Lorenzo (Lo)
Lorenzo stood watching the side of the building, waiting for Emily to come around. He could smell her, though faintly, the moment he had gotten there. Her scent was strong.. and amazing… by far the best thing he had ever come across in his life. When she was within a few miles of him, he could pick up on it. It was something like fall leaves and cinnamon, with snow and embers of a fire, and then that little something extra that was just her. Exquisite. Werewolf scents were interesting things. Each pack had its own scent.. with each member of said pack carrying those smells along with a little of “them” so each person was individualized. They each had a little something extra to set themselves apart from everyone else. That particular scent couldn’t be described in words though… there was nothing to compare that part of a wolf to. It was kind of like twins, or triplets. They all looked the same, but maybe one had different color eyes… maybe one had a freckle of their face. Just a little extra thing that set them apart. When a wolf married, or mated, or just joined another pack.. they still kept a little part of their former home scent. Most wolves had 2 to 3 different smells plus their own extra little something. But for whatever reason, Emily had many different smells. She was the only person Lorenzo knew that carried such an array of scents, he’d never come across another wolf who did this. One of Emily’s home pack’s scents was cinnamon and when she came here to be with Nick.. she kept that smell. It was a fascinating thing, wolves scents. They even had scholars who studied them….. trying to figure out what that last extra smell every wolf had was… trying to understand why certain packs had certain smells. Although Lo always thought that part was obvious. It was surely something to do with where they came from and the land they lived on. Most wolves around here had some sort of woodsy or snowy scent because they lived in the north where it stayed cold most of the year. Wolves who lived by the ocean always had some sort of sea type smell. And those who lived in the south all seemed to carry a tropical scent. Regardless of all that. He found that Emily’s particular scent was the most amazing thing he’d ever come across. He had come the moment he had heard what happened. Of course right when he stepped one foot on the land out came Nicklaus, yelling at him, wanting to know why he was here. He knew exactly why the hell he was here. Brian and Alan, Emily’s brothers, had to step in and diffuse the situation. They told Nick that Lorenzo was invited and came as their guest. He had no choice to accept it. Lucky for Nick, Lorenzo’s wolf was just beyond the surface… scratching and clawing his way out. Had they not stepped in, things would’ve gotten very ugly very quick. Lorenzo had known Emily and her brothers his entire life. They’d played together as kids even when they were in different packs. When he was just a boy a huge pack of rouge wolves came onto his father’s land and destroyed it. Luckily Lo and a few others escaped by the help of Emily’s father, Hester Elkwood. Hester and Lo’s father had grown up together as well, and had always been close friends. When his father died and his pack had been all but eliminated… Lo went to live with Emily and her brothers. They’d grown up together… and he had always thought they would be mates. However, when they had gotten a little older, that didn’t seem to be the case. But he never gave up hope .. he loved her. Instead he started gathering the other members of his old pack that had escaped with him… and built it back up. He recruited and worked tirelessly for a couple of years until he had the biggest and strongest pack around. Now, Lo was the alpha of the Crow pack. They resided over a large portion of northern region because of their size and capabilities. The only thing that hadn’t changed was his love for Emily and her family. They’d saved him. He and Brian and Alan had remained the best of friends. But when Emily mated and married Nick, he retreated from their family to some extent. However he would always be there for them no matter the reason. He still had hope that one day, he and Emily would become mates. After searching for years and being with his fair share of female wolves he knew she was it for him. He had no other mate in this world. Wolves sometimes sadly never found their mates. Some wolves only had one mate for life…. but there were also times that wolves had more than one mate. It wasn’t as cut and dry as some people might think. One person could have no mate at all... while another might have three. You could even mark someone who wasn’t necessarily your mate… and then that person would become it.. so to speak. All the feelings you had for them beforehand would grow and become stronger. The pull that you feel for your true mate, you’d now feel for the person you had marked. Lo had known several wolves that had done that as well, after not finding the person they were meant to be with. The stipulation however for those who had more than one mate.. they might not even know it while they were with another wolf. Only when they either divorced them if they were married….. and denounced them as their mate…. would they then be free to enough to feel the pull towards the other wolf. That didn’t mean they wouldn’t already have feelings for them though. They would have normally already had some sort of close bond. Lorenzo had seen many people have more than one mate in their lifetimes. He’d even heard of a couple having three, although it was rare. In all the stories, Lo knew it had only happened a hand full of times. Nevertheless, he