Emily

She could see it the moment it happened … when Nick realized what he had said. He’d stuck his foot all the way in his mouth and down his throat. So much that he seemed to start choking and had to cough a moment before he could answer.

Emily knew there should’ve been guards there that night. But then so much had happened since then, she’d forgotten to even question it.

“Oh yes… well…. They weren’t there.” Nick said.

“Where were they?” Reymond asked.

“I’m…. Im not sure.” Nick said.

“Isn’t that something you ought to know?” Glasses guy asked him.

“I’m afraid that seeing my sister on the ground and my mate as her wolf took precedence to everything else.” Nick was getting snappy.

“Alright…” Red tried to calm the room down some, “who was supposed to be there?”

Nick looked down a moment then said he wasn’t sure. But they had archives of who was on patrol that night…. There were wolves who were members of the guard, they signed a sign up sheet and wrote the area where they w

LorenzoLorenzo had gone back to the cottage he was staying at after the trial had ended for the day and immersed himself in work. He could really go for a run.. he needed to let his wolf out and stretch his legs. But he knew Nick’s guards would be out and on high alert. Surely they knew there would be many non-pack wolves on his land when there was some event going on. He decided to run up to the pack house and let Reymond- the head of council- know he’d planned to go for a run. That way Nick couldn’t say shit about it. In fact, Nick could take his permission and shove it up his ass. Reymond was absolutely fine with this plan. He told Lorenzo to let any other non-pack members he saw that they could shift and run around the territory at night as well. Lo loved the fact that the council were going over Nick’s head. But that was the law after all. When Lorenzo got back to his cottage something was off. Someone had been there. He sniffed the air, recognizing the owner at the same tim

Lorenzo He and Janine were still laying on the ground. He didn’t know how long they’d been there but after they’d finished round one.. they went for round two and then three. They were laying there, not talking just enjoying the sounds of the stream trickling when they heard in the distance a sudden ‘POP!’ Lo jumped up looking around. “What was that?” Janine whispered. “Is someone else out here?” It was very possible another wolf or one of Nick’s guards were out… but they were well into the middle of the forest, the guards should be on the perimeter. And it was the middle of the night… it was doubtful another wolf was out so late. “Shhh!” Lo shushed her, listening closely. But he didn’t hear anything else. He turned to Janine. “Maybe we should head back.” He said. So they shifted back into their wolves and started their way back through the forest. After a moment of walking they heard the ‘POP!’ sound again. Something was out there with them… and it was big. The popping s

Emily THE PAST Emily felt foolish. She’s actually thought the worst was over. The pain she’d been dealing with all day was the most awful thing she’d ever felt. But Elenora had explained to her that was just her insides changing and shifting slightly, getting ready for the rest of her to make the switch. Apparently all wolves had a break period in between the two— thank goddess….. who must’ve known they’d need a moment to rest. Once that was all explained, her father told her it was important that she eat plenty of food to get her strength up. So they went to the kitchen to have some of her birthday cake. She was sore all over. Her body aching in ways she never knew was possible. She was moving slowly.. and sat down in the chair at the table very gingerly. They all sang happy birthday to her. Her father, Maeve and Elenora… and her brothers, who had returned home. They were only missing Lo. After cake her dad, who was a wonderful cook among everything else… fixed up a meal

Emily The Present. The most amazing news came the next morning. And lucky for Emily it meant she could go back to bed. She had gotten no sleep the night before… after tossing and turning for hours she decided to go on a run. But while she was out she came upon an unfamiliar wolf. Someone that wasn’t part of her pack. Unfortunately for her it turned out to be Janine. There shouldn’t have been any wolves that far into the forest. She made sure she went deep enough in that she wouldn’t run into any guards or scouts… or visitors. Not to mention it was the middle of the night. Of course, Lo was there with her. She hadn’t even been able to scent him because he had Janine’s smell all over him, mixing the two. And she knew what that meant. The thought of Lorenzo and Janine sleeping together made her stomach churn, even if she had no right to feel that way. After that debacle she still couldn’t sleep. Finally around 5 am she drifted off, only to be awoken a couple hours later. It was

Emily. She and Charlotte walked into the little store where Alice stood behind the counter. She was helping a customer so Emily took a moment to browse the aisles. She got a couple funny looks from some of the people shopping, but after she looked at them right in their eyes, challenging them to say something, they subsided and bowed their heads. She would not hide. Especially here in her own pack that she was Luna of. She was thinking about Charlotte’s father and what happened to him as she browsed. Now that he was gone, her best friend had to go into the towns to purchase the store items. And that made Emily very nervous. She wished there was a better way. “Emily!” She heard Alice say. She walked over and took Emily in her arms, hugging her. She truly loved Alice. She was the best kind of person, loving and loyal. “Hello Alice! How are you?” Emily asked her. “Oh I’m soldiering on dearie. But how are YOU?” She asked, looking at Emily worryingly. Emily smiled at her and

