorted, amusement bubbling in me. That's cute.
When I no longer felt the eyes of the people on me, I relaxed for a bit.
That was, until an ugly fellow parted his lips to speak.
“Hey, newbie!” He hollered loudly. A few glanced at me.
I watched the current set of people wrestling. But his big mouth just had to utter the words again, disrupting the match and grabbing everyone's attention.
Oh, I perfectly knew he was talking to me. But I also did remember my pathetic abuser of parents naming me Stella.
He should try again.
“Stella,” I felt the vibration of Owen's voice from beside me. “Not a newbie.”
I glanced up at him, surprised he spoke for me. But he paid me no mind and stepped forward, commanding the gazes of the crowd with him. Standing right at the center, also not too far from me, Owen began to speak.
“A few days ago, my younger brother ran into a major accident and was saved by a stranger who just happened to be there,” a few people checked me out. “She not only bested the warriors and my beta, she took charge with authority like a Luna.”
My heart race increased when his gaze connected with mine.
“Because that's what she is,” a tiny curve appeared at the corner of his mouth. “A Luna.”
Hello, there! I apologize for ghosting. I've been busy with exams. However, I'll try not to next time. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this chapter! I've got to ask tho, what do you think of Owen??
Stella's POV.It was so obvious. The pride that oozed out of him and pink rose to my cheeks. I looked down, trying to decolorize my cheeks whilst using my hair as a curtain.“Is she going to be a member of this pack?” A random person asked.Of course, I'd be. I was his mate after all, it made sense if I was. But I wondered if I'd be asked to prove myself. But my mate's response shocked me.“If she wants to.” Was his only response.I snapped my head up, looking at him. What did he mean by that? If I wanted to? I scoffed loudly. I had the urge to walk away, but I couldn't. Why? Because this wasn't my freaking pack! And I hated the restrictions that came with it. Here and others. How on earth did Aria cope? “She should not prove herself to us? The pack?” I knew Casey's voice from anywhere. I mean, I only spent a day here, but she had proven to be a stress. Why? Does she like Owen??Owen, who noticed the shift in my mood, spoke again. “She already did, the night she came here.”“But sh
Stella's POV.I jogged down the gravel pathway, not paying attention to where I was going. Instead, I was invested in the conversation I was sharing with Cooper.“So?” I panted. “How’s Kormak holding up?”He sighed. “Not so well. But with Aria by his side, things are being handled better.”My older step brother, Kormak, was the alpha of the Grandiose Apex pack and head of the Northern region. Recently, he was betrayed by his childhood companion and advisor, Vorus, who wanted to kill him for power. It had hit him hard because of how much he invested in their relationship. However, with Aria, his mate, being there with him, he'd the chance of moving on fast.Cooper cleared his throat. “What about you? How's the mate search going?” That was why I left. Because Aria was there and because I was on a personal quest to find my mate. I'd traveled up Southern, I still hadn't found him. But I hope I do in the West.I shrugged, slowing down my pace. “No luck. Yet.”“Hmm…you do know you can alwa
Stella's POV.When I saw no one in the security house, I pushed the second gate open and the alarm started to blare.Well, interesting. They used the first gate to lure prey. Okay, maybe they were more than stupid. I'd be sure to leak this method to Kormak. Our pack could also use some advancement.I trudged in and walked past the security office before I got ambushed. Standing before me were men armed with weapons, ready to attack.“Wait!” I shouted, “there is a boy in my arms.” And I didn't want to die. “He's severely injured and in need of medical attention. Now!” Four men came forward. One of them roughly grabbed the kid who already passed out from me and the other three pinned me down. Pressing my head into the floor.“Who the hell are you and what have you done to him?!” One of them roared. He didn't give me a chance to answer before he pressed my head into the sand. “Answer me!!”Maybe if you gave me space to breathe, I would. One thing I hated all my life was men touching me.
Owen's POV.“Get the doctor here, now!” I ordered no one in particular, but one of the guards standing around scurried after my demand. “Arrange a room.” I said to my Gamma this time.I watched the unmoving female in my arms. She looked so thin and pale from blood loss. Shit. My wolf stirred within me, panicking and shouting mate which was making me not to think. When I was 12, our pack got raided. It happened in the night, when I was sleeping. My parents thought I was going to be fine alone with guards littered around while they went to take care of the crisis. Stella's POV.I felt like crap.My skull hammered in my head and it felt like my intestines were twisting itself, making me feel nauseous. My limbs are heavy, not moving. In short, everything hurts and I just wanted to go back to sleep. And that was what I did, slept. The next time I woke up, it didn't smell like bleach. I slowly peeled my eyes open and managed to sit up. I removed the oxygen mask from my face and scanned the room. However, the heart monitor beeped loudly, making me groan.I stretched towards it and turned it off. Just in time for the front door to ram open. The man who strangled me before I passed out, also known as my mate, walked in.I could be mistaken. I mean, how hadn't I known he was my mate until I looked into his eyes? I wished I was, but he standing before me proved otherwise. He was actually my mate. And he strangled me.Like hell I'd stay with an abuser. His eyes remained on me as I stood up from the bed. Stella's POV.I woke up to banging on the door. My head felt like it was being splitted into numerous halves. It was irritating, even more when that person behind the door didn't stop. I scowl, getting up from the bed and storming over to the door. Before the door fully opened, I snapped. “What?!” I glared at the person before me. “If no one answered, was that not a sign for you to leave?” The male, who I vividly remember as one of the idiots I knocked up the last time I was here, shifted on his feet. His gaze remained on the floor. “I apologize.”I rolled my eyes. He could at least do it like a man. I was about to ask what he wanted, but the suitcase beside him caught my attention. I blinked and stood straight, what was he doing with my bag? I recall leaving it in the other pack before I went on my run.He spoke again, this time looking up. “Alpha Owen asked me to bring your things to you.” How on earth did Owen know where I was staying?? No, wrong question. What made him think I'd
Stella's POV.You were not supposed to happen. You were not supposed to happen. You were not suppo— I took a step back. Then, another. I didn't like the fact that I was getting worked up. Just a few seconds away, I had an unstable heart. Now my stomach felt weird, like a vomit was working its way up. And I hated that he could bring this out of me. “Why can't I tell you are my mate? I can't scent you, I don't feel the tinglings or other things mate feel. I don't even feel the mate bond!” I breathed, asking the questions that had been bothering me. “Why? What's going on?”He heaved out, sitting down on the bed and tapped the spot next to him. Stella's POV.“You're the Stella?!” Cassandra said, dropping on the chair beside me.I stared at my fork full of meat in agony before reluctantly dropping my fork on the plate before me. I twisted my head and looked at the gaping fish beside me. This didn't look like it'd end soon. “I don't know what you're the Stella means,” I said, air quoting the question she threw at me. “But since you're the second person asking me that today, then yes. I am the Stella. Can you get lost now? I'd love to eat in peace.” I waved her off, turning back to my meal. She scoffed. “That was rude.”“Well, maybe it's because you're disrupting my meal.” I snapped at her, a glare on my face. I just wanted to eat, fam. Not talk. I closed my eyes and sighed. “Look, I hadn't eaten for 42 hours counting, I'm seriously starved and I'd love to just eat my meal in peace?” “You do precede their words,” she leaned into the chair and began to tap her black polished manicured nails on the table. “Leave her alone, Case