felt that strongly about Emily. And as much as he loved her and wanted her now.. he could only imagine what it would be like if they did indeed turn up to mated. And.. even if they weren’t., it wouldn’t matter. Because he would still love her til the day he died.Lorenzo When he had heard the news about Emily it took everything in his power not to tear the world down getting to her. He was barely twenty three years old in wolf years, but he had the power of a decades old alpha. If she had done what they were accusing her of, then she had a damn good reason. Emily was strong.. she always had been. But she had the kindest and most loving heart of anyone he knew. She would never take another life unless it was deserved. She was getting closer.. he could tell. Her smell was getting stronger and the hairs on his arms were beginning to stand up. His body was vibrating and his wolf was pushing on the inside…. wanting to come out. Whereas Emily’s wolf was large and majestic, beautiful, and the most mesmerizing silvery white like the snow color, Lorenzo’s was exactly the opposite. With his shaggy dark hair and light brown skin, his wolf was the blackest of black. And he made about two of Emily, as big as she was. And where her eyes were a gorgeo
Emily She sat there.. shocked at what she was witnessing as Luca, sweet little Luca was standing in front of everyone at her trial, announcing why they were there. She looked over at Nicklaus and began to snarl at him.. her wolf eager. Even though he was her mate.. she felt no love towards him at this moment. He had done this.. he had made Luca stand up there. Hell it was probably Sophia’s idea. That woman was the root of all evil. She turned and looked behind her, seeing Olivia sitting there with Andrew. They both looked like lost pups. Olivia had no idea what was going on and poor Andrew.. he was staring at his dad, Caron, no doubt thrilled to see him after so long. But Caron wouldn’t even look at him. Which caused Emily to further believe that he suspected Andrew wasn’t even his child. She shook her head. What a mess. Maybe she shouldn’t have done what she did. Maybe she shouldn’t have let her feelings and emotions get the best of her.. No. No matter what.. she did the righ
Emily After a few more documents were read and a few more official things were said the director introduced the rest of the council. She recognized two of them, and two she did not. She felt a little put off by the fact there were no women sitting up there… and her fate would be left up to these five men. But what did she expect. Then the director called Nicklaus to come to the front of the room. Emily had such mixed feelings for him at the moment. As much as she hated him, for keeping secrets and lying to her, and the way he had treated her…..and what he was doing to Luca… he was still her mate. And while she certainly didn’t feel the same connection that she once had… or the pull to him anymore.. she still had some love for him deep inside her. Emily reached up and felt the mark that ran up the side of her neck, the one from the bite he had given her when they mated. It used to tingle and spark when either she or Nick touched it but now.. now it was just a dull ache. She look
LorenzoHe was going to kill half of the wolves in this room before it was over with. Starting with Nick… who tried so hard to keep his wife and pack ‘in check’ that he forgot about common decency. He clearly hadn’t even seen what happened between Emily and Susan yet he ordered her to be struck with lashes and to a trial? Not to mention his beta, Felix, who Lorenzo currently was imagining punching his skull in. He spent the entire time they’d been in there staring at Emily. When she finally looked at him he had the fucking audacity to wink at her. Lo almost came out of his seat at that. His teeth began to protrude as his K9’s started to come forward. A low menacing snarl left his throat. A few people sitting around him kept watching him out of the sides of their eyes. He guessed they worried what he might do. But he didn’t care. He was an inch away from losing it and he dared someone to say something. The third man sitting at the table in the front of the room said he had no
Emily. She listened closely to Nick as he tried — and failed — to get out of answering the question. Even though she had been out of it that night, she knew he didn’t test the blood…Finally he acquiesced. “No I did not.”“So….” The man with the glasses was saying “you have no proof that the blood you saw was in fact Susan’s blood. It could have easily been Emily’s blood. Or anyone else’s for that matter… correct?”She could see that Nicklaus was not appreciating the tone he was getting. And he wasn’t appreciating getting questioned either. He clenched his teeth and bit out “correct.” A small win for her, she knew. But she also knew she had a very long way to go. “And did you check your wife’s injuries?” This guy was on fire… she thought. “Her injuries?” Nick asked. “Yes, Mr. Blackforest, her injuries, as it is apparent to me that she had them. Firstly because of the blood .. that you didn’t check.. secondly your description of what you say made it very clear to me that ther