Emily They were getting ready to leave when Emily remembered she’d brought some flowers for Alice. She had kept some from the ones she and Charlotte had planted around the cabin. “Oh Alice I almost forgot, here we brought you this flowering bush. You can plant it outside or leave it in this pot and keep it inside.” Emily said. “Oh…. Thank you child. But… what is it?” “It’s a rare purple hydrangea.” Emily told her. “It might lose its leaves when it turns really cold but it’ll survive.”“Well it’s beautiful! Thank you dearie! I’m sorry if I seem ungrateful I assure you I’m not. I just thought for a moment you were giving me Monkshood…”. Alice said with a laugh. Emily and Charlotte exchanged looks. “Um no Alice of course not….” Emily said. “Sorry dear, of course not. It does favor it somewhat and I just thought you might’ve gotten it out of Sophia’s garden.” Alice said. Emily stood there a moment, not speaking, a frown etched on her face. Again, she and Charlotte exchanged gl

EmilyTHE PAST She had swimming in a black hole… at least that’s what it felt like. She was surrounded by darkness. But then suddenly it felt like a vacuum was sucking her out of the pit and she was swept back into the real world. Her eyes popped open and she jerked up from where she had been laying. Someone had put her on the couch. She took deep heavy quick breaths trying to calm herself. What just happened??People were talking but they sounded muffled. Like they were speaking inside a bottle. She looked around and saw everyone staring at her with worried expressions. “What. Happened.” She managed to get out. “You passed out.” Her father told her. “Probably from the pain.” Elenora said. “But we can’t give you the medicine yet… it’ll slow the transition down too much.” Emily felt okay at the moment. She was still dizzy and sore and burning up, but she wasn’t having the horrible pains at the moment. “Okay…..” she said. “I think I’m better now….”But then another pain hit her

Emily THE PAST A bee was stinging her. A gigantic bee fromthe feel of it. She tried to swat it away but someone grabbed her hands. She came to just as Elenora was finishing the first shot. She’d put it right in Emily’s stomach, and Maeve was holding her arms down. Another blast of pain hit her then. This time in her upper body. Her shoulders and neck felt like they were on fire. “Aarrggghhh!” She screamed. Oh goddess when would this ever end. She was writhing in the floor, nothing was giving her any kind of relief. She had to do this. She had to make it. She knew after the first shift that each subsequent one would be easier and quicker. She remembered from her brothers doing it. Like them, she didn’t stay and watch the first one. In fact her father wouldn’t let her anywhere near them… he’d been afraid it would scare her too much. But by the second time, it had been loads easier. They’d told her the second shift went about 2/3 faster and hurt 2/3 less than the first one. Th

Lorenzo They were coming in the pack house for a break from the rigorous training they’d been doing for a few weeks now. Lorenzo was happy to help train. But at the same time he had other pack duties and responsibilities he needed to be working on. Not to mention his mind was miles and miles away with Emily still. After he’d heard about Charlotte, he wanted to go to her immediately. But because he had been back and forth so much he decided to wait and go for the funeral instead. He had people coming into his territory those days anyway. And he didn’t want to leave Jarvis by himself to deal with all that. He had agreed to house several of the guards from his region that were training for the group that was going to the east. Part of the council had already been to most of the packs in the north, and they needed somewhere to put everybody. So he took in some of them. But that meant housing and food for all these people as well. It was a big undertaking.. and he couldn’t leave and

Emily ……………….……………….It had been two weeks since that day in the hospital when Charlotte took her last breath holding Emily’s hand. Emily had sat there and cried until Dr. Pavarti came in and unhooked Charlotte from all the machines. Something hit Emily in that moment. And she couldn’t hold it in any longer. She screamed. A painful, heart wrenching sound came from her. She screamed some more. Then she screamed again. She got up and ran out of the hospital into the cold night air. And she screamed some more.People were coming outside that had heard her, she’d woken them up in the middle of the night but she didn’t care. Her brothers and Maeve had come to the hospital too. They must’ve been in the waiting room but she didn’t even see them. They stood behind her not saying anything. Alan was a mess… he really liked Charlotte and Emily had hoped they’d end up mates one day. Alice came outside then, tears running down her face as well. But she was holding it together. Emily d

Emily She walked back into Charlotte’s room slowly… not wanting to face what the doctor has told her. Pam walked by her on her way out and laid her hand on her arm. “Just in case it’s what we think it is, tell her goodbye Emily. Most people don’t get that chance. But you do. Tell her everything you want.” Pam whispered as she left the room. She repeated basically exactly what the doctor had told her mere seconds ago. She wondered if they’d practiced that. A way to soften the blow when telling people their lives would forever be changed, and not in a good way. Emily was practicality full on sobbing at this point as Alice turned to her and softly smiled. “A-Alice” Emily stuttered between her sobs. “I just can’t accept what they’re say-saying. It can’t be true.” Alice hugged her tightly and then said:“It happened with my mother when she passed. It seems like the same thing to me.”Emily cried harder. “We would need a miracle Emily and I don’t think it’s coming. I’ve said my