Emily Years ago, when their land had become wolf territory and they built the dungeon, the entrance was built at the far most edge. Then the dungeon itself runs underneath human land… and thank goodness for that mistake. Because it meant she couldn’t stay there during the trial. The rule stated anyone on trial must stay within pack land. And since the dungeon technically wasn’t located inside the lines of the territory, it meant Emily could not, and would not go back there. Thank goddess. They had many empty cabins and cottages for people to stay in, just for instances like these. When they had big events or meetings, people needed somewhere to stay. Some of the houses had been abandoned… by wolves who either found their mates and left to go to another pack.. and some from people that had sadly passed away. Then there were a few that were built so they’d have extra space… again for times such as this, or if a new family became part of the pack. The council would stay in the
EmilyTHE PAST Emily woke up with a smile. It was her 16th birthday today. She couldn’t wait to spend the day with her family and friends. She raised up quickly and jumped out of bed but then suddenly she stopped. She was dizzy and felt sick. Noooo not on her birthday of all days. But something was off, she didn’t feel right. Did she have a fever? Wolves always ran a little hot, but this was something else. She was unnaturally hot and her entire body ached. She laid back down in the bed when her brother, Alan came busting in her room. “Happy birth…… Emily, what’s wrong?” Alan asked her. “I feel sick. I’m feverish and dizzy.” He reached down and felt her head, frowning. Then he looked at her, deep into her eyes and stared there a moment. Then…. he slowly began to smile. “Alan… what could you possibly be smiling at right now? I need medication or something..” she said. He stood up and walked over to her dresser, picked something up then came back to her bed. “Do me a fa
EmilyThe PresentShe was brought out of her memories by the front door closing, her brother bringing in some bags of food. They were staying in the house right next door to her, but she knew they’d be here with her most of the time. Once dinner was ready and they sat down to eat the conversation turned to the trial. Of course they wanted to know what happened, and she wished she could tell them everything but she couldn’t, not yet anyway. You never knew who was listening, and she wouldn’t put it past Nick to have his guards spying on her… or Sophia anyway. There could even be listening devices in this cabin. So she told them it would all come out soon….. and as soon as she felt safe enough, she would tell them everything. They had no choice but to agree. Once they finished eating someone knocked on the door. The closer she got to the door, the slower her steps became. By the time she was at the door she just stood there looking at it… not opening it. They knocked again… scari
Emily She and Alan had made it into the human town. Being there was making her feel sick, and making her think about the trip here with Charlotte. They’d passed the tattoo shop where they’d gotten matching tattoos… and the place where they got their hair cuts. She was getting angrier and angrier the more she remembered everything. Now they were in the next town. The one where the guys had first shown up. She knew the addresses that Ellis had given her, where the men had been seen… at least allegedly. But just as a precaution she wanted to go to the loading docks where she and Charlotte had gone. Alan argued they were probably only there to follow them, and she knew as much. But she wasn’t leaving a stone unturned. But they weren’t there. She even stopped and asked a few people if they’d seen the truck the guy drove. So they headed to the first address, which was a house. But when they got there no one was home. The next place was a bar type restaurant where Emily had planned to
~Lorenzo~He and Collins walked out into the huge great room in the pack house. The fire was burning warmly and a few of the pack members were mulling around. He could breathe out here. Being in that little room with her was more than he could take. She sat down on the huge leather sectional that sat in front of the fireplace, while Lo still kept his distance and went and stood by the fire. “Now. What did you say you needed help with?” He asked her. She finally looked at him and bit her lip as if she was afraid to ask anything now. She really needed to stop biting her lip. He zeroed in on the movement, his eyes darkening. “Oh um. Right. So. I want to apply for college in the town.. I went to the human college in our old pack… and I need to get my transcripts sent over here… and yeah so anyway I don’t want to lose all the hours and classes I’ve already taken so I want to hurry and get in before the next semester starts. But when I asked your beta if he could get me some informat
~Emily~ The next day after the trail she and Alan were ready to put their plan in motion. They didn’t tell Brian anything, except they were going to Alice’s store. They would apologize later. They drove right by the scouts at the gate as Emily smiled at them and they waved them on through. “So how’d you manage this?” Alan asked her. “Ellis.” She said simply. Alan jerked his head and looked at her. “He knows??” She just grinned at him and kept driving. When she had told Ellis her plan he wasn’t necessarily on board with it. But he also knew she’d find a way with or without his help. “Emily we don’t know everything yet. These people are dangerous. And we don’t know who hired them.” He had said. “But we’ve got a good idea.” She said. “Yes… but we also need to prove it. And the only way to do that is some kind of concrete evidence. Even if you can get them to tell you it’s still just here say. We need some sort of digital or paper footprint to prove it.” She nodded her head un