Emily The look on Maeve and Brian’s faces were enough to know it was bad. She didn’t wait on any explanations, or to ask any questions. She just took off running. She ran and ran and ran all the way back into the middle of the territory. Up and down the streets, cutting through woods and peoples yards to get there as fast as she could. She finally saw the hospital up ahead. She slammed through the front door and ran through the waiting room. She kept going. Get to Charlotte. That’s all that mattered. Finally when she got to her room she skidded to a stop. She opened the door and went inside. Dr. Pavarti, Pam, and Alice stood around her bed. Emily closed her eyes, listening. Breaths. Faint but there. She was still alive. “What happened??” Charlotte demanded. At her voice Charlotte’s eyes opened just barely. She had woken up???“Oh goddess!” Emily cried as she ran to the bed. “Charlotte!” She cried and cried and thanked goddess her friend was waking up. “Emily….” Dr. Pavar

She had the audacity to act like it wasn’t a big deal and then the little fucker hung up on him. He was so mad he through the lamp sitting on the table across the room. He’d forgotten all about Collins, she sat there wide eyed… as he threw his tantrum. He sighed, rubbed his hand through his hair making it stand every which way then down his face. “Fuck. I am so sorry Collins. You… you didn’t need to see that.” He said. “It’s okay….” She said shaking her head. But it wasn’t. He was her Alpha and she didn’t need to see him losing his shit. Even though he was most definitely losing all of his shit right now. “No. No it’s not okay. I haven’t been a very good Alpha recently. I’ve had a lot going on…..” he began. “Honestly. It’s perfectly fine. You’re frustrated. I get it. You have emotions, that’s normal. It’s good th

Emily A while later she and Alan were on their way back to the pack, laughing their asses off at how everything went down. It wasn’t what she had expected, that was for sure. But she couldn’t kill a man who had just been protecting his daughter. He was a human, approached by two werewolves that he had no idea even existed… that threatened his little girl. She could understand. Although he could’ve shot the other wolves with the silver bullets the rogues gave him… She did feel better … that was for certain. Now they just had to catch the two rogue wolves. Ellis was already on it… finding their location. She would have to wait a couple days before she could try to get them to let her take care of those two. “Poor mustache.” She said. “Who??” Alan asked. “The guy— mustache. We don’t know his real name.” She answered. “I think his name is pissed his pants”. Alan answered. They both started laughing. Because he did, indeed, piss his pants when she shifted and went up to him. S

Emily. “Stay back!” The man yelled. The other guy was keeping his eye on Alan who was staring at him so hard Emily half expected lasers to come out of his eyes. “You. Shot. My. Best. Friend.” She ground out. “And me., which I don’t even care about. But when you shot her? You made a big…..huge …. mistake.”“Listen… I didn’t..” the guy tried. But Emily growled again. Both guys watching her now looked like they were about to cry. They might know werewolves existed, but she didn’t think they’d ever seen one shift before. They were too scared. “Wait… please…..” he said. “Who hired you?” She asked him. “I … I don’t know! I never got a name!”“What did they give you? For murdering someone? What did they pay you for that?!” She spat out, her eyes started glowing … her anger getting the best of her. “Please … don’t hurt us. They threatened my daughter!!” The man said. Emily stopped. What did he just say? “What??” She asked him. “Two guys. They’d been coming into the bar where m

Emily “Alan. Did you catch that scent?” She asked him carefully. He looked at her, knowing exactly what she was saying. “Yes.” He said. “Same ones, right?” She asked. He nodded. In that moment her phone started ringing and the two wolves jerked their heads up. She and Alan crashed down in the seat out of sight while she quickly quieted her phone. She looked to see who was calling. It was Lorenzo. Why would he be calling her… unless….“Shit.” She said. “Brian blabbed to Lo”. She told Alan. “Well may as well call it off now he’ll be here in five minutes.”Of course he couldn’t actually get here that fast. But he would try. She needed to talk to him and calm him down. So as she and Alan were scrunched down in the car hiding she called him back. They rolled up the windows just in case it rang again. They couldn’t hear them talking… but a shrieking phone ring? They could easily hear that. He answered on the first ring. “Lo?” She said quietly. “Please tell me your brother has

Emily She and Alan had made it into the human town. Being there was making her feel sick, and making her think about the trip here with Charlotte. They’d passed the tattoo shop where they’d gotten matching tattoos… and the place where they got their hair cuts. She was getting angrier and angrier the more she remembered everything. Now they were in the next town. The one where the guys had first shown up. She knew the addresses that Ellis had given her, where the men had been seen… at least allegedly. But just as a precaution she wanted to go to the loading docks where she and Charlotte had gone. Alan argued they were probably only there to follow them, and she knew as much. But she wasn’t leaving a stone unturned. But they weren’t there. She even stopped and asked a few people if they’d seen the truck the guy drove. So they headed to the first address, which was a house. But when they got there no one was home. The next place was a bar type restaurant where Emily had planned to