~Lorenzo~ It had been several days since he’d spoken to Emily. He wanted to call her but he didn’t want to make things worse. He knew she needed him there, and he had to be here. There wasn’t anything he could do at the moment. But he felt like he’d abandoned her. He had spoken to Brian a couple times and gotten the latest that was going on. Alan had been busy taking care of the store for Alice so he hadn’t talked to him. And hearing Emily’s voice would probably just set him into high gear to go right back to her. So he hadn’t called her. And she hadn’t either. Maybe it was for the best for them to spend a little time away from each other. But it was killing him just the same. Cyrus — Mr. Manning— had come by and agreed to take the job as trainer. Lorenzo told him if he decided he didn’t want to do it, he could probably find a place for him to train here in his pack. But he knew how important this job was, so he had agreed. He told his family as little as possible about wha
~Emily~ The following day after the trial she was going to pull her brother aside and ask him to help her. She had spent the entirety of yesterday afternoon and last night planning. She knew she was taking a risk but she didn’t care. She was going to get some answers. As she started to leave the town hall once they’d dismissed, Ellis asked her to come to his office. He wanted to show her something. “I must ask that we keep this between us for now.” He told her as she nodded. “The day I went and searched the area where the fight was… I found something. I haven’t told anyone except Reymond and Red. I was going to tell you soon but… you went out of town then everything with the shooting happened. I wanted to give you some time before adding this to your plate.” He told her. That means whatever he found was bad. She thought. “Okay.” She said. He got out a key and unlocked the bottom drawer of the desk. He pulled out something wrapped in cloth with a string tied around it and l
~Emily~She was anxious for the trial to end that morning. She needed to go home and make a plan. She knew what she was going to do she just didn’t know how. She also needed someone to go with her, someone she could trust… but also someone that wouldn’t try and talk her out of it. Brian most definitely would. He’d tie her to the chair if she so much as gave a hint what she was planning. And no way was she going to involve Maeve with her being pregnant. Lorenzo was gone. He would never allow her to do it either anyway. So that brought her to Alan. The council had called someone forward while she was lost in her own head and she was shocked when she looked up and saw Samuel standing there. He looked much better than he did a few days ago. She wondered if Dr. Pavarti had listened to her suggestion… and if that’s why Samuel was standing there right now. She exchanged a look with Ellis, who slowly shook his head….She understood. They wouldn’t mention anything or ask him questions the
~Emily~THE PRESENT She hadn’t left Charlotte’s side in hours. Alice and Dr. Pavarti were currently discussing the possibility of moving her into the towns hospital. But was that even safe? They hadn’t caught the men who had done this yet. What if they had someone on the inside and found out they were moving her? But he had given her the treatment for the silver. It was her heart that was the major problem now. She’s been shot literally right through it. The bullet that had passed through her upper shoulder and hit Emily had barely even hurt her because of the angle it had gone in. Alice came back inside the room then. She looked at Emily and took her hand. “You need to go home and get some rest.” She told her. But Emily shook her head. “You go rest, Alice. I’ll stay here.”Alice just smiled and sat down beside her. Emily began to cry. “It’s all my fault.” She said. Alice reached over and rubbed her head and hair. A tear fell down her cheek. “Emily. I want you to listen
~Nick~THE PAST He sat by the hospital bed holding on to Emily’s hand. The machines she was hooked up to were beeping, wires were coming out of her body everywhere. The smell of bleach and medicine and cleansing agents was stinging his nose. He stared at Emily.. her hair in tangles, some blood was dried on her neck from the wreck.. she was still beautiful. She looked peaceful laying there, although he knew she was probably being plagued with dreams that were anything but. Please wake up. Please wake up. He thought. The ambulance had come after the wreck and transported her to a human hospital. He wished he could take her back to the pack hospital but he didn’t know how to do that without raising suspicion. They’d been taking good care of her here though. Charlotte had insisted on coming with him. And you couldn’t tell that girl anything once she’d set her mind to it. But it had taken them a few hours to figure out where she was. He had finally pinged her phone location..
~Emily~THE PAST She and Nick were expecting their first baby. She was so happy and excited and so was he. Emily knew Nick wanted an heir. But she also knew he was just happy to have a child with her. Her and Charlotte had been busy decorating the nursery in between all the other pack duties she now had. But she loved it. Emily was in her element. Although it was a lot of work… it made her feel fulfilled. She had only just found out about a month ago… but she had been dying to tell people. The morning sickness probably made it obvious to some. She and Nick were supposed to be traveling to the Whitetail pack that day. It was to be a quick turn around trip… only to get some paperwork from Caron that Nick didn’t trust to send through a courier. He had said it would be a fun little get away just for the two of them. He could see his sister and feel safe that he had the papers. Emily could care less about seeing Susan. But she had agreed to go with him anyway. But the night befor
